VOLCANO (1997) FULL LENGTH MOVIE REACTION - WATCH ALONG

Comments

Bluhawke

One of my favorite comfort movies as a kid (next to The Abyss)! Used to watch this every time i was home sick.

Christian_Berlin

YES awesome, haven't seen that one in a while, awesome movie!

Jennifer

I love that you're on a roll with the Tommy Lee Jones movies! I love him as an actor and grew up watching so many of his films. I haven't seen this one in so long but what a nostalgic kick this one was for me!

TJ

such an underrated movie. Probably one of my favorites out of the disaster flicks.

The Media Knights

Definitely an awesome flick! We still have yet to check out "The Abyss"!

The Media Knights

Glad you enjoyed it! It was definitely a fun time. Got us in the mood for some more disaster flicks 😁

The Media Knights

We just needed another dose of Tommy Lee Jones! He's just so charismatic. We enjoyed him in this 😁

The Media Knights

We had a great time with it! Loved how they built the anticipation and things only got worse and worse till the very end.

Donna Castellano

When you do, watch the Special Edition. Adds in like 30 minutes of footage that really completes the story Cameron was telling.

Xtract-Rises

You guys should watch San Andreas (2015) another great disaster movie!

Jennifer

That he is! Even in the films where he's not the lead, he definately makes his presence felt and he's always such a pleasure to watch. If you are ever looking for some more recommendationsfor his films, some of my favorites are (other than the MiB trilogy, of course) The Fugitive and it's sequel US Marshals, then there's No Country for Old Men and Double Jeopardy. And, if you decide to watch the '89-'97 Batman movie series, he is an absolute treat in the third one, Batman Forever. There's also The Client and The River Rat, both of which are criminally underrated, in my opinion. Love your reactions and look forward to more, even the ones without Tommy Lee 😉 😄

DM DC

One of my favorite disaster films is The Core (2003). If you haven't seen it. Has a great cast: Aaron Eckhart, Stanley Tucci, Hilary Swank, DJ Qualls, Delroy Lindo, Bruce Greenwood, to name a few. I won't say it's a perfect film, but I find it very very enjoyable. Lost count how many times I've seen it.

Joel

I tend to think of this one and Dante's Peak in the same mold, both volcano movies, and both came out at roughly the same time

BubblyRainbows

I hope you will watch "Dante's Peak" at some point. I'll be honest up front. A lot of people seem to like "Dante's Peak" more, and I've heard it said it's more realistic. And I understand that. That's actually exactly why I prefer the Bourne movies over "Mission Impossible" (which is not to say that MI isn't amazing). But when it comes to disaster films, for me, the tension, the spectacle, all of that beats realism. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the two movies in comparison to one another. Here's hoping your disaster movie journey includes my other two favorite disaster films, "2012" and "Armageddon." As a side question, do you have a list or a site where you have the movies you've seen? I'm curious to know which movies you've seen and which you haven't. For example, I'd love to see a full reaction to "Ghostbusters" with you, but it's hard to predict what you might have seen and what you haven't when it comes to movies that old. I mean... my DAD was only 8 when he saw that in theatres. So, either you've seen it because it's a classic that's older than you are, or you might have missed it because you weren't born yet when it came out, like me! I'd love to browse a list of what you've seen, if something like that exists. (Letterboxd Perhaps?)

Michael G. Munz

I saw this in theaters, and Stan jumping into the lava to save the subway driver is something that stuck with me. ... Granted, I got him mixed up with Charles S. Dutton in Mimic, but still... 😁 Come to think of it, check out Mimic for a fun monster movie! And speaking of Keith David, have you folks seen Pitch Black?

Michael G. Munz

He was amazing (along with Robert Duvall) in the Lonesome Dove mini-series, too.

BubblyRainbows

Oooo yes! "Pitch Black" would be awesome. I actually liked all three, though I understand I was in the minority there.

Bluhawke

The Core is just great entertainment. Are there many questionable scientific moments and plot holes? Yeah, but it's such a fun ride you can forgive it.

DM DC

Exactly.

Just Shelve It

Saw this opening night, and a few times since but it’s been a while. Hot different this time. Always fun watching along with you both.

Kaleigh Kaos

This is one of my favorite all-time "My god that was so awful it was good" movies. There are SO many "that's just absolutely, ludicrously, impossibly, incorrect" moments that I can't take it seriously, at all. BUT I LOVE IT!! I've watched it probably six or seven times. It's just a fun, ridiculous, movie.

Donna Castellano

I second Dantes Peak. I mean, I enjoyed Volcano. Saw it in the theatres. DP tho is much more drama based. I like all the characters a lot more and it's a little more believable in it's story. Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton are great in it too.

Jon

Honestly, I like this movie more than Dante's Peak.

Matthias Fendl

You guys are awesome! I just watched Twister and Twisters and after watching the two disaster movies and Men in Black 1-3 with you, I'm excited to continue on the Tommy Lee Jones hype train 🚂 and disaster movies at the same time ;)

Freight Train Jon

It's an excellent movie, but there is one scene that is very sad and hard to watch, it's where they are trying to get all the people off the train and the one guy winds up trying to jump from the train while carrying the driver of the train.

Donna Castellano

I hope you guys go on a disaster movie run. Lotta great ones. Irwin Allen did a lot of the classics in the 70s. One of my personal favorites is The Poseidon Adventure. It's way different from the book but all were improvements. One of my favorite Gene Hackman films too.

Emily Gray

OMG The Core is AMAZING!! And I agree, the actual science is questionable but like Jurassic park, they use it in a smart way so it sounds like good science and believable. I love the guy who plays Rat.

DM DC

Yeah, DJ Qualls is great in it, loved Rat. Really fun character.

jazz316

This is one if not one of the greatest of Diaster movies of the 90s or in the top 5 of all time! Perfect acting. Great use of practical effects. Marvelous showing of a mix of scenes and tremendous use of characters. I am so happy you have been able to see this! I reccomended this for years to many but your the first ones to actually see it! I am so happy! For a small list of Disaster Films I reccomend for your list on that genre are these. "Deepwater Horizon" "San Andreas" "The Day after Tommorow" "Geostorm"

Magwin

Deepwater Horizon is one of my most favourite disaster movies, so I second that.

Robert Durant

Of course y'all now know this was one of the many dueling studios films of the 90's, the other being Dante's Peak. There was also Armageddon (asteroid) and Deep Impact (comet), studios of the 90s just had to one-up the other with films with the same plot. This movie is notorious for being so over the top with the idea of a volcano in the middle of Los Angeles but it's a fun ride nonetheless.

Ricardo Alanis

I gravitated to this more than Dante’s Peak for the rollercoaster ride. Same with Armageddon vs Deep Impact but all are still great watches. Goad you enjoyed it!

Emperor Raven

A solid older disaster film... really fun and dramatic, love the interactions and chemistry between Tommy Lee Jones and his romantic interest, along with his close bond and relationship with his daughter. Overall really great casting and nice themes of unity, leadership, and compromise to lay down grudges when push comes to shove.
