I'm assuming you guys have already watched episode 5, so I don't think this is a spoiler. The entity that the red woman (I'm avoiding saying her name because I don't think you have that info yet) gave "birth" to is called a Shadow Assassin. The Red Priests and Priestesses serve The Lord of Light and they believe these creatures are servants of their Lord because light is what casts shadows. Creating the Shadow Assassin required drawing some of Stannis's life force, which is why they can't create a lot of them. Drawing too much of his life force would eventually weaken him to the point of death.

There wasn't 9 months in between the time Stannis and the red woman had sex and when they met Renly no, It's safe to assume that she speed the pregnancy through magic, there iS also foreshadowing of what the babe was gonna be in the dialogue they do talk about shadows and their own perception about them. She also points out this is the lord of light's work "shadows are servants of light, the children of fire"

I’ve heard that the books contain significantly more information and use of magic, but yes, there is magic in Game of Thrones. Sadly, it isn’t shown enough.

We don't necessarily know if magic comes from gods or if it's inherently present in their world and just attributed to gods. I prefer it being this way as it feels more real. After all, many people worship a god or gods on Earth without ANY objective signs of their existence.

FYI, about Melisandre, the religion that she is a priestess of is R’hllor. It is quite common in the continent where Daenerys is, Essos. But it is not very popular in Westeros. George R. R. Martin based his fantasy religions of this world on real life religions. The Old Gods of the North is a type of pagan, nature religion. And it was practiced by the native inhabitants of Westeros and eventually adopted by the First Men. The Faith of the Seven is based on Catholicism, practiced in the Septs by Septons and Septas. These are basically their churches, priests and nuns. The Silent Sisters are a special type of their nuns, who see to the dead. They brought Catelyn the bones of Ned for her to take home to Winterfell in this episode. The Faith of the Seven was brought to Westeros by the second wave of human migration called the Andals. R’hllor is based on two real world religions. The Lord of Light is inspired by the dualism in Zoroastrianism and Catharism. Zoroastrianism is a religion that emphasizes the sacred fire. I won’t give additional details that could lead to spoilers. But you will learn more about R’hllor as you watch further episodes. And all of these religions are explained further in the History and Lore episodes.

Another great reaction. The books is way more magic heavy. They decided to cut a lot of it out because they wanted to expand the audience. They didn't just want fantasy nerds to watch it. Which is so dumb. I hate they cut so much. It's soooo cool. Also magic has been gone and with the dragons coming back that means more magic is coming back. Also Joffrey is just sick there's nothing else to it. Honestly most of the men on this show is like Joffrey. Joffrey is just a main character so you'll see it more. Example the Mountain and his crew are worse. You guys were asking why are they doing this to random people. Well it's just because they love to torture, murder and rape. So yeah men were just sick back then. And it's not exclusive to just one place. We seen it all over the place in GoT. Can't wait for the next one
