Many people don’t know that Adria Arjona and Emilia Clarke star together in a TV series titled Criminal, based on the comic book of the same name by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips.

The Criminal series follows multiple generations of families entangled in a seedy underworld, bound by past crimes and murders. Set in the fictional Center City, it dives into the lives of thieves, robbers, and outcasts, exploring themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the inescapable pull of a criminal life. The first season centers on two main arcs:

Coward Arc (inspired by Criminal: Coward):The story focuses on Leo (Charlie Hunnam), a brilliant but cautious master thief nicknamed “Coward” for his no-guns, no-violence approach to heists. Raised in crime by his father, Tommy, Leo is a pickpocket prodigy who plans jobs with surgical precision, always prioritizing escape routes. When he’s pressured into a high-stakes armored car heist orchestrated by corrupt cops, the job spirals into chaos, forcing Leo to go on the run. His dire situation tests his survival instincts as he navigates double-crosses and mounting threats.

Mallory’s Role (Emilia Clarke): Mallory is a daring armed robber and Leo’s ally in the heist crew, bringing a fiery edge with her quick draw and sharp mind. She’s locked in a passionate, volatile romance with Ricky Lawless (Gus Halper), described as a Bonnie-and-Clyde dynamic. Their relationship fuels tense, intimate moments—likely post-heist scenes with heated embraces or charged glances in dimly lit hideouts—reflecting the comic’s noir style, where sex underscores trust or manipulation. These scenes, while sensual, remain grounded, avoiding exaggerated expressions or poses, and focus on emotional stakes (e.g., whether Mallory’s secrets will unravel the crew).

Greta’s Role (Adria Arjona): Greta, a widowed car thief and ace getaway driver, is pivotal to the heist’s execution, her skills keeping the crew one step ahead. Haunted by her husband’s death in a botched job, she’s a single mother to Angie, desperate for a final score to escape crime. Greta’s arc is less romantic, with no confirmed sexual scenes; her focus is on high-octane chases and protecting her daughter. If intimacy appears, it might be a subtle flashback to her husband, shown through tender gestures rather than explicit poses, emphasizing her longing for a lost life.

Lawless Arc (inspired by Criminal: Lawless):The narrative shifts to Tracy Lawless (Luke Evans), a soldier gone AWOL, who returns to Center City to uncover who murdered his younger brother, Ricky. Infiltrating Ricky’s old gang, Tracy digs into a web of family secrets and criminal loyalties, confronting how their father, Teeg Lawless—a violent enforcer—shaped their doomed paths. This arc expands the saga of the Lawless family, tying past sins to present conflicts, with Tracy’s quest for truth clashing against the underworld’s code.

Mallory’s Role: Romantically tied to Ricky Lawless, Mallory is central to this arc’s emotional core. Her past relationship with Ricky may surface in flashbacks—possibly steamy moments like a clandestine hookup in a dive bar backroom, styled like the comic’s shadowed panels. These scenes highlight her conflicted loyalties, avoiding cartoonish expressions, and keep the focus on her role as a survivor caught between love and betrayal.

Greta’s Role: Greta’s involvement here is less clear but likely peripheral, perhaps crossing paths with Tracy as a driver for the gang. Her story remains rooted in personal stakes—evading the life that killed her husband. Intimate moments are minimal, prioritizing her struggles and maternal drive.

About the Sexual Content:

The Criminal comic book contains no explicit sex or nudity, only partial scenes, most notably involving Mallory, played by Emilia Clarke. After a heist, Mallory and Ricky Lawless share a sexual moment in which Mallory removes some clothing, but there is no full nudity, and the sexual content is understated, not prominently depicted.

While it’s possible the TV series could include more sex or nudity, it’s highly unlikely to be excessive, as the show is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, known for balancing mature themes with restraint in dramas like The Expanse. The series will likely maintain the comic’s noir tone, focusing on emotional and psychological depth rather than graphic content.

The series is currently in post-production, with filming completed in late 2024 and a premiere expected in late 2025.
