also a little clarification about the title of episode 16 what tall girl said, the episode focuses on tanaka's simple mindedness and how straightforward he is. tall girl saying she "got heartbroken" was referring to tanaka turning her down saying he like someone else. she meant that tanaka is so simple his words mean exactly how they sound with no hidden meaning behind them so there's no reason to hang to any hope that he might reciprocate her feelings later on

the bluray version fixed the obvious hideous shots so they don't stick out like a sore thumb, the base episode is already lower in quality compared to the rest of the season but i'd say it did its job if the geks didn't notice the dip in quality.

Just for some clarification on the whole Kanoka situation (no spoilers) , when she says 'Tanaka has always been so straightforward and honest' it means he would never fake his feelings just because he has a chance with someone. He was described in ep16 as 'simple and devoted' so once he sets his mind to something, whether it's volleyball or Shimizu he'll devote himself to it lol. Hence why she says 'i really did just had my heart broken' because Tanaka was very honest about the fact that he likes another girl, it wasn't a misunderstanding (sorry for the yap lol)

Kanoka my girl having her heart broken and the guys saying she will get her chance lol But seriously, it's because the whole episode was about Tanaka not getting discouraged and him being persistent and very true to his feelings. She just understood that what Tanaka said that night that he already like another girl means he is set for said girl and he will keep trying with her, the same way he just kept trying during the match. Also!! There is a part in the Manga that wasn't animated, when Yamaguchi was going to serve and he couldn't see the "Exit" sign, Shimada realized this and he goes running all the way to the other side of the gym to hold that bag for Tadashi ❤️ Good thing that the animation from ep15 is the worst we get during the season and all the rest of the episodes are just normal, cuz even the Blue ray is horrible lol

More so than anything, it's the art. The character models are off because they outsourced a lot of the moments with still frames. It was laughable but considering the timeframe, it's understandable and I'm glad we got it. The animation is fine for the most part, and ep15 only suffered a little in that regard.

Ngl for me it's very noticeable so it took me quite a while to start s4. I'm not bothered with the change of art style, but the animations' fluidity and the anatomy of some characters are wonky. But I understand that they worked on this during the pandemic, though I wouldn't mind waiting a bit more if it would give the animators more time given the situation.

Tanaka's cross shot was great! Tanaka is such a great character. He can be extra at times, but all in all he's such a good teammate and friend. I loved his back story with his friend. I think they would make a cute couple. I'm not sure why he's so obsessed with Kiyoko. She just ignores him and doesn't give him any indication she's interested. I get wanting what he can't have, but at some point you have to let go. Daichi was also getting some good spikes in. I'm excited for the next batch on Thursday!

I ALWAYS tear up and cry at Tanaka’s whole internal dialogue before his cross spike. Cause really, its super real and not just in sports but in any other hobby. At first you start it for fun, and when you see other people doing it much better, excelling at it even though they started it the same time as you and even going beyond makes you feel like you’re really nothing but average. It really makes you think about whether you should even continue it and gets you spiralling into self-doubt 😭 Tanaka’s mentality is something that not everyone has, me inclusive. I found myself running away from something I initially enjoyed because I saw myself gradually lose passion in it as I kept comparing myself to the actual geniuses amongst my peers 🥲 I’m glad that I managed to relight the love I had for that said hobby, although it took around 2 years haha. But srsly, Tanaka’s mental strength is on god level, and that’s why he’s my top 3 haikyuu characters

I noticed you guys keep mentioning the translations being weird, but I think it's because they're trying to show through the improper English translations that some people on the other team speak with an accent. Different parts of Japan have their own regional accents, so it would be our equivalent of a southern accent.

I really like the art style in 1-3 so it changing all of a sudden wasn’t my favorite. It just wasn’t as clean/fluid to me and some of the art style/character designs look frumpy and not proportioned well. Idk I can spot pretty small differences in details so it bothered me. I kind of got used to it but I still cringe at times

This is Tanaka's moment. From falling behind and being extra lame (according to him), he still never gives up. If I am tanaka, i will surely want to cry because I feel like everything I did is wrong. His determination is on point. Kudos also to our Hinata for making Tanaka more confident. That small talk at the end is super important for Tanaka's sanity. Plus, Hinata learning that offense is not ALWAYS the solution shows his maturity. I love them bothhhh! 🥹

@greyxwaren is right, the blue ray version improves some shots like Daichi's dive where his head turns 180 and that one shot of Tsuki where he's standing next to Hinata looking weird af. But since the overall quality of the episode is pretty bad it wont look that different in the blu-ray version unless they completely redo the animation.

The Tanaka episode is one of my fav (if not my favourite) episode in the entire show. I often go back and rewatch it when I feel dejected (or just need a good cry). The message it portrays is so relatable and it really hits me in the feels when I see a happy, motivational, lovable guy like Tanaka take a beating and get depressed only for him to stand back up and prove himself 😭😭😭🩵

@14:14 Cannon, Tsuki only does that to people he's very comfortable with which is Hinata. It's always Hinata cause it's fun to see his reaction. Especially here when Tsuki shows he knew what the simple minded high spirited Hinata was thinking lol This scene is a comedic one. This moment somehow reminds me of him and Hinata & Kageyama on their first night in Tokyo, he had to be their "handler" assigned by Ennoshita so they wouldn't go too far off. I love Tsukki & Hinata lol They're like older and younger siblings where the older brother likes to rile up the younger brother.

I feel like Tanaka showed a lot of emotional maturity in turning down Kanoka. Treating someone who likes you as a second choice whilst knowing she isn't who you really want to be with would be unfair and Tanaka isn't that kinda fella. He also said it himself... "as long as I keep trying until I can do it, I can actually do it!". Our boy doesn't give up in volleyball or in love (even if he doesn't have a chance XD). Gotta respect the dedication.

I had a pretty bad day but damn the episode with Tanaka gave me some strength. He is such an awesome person, I wish I could have just a quarter of his mental strength. Even tho the quality of the animation is shit in the game it’s one of my favourites.
