The station's forecast system generates Caroline because test viewers trust her more than Carl, the meteorologist whose data she repeats. At first, she exists only on the studio monitors: copper hair, cobalt dress, a warmer version of his voice. Then the live camera counts down and decides the presenter standing on set must match the image being broadcast. Carl's body changes between three and two. Caroline reaches zero with one hand already extended toward the storm front. She delivers the warning without losing a number, then improvises when the map fails.
