This movie is heavy! Great performances from Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano And Terrence Howard. I did not see that ending coming!

Barry’s (Alex’s) mother (or Barry himself, if he’s mentally fit) could possibly not pursue extreme charges against Keller, and a Judge could also decide to reduce any sentence as “time served” for his mental anguish, but that’s even if he survives his wounds or if Loki even finds him to begin with. Even though it’s ambiguous, I think Loki would probably find him, but Keller had been losing blood and was exposed in hyperthermic condition for several days… But at any rate…Since you both pointed out that you enjoyed Terrance Howard’s performance in this, then I HIGHLY recommend watching 2004’s Crash (not to be confused with the 1996 Cronenberg film of the same name)…He completely knocks it out if the park. The film itself has a total star-studded cast, and is about the powder keg of racism, classism and culturalism in early 2000’s Los Angeles, with a masterful plot involving several interwoven narratives. Matt Dillon, Michael Peña, and Thandie Newton in particular give *very* powerful performances, but it also has Don Cheadle, Sandra Bullock, and Brendan Fraser (among others) at the top of their game…Guaranteed to move and shake you emotionally ❤️😌

Thank you so much for the suggestion! We’re adding it to our list. Sounds like a great time with strong performances. We’d like to think Loki did find him. After all he’s very thorough and definitely heard the whistle. But of course who knows how weak Keller would be by the time they find him. And if he did we would hope that the sentence would be less severe. Love open endings that leave room for interpretation after completing the main arc!

This was the film that introduced me into the world of Denis Villeneuve.. Such a well made film that makes you feel the need to shower after too

This is a great movie, and a fantastic reaction. I love how you both fully experience the roller coaster of the good news/bad news highs and lows, and it reminds me of my first time watching. A great watch-along experience. Beyond the actual heart-racing mystery of the movie, I think it's also a fascinating interrogation of post-9/11 Americana from the perspective of a non-American filmmaker. With each of the 4 parents victimized by the crime, you get to witness the spectrum of the possible reactions to crisis. Obviously, we zero in on Keller's doomsday prepper, and I've been very interested since first seeing the movie to explore his character further. I wonder what both Villeneuve and Jackman think of that character, both being non-Americans. Despite the actual crime committed to launch the story, it's my opinion that Villeneuve sees Keller as the villain of the larger story he's telling. A man who is self-proclaimed prepared for anything is totally unprepared for what his family experiences, and he immediately turns to misguided violence. He's so sure he's right that he ultimately victimizes everyone around him. Just some food for thought. I'd be curious to hear other opinions. Anyway, great reaction! I just started following you on Patreon a few days ago and couldn't wait to watch along to this one. I look forward to watching many more. Keep up the great work!
