We were not ready for what happened

Lydia

The way the ep ends with just "He will." Literal chills. This is where the ride of your life starts guys! Now give us eps 9, 10, and season two 1-5 thanks!

Abbysase

Arya in the book is left handed! So the actress learned how to sword fight left handed to stay as close to the book!

Lydia

Also idk about others but I didn't feel anything towards "Targaryens" cause we didn't get to know much about them really. I just felt like I was glad we didn't have to see the Mad King's shenanigans cause that would have been too much for tv lol I just knew i instantly loved Dany

MrGuy3000

About who belongs on the throne , I say targs simply because they made it. Also that conversation at the end is interesting because the targs while they were weakening rapidly they still held on to power for like 200 more years after the good king viserys died

LullaBelle

I really wanna watch it, but I’ll wait until you drop the other two so I can have a nice little binge. Waiting (im)patiently. 😄

Synapse Surge

I almost agree with McKay about picking sides in GoT, buuuuuuut Tyrion...

Curtis

When I watched the first season of game of thrones I just remember not caring about the Targaryen's because they are just so far away from the rest of the story. Watching house of the dragon first makes you care for them a lot more and probably makes you more interested in her story.

Not sure how far you guys are ahead on watching from this upload (doubt you’re in season 3 yet/just a few episodes into season 2) but I can’t stress this enough. In season 3 episode 4 there’s an huge atomic spoiler for HOTD at the 16 minute mark. I’m sure someone else has told you guys already but again like I said it’s a huge spoiler and I don’t want you guys to ruin the experience of HOTD since that’s what most of you boys started with and made you like the world of ASOIAF to begin with.

Chad-gon Targaryen

I will say in terms of comparing Team Green to the Lannisters I feel like it’s apples and oranges. At least the Lannister’s are clearly competent, ruthless, strive openly for power, and have a certain “je ne sais quoi” about them. The Hightowers on the other hand are either misguided or annoying (Alicent), a pathetic rage monster (Criston), lifelong schemer (Otto), and a weak mommy’s boy king (Aegon). Tywin alone projects more strength and backbone than all of team Green.

Carter’s squeamishness kills me lol. The look of horror on his face whenever there is ever any blood shed…or weird food eaten…or animated snot…you gotta feel for the guy.

The Hill Tribes in Westeros are basically Wildings who were living South of the Wall when it was built. The Wildings and the Hill Tribes are both descended from the First Men, who were the first wave of humans to settle Westeros. And so are the majority of the noble houses and small folk of the North. A great deal of the rest of Westeros is populated by the Andals, the second wave of men who migrated to Westeros. In the Vale (the area where Catelyn’s sister resides) the ruling Houses are almost all made up of people who descended from the Andals. They defeated the First Men who resided there. And the Hill Tribes consist of many of those people who were defeated by the Andals. So they would love to get what Tyrion was offering them; the ability to get control of the Vale back from the men who conquered them and drove them into the hills in the first place. That is why Tyrion taunted them by saying that they hide in the hills and shiver when the Knights of the Vale ride past.

Andrew Lynch

Great convos at the end as always. I would DEFINITELY recommend the lore. Worldbuilding is probably GRRM’s strongest quality as the author he goes so in depth and you’ll understand so many more references

That post discussion of HOTD first viewers is so interesting because you guys are probably one of the only few people (far less reactors) who would have watched HOTD before GOT. Watching GOT for the first time I was interested in the Targs because of the idea of dragons. Coming from HOTD you guys already know of how dangerous and fantastical dragons are and even seen one of the Mythic OGs (Vhaegar), so the Targs may not be as interesting to you guys as they were to people like me. The thing is though, the way they tell GOT is just on a much more grande scale than HOTD. HOTD is a contained story but GOT is an entire universe and has infinitely more lore, way beyond dragons (so far at least) than HOTD.

Blackeyedlily

Yes, twins are common in the Lannister family. There are several sets of them throughout the stories written in this universe.

when i first watched this show, at this point in the story i had already kind of fallen in love with dany’s character and to a lesser extent, the targaryens as a concept. as simple as it is, i really was just fascinated by their connections with dragons and the mysterious magic that cements that union. upon learning more about their lore, i was kinda conflicted because they def aren’t good people as a collective, but as characters in a story they’re j so epic. they’re so interesting and entertaining, and i don’t think they’re unambiguously bad on a person to person basis. i also think their situation offers an interesting perspective on blood lines and stuff like that because the story explores the importance (or arguably lack thereof) of bloodlines, yet being a dragon rider is absolutely dependent on the presence of targaryen blood. tldr: targs are pretty sick, dragon go brr 🫡

Ana

Please do the history and lore videos they're really cool. Non spoiler and helps you understand the world much better

Peyton

i guess that vote didnt mean shit

Twuan

Its lore videos on YouTube of all 17 Targaryen kings that ruled in Westeros over a 300 yr span

Alexa

These Lannister rats really get me going, even though I've seen the whole series already. The rage is real

Marcus

The Ser Barristan scene always pisses me right off. The disrespect is absolutely unbelievable.

