I cant sleep so this is good

peachy af

LOL Mckay and Brig exchanging eye contact when lev indirectly called his sister hot 😭

idk

In tokyo because the prefecture is so huge, Japan lets them bring 2 teams to nationals unlike miyagi which lets them bring 1. Also because tokyo is hosting nationals they get to bring 1 more team. So nekoma lost to fukurodani. Fukurodani and itachiyama qualified for nationals, but because of the extra spot, nekoma had to play against nohebi

@35:47 McKay always has the funniest faces bruh

vally

Great thing to wake up to!

ginabella

NOW YOU KNOW what happened with the other teams lol since y’all kept asking. Tokyo gets 3 reps in the Nationals bc they are such a large prefecture, so one loss doesn’t end your tourney, like it does in Miyagi. Also, hope you guys finally understand that the Inter High tourney and Spring Tourney are two separate tournaments. That’s why we played the same teams over again and Shiratorizawa didn’t make it to Nationals this time, Karasuno did.

m m

Jack explaining his new blocking technique for Lev😂😂😂

PugProtector

So, I played golf in high school and university and had a back injury during my last year of playing in college. I couldn't finish with my full ability, so seeing Yaku talk about getting injured at such an important moment in his final year of high school really hit me hard and brought back all those emotional memories.

Niko

dont blame you guys at all for not understanding why Nekoma can still go to nationals after losing, the show expects the viewer to understand the japanese sports scene which can be kinda difficult, on my first watch through i was also confused. but since tokyo is a huge prefecture (and the host city of nationals) they send 3 representatives! Both teams in the finals are auto qualified (Fukurodani beat Nekoma, and Itachiyama beat Nohebi, so they both go to nationals. Fukurodani and Itachiyama then play for seeding which you see at the end of the episode) and then the Nekoma vs Nohebi match was for 3rd place, aka the last spot for the 3 tokyo representitives!

Taylor Blackwell

Tokyo is a bigger Prefecture so they get two slots at Nationals. Miyagi only gets one as they’re a smaller prefecture.

botanbutton

Well, technically, Yaku said Lev's sister is as beautiful (bijin = beautiful person) as ever but translator used hot for some reason (guess to make them sound more like high schoolers). Lev is just proud that his sister is beautiful.

Truls789

Tokyo only get 2 representatives normally, but since the spring tournament takes place in tokyo this year they get an extra spot

kkcat

Thank you for checking in with the boys :DD

Joie Dianzon 🇵🇭

Carter = Kuroo. I originally thought Daichi would fit him but Kuroo has a tighter bond with Tsukki. Brig = Ushiwaka. I think he's the closest fit in terms of appearance. Cannon = Tsukki. But sometimes, I think he's also a Kageyama. I don't know why. Jack = Hoshiumi, definitely. McKay = Tanaka, because of his appearance. But I would imagine, Kenma applies to him too. He's difficult to read sometimes. Sorry, boys. Oikawa is a different breed. 😆

Alex

I didn't realise that Brig didn't know Neko meant cat in Japanese yet. There's a lot of that with the haikyuu teams. Nekoma (Neko = cat), Karasuno (Karasu = crow), Fukurodani (fukurou = owl), Nohebi (hebi = snake) etc. That's actually the reason for the name of these ova episodes. Land vs Air = Cats vs Owls.

jay

“they should all stick their feet out” 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

jay

“you looked really cool being an effing bully out there, james potter” IM WEAKKKK

Alex

The simplest way I can explain how the Tokyo team's qualifiers work is this. Tokyo is a WAY bigger prefecture so they have two representatives instead of one. Tokyo is also the location of the upcoming nationals so they receive one extra representative making it a total of three. Fukurodani and Itachiyama made it to the finals of qualifiers so they automatically take up two slots. That left Nekoma and Nohebi to compete for the final third spot. Therefore, Itachiyama, Fukurodani, and Nekoma have all made it to nationals. hope that helps :)

mariacake

Yeah beautiful is a more accurate translation than hot. Plus there are high schoolers that are polite so I wish the translator used beautiful instead 🥺

M1GZ

Hate to be that guy and usually I don't mind people being confused about how many spots there are available in this ova since they don’t explain it very well but I’ve seen multiple multiple comments since the start of s2 saying “HEY BTW Tokyo has more spots available than Miyagi please keep that in mind” seems like they are lost every episode and always asking questions but NEVER really bother reading any answers. Sorry but at this point its fully on yall.

Secretly

In tokyo top 3 go to Nationals. 1 because they are the host of the tournament, and 2 for the population size of the prefecture. Certain other prefectures get 2 representatives too.

