I get the criticism, I felt the same way! But I would withhold serious judgement UNTIL you get to the grand line. This is sort of a “prequel” to the show.

Weird how they hate on Naruto for minor inconsistencies, like when a fight occurs and others aren't stepping in as much, but with One Piece, where that is the least inconsistent thing out of bunch the other stuff ( like Luffy being 2 episodes under water, Sanji having his organs smashed and being under water for too long...), they don't even mention it 😂😬

Brig W take. The peaks of one piece that ppl hype about are mostly non fight scenes (at least for early hundreds of episodes imo), which is different from some other shounen series that most peaks are fights especially new Gen. You may need to lower your expectations for fight episodes.

I’m pretty sure everyone had the same reaction to the sanji fight underwater… The oxygen stuff and organs getting damaged is crazy but in the same way zoro was able to take a full strike from the worlds strongest swordsman, it can be explained as both of them just being insanely durable and having insane willpower

Just wanted to say that in GoT people call it "Wester-OSS" rather than "Wester-OASSE" because unlike you, most of the actors are English/European and not American. n.b. this is also why the American Peter Dinklage is often an exception and uses the American pronunciation, the same way he often pronounces Sansa's name differently to most other characters.

Usopp's voice actor is actually pretty legendary with many roles but from shows youve seen, you guys probably know him best as L from Death note, and also Feitan from HxH. Definitely shows his range with Usopp though xD

Just like you guys said the normal people there are literally surprised to see him still alive so clearly there is an awareness that this would kill a normal person. There's a reason those people are all just standing around with their mouths open in shock at literally everything that's happening. In terms of the breath, that entire situation lasted less than 30 seconds if even that long. Anime makes it seem like he's down there losing his breath for a long time, but just remember that Gen ( the old dude ) only came up for air once and that was after all that. I would assume Sanji could hold his breath many times longer than Gen if he wasn't getting the air knocked out of him. I'm only pointing out things that should be clear based off the story so far, but just as you know this show is 1100 episodes and it tends to all make sense in the end. Even the small things you think are just bad writing.

A good way to understand how the power levels work in OP is to think of it this way (this isn't spoilers so dw) Basically in the world of OP there are two types of human beings. Normal people, and people who are "strong." Luffy, Zoro and Sanji are "strong" they have super human physical capabilities with no obvious explanation why. Usopp and Nami are normal they might be more durable than a regular human at times for plot reasons but they cant do what luffy zoro and sanji can and they'll never be able to.

My advice on trying to power scale characters in One Piece is this. You don't. Its almost all nonsense. Oda doesn't stick to strict rules in his verse.

Gon got his hand blown off by Genthru, did he died from shock and blood-loss? Sasuke and Naruto got hit from how many needles thrown by Haku, did Sasuke died from that? How many times has Eren or Goku ‘died?’ Like three times each? For a country that survived two nuclear blasts, can you really critique the manga creators for creating shonen stories that have main characters survive from certain death?

Totally legitimate criticism, Cannon. The abuse the characters endure is unbelievable (especially Ussop lol), but it’s something that never changes. Oda takes A LOT of motifs from old school western cartoons. You just gotta adjust your mindset when watching, otherwise it can definitely take you out of it.

As much as I love OP, the Sanji fight criticism is completely fair. I remember feeling the same way on my first watch (and still do). The fights are the weakest part but they will get better eventually
