DarkLarva

Little easter egg, there are isolation save points hidden throughout the film. Stating that there is a possibility that Isolation is cannon

Boris Kopp

The fact that the alien/human hybrid at the end is no cgi but instead the first acting role in a suit for Robert Bobroczkyi is actually insane. Loved your reaction and for me this is easily one of my favorites so far. The way the story circled certain details from all movies combined is so fun to see. Critics say it's too much fan service but I loved it and especially the goo made perfect sense to me. My ranking would now be Alien Alien Romulus Alien Resurrection Aliens Prometheus Covenant Alien 3

Helion

I think Isolation is already established as cannon.

Helion

Had the pleasure to see this in the theatre. Too bad we didn't have it in 3D

Joey Cintron

This movie was so badass! I loved every minute. Reminded me of watching you guys playing the Alien Isolation game on 2.0!!!

Joey Cintron

I'm not gonna lie, the body horror creeped me eff out. Can we just address the face-hugger penis in the room? About the vagina shaped cocoon thing? Is it just me? Come on... LMAO

Michael G. Munz

"Do the slide-y thing! Do the slide-y thing!!" 😂😁

Jordan Williams

I saw this in theaters and the jump scares got me again on the 2nd viewing lmaooo!!! Also, can you believe the newborn was practical?!?!? I gotta see the behind the scenes footage of the makeup and costume design process.

Eddy Lheat-99

The humanoid is a actual person it’s a basketball player they used to be the that alien

Great Reaction Ari and Denise! Enjoyed that alot! I watched this movie on IMAX in darling harbour in Sydney. Best way to watch it in my opinion. I liked the Cinematography, Sound Design, Lighting and Colour Gradient, Camera angles and shot compositions in alot of the kinetic sequences like alot of the Facehugger scenes. I loved the concept of some of the scenes and the fidelity of the space landscapes they showed. Andy, by far, was my favorite character. Everyone else really rubbed me the wrong way, because they were just clearly either caricatures of alien alumni like Rain was clearly suppose to be the Ripley stereotype done no where near as endearing and one guy was a Hicks rip-off or they were just not characters i really wanted to see survive like the cousin who is hateful towards Andy or the pregnant girl who is essentially useless. Didn't like how much they nerfed the Facehuggers. In all other alien movies, the Facehuggers launch at you, rarely do they ever miss getting their target and once they have got them, it's impossible to remove them. This movie has Facehuggers missing their targets left right and center at shameful rates, this is the first movie l've ever seen a Facehugger be physically removed from their prey after latching on. They made the Facehuggers look like incompetent chumps, which is why they needed millions of them to do the job one used to do competently in the past. Was disappointed the CGI to bring the Ash Cameo didn't look the best. Would have been better if they had given a new actor a chance to play rook instead of doing a princess leia from Rogue One bad cgi job to bring sir Ian Holm back. Alot of Nostalgia bait. Some good, Some cringe worthy. Andy saying ripley's line from Aliens didn't feel earned to me. I'd give this movie a 7. Not the most terrible aliens movie ever made, but not the best alien movie ever either. I had other things i could've brought up, but i didn't want to be that guy.

I can understand where you are coming from when it comes to the Facehugger situation but I must point out the film makes a point to remind us that waking up from cryo can be a slow process. Those things were frozen! Why would we assume cryo wouldn't affect the Facehuggers. Especially when we know how sensitive a full grown Xenomorph is to temperature. I think the justification is right there. These facehuggers were disoriented, sloppy and were coming to their senses which is why later as the film goes on they become quicker but that's also around the time we shift our attention to the Xenomorph. Everything else you pointed out is up to preference so I understand!

The Media Knights

The practicals in this were insane! Thank you for sharing your ranking with us! Love hearing you guys' opinion on these 😄

Having recently played the games we were freaking out on all of the Alien: Isolation references!

Zensonar

It's like a cover song of the original, but a really good cover song that adds its own value in its own voice.

This is such a good movie. It ties in the original alien movie with the Ridley Scott prequel because let’s face it. All three of those movies were his. He gave good little nod to the sequel that Scott never liked because it wasn’t a part of his story. And I liked how they continue to build this universe, not just with the Xenomorphs, but also with the world building

LevRidge

Prometheus was a wreck, just for the fact that it was suppose to pre-date aliens by over 100 years and you can see the tech look so much more advanced.. this movie was good but I think they tried tying to many things in one film.

Been a minute for me posting here and finally got to watch this movie recently. But I gotta say, chef's kiss to this movie. Was really worried how this movie fair given some of the recent entries, but again I watch these movies to see more lore from the aliens and to see something new. Everyone in Fox needs to protect the director at all costs and keep him on the Alien franchise going forward. The face hugger sequence is by far the creepiest part outside of the hybrid. The face huggers are every arachnophobe's worst nightmare if you put tails on the damn spiders and make them bigger. lol. But seriously, that was an awesome sequence. The hybrid is definitely the most unsettling and disturbing part of this movie but was executed in a far superior way to Resurrection and made much more sense in how it came to be. Can't wait to see what they do with a future praetorian/queen alien, heck maybe some new strains we haven't seen on screen yet. Plenty of examples in comics and games but would be fun to see. I do have to say they did a good job with the cast, but Rain and Andy did a very good job. I normally don't like it when movies try to make a different version of a legendary character, but I feel Rain did a pretty good job of executing her role and the movie portraying her to be competent as well. As for Ash well, I'll pretend I didn't see that. Just a nod back to the "Mummy Returns" CG criticism, I feel they made the scorpion king's final form look way better. lol. That's my only negative pointer. All in all, a very good movie.

