SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD (2010) FULL LENGTH MOVIE REACTION - WATCH ALONG

Comments

Dustin Duvall

I already know this react will be fire. Before I start annoying y'all with semi-weekly begging. Have y'all both seen the movies Sinister and It Follows?

Charlie

One of my all time favourite movies. I think this was my sixth rewatch lol

Mister Lou

This was an interesting time casting wise. These are now very established actors, but at the time most of them were just starting their careers. Making this movie right now instead of then, with this same cast would be impossible. Same with 2005's "Waiting..." another fun comedy I recommend, if you haven't seen it yet.

Gideon is Jason Schwartzman who is Talia Shire's son, Francis Ford Coppola nephew, Nic Cage's cousin and Sophia Coppola's cousin

Envy's song is a great cover of a fantastic song Black Sheep by Metric and is easily in my top 5; such a great way to introduce people to a awesome band

Scott Pilgrim vs The World is probably the best adaptation of a comic to the big screen I have seen. Some of the newer ones (Deadpool, Logan) are in the mix, hence the probably, but just looking at the world that Bryan Lee O'Malley created and comparing it to the movie is basically like holding a mirror to the comic. Pretty much every reference to pop-culture is O'Malley's work and the visual style is spot on from the comic. If you love the comic, like I do, this movie scratches all the right itches. To your point about the script and the secondary characters developments, I get what you mean, but since the growth in the original story is pretty much Scott it's hard to step away from that in movie. The acting is so much fun. A lot of people get to go over the top (Evans and Schwartzman being the extremes) and it fits so well into the style of the film that it works. Cera plays Cera, which he usually does, and honestly I think Scott is the perfect role for him. Culkin is hilarious with his little comments and ruthlessness. Winstead nails her part as well, it is easy to understand how you can be completely smitten by her. The cinematography is amazing. Interesting angles, insane editing and so many cool little details. It feels like you are in a videogame, which matches the style of the comic so well. The switches in ratio depending on what is happening also creates such a dynamic feeling throughout the whole movie. Lastly, the music! I love when the score and music in movies is more than just mood-setters. Here the music is actually part of the story and even if it isn't your cup of tea, it creates an atmosphere that is hard to ignore. "We are Sex Bomb-ombs" will forever be etched into your memories now! Some other cool films where the music is an interesting component: Blade Runner 2049 (2017) O Brother Where Art Thou (2000) Across the Universe (2007) Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008)

Context helps a bit here. This is based on a graphic novel series of the same name. Anyway, Scott is actually a real good fighter in the story.

This movie is bonkers. This was a lot of fun, guys. Have either of you seen Barbie? I know that probably sounds like a weird as hell movie to recommend coming off of this one, but Barbie is another one of those bonkers movies that has a ridiculous plot that shouldn't work, a very meta feel, and a mix of tones that fit perfectly. It's also super funny when it needs to be, and I think you guys would really love it.

I know this is kind of out of know where but I highly recommend “Extinction” 2018 if you have not yet seen it

Anton Agassi

Hey guys, are you planning on reacting to the 2nd Sherlock Holmes movie? If not I would highly recommend giving it a shot. It's everything we loved from the first film just ramped up another gear with even higher stakes! Keep up the great content!

Donna Castellano

I remember when that movie was ramping up. People were always asking if I was gonna see it, since I've been a Barbie collector for 35 years. Yeah, I did and it was a lot of fun. Getting the dolls for that movie was a pain in the ass tho.

I HIGHLY recommend that you read the graphic novel. It fills in some of Scott's back story which makes the movie make more sense. The movie is great. But the comic really fills in the story's added context and holes.

Ofbricks

In the Graphic Novel, Matthew Patel did the following to try and contact Scott: 1) Mail was sent. 2) Email was sent. And each message was sent a week apart.

Ofbricks

Ellen Wong, the actress who plays Knives Chou, this was her very first big role in Hollywood. And she just flat dominated this part.

Ofbricks

This is pretty much how they portray the battle with Matthew Patel in the graphic novel. This is a pretty good interpretation of the graphic novel.

Ofbricks

Matthew's death scene reminds me of a Final Boss fight or finishing move. Its so good.

Yes, Roxie Richter did indeed go pop from an orgasm. The back of her knee made her O, hence why "You'll never be able to do this to her...I.E. make Ramona "O" like he made Roxie by poking her there.

David Lonewolf Wright

This is my favorite Edgar Wright film and love the soundtrack. It gets several rotations on all of my road trips and then I want to watch this all over again afterwards. I am really looking forward to Edgar Wright's The Running Man coming out later this year. One of my ex-girlfriends actually told me, "I am in lesbian with you."

Fun fact, the scene near the start where Scott signs the parcel and throws it over his shoulder into the bin. This was actually a practical scene and Michael Cera took 33 takes to land it in the bin. Its shown in the outtakes for the film.

Michael Quinn

I kinda forgot about this movie I never realized until now that Brie Larson, Chris Evans and Alison Pill was in this movie.
