I arrive at the reunion as Chloe because my closest friend promises nobody will make a scene. I am still a man beneath the teal dress and careful makeup, and every step across the room feels rehearsed. The table falls quiet anyway. Then David, who sat beside me in chemistry, pulls out the chair next to his and says he wondered when I would finally come as myself. He remembers the name Chloe written inside my notebook and how quickly I crossed it out whenever anyone looked.
