Let's build a big city... By hand-placing 9000 residents | Cities Skylines 2

Ain't nothing like a massive new expansion, adding nearly 10.000 new residents and an entirely new inner-city district! Oh, and some complex highway infrastructure and fun new tram networks. And a gorgeous church! Zeeburg is a realistic, historic North Sea coastal city based on a mixture of Dutch, German, and Central European influences. ► Channel Membership for Early-Access to most new uploads, badges, and emojis: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuw9Zx8ZJOnjStiAWSZOKLg/join ► Patreon for Early-Access to most new uploads, save games, and more: https://www.patreon.com/infrastructurist ► Merchandise: https://infrastructurist-shop.fourthwall.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ 💻 Hardware specs - note: You support the channel with a small commission if you buy through any of these links, at no extra cost to you :-) GPU: Asus 4080 Super OC ProArt - https://amzn.to/3K9qQFv CPU: Ryzen 9 9950X - https://amzn.to/3JStPSM RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5-6000 RAM (CL30) - https://amzn.to/47YNeLm MIC: Shure MV7+ - https://amzn.to/46eu5D5 HEADSET: Arctic Pro Wireless - https://amzn.to/46yIpHO ------------------------------------------------------------ 🗺️ Map Saint Malot by Epsilon2486: https://mods.paradoxplaza.com/mods/115710/Any ------------------------------------------------------------ 🛠️ Important Mods The incredible Netherlands pack by Feindbold, Gèze, Gruny, and REV0: https://mods.paradoxplaza.com/mods/121130/Windows (You should just get ALL the packs!) Silence please! Our G.O.A.T. has published a new episode. 😎

1) Yes, those tram grades are too steep, but ignore it. 2) Upgrade the road under the train tracks to have separated tram. 3) You would not reverse a tram at the station because it would require the driver to change ends, and switch the tram mode, blocking the station for minutes -- use your loop. 4) Don't forget you can do underground and elevated trams stops and connect them with paths or pedestrian roads. 5) You could take your tram up on a dedicated bridge and over the highway to the run through the low rent housing area and then back across the railways to your future development. 6) Activate your parks with at least small plazas. 7) You need bike parking near shops and recreation,

I know it's probably too late to fix it but I think the older train station doesn't really fit into the area that it's currently placed in. Ideally there needs to be more of a continuation of the older rowhouse architecture out to it and surrounding it. Likewise the double digit storey buildings don't make sense either. If it's possible some of the bridges need to have stone facades, the constant american highway infrastructure is really jarring and doesn't make much sense so close to the historical centre.

When that station was built, there would have had to have been a justification for it to be placed so far out, i.e the city had extended that far out already and there would be a historic corridor connecting it to the centre. Otherwise it would have been brought closer if that area was unbuilt swathes of grassland. Either the station needs to be swapped for something late 20th / 21st century or the city leading up to it needs to be adjusted.

Hey Zak, Thanks for the feedback, some good points! Let me preface this by saying I don't put historical narrative into everything I build. While doing so might lead to fewer "holes" in the historical fabric of the city, and result in something closer to the stereotypical idea of what a European city is, it would also make the build process a less fun and less creative for me, so it's very much a balancing act - especially since I like to include "less ideal" elements in all my cities :-) With that said I'll try to address each of your points, not to rebuke them (I'll likely do adjustments to the build!), but just to share how I see it: I don't think it's unrealistic for the old station to be at its current distance away from old town. While the main historic station is usually located in an older, central location of a city, it's not necessarily (or even usually) located within the actual oldest part of the city that may have roads and roots potentially dating back +1000 years. Lübeck is a great example of this, a city which has at least in part inspired Zeeburg. The oldest architecture in Concordia and Neuville looks to be from the 1870-1880s roughly, and it could be the same for the station. The city might have had a smaller (or several smaller) station(s) beforehand, like in Frankfurt's case, at around the same location. I think something that makes it feel further away from oldtown than what might be ideal is 1) Concordia Park. If the park wasn't there but the entire area was populated by 1870's onwards buildings, this would make the transition from oldtown to the station feel more dense/continued. So I think Concordia needs more love! And 2) if Neuville continued on for several additional blocks before the park that seperates it from the highway. I think making Concordia and Neuville bigger would be nice so that could be a good move. I do make scale concessions to maintain decent performance but sometimes it doesn't look right. As for the highway, I fully agree that it's really not ideal with it being so relatively close to Neuville. I comment on this a few times in the vid, a poor decision of the the 1970s, but I might change a few things, and ensure that all the road builder segments I have used have a lower speed limit than a regular highway and thus fit more into the "expressway" idea, which is already the case for some of them. I'm not fully certain which "double digit" buildings you specifically refer to (older, or more modern?) but as mentioned a few times I love Rotterdam and Frankfurt, so that inspiration seeps in :-) In Frankfurts case, you'll have +100 year old buildings flanked by modern glass towers. The final joker in all of this is ofcourse the potential effects of WWII on the city. I mentioned it (in a subtle, YouTube friendly manner) in one of the first episodes as a potential reason for the modern station district looking the way it does, as an example.
