TRON (1982) FULL LENGTH MOVIE REACTION – WATCH ALONG

Comments

Matthias Fendl

Nice, a real classic! Thanks for sharing that and starting old school!

Michael Rutter

I know you guys watching the Boys so I was wondering do you watch Invincible?

Kyutoko

Greetings Programs!

Kyutoko

As a kid the MCP scared the heck outta me.

Donna Castellano

Please consider doing the TRON: Uprising animated series. It ran for two seasons. It covers the time between this one and TRON: Legacy. It's so good and I'm still pissed Disney cancelled it. Elijah Wood voices the main character. Edit to add: I finished the reaction and I knew you guys would love and appreciate what this movie set out to do. And DID. I was 6 when this hit theatres but I didn't see it until I was about 8 and I absolutely loved this movie. I was big into science fiction and all the adult talking didn't bother me. I got into Sci fi by watching Star Trek TOS reruns with my dad, starting when I was around 4. When Matrix came out, it just took aspects of this idea and ramped them up. "When the machines start thinking, the people will stop". I truly hope you'll check out Legacy. The graphics, obviously, make a huge leap forward, but so do the concepts being explored. It wasn't that well received but I don't care. I was there opening day, I loved it and was excited when Disney gave us Uprising. That failed, I think, because they were marketing to the wrong audience. It originally aired on XD, when maybe they should've put it on something else. I can't think what would've worked in 2012. But the majority of the audience was adults. Plus, they kept moving it around to various days/times on the schedule, it was hard to follow. Again, it's 19 23 minute episodes and the story is so good. If not for the channel, definitely check it out on your own time. It expands the lore a lot and the characters are awesome.

The beginning before the oasis, Before Smith; agent Smith… ITS ALSO TIME FOR VIRTUOSITY WITH Mr Bob ;)

Oooo are you guys getting ready for Ares?? 🤔 This is one of my favorite Disney movies! Can’t wait for you guys to watch Legacy!🕹️

Amper Sand

Great choice! I'm getting my popcorn and my couch seat ready :)

Melissa Creel

This is still one of my husband's favorite movies. He went to see it in the theater in 82. Still talks about that experiance.

Michael G. Munz

All these 80s computer graphics are making me think you two need to watch The Last Starfighter soon 😁

David Lonewolf Wright

I knew of the Tron arcade game when it came out during the summer of 1982 when I was 5 and I didn't see the movie till 1983, though the movie did release a month or two before the video game was released. There were multiple levels you had to go through that included the Light Cycles game and a top down version of fighting tanks on a grid. I think not knowing what the endgame for the MCP was way scarier than if it had a stated end goal.

Guston Zimasheen

This was a childhood fav. Not only did we have the arcade games but they had a blue iceblock for Summer and I had the read-along record of "The Story of Tron" that had the book with it.

I love the Last Starfighter

The Media Knights

Ooooh that sounds like it's right up our alley! Thank you so much for that recommendation, we're adding it to our list!

inspectordh

Your very welcome and thank you for all that you do for us.

The Media Knights

That must have been such an incredible experience! This movie truly is something special - the kind of inspiration we felt by how much love and work they poured into this is a rare feeling! Kinda made us wish we had our own time machine ahah

The Media Knights

Omg that sounds like such a fun and cozy plan! Thank you so much for joining us and we hope you enjoy!

The Media Knights

Oh heck yes, we're getting ready for Ares!! Cannot wait to continue the Tron journey, we're loving it so far!

The Media Knights

Truly a classic - and for good reason! Thank you so much for your support, we're so glad we get to go on this journey with y'all!

The Media Knights

We haven't watched Invincible, but it's on our list and we do intend to cover it once we have a little more time!

The Media Knights

We can only imagine - we're grown ass people and the MCP scared us 🤣🤣

Michael Rutter

Thanks for answering. Also which Jon Ham villain do you like more? Sentinel Prime from Transformers One or Buddy from Baby Driver.

