Lynx

No way… Been waiting on this since you mentioned watching it in a OPM video however long ago🔥

Enma

Interesting choice for the introduction to the Dragon Ball universe, makes sense since it’s the one of the most recent movies, but it’s like skipping all of Naruto and watching the Boruto movie lol Hopefully we get the og series one day.

Zipzzty

They gotta watch the series one Day Trust

Zipzzty

It’s over

Ryan

Wrath of dragon or fusion reborn is a must need

Arallius

NOOO WAYYY LETS GOOOO

Romeo

I recommend Gantz:O for the next movie, no context needed for it, the animation and fights are amazing.

PEAK ANIMATION

Miitei

😭😭😭 This is lit my first ever anime. I remember little 6 yo me sitting in the sofa with my dad every afternoon to watch this ❤️ You guys need to experience Dragon Ball to its fullness. The father of Shonen, we're a lot of things we see or take for granted now were born.

Michael

Joined Patreon at the perfect time first mob now dbz 🥲

Miitei

Now I'll shut up and watch the video lol

Ninjinzo

this is a fucking surprise and im so down for this

JojoJack

You guys will never watch OG Dragonball. You’ll probably just watch DBZ Kai.

Zipzzty

Dbs more popular

Zipzzty

Welcome and bro having the time of his life fr

Jack

I will make us watch DBZ Kai first, no jumping to super, gotta start with the OG

Sterling

YOOOOOOOOOOOO. Literally watched all the movies recently for the Dragon Ball sparkling zero release. I'm so glad we're on this journey now 🥰

victoria t

Are you guys watch db now??

Ninjinzo

to start it's best to do dragon ball z kai for the boys. I know most people say the original dragon ball z. But nah for these ones for pacing they would appreciate kai more.

victoria t

Can’t start DBZ without DB

Jack

We figured with the beginning of the movie really delving into the origin it would help, plus most of the second half is just fighting so they didn’t need to know that much

Umut

We need a dbz broly movie reaction

Ayoodude

DBZ reaction would go craaaazy

G

Nooo

G

They would not get the core characters the abilities and where they come from and a lot of people’s origins are in the og dragon ball series. I know it’s a drag, but it’s worth it

Zipzzty

G Cooking

Hero3life

Btw, y'all should watch the OG broly movie when you get a chance. It's so worth it

James

I watched Dragon Ball Z in the 90s… good times

Zipzzty

Goat jack good job

jessiefungirl

nearly choked sheesh can y'all chill with these drops my neck can't handle all the whiplash

Henderson C

Probably the most surprising post I've seen on this channel, and I'm completely for it.

Amare D.

start with dragon ball

JojoJack

Kai isn’t OG. I’m talking about the 154-episode Dragon Ball, that’s OG. And there’s the 291-episode Dragonball Z, that’s also OG.

Chris

Watch Dbz series and then Dragan ball super 🙏

victoria t

Frieza wanting the balls to be taller is a callback to an original DB villain who wanted them to be taller

jessiefungirl

is this my sign to start taking the db verse more seriously

victoria t

Kai is closer to the original manga than regular DBZ, plus the dubbing is much better

victoria t

*start with OG dragon ball. The beginning of DBZ won’t make any sense without watching DB

A.G

Og Dragon ball and Z > Naruto

N P

It looks like Eren is bench-pressing the table down there

jessiefungirl

hmmm where do i start (seen quite a bit of dbz kai years ago and know most characters)

Luffers

Thank god they are watching the Dub. I can't do girl voice Goku.

KrispyKenny

for me og dragonball was the best place to start, you'll feel like you're just watching a backstory if you do it after watching Z imo. also the Z fights hit that much harder cause you know where Goku came from. peak comedy too

Mitch

Zero chance lol.

Nashi

Tbh I have never rewatched Dragon Ball so I would definitely tag along. Maybe try Dragon Ball Kai? It's a condensed version iirc, good to be considered maybe

Adri

one of the kids i work with is named Broly after DBZ 🤣

McKay Carter

Should we watch more Dragon Ball?

Brady

Yeah drop Naruto and watch the whole Dragon Ball series instead

Zipzzty

I’m biased for Db man OG Anime

AV

No, it gets rid of the iconic soundtrack. OG better.

Zipzzty

If you still remember everything know the basis and what happens and the characters u can go ahead. Bur depends on what you know and remember

jblakk

Yall just doin sidequests at this point lol P.S that Vegeta conversation could be its own TikTok btw. Carters reaction is golden.

AV

I hate the modern art style of DB. OG art style is so iconic.

Ayoodude

Regular Dragon Ball Z 🔥🔥

Zipzzty

It’s Peak that’s what

victoria t

-This movie is also canon. Toriyama & Toyotaro did a manga page referring to this movie and Broly and co are in the manga afterwards -Super Saiyan God (Red) is the base version of SSG. The Blue version is the “super saiyan”/powered up version of the God form -out of all of the movies, only this one and Super Hero are canon

G

U guys need to watch the whole SERIES

Thomas

“We will fight for love and glory, we will live to tell the story!” — my childhood unlocked 😭❤️

G

START WITH OG DRAGON BALL

Thomas

When I was little my friend once colored his hair yellow with markers to try to go super saiyan 💀

victoria t

Yeah the beginning of Z makes no sense without watching the original series

G

DO NOT START WITH Z

Kite

time for the boys to learn some history about the old days 👴

Nicholas R. Gonzales

Who’s idea was it to start with this movie? This is literally the most recent piece of the anime, literally starting at the end of the story

Thomas

You’re right, the old style just has that timeless charm, new style lacks the heart. It almost looks fake/cheap in comparison

jblakk

Yall should start with DragonBall Z Kai if yall started. Its revamped dragonball z that attempts to fix some of the pacing issues. Im not sure if yall would like DBZ series in general so im not sure you should, but if you did DBZ Kai for sure.

