I step in for the absent actress because the lighting team needs someone of similar height. The costume department pins the scarlet gown around my padding, fits a dark wig, and paints Daniel's face until the monitor shows Lady Corinne. I am supposed to stand still while technicians measure shadows. Then the director asks me to read one line for timing. Corinne's voice silences the set. By the third rehearsal, nobody remembers I am temporary. When the actress finally arrives, she watches from the doorway as two costume workers adjust my neckline and prepare another take.