Nico

Suguru Daishou, my snake fiend, they can never make me hate you!!

jessiefungirl

"If they lose they can't win nationals" that end cut had no business making me laugh like it did

lian

How do you guys think this Nekoma team would do against Shiratorizawa 🤔 Shiratorizawas offense is what makes them so good but Nekoma has amazing defense so it might be a hard matchup

jessiefungirl

Jack did figure out the bracket mid watch tho

jessiefungirl

I get Carter about caring a bit less about Nekoma vs Nohebi. I think we all just want to see the team we care about most(or are most familiar with)... Extra points if they play against a known rival.

jessiefungirl

I see them losing bc Nekoma's offense may be weaker than the opposing defense. Not sure how soon they would catch on to the left-handed ball, but now I really wanna see Kuroo block Ushijima.

jessiefungirl

Can confirm: I am only interested after manipulating, cheating, and bullying ensues /j

M1GZ

Gotta give Jack credit for that, when he was whispering to cannon im like he’s cooking

lian

Yea I definitely think Shiratorizawa would win. Kenma would probably be cooked omg his stamina wouldn't last with all the moving around from difficult receives 😭 they might have a smallll chance in a 3 set match

Rosemary💮

Absolutely horrid character, unfortunately that's the appeal for me too 🤦

gyu

bokuto my 🐐

Connor O'Hara

Tokyo gets extra slots in the nationals because there's so many teams. So yes, the bracket is double elimination.

Clover

ofc its miyaura 😌 love that man and the spin of his serves

Clover

Really felt what Carter said about him not being emotionally invested in the matches for these two eps cause honestly, same. I love Nekoma and don’t get me wrong, I would LOVE to see the battle of the garbage dump match so obviously I was rooting for Nekoma. I don’t particularly have anyone I’m emotionally attached to in Nekoma though, I really like the characters but I guess it’s also cause we don’t have a lot of screen time and backstories of them sadly 😔 If I were to pick a fav tho, it might be Kenma or Fukunaga cause they’re such a mood XD My favourite team after Karasuno is yet to come, I’m so excited 🦊

Clover

“The Way of the Ace” 🐐

Clover

6:13 damn that referee traveling all over japan to get that bread, just finished the karasuno vs shiratorizawa match and now he’s in tokyo, man’s on that GRIND

hugoruix

all the references to animals on the show come from the school names. Neko-ma is cat, fukuro-dani owl, karasu-no crow etc...

kai

we love you bokuto and akaashi

Albin Limani

Tokyo just has 3 slots for nationals, as they are a way bigger region and also the hosts, compared to Miyagi(Karasuno's region) which only has 1 slot. So the first 2 slots were Itachiyama and Fukurodani, so Nekoma played Nohebi for the 3rd slot.

vally

I also never seen reactors being sooo confused about the tournament, idk why they don’t get it that there are two separate tournaments 😆😆

Nash
>>156550056

Me too like I love Nekoma but if I had to choose a team aside from Karasuno then it’ll be either Seijoh or 🦊

Miitei

To put it simple, Tokyo will have 3 representatives at Nationals. These 4 teams made it to semi-finals, first, second and third place will made it. Also is Land vs Air because Nekoma is represented by a cat and Fukurodani is represented by owls. The subtitles never made that clear but a few teams have animal names in it Karasu=crow (Karasuno) Neko=cat (Nekoma) Fukuro=owl (Fukurodani) Hebi=snake (Nohebi) And some others that show up later

Adam Parts

Would like to say that in sports taking advantage of everything you can is natural. You don't have to love it but I think its understandable. Also, the message was Mika got back with Suguru because she saw how hard he tries and as long as you give something your all then things could work out for you in other ways. Depends on your perspective. As per the Nekoma thing, I'm sure we all were less invested in this but I think because of the garbage dump there is more incentive from the fans to watch them not lose.

Izaya

Can yall point a single moment where Nohebi cheated? Cause im having a incredible hard time trying to find it.

Jude

Did you miss the part where they couldn't receive the ball so instead they block the line of sight from the ref and call it out? You can say that it's all fair game in a competition but it was so blatant even the bystanders could tell. From a technical standpoint they weren't even a horrible team they had some pretty decent players but just played in a scummy way. You could argue that blocking line of sight isn't cheating but regardless of if you consider it cheating or not they played in a scummy way. Daishou apologizing for hitting Tora, Sam owning up to hitting the net and you could tell they weren't doing that to be sportsmanlike. They did all that to curry favour with the refs to score the more "ambiguous" points.

