TRON: LEGACY (2010) FULL LENGTH MOVIE REACTION – WATCH ALONG

Comments

Michael Rutter

Hey 2 questions. I saw a review of this movie saying that Jeff Bridges’s young cgi was really distracting. What did you think? Also which Jon Hamm villain do you like more? Sentinel Prime from Transformers One or Buddy from Baby Driver?

The Media Knights

The very first time we see him I did think it was a distraction. But once we are in the grid and we are looking at the digitized version it kinda made sense lore wise that he would look like that. So that's kind of my head canon to justify it. In other words Kevin Flynn is distracting, CLU not so much.

Kyutoko

I did not foresee this coming out so soon after the OG film. But I am not upset. A worthy successor and addition to the franchise. But I am partial to the subject material, I grew up with the original TRON film.

Let’s go! I knew from the emojis that you guys were gonna react to Tron, but when I saw the reaction was for the original I was somewhat disappointed as the 2010 version has that nostalgic component for me. Awesome that you guys did both!

MotoDork

The bartender at the End Of Line club is the brilliant creator of TRON and director of the original film, Steven Lisberger.

Greetings programs! Wow, TRON yesterday and Legacy the next day? Boy oh boy what a treat! My dad gave me a tip to watch TRON back in 1992 or so when I was 7-8 and it was on TV; didn't understand all of it but I was mesmerized by the concept and the visuals. Together with his tip to watch Star Wars (ep 4), this definitely started my love for SF. But I wasn't into music, any kind of music at that time; music just didn't touch me. But one day I started hearing a couple of songs on the radio that just vibed with me, I was around 9-10 when it happened. Downside of radio back then: missed the announcement, didn't know the artist nor the title of the songs. Fast forward to 1998 (13 now), and while on skiing holiday in France I saw this Austrian-MTV-like channel where out of nowhere 2 songs came by: Around the world, and Burnin. And there it was: Daft Punk was the artist, and the start of my interest in music. Became a huge fan, loved all their work etc etc. And then from 2007-2010 it all came together: First their live tour in 2007 (I broke off a vacation in Germany to be able to see them in Amsterdam) and shortly thereafter the announcement of Daft Punk doing the new TRON. It blew my mind, a perfect match made in heaven which I simply could not have imagined. To this day Legacy means something special to me, sure the movie isn't perfect and the de-aging was still in it's early days (one of the first if not the first time they went all-in on it), but to me the movie is just one big pure audio-visual orgasm, a work of art and passion. Thank you so much for doing them back-to-back giving the best immersion you and we can have! I'm a bit nervous for the new one though. For years Disney kept holding off a sequel even though fans were screaming for more. I just hope the 3rd one will once again be a real passion project; expanding the story and the world out of love, and not just "let's give the people what they want so we can make as much money as we can". But I can imagine how this is my personal fear, since: if you're a NIN fan (which I'm not, and the robots have retired) I assume you would already be excited for it all so... I'm giving Disney the benefit of the doubt :) Nothing but love, /End of line.

WE HAVE HAD TO WAIT YEARS TO THAT EXPERIENCE AND EXPRESSION; Einstein was right…

There was a rumor 10 years ago that Disney killed tron chapter 3, It was in the works, and somehow they decided to produce and film TOMORROW LAND instead; Which USED UP the whole budget and Special effects

Did you realise that the version of Tron 1982 you watches was allready looking way better compared to the way it looked 1982 when it came out? The old one is more creative and the bigger accomplishment from a filmmaker pov I guess, but this one is just such a banger in terms of visuals and music. Both are great. I dont see how a 3rd one could keep up. I guess it will be a bad version of terminator now. The virtual alien attacks the normal world and can do funny super vilian things with neon effects. But who knows, maybe I'm wrong. Lets hope for the best.

As a Daft Punk fan, watching this in the theater on my 17th birthday changed my brain chemistry for real 😂

If you guys feel like watching some animations anytime soon, give Titan A.E. (2000) a watch.

Lookin fwd to seeing the reaction on this one from you folks!

