Were the pictures taken purposefully with a low lighting? I struggle to figure out if it is a sombre mood or just unpaid bills! ;)

It was a dark afternoon on the Oregon coast. The only light came from an eastern facing window. I don't use studio lighting ever, and very rarely even turn on a lamp. I prefer to use whatever light is available naturally, and let that inform the mood of the photos.
