Does anyone else have a problem with the resolution suddenly dropping for a minute or two before returning to HD? This has happened on a couple of videos and I can't tell if it's the video itself or the Patreon platform. I had the same issue on 2 different PCs and on my phone, so I know it's not my devices.

Dragons lust for gold goes back to ancient myths about dragons. And dragons are often symbolically used as representations of greed. Many ancient myths have dragons hoarding gold and keeping maidens hostage. And both of these things are basically of no real use to a dragon. But it did give knights a reason to fight the dragons, in order to save the maiden and claim the treasure. There is even a famous Norse myth where greed turned a king into a dragon. It’s these tropes that Tolkien was drawing upon and where his idea for “dragon sickness” comes from as an allegory for greed.

Not as good as the first trilogy but it’s still really good to watch and rewatch 📈 7-8/10 😁

Those Stone-giants reminded me of the Thunderclasts from Oathbringer

Something I still say to this day after first seeing this movie, when the Goblin King says "that'll do it". I say that all the time lmao.

Addy was right to notice that Thorin, Fili and Kili look different from the other dwarves. Fili and Kili are Thorin's nephews, and since Thorin has no children they are also his heirs. They are from the same line of Durin (the branch of Erebor) and that makes them the line of kings among dwarves. Thats the likely reason in the lore, though the actual reason is probably that they wanted some attractive dwarves in the company as a marketing ploy for the movie.

Sasha (Mr. Prince is my bias)

I would have a crash out too if 13 dwarves barged into my home uninvited. Maybe my glock wouldn't cut it so I would have to use a good old ak 47.

Mysterious Figure

Addie's comments about the two "more attractive dwarves" made me laugh so hard LMAO. She is literally me when I was that age. Actually... I am still a degenerate like that so Addie and me would be best pals. Oh and FINALLY Bradlynn! - SOMEONE finally has a scoring scale that makes sense. Everyone keeps scoring stuff nowadays as if there are only scores from 7-10 and nothing else exists so what's the point of having a scale from 1-10 then?

For movie ideas, I’d like to suggest Train to Busan and Parasite, two award-winning popular Korean films

Im reading the book rn for my uni final paper so I can tell you (I was surprised aswell lol) the movies quite deviate from the book. As Carter said, the book is a children's book, its a lot more light-hearted and cheerful as the story focuses on the adventure of the companionship as one collective unit rather than building each character, and Bilbo's development is in the centre obv. Major plot points are there but e.g. in the book Thorin doesnt appear at Bilbo's door last like an emo-lord, Gandalf is the last and Thorin kinda blends in with other dwarves and isnt at all arrogant and entitled (even though other ppl recognize him as the king), also all dwarves disrespect Bilbo and not just Thorin, because Bilbo is depicted as unskilled, scared little mouse and he was a nuisance to everyone, like dwarves had to carry him on their backs most of the time and protect him but Gandalf was the one always sticking up for him until he proved himself ofc, and also the dwarves looked to Gandalf for leadership instead of Thorin. In the book Azog is merely mentioned so the company is being chased by goblins on wargs after they kill their goblin king (I guess they kinda messed the chronological order of events in the movies but also added extra plot), and after the eagles save them, the lord of the eagles talks to gandalf and tells him that "they wont take them anywhere near where men lived because the men would shoot at them with their bows thinking they are after their sheep" so thats why they left them where they did. In the book the dwarves arent at all hostile in Rivendell, but also the whole scene with Galadriel, Saruman etc doesnt happen in the book (but Gandalf speech of "he gives me courage always gets me :')) oh and Gollum did know that the ring gives invis, he used it to hunt goblins for food in that cave basically and remain unseen by other goblins. There are a lot more details but overall I think The Hobbit trilogy gets a lot of hate from lotr fans (including me) because Peter Jackson had large shoes to fill, and as mentioned, excess use of CGI and some corny dialogue, but he did the best he could with the amount of material and time limit that he had and watching this at face value, its a good watch and I cant imagine anyone doing it better than Peter Jackson the goat Sorry for long post, loved the reaction :D

jrnoodles

Thank you Geks+ for this reaction :)

I think the Hobbit gets too much hate, I genuinely enjoy these movies a lot

TheSauceGuy

If I'm not mistaken, the terms "orc" and "goblin" are almost entirely interchangeable in the books. For the Hobbit films, I'm unsure if they're a separate species or just a subspecies that adapted to living in the mountains.

TheSauceGuy

When you watch The Hobbit films, I feel like you have to assume it's Bilbo exaggerating the story to an insane degree at times lol. The Lord of the Rings films have plenty of unbelievable moments as well though, so it is kind of part of the films to a degree imo.

TheSauceGuy

I love the wargs, but man do they just run straight into the blades lol. I guess the orcs aren't much better haha.

TheSauceGuy

That's a good point Cannon, why are there no archers shooting them in the trees lol? Probably because movie.

Brady

I neeeeed Chernobyl ep 5

Natsu1401

Twilight series 😈

Jeremy

Addy is a baddy

Safaricat

okay so....this movie is more fantasy and whimsical because we're also focused on Dwarves and Elves. LOTR is more focused on man, and they don't have the same stats. Sure it was about the Hobbits as well but if you recall they were very sturdy (sans Frodo). LOTR takes place at a time when a lot of the magic is gone or are leaving. The elves were giving up on the continent. Also the beginning scenes with Elijah Wood and old Bilbo were filmed when they did LOTR if i remember correctly.

Cannon 😂 “I’m the most excited!”

SirCatelot

Cannon, since your a fan of the Hobbit you should watch the Production diary's. They are brilliant and fun watch. And made me appreciate these movies more.

Ryan Ry

“Is there Dragons in The Hobbit?”… ten seconds later… A big dragon appears. Same dragon that’s in all the promotion posters and probably the big screen prior to the movie starting. Lord of the Sus @Brig strikes again. Never fails. Keep it up dude. 👍

The craziest thing that came from these movies is that at one point during filming of THE HOBBIT, Sir Ian McKellen broke down crying due to the constant greenscreen stating, "This is not why I became an actor." IMO, pure cash grab, not even doing anything special, or pushing the needle forward. Everything is green screen heavy and looks fake. There are some fun parts when you shut your brain off, but one movie would've been enough, or even better a tv show. Not gonna clown on ppl who like it, as there are fun parts here and there. And most important part of the movie is that you enjoy your time with it. edit: added imo at the beginning, as I do not speak for all the ppl.

Henrik Åström

If you want to watch a european cult classic that is loved by many, try Todo sobre mi madre (All about my mother) by spanish director Pedro Almodovar.
