Hey folks,Last week I announced my dad was coming to stay with me for a week.Given our difficult relationship and his degrading physical and mental condition, I was bracing myself for a hard week but was still hopeful that I could keep working while he was here.Sadly, that was not the case. His presence was a lot to deal with.I could only compare it to having to take care of a child's every need. Where I couldn't work for 10 minutes before he called out for me.He is my dad, and I had to take care of him. It is what it is.His visit was not all bad; I did try to have a good time with him despite our history and the back-stabbing in the past. But this was a very stressful week for me.To be clear, his visit was absolutely not planned or anything. He just arrived with barely a 24-hour notice. So my plans to finish the SCP set last week and get going all out on Engaged to rubber until the end of the month? Yeah, they all went down the drain.I essentially lost an entire week of work over this.Stuff like this happens; there isn't much I can do about it. My dad's condition is not exactly improving and events like these... Are going to happen. But I should be in the clear for the time being.So...- SCP MOMO set: I should still manage to deliver on the 31st this month, maybe early September, but it's coming this week for sure. In the meantime, I'm posting the "prologue" section of the story, which stands on its own and mostly features TOMI to get the setting established. Momo comes later. I don't usually do this, but consider this a little something while I work hard to get the set done.- Engaged to Rubber; as I said, I had a full week of work planned to get this done this month, but my dad happened. So... that didn't work out. I have to get my schedule back in order with what happened this week and see what I can do for ETR next month. I will keep you posted. That's it.I'm very sorry, but this thing with my bad really came out of nowhere and was out of my control. Despite my bad blood with him, he is still my dad, and I do care for him. So, I had to do what I had to do. Put work on the side for now, and take care of him.I thank you all for your understanding and patience.Tonk.

Family always comes first. Please take all the time you need with them. I’m more than happy to wait for your work, so please don't let this pressure you or make you feel guilty. I’m always here to support you, and I hope everything works out well for you. 🫂

I'm going to say the "mean" thing here, but you don't have to take care of someone who's shown little care for you in the past (based on the back-stabbing and difficult relationship). Especially when they simply expect you to drop an entire week of your life at a moment's notice. Sometimes you have to put your foot down and think of your own well being, as setting yourself on fire to keep him warm will only hurt you.

I get you and part of me wanted to do that. But I just couldn't in the end. He's still my dad. Which doesn't change the fact that what you said is true. But it's hard.

I won't harp on it, I'll simply cap off by saying it's worth pre-planning other ways to help that take at least some of the burden off of you. Like turning to other family or hiring a part time caretaker (a professional may even be covered by insurance).

Take good care of yourself and don't worry, the first thing is I hope you take care of the important things in your life. It's not the same, but my father has problems with his legs and can't walk well anymore, so I have to take care of him, but I'm not doing it alone either.I'd like to say how I could help, but that would be a bit intrusive, and we live very far apart. All I can tell you is to be patient, take good care of yourself, and if possible Don't do everything alone; seek help to make your situation more comfortable. That's my message: take good care of yourself, and I hope things improve.
