Welcome (past tense) to this amazing franchise. There couldn’t have been a more-perfect casting for Katniss. And the others too. I love the look of disgust when Katniss looks at her own dress. She’s not a dress-wearing kinda girl. It’s fascinating, the juxtaposition of District 12, with its 19th-century technologies, and the Capitol, with technologies that extend far beyond our own 21st century. In the 5th Hunger Games movie you watch (the first prequel), there’re accusations of a rigged drawing. But relative to this story, there doesn’t seem to be any reason for rigging this particular drawing, other than the author setting up future events. The upcoming 6th Hunger Games movie (another prequel) is going to be about the games where Haymitch won. This is the moment where President Snow sees something haunting. You’ll find out (much) later why. Katniss’s superpower is being snarky: “Thank you ... for your consideration.” “Maybe you should throw the sword.” “I’m sorry it didn’t go the way they planned. I’m not happy with them either.” The reason the other tribute knew where to step around the booby trap is because the tribe members who had repositioned the mines had already repeatedly stepped in specific places to reach the stockpile. All she had to do was follow their footsteps. There’re some ugly realities about the wolf mutts that the movie doesn’t explain: they are designed to look like the tributes who died in the Games—each wearing a collar with their district number. Once again, District 12 is a thorn in President Snow's side.
