The townhouse rejects every key Edward inherited until I speak the name engraved inside the final envelope: Evelyn. Brass warms against my fingers. My coat opens around a forest-green dress, copper hair falls across my shoulders, and a sudden weight changes my balance. I look down to find my hand already protecting the curve of a pregnant belly. Inside, a man calls Evelyn from the kitchen with the easy concern of someone who has watched this body change for months. His face is unfamiliar, but memories arrive when he touches my shoulder: our first date, the nursery upstairs, the argument over names.