Clover

yalls convo too funny XD

Clover

i have a feeling the comments section gonna go crazy when 🦊 finally appears

Jude

Kageyama seemed pretty tired near the end of the match so I doubt Kenma's stamina could last. I feel like Yaku the goat could progressively keep up with Ushijima like Noya did and they could probably pull off a similar blocking strategy that Karasuno did since Tuski basically learned a lot from Kuroo. However, I feel like one major deciding factor is that Nekoma doesn't have the same offensive power as Karasuno that does so many synchronized attacks. With how powerful Ushijima is I doubt Nekoma could just keep playing floor defense to tire out Ushijima without getting exhausted themselves.

kai

yaku is so cool and goated

Clover

fr how dare you slyly try to take him for yourself 😤

greyxwaren

exactly as jude pointed out plus there were more moments in the manga that put this team in a worst light than the ova but it was cut out and the ova already portrays exactly what type of team they are. izaya you always have something to say, huh? cause no way you’re out here defending freaking nohebi, the team the fandom unanimously agrees to be the worst team in all of haikyuu

Nash

*Kuroo and Yaku arguing 99% of the time* meanwhile Kai in the middle: “they ask me how you are, and you just have to say that you’re fine, when you’re not really fine” love the dynamics between these 3 though XD im fr Kai in my trio friendship

Clover

Neko 🐈

I was coming here to comment about how the Japanese words for each mascot are built into the names of the teams. Furudate put so much thought into teams and characters. 🔥 Love him.

Rosa

Also from the teams weve already met Shiratorizawa with shiratori meaning swan or just white bird (kanji)

Neko 🐈

Sure, you can argue that a player should take advantage of anything they can during a game, but there are rules for a reason. The point of sports is to compete with an agreed upon set of rules and see who comes out on top. Doesn't it defeat the purpose of a game if one team is playing by different rules than another? Rather than the outcome being based on a player's ability or a team's plays/strategy, it dissolves into how much a team can 'get away with'. It changes the spirit and goal of the game entirely.

Jenny D

Glad you guys watched this. I love Nekoma and it was cool seeming them Duke it out with Fukoridani. Bokuto is actually in the top 5 aces. It was mentioned in season 2 during the training camp. He used to be in the Top 3. Sakusa, Kiryu, and Ushijima are the top 3. I also hated Noehbi because of the cheating. The antagonizing is annoying, but like Brig mentioned a lot of players trash talk. I'm excited for the next batch!

Neko 🐈

Need some love for Kenma in these comments! He's my #1 - always playing on a different level. Bonus points for his constant chill and for avoiding any unnecessary extra work. Let those other hustlers burn themselves out, he's out here giving instruction and reaping benefits.

peachy af

Agreed! I enjoy the OVAs still but i also wasn't emotionally invested + i kind expected nekoma and fukurodani to make it to nationals anywaya so there weren't TOO many stakes for me. I love many characters in nekoma and few in fukurodani but none of them are my favs!

peachy af

Jack and someone else (i think brig) fully said in s3 they were still confused why shiratorizawa had to face karasuno even tho they won nationals even though we explained it various times and said that we didn't explain some parts well enough 😭😭 like there's really nothing else we can do at this point

bokkun

"is this gonna be the husband?" YOU GUYS ARE SO RIGHT BOKUTO IS HEREEEE 🥳🫶🫶🫶

Miitei

It's ok to not like Nohebi lol, they are a team I don't even remember they exist until we get to this point in the story lol The fact that this match goes even worst in the manga and the OVA cut off a lot of the awful plays they did makes me mad lol they are just very scummy, they are not bad but for some reason have this awful "play style". The game itself is not bad, it's very psychological. I don't think is bad per se that Nohebi tries to takes down the other players with negative comments, actually Yamamoto and Lev go through it in the match and here it was almost all of it cut off, but when they started blocking vision for the referee, nope, there is no respect for the team, and here in the OVA is done once, in the manga they do this a lot 🙄

emmy

you know i had to put on my nekoma hoodie for these episodes

Adam Parts

This is where you are pushing ideals. Every sport when it comes to fine margins or a perceived sense of weakness mixed with lofty ambitions has a form of opponents influencing decisions within it. Rule breaking as you described it never actually happened here. They made a call and the ref made a decision with how limited his view was - its not against the rules to block the refs sight in a reasonable attempt to make the play I'm not saying they dont deserve some animosity towards their actions but trying to ridicule everything and turning a blind eye to the fact that Nohebi has decent players in their team and the captain worked hard and got his girl back is funny to me.

Neko 🐈

There's no ideal pushing here. Just a statement that sports have rules for a reason. No one has denied the skill of the players on Nohebi, though it can be said that influencing the officials is a way of breaking rules. If they were to bribe officials to influence them, is that cheating? I was really speaking towards the difference between taking advantage of opportunities (say, serving the ball to a weak receiver) vs trying to get around the rules of a game (intentionally blocking view of an in/out). It's certainly a thing that happens in sports, but doing so changes a fundamental aspect of the game itself. You agree that it's fair for viewers to have some resentment towards Nohebi (though I don't really - I liked the added drama for entertainments sake), and I agree with you that there's no issue with the girlfriend coming back to him. She says she was annoyed that he was spending so much time on his club, but then she sees him play and how seriously he takes it and respects him for it. It's a good arc imo.

mariacake

Will there be uploads tomorrow? It’s Thanksgiving so I wonder if they will take a break..