Ana

This episode was soooo good. Robb enters the game. My second fav character. The Lannisters suck but they have some interesting members in their family. I definitely hate team green more than Lannister. Team green are just full of weird people that don't have the right to be doing what they're doing. Just so annoying lol. Like team green are fake. They act above everyone else when they are bad people. The Lannisters don't hide. You know what you get with them. When I first watched GoT I immediately read the books. I like Dany but there are waaay more cooler families than the Targeyans. I always loved the Starks and the north stuff more than dragons

danidelight

So many great characters are emerging at this point. The chess pieces are movinggg

Osvaldo

The Velaryons were the wealthiest and Lannisters probably 2nd or 3rd in HOTD.

sushi

Targaryens are the best house hands down. I watched GoT first, and instantly loved the Targaryens. their lore is unparalleled, and I think what draws a lot of watchers/readers in are the Targaryens themselves.

Kite

saying Viserys didn't do anything evil is crazy, he forced his wife to birth multiple kids to get a son and he chose not to save his wife, I still like him but he wasn't a perfect king/person

𝕯𝖎𝖆𝖓𝖆 𖤐

"I find it so strange that she uses her left hand" OKAY JACK we left handed people exist in the world 🥲

Sara

Team green using "supporting incest" as an argument against team black is so funny considering how Aegon is literally married to his SISTER lmao

Dude Man McGee

5am, just noticed this drop, hope to god i'm not closing tomorrow

BipolarKitten

Someone should sponsor socks for Cannon.

Goat-ruto

Targaeryan stans

Lukash

HotD s1 made me hate Targaryens. Besides Viserys there is not a single Targaryen that is not absolutely terrible or a psychopath. I dont understand Carters bias towards them at all :D

Jake

Cannon boi, there is no such thing as a Joffrey stan

BreezyBri

People using “incest” as an excuse to not support Targaryens is so dumb. Literally everyone in this world plus the actual world has participated in incest at some point in history. All the other houses marry cousins. It’s seen as acceptable, but Targaryens just take it a step further with the brother and sister thing. Whether cousin or sibling it’s still incest. There is no innocent house in GOT or HOTD

brittany beyerle

i absolutely love hearing all of the theories you guys have. oh, you sweet summer children, you have no idea and it's going to be an epic ride.

Ayaulym🇰🇿

Actually it was the opposite for me. Being used to seeing 1 targaryen on screen and bunch of Starks and Lannisters, I hesitated to watch House of the Dragon. Especially considering how in GOT the fate of Rhaenyra and some of her kids WILL BE MENTIONED. So you basically had to watch house of the dragon knowing that house targaryen will eventually fail and what will happen to Rhaenyra

Nicole

Watching you guys watch this is so awesome! Your theories and discussions so good! You are in for such a fucking ride! This show is soooooo good! Watching HOTD is so different you see so many different houses and players in GOT where HOTD is black or green. It must be weird watching that first, besides Daenerys the Targaryens are gone. Like I said this show is a wild ass ride!

Shreya

your in for a ride the politics and backstories and characters in GOT are so much more complex than HOD and how everything ties up is pretty insane

Matis

i hope that there aren't actually any Joffrey stans out there cuz imma nuke this planet if there are

Andy tee

"I find it so weird that she uses her left hand" Jackson's gonna lose his mind when he finds out left handed people exist 😅

Jmann

The Nick Eh 30 reference 😂

Cookie

Joffrey can die

Taesbil

Brig saying "There's no way the Lannisters will wipe out the Starks in season 1" and looking at McKay intensively to see if his expression betrays anything 😂😂

Taesbil

I swear Cannon is always light-years ahead of the plot, lol. Both in AoT and here. Mentioning Tyrion being a Hand in S1 is crazy :D

Taesbil

About the conversation regarding who is the rightful king - sure, House Targaryen has dragons no more, and that was initially how they got to power. Now, I am applying CK3 logic here, but I think it's all about the claim. Aegon the Conqueror created the Seven Kingdoms. Robert took that title centuries later, but the would-be next in line from House Targaryen still has a claim to it. Ergo, legally speaking, Viserys and later Daenerys is the rightful ruler at this point.

Taesbil

Sorry, I'm leaving many comments this time around 😅 1:07:19 There are a couple, allegedly - King Daeron the Good was said to be a kind and wise ruler (as per 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'). You might also remember King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, Viserys' predecessor in HoTD. He was also said to be a wise king. So yes, I do believe it is possible to sit the Iron Throne and be a good, just ruler. I'm sure our world has known many a wise king or queen also. Saying that, I believe it's realistic to assume that power, and/or being groomed into power, does corrupt many.

5:24 The First Sword Of Braavos 🐐

Kadence

The hightowers are neither the oldest nor wealthiest. The wealthiest in HOTD is supposedly the Velaryons

Kadence

The end discussion highlights to me the issues with starting with HOtD. The story was never intended to be experienced as a targ glazer, they are a chaotic house and historically have screwed over the seven kingdoms since they pulled up.