Emperor Raven

Damn the scorpion king's cgi is so atrocious too lmao.

Emperor Raven

Wow that's incredible... I had no idea! :O

Emperor Raven

The newborn being practical effects really did it wonders! Trust me I've watched it three times and I think those jump scares got me every freakin' time lol. I saw someone on YT saying they and their buddy started laughing at the design when it was revealed and walked out of the theater, no idea how they managed that cause it really got me and I largely prefer it to the hybrid in Resurrection!

Emperor Raven

That's what happens when a film leans on previous films too hard and doesn't develop a core identity for itself and yeah... Prometheus had a way stronger identity and direction (although it still suffered from studio interference and I know it annoyed Ridley to no end) but Covenant just ran off the rails while this film blended aspects of previous films a lot better imo and the atmosphere was surreal.

Emperor Raven

Yeah there's endless potential in the Alien franchise for many stories with many different kinds of enemies and characters to unfold! Just need the good writers and directors to take charge of projects...

Emperor Raven

Yeah the biggest weaknesses imo are the characters (especially the secondary characters and they are not all that memorable and charming like stronger cast members of a few other films) and the fact that it leans too hard on other films when it comes to some action sequences and dialogue. I do love the interactions and dialogue between Rain and Andy though, hands down the best pair of characters in the film and they really killed their roles despite rather lackluster side characters falling to the wayside. They also aren't even given any real development time to bond and make us sympathize with them a whole lot either (secondary characters). Honestly regardless of the reason once you got a bunch of facehuggers present they pretty much HAVE to miss many times otherwise the whole team will be dead with no one to drive the plot forward lol. If it's only one or two, that's when they are going to be truly formidable and harder to deal with from a numbers standpoint, but them being sluggish coming out of cryo totally makes sense to me! The biggest strengths of this film to me are definitely the incredibly well designed set pieces, crazy good sound design, environments, and atmospheric tension that builds up suspense and psychological horror very similar to Alien and Alien: Isolation (which we can see deeply inspired this film and that's a great thing, plus aspects integrated from other films to give nods to different aspects of the Alien franchise throughout the film). I love the classic horror elements instilled in this film, all of the Alien: Isolation callbacks, and it even got me with some jump scares! The floating acid scene when gravity is disabled is incredible and I applaud their creative vision for producing such an awesomely creative battle sequence! What I would like to see more of now are films standing on their own more competently, while developing their own identities more and developing a stronger cast of relatable and charming characters with solid chemistry to carry plots forward that will be very memorable. I agree they should not make main characters to compete with Ripley because it's probably not going to work too well lol, but instead let each character become the best version of themself in whatever situation they find themself in. Even Ripley's daughter in Alien: Isolation is very much her own person and a great character that really stands on her own outside of her mom's legacy. Great review guys, personally I put this movie right behind Aliens and edging out Alien 3. Hearing that an Alien: Isolation sequel is confirmed is amazing too... both stressful and exciting!

Emperor Raven

Ohhh that part made me laugh for real hahaha!! xD

Emperor Raven

I think someone was in heat while drafting the script lmao!

Emperor Raven

I believe this film and Alien: Isolation follow the same timeline too.

New Patreon here. I just completed watching all of the reactions to the Alien film franchise, and it was very cool to see the reactions and outro discussions. I'm a big fan of this franchise and have generally liked all the sequels and prequels. One question: do y'all intend to watch and react to the new Alien: Earth series on Hulu? I have watched the current episodes and will be looking forward to the last one this Tuesday. The series, in my opinion, has been really good so far.

Alien: Romulus leans heavily into the claustrophobic, "haunted house in space" roots of the series. If you want a visceral, high-tension horror film that feels like it "belongs" next to the original classics, Romulus is a home run. However, if you're looking for the deep philosophical expansion seen in Prometheus, you might find it a bit too focused on "the hits."

Nowhere Man

It’s thrilling to watch a late addition to the franchise that is so perfectly faithful. This movie combines elements from every single Alien movie and game. I’m surprised it took you two so long to figure out what the salvage was. When a character in an “Alien” movie says that the salvage will be easy, you know they’re completely clueless. Can we also talk about the lighting design? It's a 3D movie without actual 3D. 98.6° F is the (approximate) average human INTERNAL body temperature, not the average human EXTERNAL body temperature. Skin temperature varies and is generally lower. So the room temperature may have been set too high. “Maybe it won’t be so bad.” You have no idea. None. Wait for it, wait for it, wait for it... I suspect that after the events of Prometheus, an investigative or rescue mission went to that bioweapon-storage planet and sent back at least some information about what was discovered. That would explain how the company knew so much in this movie. However, it’s doubtful that hypothetical follow-up mission resulted in any acquisitions. I'm sure that anyone who’s ever visited that planet died on it. But I’m also sure that there was some remote data recovery and/or some drone surveillance.
