You guys are right. Snake's a refined, skilled warrior whose movements reminded Thorfinn of Askeladd. Thorfinn's battle-hardened, so he instinctively can react to someone going for the kill. Fox clearly wasn't going to go for the kill, he was just torturing Thorfinn, so Thorfinn didn't react. Snake pretends to go for the kill to test how Thorfinn would react, and Thorfinn surprises everyone including himself.

I know you guys cover the episode titles usually, but for the end of Season 1 I think the gang might have missed that the episode title was literally "End of Prologue". And might I say what a ballsy move to write that massive and complex story just to say "Alrighty now the background info has been worked out, let's start the story for real." A reminder that Einar's village was first destroyed by the English armies under orders of the King. This would have been around the same period early in Season 1 where King Sweyn's sister was killed by the English soldiers as they attacked Danish settlements in the Daneslaw (land essentially forfeited to the Denmark by England that was settled by Nordic immigrants). The vikings aren't the only bad guys in this story, anyone picking up a sword or going to war is fair game
