I think its interesting to note when characters mention things that dont really fit in this world, like when Ymir compared the beast titan to a monkey. Eren is like monkey???? Because he dosent know what a monkey is haha

There is also the moment in the battle for trost where Reiner here’s the whistle of a Titan Eren threw and he says hit the deck and no one hits the deck bc the only boats they have are the river boats in the evacuation

I don't think that's Eren not knowing what a monkey is, but not knowing about the Beast titan yet. He says "Monkey? What's this about a monkey?" as in "Why are you talking about a monkey?" rather than "What is a monkey?" but that's my interpretation. While their knowledge of the world is limited I don't think it's impossible for them them know about monkeys or potentially even have some species within the walls considering how big it is and how diverse the biomes are across it's territory.

i know this is literally 8 months later, but eren and everyone living in paradise do not know what monkeys are. the subtitles are mistranslated i think cause in the manga eren says "what's this 'ape'?" since the ape is in quotation marks, i'm assuming he's just repeating the word back as he heard it and doesn't know what an ape/monkey is. pretty sure apes and monkeys are found in more tropical regions so while yes the land in the walls are huge, i don't think it's diverse enough to have monkeys living in it. i think this is also the reason why despite the fact that it obviously looks like a monkey/ape, everyone else within the walls calls him "the beast titan" instead of a monkey. same reason as to why later on, armin is confused on what's in the cups armin, bert and zeke were drinking from on top of the wall because he has never seen coffe before and coffee is usually grown and made in tropical regions as well
