Sam enters the identity simulator to test whether a user can invent a convincing second profile. The program builds Sophie from choices he never admits making: the dark hair, the blue satin, the softer voice used only when nobody is listening. Then it ranks her as the more coherent identity. When the trial ends, Sam's credentials expire and Sophie's remain active. His phone unlocks only after his face changes to match hers. The apartment warms the lights, opens a wardrobe in her size, and displays years of purchases Sam does not remember allowing himself to want.
