i only read the first story arch of this manga years ago. it seems like all the character names are very long and difficult to say compared to most japanese names i feel like

totally true but many characters have kanji in the name which means something related to them, like bakugo, shoto, or kaminari. also many anime will localize names or just keep them simple to appeal to western audiences but mha doesn't do that at all

Yeah, in MHA almost all of the names are puns and references, so it's not surprising that some of them are more difficult for non-Japanese speakers. For instance, for Shoto: 焦 means to burn or singe, and 凍 means to freeze. In Momo's case Yaoyorozu means "countless/myriad things," which refers to her quirk to be able to create basically anything.
