SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS (2011) FULL LENGTH REACTION - WATCH ALONG

Comments

Matt Cantu

Mentioned it before, but y’all have got to do Chinatown. Considered to be the greatest screenplay in history by many. It is up there with the Godfather as an bonafide classic.

Subject entry 4

Another great movie choice I going be watching the wild robot tomorrow I hear it’s a tear jerker hope to see your reaction after

Mister Lou

I just knew you guys would have a blast with this and that Forest Running Scene. It's my personal favourite part of the movie quickly followed by the pay off scenes, after they set up his "wedding gift" and the "be careful what you Fish for." I too wish and pray for a 3rd movie, also bring back Irene!

Helion

You guys should go for the John Wick series, cause Ballerina is around the corner :)

Celine

It would be really cool if you guys could check out the miniseries "adolescence." I haven't seen many reaction channels covering it. If you haven't heard of it, then it's better to go into it blind. It's really good! I won't spoiler anything because, like I said, it's better to go into it blind. It's only a recommendation, of course.

Melissa Creel

YAY!.. I will mention again though, you guys need to watch Snatch. One of Guy Richie's early ones and it's great. Brad Pit, Jason Statham just to name a few. It awsome...

I love Jared Harris as Moriarty, he was able to exert real threat just by talking and you knew it isn't a bluff, he means it and has the capability to realize those threats, often without anyone seeing it coming. Villains like that are, to me at least, so much more interesting. Dangerously intelligent is a fitting description of Moriarty. RDJ did such a good job as Sherlock but Jude Law was so amazing as Watson, shame that we never got third movie but then again this was so good that perhaps a sequel to this could not surpass or even get to this level. I think it was always a scheduling issue more than anything with RDJ spending a decade as Tony Stark. Also if you would like to see more of Jared Harris there is miniseries called The Terror, it is inspired by real event of Franklin expedition to the Arctic, the cast, writing and setting are simply amazing and it gives the most wonderful chills and heebie jeebies you can imagine. I would love to see your reaction to it.

The Media Knights

Jared Harris as Professor Moriarty was such a genius pick! He absolutely killed it. It’s a shame the third one has been stuck for a while, we do hope they get to it at some point but if this is it then they did go out with a bang!

The Media Knights

Thank you for the recommendation Celine! Adding it to our list 😁

The Media Knights

We’ve seen the first one, but we’ll gladly catch up with the rest ❤️

The Media Knights

That scene was something else! So exhilarating and with some incredible sound. Here’s hoping we get a third one! ❤️

The Media Knights

That’s some pretty high praise! It’s already on our list. Can’t wait to share it with all of you 😁

One reaction you guys should randomly swap seats and not address it just to mess with people.

Completely agree, for once a sequel that is even better than the first one. The clear addition of Jared Harris as Moriarty elevates everything immensely. Besides the already established (wonderful) relationship between Sherlock and Watson, we get a completely new relationship between Moriarty and Holmes. This is of course a rivalry instead of a friendship, but the mutual respect and the matching of wits is so damn good. I love Harris performance, he is both menacing and brilliant at the same time. Downey Jr is again brilliant as Holmes, both funny and excentric, yet incredibly human. Law shines as Watson as well, clearly more than just a sidekick. In some ways the story holds less of a mystery than the first one because we more or less already know who the villain truly is, but the battle of wits makes it way more interesting, in my opinion. The cinematography is fantastic. Some incredible sequences action-wise, but also some gorgeous shots when Holmes analyses the situation. Ritchie has mastered things like speedramping for this one and the use is good because all the sequences makes sense. He avoids using technique for it's own sake, it actually enhances the sequences. Overall a great movie and I enjoyed your reaction quite a lot. For something completely different from Jude Law I would highly recommend The Road To Perdition.

The action scene in the forest is one of my favourite action scenes of all time. The way Sherlock gives Watson the rifle and how Watson is aiming right after that is just perfection. Jude Law was never my type but in that sequence he is so damn hot. 😅 I just love him as Watson. 😊

Stephanie

Oh yes. I'm all in for that.😃

In hindsight, the climax with Holmes and Moriarty isn't actually that much of a surprise if you've read "The Final Problem". In the Conan Doye stories, Moriarty is known in the criminal underworld only as a respected scholar and professor; Holmes deduces his reputation as a criminal mastermind after noticing a painting in Moriarty's office that he shouldn't have been able to afford on his teaching salary. Edit: Mycroft is just as smart, if not smarter, than Sherlock, but chooses not to put his intellect to a practical use like his brother; in the short story in which Mycroft was introduced, Sherlock describes him as having no ambition or energy, and about almost any topic, he would rather be considered wrong than make the effort to prove himself right.

Fun fact about the slow motion forest scene that you love and wanted to know how it was done. A british youtuber called Gavin Free (The Slow Mo Guys) actually worked on the slow mo for that shot, at the time he was an apprentice, but he worked withe the phantom cameras that were used and had the responsibility of adjusting the settings and downloading the footage from the cameras after the shot. He went on to work more and more with the cameras and learned everything about them, and now shoots everything from everyday things to bizarre stuff with his own phantom camera. He has spoken about how they did the shot briefly with the Corridor Digital guys. Timestamped video link below: https://youtu.be/qeZD9sQ7LV0?si=SQQK1XAwV2OikeW3&t=35