The Media Knights

Oh that sounds similar to my (Denise) journey with sci-fi! I used to watch Star Trek and Stargate with my grandpa and I grew such a deep love for the genre! Can't believe I never watched this, but in a way we're both glad it took us this long because with maturity, we get to truly appreciate what they were able to accomplish in this movie. The influence this movie has had is palpable, and such a joy to witness. We're both super excited to share our reaction to Legacy, because holy cow - it's gonna be a fun one! Thank you so much for your comment and recommendation, we'll be sure to check it out!

Michael Rutter

Also keep up the great work. Big fan of you guys.

Melissa Creel

There is a big behind the scenes video that's interesting. Talks about concept to finish. The "cgi" is different than what we think of chi today. They would render the animation on a computer and as the animation ran, would film it with camera and merge everything together, somehow... It's really interesting

M@xR3acts

The digital world reminded me of Star Wars! I remembered playing Tron Evolution video game on my xbox 360.

I know I’m late with this, but I was finally able to watch predator: killer of killers a couple nights ago, and I watched your reaction right after. Question for you, did you guys watch all the way through the end credits? Past the Naru reveal? Didn’t sound like it based on your commentary. If not, you guys need to go back and watch till the end. 😶

The Media Knights

I believe the post credit scene was updated after we watched it. Hence us not talking about what happened there but it pretty much confirmed what we were asking for!

PDC717

Oh, okay. It was so amazing!

Is Tron a masterpiece of a film? No. Is it iconic? Yes. When I saw you guys were reacting to this I thought it would be interesting to see if I would be watching this with rose-tinted glasses or if it would actually hold up. I'm very glad to see that it held up. The acting isn't great, despite both Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleiter giving it a lot of camp fun. The writing could clearly improve and some of the effects could definitely use an upgrade. But honestly, there are so many good things with this film. Let's break it down: The story. The actual story is (for it's time especially) so innovative. Like you noticed, The Matrix is surely the better version of this story, but this is very smart and very fun. The aestethic. My god this still looks damn cool. The whole computer world is just awesome, neon and gorgeous. The way it's shot is fantastic and I can't complain even now, because I would say there are still films today that couldn't handle this kind of aesthetic. The expectation of the viewer. We are expected to actually understand what the heck is going on half the time, with very little exposition. I admire the bravery in that. The switcheroo. The fact that we meet Flynn and we realize quickly that he is in fact our protagonist if great. But he isn't Tron. He will never be Tron. Tron is in fact the best of the programmes, the one we in fact should be rooting for. But Flynn is so darn charming and is in fact vital. He is in many ways our Sam from Lord of the Rings, completely vital even if Tron is the one that will finish the job. Overall, it's still a lot of fun, still gorgeous and the story is still somehow relevant even tody

This film was released the year I was born. It wasn't until I was 4 or 5 years old that my parents sat me down with them in the family room to watch this on VHS video cassette. It was fantastic for its time. I haven't seen Tron Legacy yet, but I do have a copy ready to view.

Guybrush Threepwood

You will like Legacy, i just a trailer tonight for Ares and i'm excited!

Nowhere Man

From a modern perspective, the surreal "glowing" visuals seem like they might be a crude form of CGI rendering or AI filtering, but they're not. They are, in fact, one of the most labor-intensive animation techniques ever implemented. I can't accurately describe the entire process, but I'm sure there are "making of" articles or vids about this movie. Basically, every single film frame of the computer world was (human) HAND PAINTED. Let that sink in. What’s subtly funny about this movie script is that it borrows some basic computer-architecture terminology and then anthropomorphizes it so the computer system’s internal components can interact in the same way that humans do. This movie goes far beyond traditional AI concepts because the computer “magic-ware” is itself imbued with human-like personalities. In other words, the computer software isn’t merely simulating human intelligence, the magical computing ecosystem is MADE of intelligent stuff. Throughout the franchise, there’s evidence of some kind of magical human/computer-like reality that lies beyond the human universe (but is also able to somehow interact with it). If that wasn’t trippy enough, there’s some sprinklings of super deep philosophical elements in the dialog, concerning existence and identity and control and such. That is, when it isn’t busy being a silly, shallow video-game flick.
