PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES (2011) FULL LENGTH MOVIE REACTION - WATCH ALONG

Comments

Jakob Cisneros

Y’all should do a reaction to “the 13th warrior” excellent film with Antonio banderas

Andrew Zavala

Yes and make sure to watch Pirates of the Caribbean 5, too.

Michael G. Munz

Have you two seen The Mask of Zorro (1998) with Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, and Catherine Zeta-Jones? I ask because one of Blackbeard's crew in this looked like a supporting character in that movie. (It wasn't the same actor, as it turns out, but it made me think it would be an awesome movie for you to do a reaction for!) Edit: And so far as period seafaring pieces go, I also VERY much recommend Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (Russell Crowe, Paul Bettany), for a more realistic--but no less incredible naval tale.

I enjoyed your reaction to this, even if you didn't enjoy it as much as I did.. it maybe the 4th movie, like why bother? why keep making more past 3? a perfect 3.. kind of like Toy Story and Die Hard. anything 4 and on people just kind of tune out.. no matter how good you think it is, or how much fun you have..

Melissa Creel

Don't know if y'all have seen this but Johnny Depp went to Disneyland dressed as CAPTAIN..Jack Sparrow and went into the pirates of the Caribbean attractions and stood in a scene like an anamatronic and when gursts came through on the noat he started moving snd talking and people freaked. There is a video of it on YouTube. He did say he wouldn't do it again because people didn't really believe it was him😁

I did not love this one anywhere near as much as the first 3, but re-watching it with you guys actually redeemed it a bit for me. It might be a by-product of me now having seen the 5th one and knowing it can go more downhill. This one is still lacking, however as you noted it is a lot of fun. Head on the nail with the lack of focus. The adventure/action aspect is good and the relationship of Jack, Barbossa and Gibbs is excellent as always. The mermaid and the cleric is in my opinion completely unnecessary. Can't get into it, don't care, it is just taking up space in the film. The Jack/Angelica-relationship is way interesting and it could have been given a lot more time. Blackbeard would also have been so much more interesting if the character was fleshed out and his relationship with Angelica could have been explored so much more. Compare it to Davy Jones/Calypso and you realise it is sadly lacking. Overall there is a clearly some writing lacking here but works ok for the most part. Unlike the first three you just don't really feel the need to come back to this one (even though it worked better to re-watch than I thought). The action is still fantastic, Jack is still hilariously amazing and the effects work very well. Sadly I get the feeling that Gore Verbinski as director is sorely missed in this one. I will tag along if you decide to watch the 5th one but be very prepared on an experience that might leave you with different feelings on the whole franchise. Pirates-ranking for me: 1. Curse of the Black Pearl (instant classic) 2. At Worlds End 3. Dead Man's Chest 4. On Stranger Tides 5. Dead Men Tell No Tales

Seconding a reaction to Mask of Zorro! I love that movie.

The Media Knights

Hi Robert!! Thank you so much for always being so supportive and bringing in the positive energy! Your opinion is so valid, and it seems you're not alone in your sentiment! There was a lot to enjoy with this one, but there was a lot of potential that wasn't fully explored, which is a shame!

The Media Knights

What a great comment, thank you so much for sharing! See, this is why we love rewatching movies, especially those that we didn't love that much the first time, because as you just mentioned in your comment - sometimes giving something a second chance can actually change your mind! Completely agree with your criticism as well, leaning more into Jack and Angelica's relationship could have given us that romantic subplot they were trying to go for, and giving us some type of conclusion to that would have felt a lot more rewarding, but alas here we are. We've been seeing many comments about the fifth one that are all over the place - some really enjoyed it, some feel the way you do, so we're excited to check it out just to see where everyone is coming from and how it makes us feel! Thanks again for taking the time to comment, it means the world to us!

The Media Knights

Wait, what now?! That is so awesome and we had no clue, thanks so much for pointing that out for us, now we gotta check that out!

The Media Knights

We definitely did find a lot to be enjoyed in this, but like you said, this movie carries the burden of having such a fantastic trilogy that's preceding it. If you're gonna continue a saga as beloved as this one, you have to justify its existence by making it reaaaally good, and telling stories that you didn't get to tell in the trilogy. But still, we did have some fun which is what matters!

The Media Knights

Ooooh that's a great recommendation, thank you so much! Definitely adding the Mask of Zorro to our list then - as well as Master and Commander!

The Media Knights

Some awesome recommendations here, thank you so much! Adding those to our list!

Melissa Creel

Don't know if links are allowed but here it is. There were some the official video didn't show of people not thinking it was actually him but then word got out. As it does. He has also been known to dress as Captain Jack Sparrow and wonder around DL doing meet and greet. He also does a lot of childeren hospitals appearances as well. https://youtu.be/BVOEj1t_C1Q?si=Q4Nzkf2XNKUECy9N

Have you guys seen Stranger Things by any chance?

Chris VanLoon

I quite agree with the reaction, Stranger Tides was basically Disney using Pirates franchise/title and Sparrow/Barbosa for some box office revenue. You can remove this film from the franchise and it essentially doesn't matter.

Kyutoko

This movie had so many twists and turns that most didn't see coming. Also, Phillip and Syrena, you need to see Splash! with Daryl Hannah and Tom Hanks, it will explain a LOT. But the lore accurate mermaids made me happy in this. I know it's not as loved as the trilogy, but it still is a fun watch. Barbossa's glow-up at the end is just peak. And yes, I do admit, this movie was not on the same level as the trilogy, but it is still a fun watch.

Sam

I hadnt seen this since it came out, I remembered liking it but I for some reason always stopped after the 3th when I rewatched these. Now I am actually glad I decided to rewatch it with you as it was a lot more fun than I expected, I agree that it lacks in a lot of ways but overall its still kinda good. If you watch the 5th I will watch it with you, but for that one i remember having a lot of issues with it, that one might actually be the reason I never came back to this one as I misremebered what happens in which movie.

Subject entry 4

Syrena wow her actor was in a guy Richie movie

PumpkinHat

This movie was better than I remember. I think the reason why I remember not liking this movie much is because it was never really supposed to happen. If you are not aware, the first movie was intended to be Will and Elizabeth as lead characters and Jack as a supporting character and in a way that's really what it was, but Johnny Depp's performance stole the show both literally and figuratively and so Jack Sparrow morphed into a pseudo lead character with the original trilogy following the story of Will and Elizabeth. In this movie, Jack Sparrow truly is the lead character and while I like the romance between the cleric and the mermaid, it doesn't measure up to Will and Elizabeth nor does Blackbeard measure up to Davy Jones or Barbosa in my opinion. So I think that after At World's End they struggled with coming up with a new compelling story after they had ended the one they intended to tell. That's why I respect movies/shows that know when to end like Death Note or Breaking Bad.

Mehdi R.

Well Death Note is based on a Japanese manga so they couldn't continue past the books

Victor Ramos

One suggestion for you guys, if you want to keep Geoffrey Rush, Legacy, Alive; watch “SHINE” first. no relation to The pirates but Amazing, performance…

Mango Powered

Why does the audio sometimes randomly cut out ? Like at the 1 hour 59 mark

Kahlan

Loved your reactions and opinions! Are you planning on watching the last one at some point in the future?

Wade Waterstreet

Funny thing is if you do a little bit of historical research, you realize that the King George that Jack meets in the beginning of the film is George I. He was primarily a Prince-Elector of the Holy Roman Empire and only inherited the throne of the UK by weird means known only to monarchies of Europe. George I coming to negotiate with an infamous pirate in London itself would've been practically unheard of. George I isn't even buried in the UK. He's buried in Germany.
