On this month’s W❤️M episode, the gang chats about the incredible espionage action flick that started it all, Brian De Palma’s Mission: Impossible! How many members of the original TV cast either walked out of or outright refused to see this movie due to brand loyalty? How great are all these practical make-up disguises for Cruise? And is George Lucas responsible for this franchise being totally non-horny? PLUS: The guys plan on experimenting with Flatliners technology!

Mission: Impossible stars Tom Cruise, Jon Voight, Emmanuelle Béart, Jena Reno, Ving Rhames, Kristin Scott Thomas, Vanessa Redgrave, Ingeborga Dapkunaite, Rolf Saxon and the great Henry Czerny as Kittridge; directed by Brian De Palma. crazy to think we still getting MI movies almost 30 years later after this one. If DR pt 2 comes out in 2026, it'll be exactly 30 years.

Comrade Trash Panda

Hi. Contractor here who has spent a lot of time in elevator shafts and I can tell you there's no spikes at the top. HOWEVER, there are the spinning blades from Last Crusade at the top of every shaft. I whisper to myself "penitent" over and over again whenever I have to work in there.

Matt

So Steve eating a penguin is going to be on what Tier exactly?

We Hate Movies

Holy shit, that's terrifying! Can I ask, what are the blades for? - Andrew

We Hate Movies

Unfortunately DR pt 2 is slated for next summer, but all the same, yeah, a 30-year franchise with the same actor at the helm is wild. Bond hasn't even done that! - Andrew

Tim O'

Diarrhea juice, skeleton juice, lots of evil beverages on WLM lately.

Nicholas Knecht

I would assume he's referring to the cable drum, the barrel that the elevator cable wraps around

Comrade Trash Panda

To ensure that only the penitent elevator repair contractor may pass

Ed Harris

This one might still be my favorite of the franchise, though they're all pretty damn great.

Mike Kling

You gotta watch MI3 just for Phillip Seymour Hoffman alone.

Jonnie Sea

Great episode…really hoping that Dr McCoy returns to sing the LIMP BIZKIT MI2 theme

“Red light, green light!”

Paul

“Kneel and drop and roll for God!”

John Carter

The world needed more Czarny I’m glad his movie career is getting a second wind. He’s fucking perfect as a punchable weasel in CaPD, which also features awesomely goofy mid 90’s computer hacking.

Paul

I rode that train, Andrew, but from Paris to London. 👍🏽

Joe Parrino

I’ve also never actually seen “Have Gun Will Travel” but it has a really good theme song

Paul

I was misinformed and for years I thought that Henry Czerny was Steve Martin’s brother, but someone who doesn’t have Martin’s charm or sense of humor and always lived in the shadow of his more successful brother. So, for years I had this image of Henry Czerny as Steve Martin’s darker sibling.

Every spy should be equiped with a pair of Cinco brand D-pants. Take that diarrhea juice!

Tru$tn01

Every which way AND loose!

Infinite Terror

Philadelphia is the American Paris, come on guys.

James

I didn’t know this until recently but Pat Hingle survived an elevator shaft fall early in his career.

Eren Keskin

Could've used more scenes of twink Cruise wearing glasses tho. Wowza!

Dan sulin

The only difference between diarrhea juice and skeleton juice is the dosage

Ed

Fun little tidbit, Greg Morris is the father of Phil Morris. In addition to playing the son of his father's character in the 1988 Mission Impossible, Phil Morris is also known for being the man who portrayed Jackie Chiles on Seinfeld.

Nick Quintero

I'm seeing an opportunity for a WHM beverage brand...

Tim O'

[Gordon voice] Oh... my... GOD!

Paul

[Gordon voice] Who got poisoned by diarrhea juice? “It’s Eckart, sir.” [Gordon voice]. Oh…my…god.

Tom Day

I should have known this would be two hours of Aussie slander

I’ve never been entirely clear on how the IMF functions. In M:I Kittridge is the boss, but he seems to be CIA. Then later it’s whoever the Director is, unless there’s no Director and we’re just talking straight to the Secretary. And I thought the whole point was that they were all out in the wild and just got recruited ad hoc, but in M:I 3 they definitely have a base with elevators and everything. So I just don’t get it.

Mission Impossible I Director of IMF - Jim Phelps (Jon Voight)

I am surprised the guys missed this, but one of the forums Ethan scrolls past is titled "alt.amazon-women.admirers"

Wrt p good James Woods movies, Best Seller, in which he plays a hitman who asks Brian Dennehy as a Joseph Wambaugh former police officer turned author, to write a book about him, and Cop. Based on one of James Ellroy's pre-LA Confidential style novels, it's one of the Lloyd Hopkins trilogy of books. Are both good showcases of noted real life scumbag Woods playing to his strengths, though his BS character is cold while Cop is his more real life jerk who's a ticking time bomb traditional role. Also quite the creep in Against All Odds opposite Rachel Ward and Jeff Bridges at their absolute peak attractiveness.
