Happy New Year, loyal Patreon subscribers!

We're so very thankful for each and every one of you as we hit the ground running in 2024. We hope you all had a restful and fun end of your year. We're so stoked to kick this new year into high gear, and as you saw from the Big Daddy Dispatch, this month is going to be wild! Here's what's happening on Patreon this week:

With the holidays winding down, we're easing back into the groove with just a single Patreon release this week, the AD-FREE cut of our We Hate Movies episode on the dreadful Robert Rodriguez film, Hypnotic, which patrons will have access to at the $8 level and up. Wow, what a wretched undertaking this title was!

And this episode of course kicks off an entire month of programming dedicated to some of the worst and most disappointing films of last year, including next week's We Hate Movies release covering Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania! We'll also be dropping the patrons-only We Love Movies episode next week where we'll be having a convo around Eric's fave movie of last year, Oppenheimer!

So that's it for this week, along with a little tease of what's to come next week. We hope you all had a great and safe New Year's celebration, and we're so glad to be back in your ears as we return to the post-holiday sludge.

Never heard of Hypnotic. Does Ben even know he was in it?

I'm really excited for your Quantumania episode, that was one of the most miserable viewing experiences I had for a MCU movie. But then again, I never really liked any of the Ant-Man movies to begin with other than the first movie. Speaking of, does anyone else feel like you could tell which parts of the first movie were clearly made by Edgar Wright and which parts felt like studio schlock? Early on in the movie Ant-Man's friend tells the audience how nice a guy he is and how he was justified in robbing his former employee, but not too long after that his ex-wife tells him to go fuck himself for getting thrown in jail despite having a toddler to take care of at home. There's also Hank Pym who's initially portrayed as a shitty father, but then the movie plays the "dad had a good reason to abandon you when you were grieving the loss of your mother" card towards the end. It kinda sucks how the movie seemed like it was going to have Ant-Man and Hank come to terms with how they put their own suffering above the well-beings over their own daughters and that they needed to be better, but then having their man-pain justified by the narrative.

I’m still hoping for a Joe Don Baker month. Framed, Speed Trap, Final Justice, THE PACK. Lets go!

RIP Tom Wilkinson

Well, we got you covered on one of those titles. We actually did an episode on The Pack when the show was first starting out. Episode three! - Andrew

Just ran a couple different searches on Patreon, is it somewhere else? Is that what an RSS feed is? (Sorry, I’m still learning to be an internet citizen).

Rodriguez really can't make up his mind when directing the script. U guys nailed it with the cutesy kid movie touch compared to the hard core grind of his more gunslinger, actiony fare he can't get in between and craft a decent Inception like...I mean creative fresh idea take on Sci-Fi! 🤣