Adam Parts

"It can be said that influencing the officials is a way of breaking rules" - however that very notion on its own and especially during the game, factually, is not. No rule in volleyball states that it is in this context. You can yell at the ref that a blocker touched the net even when its obvious that they didn't or in this case call an out even when it wasn't. Neither breaks the rules and the ref makes the choice in the end. I'd rather hear the argument that the officials need better officiating standards than to simply call Nohebi cheats for blocking one of the line judges view who should be trained on reading ball trajectories better Its the severity of your influences say like you mentioned i.e. bribing the officials that are part of the rulebook of the game that can be determined as breaking the rules. This sort of behaviour is prevalent in all sports hence why Furudate included it

Miitei

I was wondering the same thing too. I guess we won't get updates until after their holidays maybe, which is understandable tbh.

bebe

are u okay in ur life bro? i feel like u need help

YANXI

"Jack of all trades but master of none" SENT ME!!! 😂 I laugh every time.

Jar Jar

Bokuto is top 4, Ushijima is top 3, Sakusa is top 2 and kiryu No.1 although he almost never gets highlighted, but you do see snippets of him in s4.

Neko 🐈

Ah, rules lawyering then. Sure you're right that there is no specific rule against influencing officials during a match. This is why there was no consequence for Nohebi during the game. You've picked on imperfect wording to skirt around the question of why a lot of folks are resentful of Nohebi's tactics. If it's understandable behavior simply for the sake of using every advantage, where do you draw a line? Is there no limit as long as it is not written explicitly within the rules of the game? This is why people are given awards for "sportsmanship" or why someone might be called a "dirty player", there are more than just written rules in sports. There is an expectation of fair play during a match. So my question is still the same. If every team played with the intent to beat the system, doesn't it defeat the purpose of the game entirely?

Cryptcat

Bokuto is top 5, it isn't stated if he is 4 or 5. The top 3 also does not get a specific ranking.

Heretic Rawdog

“It’s Sakusa Jack not Sakoosa” 😂😂

Moon

LMFAO Y'all don't sound dumb HAHAHAH Not to me anyway. Well... Not yet, and I hope it'll stay that way JHWBHJWB Basically, they don't explain this explicitly in the OVAs, but the four teams that made it to the final part of the preliminary rounds for the Spring Tournament are competing against one another for the three slots that their prefecture has to attend nationals. Normally, the Tokyo prefecture gets to have 2 teams qualify for nationals because the area is so big that sending only 1 team would be too few for the sheer number of schools they have competing to represent Tokyo, but this year, since nationals are being hosted in the city of Tokyo, the Tokyo prefecture gets to have a third team qualify for nationals as they're the hosts (special privilege of being a host of the nationals, I don't believe there's a specific reason behind it!).

Albin Limani

It is never stated how they are actually ranked. Ushijima, Kiryuu and Sakusa are top 3, but the specific ranking is never said. From what we see though, Ushijima is easily number 1, because we just do not see enough of the others.

Pavlo

Who said whats up brother😭😭😭😭

Rayanh Shequinah Nansha

Well, the number one reason to watch this is because it's canon; it all happened in the manga,. It's just that the anime made a movie out of it. 'm personally glad because I was so upset when I thought they wouldn't show the feats and other shennanigans of my GOAT Bokuto in the anime. Found out they'd animated it into a separate movie after I'd finished watching season 3

vally

Akaashi said „so you didn’t make it in top3 this year“ which indicates that Bokuto is at place 4

Ghedo

Ok, it seems yall are still confused about the whole Spiker ranking. They said Ushijima is top 3 in the country, with him are Sakusa from Itachiyama and Kiryu from the region of Kyushu. Bokuto is slightly out of the top 3 so most likely top 4 of the country Also there are 3 representative teams from Tokyo, because it is in the most populated region in Japan there are 2 Teams to qualify, both teams that reached the finale of the qualifier, so Itachiyama (which also won the qualifier and gets a higher seeding) and Fukurodani. But also the region that hosts the national tournament, gets an extra slot, so 3 teams this year out of Tokyo can qualify and the 3rd slot is Nekoma

Avery Nordbye

After watching this show 100 times it's good to finally understand why three teams made it. 2 made sense to me but couldn't figure out why 3 was allowed, thank you!

Adam Parts

Haha rules lawyering when you said they broke the rules? Look, I already said I understood the resentment so I can't really be skirting around anything. The reason why people are resentful isn't the original point I was making.

smif
