The discussion this episode was awesome. Canute's denouncement of god and his awakening of sorts was such a cool element in this art of the story. i remember reading the manga during this part and just feeling mind-blown by the while idea and thinking how interesting of an angle it was. can't wait to see more from you guys! 💖

In the priest’s eyes, to be born is to be expelled from the kingdom of heaven. To live is a sin. To love means to hate, so let’s put all these feelings in a spectrum and call it discrimination, the core discrimination is to choose to live (meaning something has to die) and love is death is repenting is indiscriminatory. Canute said I choose life, and I’m going to create love in the eyes of man rather than god.

Episode 18 really cemented my love for this show. I believe you guys were able to parse out the writers intent regarding Love vs Discrimination even though the newcomers were a bit confounded at first lol. It's gonna be a wild ride from now til the end of season! Keep up the great work y'all 👍🏾

At around 36:00 a discussion on Thors' character came up. I just want to remind you guys that Thors did not die a meaningless death lol Bjorn literally had Thorfinn at knife point. Had he moved in on Askeladd to finish him off, Bjorn would've killed Thorfinn anyway. He died to save his son, the crew he was traveling with, and the village (had Thors managed to survive, I'm sure the leader of the Jommsvikings would of went after the village as punishment for desertion). It sucks that Thorfinn ended up in this situation, but Thors denouncing killing and violence has nothing to do with it. He literally had no other choice but to go out like that, making it all the more heartbreaking when he dies...

This whole series does a great job displaying how the church (and Christians in general) during this time frame rarely taught the doctrine they were supposed to teach, and it just goes to show the viewer how completely backwards their logic was. Canute is right, it doesn't make sense for God to expect people to live every day of their life perfectly without sin...but that's also not what they were supposed to do. They were unnecessarily holding themselves to a works-based religion, and expecting rewards for those continued acts of servitude, which isn't biblical. Although, later on in this show we do hear a very small amount of another interpretation of biblical values, so I'm wondering how you guys will consider that vs Canute's revelation here.