Young Flynn's garage is called Dumont - that's the name of the old program in the first movie who runs the communication tower (whose "user" was the older gentleman who originally founded Encom).

Donna Castellano

Yeah, like I mentioned in my comment on your TRON reaction, you're definitely gonna want to check out Uprising. It takes place between the original and Legacy. It's about CLU taking over the Grid and eliminating the ISOs. It's so good. IIRC, they planned for TRON 3 but canceled it when this and Tomorrowland didn't do well. Still I have no idea what Tomorrowland has to do with TRON but whatever. Cillian Murphys Edward Dillinger was supposed to have a bigger role in the third film. But that's all scrapped. To be honest, I have zero idea what TRON: Ares is about. I've purposely avoided the trailers, teasers and any information on it. I want to go in completely blind, like I did with Legacy. All I know is Jared Leto is a lead and Nine Inch Nails did the music.

Kyutoko

I have so much TRON gear in Second Life it's almost not funny. I've got a Light Cycle, I've got a full suit. I have the backpack and disc. I even have gauntlets. This franchise might have shaped my youth, much like Star Wars.

MotoDork

It's the garage where Dumont started Encom as a company (that he mentions when speaking to Dillinger). It's where Sam Flynn lives.

Michael G. Munz

"Kevin Flynn built this in A CAVE! With a box of SCRAPS!" 😁 Edit: Oh, hey, you said it, too! 🤣

If you have not seen John Q already, please watch John Q!!

TRON: LEGACY (2010) (7 of 10) very good!

Bluhawke

I love this movie. Like Pacfic Rim, there's such a good blend of practical with the CGI and it ages so much better that the pure mo-cap & "the Volume" or greenscreen stuff. The de-aging on Flynn is the roughest spot, lol. I agree that it works very well for Clu, I just wish that they had done something a little different for Flynn when he's IRL talking to young Sam. Alan is the best. Just like Tron. A protector.

@srjcalonso

I think you guys need to look into the Kingdom 1-4 movies. I think you will enjoy them.

Daniel Karlsson

If I thought it was interesting re-visiting Tron, re-visiting Legacy was actually even more interesting. I think it was at least 15 years between watching Tron until watching Legacy and honestly I was a little disappointed. Yes, it looks incredible, but I think I didn't remember Tron properly and missed a lot of the callbacks and continuity to the first one. Watching them both quickly like this made so much more sense and completely elevated Legacy for me. I am so happy I did this with you guys, because I very much enjoyed this world a lot more than I remembered. Thank you for this!

I'm new to Patron. I've been a fan for a while on YouTube. It's nice to see you uncut. I'd like to make some suggestions, if you don't mind: 1. Western Unforgiven (1992) or Thr Outlaw Josey Wales (1976) 2. Sci-fi The Final Countdown (1980) 3. Horror The Changeling (1980) 4. Comedy The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013) 5. War Patton (1970) or The Guns of Navarone (1961) or The Dirty Dozen (1967) 6. In the WTF was that category; Jack and the Beanstalk (1974) (Just for fun-Available on YouTube for free)

When making a program to help create a perfect system... add a no fascism subroutine. Yeah, the visual upgrades were spectacular and the music made the whole experience even more. Before this movie released, at Comic-Con they actually made a Flynn's Arcade... with a hidden room behind the Tron machine. Also, they recorded the crowd in the Hall H panel and used that for the fan noise in Sam's first encounters with the game grid.

Black_TYGR

I knew you’d enjoy this film! Let’s see how the 3rd edition looks when it comes to theaters in a couple of weeks…appreciate the quick turnaround with putting your reaction out. I know editing is not easy and takes a lot of time. Loved how you made some of the reaction scenes of the movie full screen (vs just PIP). Bravo to you and ur team. Keeps things fresh.

Besides that terrible deaged Jeff Bridges effect, really enjoyed this continuation.

Do you realize how meta it is to have a movie poster for the original movie appear in the opening shot of the sequel? Is it just me, or is there no way to mentally unplug Bruce Boxleitner from his Babylon 5 role?
