Comments

Can’t wait to watch this with you guys. And if you didn’t noticed the girl at the start is Violet McGraw the one who plays Cady in the M3gan films and young yelena.

KingGoji94

I was so giddy when the shining theme kicked in when they went back to the hotel

The Media Knights

It's the theatrical, we wanted more people to be able to watch it since last time there were quite a few complaints that people couldn't find the version we were watching ❤️

Guys! My guys! Been too long since I commented at length! Hope you are both well! This movie ... good god, I loved it. And I came to it without having read the book, and I was just like you; completely terrified that it would in some way spoil my love for The Shining, both book and film although they are very different. And this was the sheer genius of it; this film beautifully tied The Shining movie back to King's original intent from the book. He explores all the themes he accused Kubrick of neglecting; the alcoholism, the abuse, the violence ... and Jack Torrance's essential decency which in the book is clear before the Overlook corrupts it. Danny Torrance's wreckage of a life is such a beautiful call-back to what his father was afraid of becoming. And if you've read The Shining you'll know it ends in the utter destruction of the Overlook, which the movie does not ... and so this film beautifully calls back to the ending of the original and in exactly the same way the original novel does. The scenes that nail it are Danny's acceptance of his One Year Sober chip and his dedicating it to his dad, and then, later, the angry confrontation he has with him in the ballroom of the hotel. In those two moments, those two scenes, Flanagan manages to make this a sequel to The Shining novel AND the movie at exactly the same time. And it's perfect. A superb film. The characters are rich and brilliant. Abra is such a gem of a creation, and her power - vastly in excess of what Danny himself or The True Knot can boast - is wonderful and her courage and moral clarity are fearsome. The friendship between her and Danny is beautifully realised. McGregor is exceptional in his role. Guys, what an absolute pleasure this watch-through will be. That's my afternoon tomorrow sorted. In the meantime, thanks for keeping the amazing content coming. Love and respect from Glasgow x

Ik I just thought it might be awhile since you seen it.

I love this movie sooo much.

Hubby and I were literally just looking for something to watch tonight and this is absolutely perfect! We love this movie.

Hey James! It’s always a lovely time reading what you think of these movies and we’re so glad it hit the mark for you as well. As terrified as we were going into this it was absolutely worth the payoff at the end. Didn’t expect such an amazing conclusion to what “The Shining” started. More lore, a deep dive into characters that we care about and new characters to love. This movie had everything we were hoping from a sequel. And the recreation of the Overlook/office was just the cherry on top! Thank you for checking this out with us, hope you have a blast tomorrow. Sending all the love to Glasgow ❤️😁

The Media Knights

Wishing you both a spooky Halloween! Hope you enjoy the watch ❤️😁

Exactly what I need for a good sleep :)

Great movie, really surprised me as well in the best sense! And Ferguson with McGregor are such a joy to watch. Also noticed quite a few actors from other incredible Flanagan shows - The Fall of the House of Usher, Midnight Mass and The Haunting of Bly Manor. Highly recommend to anyone who hasn’t seen them yet!

The Shining is Kubrick. Doctor Sleep is all Stephen King. Personally, I prefer The Shining. This is a good horror film, and I love the lore building, the acting, etc. But for me personally, there's something about both King & Flanagan's work that seems to rely on a thread of gratuitous shock factor for their storytelling. It's not necessarily a bad thing--although some times it gets heavy-handed, particularly with King--they both seem to wield it in a way that feels "real." Like the shock is because the darkness/perversion isn't beyond the realm of belief for human nature. But, again, just for me, it gets old fast. Especially when it involves kids.

Came back to Patreon just for this. I was one of the ones who recommended it so long ago. I’m so glad you ended up loving it 🥰

So glad you liked it as much as I did. I don't think the original will ever be done better but I thought this was a great follow up. Not only a great omage to the original but brought its own flavor.

Losing Billy devastates me every time😩😩 really enjoy this movie, though. Story is great as well as all the actors. The baseball boy is in Before I Wake, which is really good & he left an impression but it could've been because he was so adorable lol

I know your guy's list is quite long but to break up the numerous heavy movies you guys have been watching for the Halloween season, I think you guys should watch the Ice Age series or the Minion/Despicable Me series. Both are amazing and hilarious and I think you both will get a kick out of them. Especially the Despicable Me/ Minion series if you love the nostaglia soundtrrack

Miss Maya

Incredible movie.. did such justice to the first one and ties into it so perfectly while being its own amazing thig

I love this film so much and properly geeked out when I watched this in the cinema years ago, especially when they go to the Overlook Hotel - goosebumps/chills 😱😱😱 When I saw you were reacting to this and had just rewatched The Shining I had to sign upto your Patreon straightaway - I knew you’d love this one too and you can tell Mike Flanagan is a massive fan of Stephen King and the original film ❤️ Great reaction guys 😎🤩

danzthename

This is such a worthy follow up to the original movie. Never imaged it was possible to pull that off, but Flanagan and King nailed it. The nostalgia is a ton of fun of course, but I also really love the new characters, especially Abra. She's so fearless, and I love that we don't spend the whole movie watching her try to overcome her fears. She comes out fighting right out the gate. She owns her powers and doesn't let anything stand in her way. She's essentially a superhero. If they made a third book or movie about her, I would not complain.

Please react to the Long Walk, another one of Stephen King' works.

Time to watch NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN

I looooove this film so much. I enjoyed the shinning a lot but I'm not as attached as some people are to it. So I can easily say doctor sleep is my favorite out of the 2 movies. I think I got the emotional connections that I didn't get as much in the first movie. King not liking the original cause of its coldness and lack of heart. I understand where he gets that feeling. This movie makes me tear up with those character beats. Such a great film

Michelle MacNeily

I'm late to the game, but I love this movie, would love it if you guys ever did The Haunting of Hill House, it's a perfect series to me.

Michelle MacNeily

And listening to your comments ya’ll already did never mind hahaha

Jess Hartmann

Hi! A bit late to the party, but I wanted to find out if either of you ended up going back to read the book?