Kite

WATCH IT IN SPANISH 🗣️🔥

KazumaSpitfire

I agree but they would have to go in with the mindset that it aired in the '80s so a lot of the comedy is quite dirty and not something you can air on tv today.

brog.

about the hair. pure blood saiyan's hair doesnt grow. thats why goku's hair is already like that in the pod. same with vegeta.

kai

BITCHSHEHNWNDNENENE

kai

omg i was not expecting this

kai

YALL BETTER WATCH DRAGONBALL Z

stupeyca

Hopefully they watch Kai version for better pacing and soundtrack.

brog.

dont know if this is mentioned later in the video or in the comments since its well known but saiyans are traditionally named after vegetables (planet vegeta) kakarot (carrot), broly (broccoli), raditz (radish), paragus (asparagus) etc.

ssj4rit

Loved Z growing up, so many good memories ☺️ Super sucks though.

Qhoa

W

victoria t

No it’s not, the pacing and dubbing are awful. Kai is truer to the original manga, the dubbing is better, and so is the soundtrack People only prefer Z bc of nostalgia, not bc it’s better

marco

Heinous how even the guys "familiar" with Dragon Ball skip over actual OG Dragon Ball as something necessary to watch. OG Dragon Ball is criminally underrated. After Emperor Pilaf, it quickly settles into what Dragon Ball would become known for (albeit with more comedy). The tournament arcs are great, Red Ribbon is fun, and by the time we get to King Piccolo it's basically the same tier as early DBZ. Just annoying as OG DB fan to have the story which is the basis for everything else ignored as unnecessary just because it isn't so popular.

Jack

I watched some of it, but I just couldn’t get into it. I do know a decent amount about it, but mostly from watching videos to explain it

Jack

I’m gunning for that, trust me! I love Z

LimitedTAG

if yall do decide to watch the dragball z series , PLZ WATCH WITH THE BRUCE FAULCONORS OST's. its so much better

manish manojan

broly's giant ape form would be similar level to ss4 from gt if that makes sense

BleachWhenPlzzz

Lmaoo no hesitation in that answer. Jack about to be cooked

victoria t

AGREED. It’s more storybuilding than constant action, but that isn’t a bad thing. And plus starting DBZ doesn’t even make sense without watching the OG series

victoria t

It could be watched on its own, BUT then the problem is if someone wants to start at the beginning they’ll complain that it’s “slow”

Niffol

FEELS sacrilege to see these newbies just jumping straight into broly lol.

Niffol

It is a good standalone dragonball movie. but dragonball is the start. mckay and jack are WRRROOONNNGGGGG DO not start with super lol.

victoria t

This one is actually canon tho

Juanca

FACTS! I have never been a fan of dubs, but Dragon ball in spanish is fire!!

Niffol

Vegeta is Cannons Goat cause he's a man of culture.

N P

We NEED more dragon ball movies after this, I'm voting for Battle of Gods next. I'd also love to see you guys react to the OG dragon ball, but I doubt that'd ever happen soon lol

JojoJack

If peak animation is all that matters to get them motivated to check out the series, you should’ve made them watch One Piece Stampede before they started the anime, Jackson.

BleachWhenPlzzz

- “Is this in dub?” Jack: “no it’s in English” LOL

Ashley K

I personally prefer DB subbed. The VA's are legendary.

notchrisramirez

Super Saiyan Blue = Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (Super Saiyan transformation on top of Super Saiyan God transformation)

Mitch

Broly movie is easily the best thing to come out of dragon ball super. Super as a series is soooooo mid tho and this is coming from a huge dragon ball fan. Honestly I don’t even like to consider Super canon. I believe it was created with the sole purpose to sell merchandise. If you’re going to watch anything it should be DBZ, og db is cool but it’s insanely dated. Even DBZ has some of the most abysmal pacing to ever exist but it’s still infinitely better than super. DBZ kai is basically an updated version of DBZ that fixes the pacing issues and updates some visuals BUT the soundtrack is significantly worse and the voice acting doesn’t compare at all to DBZ. Also Kai has a bunch of censorship problems as well. TLDR - Dragon ball Super is garbage and Kai is an inferior version of DBZ imo.

Bell60100

i lowkey want a dbz reaction-

N P

Seconded

Niffol

Saiyans have names resembling vegetables, freizas family all have names around "cold". There are some good named after fuel sources. pretty fun. naming conventions.

T.Yaseen

On a 3rd or maybe 4th re-watch this movie is just goated, Dragon ball Z episode 1 reaction when? Or even the OG Dragon Ball😁😁😁

notchrisramirez

when I was 8 years old Broly was my favorite Dragon Ball character and now 16 years later he is still my favorite Dragon Ball character. Its been a shame how little love he's gotten in this verse, but its optimistic to see him staying around since Super.

Niffol

forgot bardock was in here! THE ACTUAL GOAT!

AV

If you are going straight to DBZ, watch a recap of dragonball. And if you are going to watch Kai instead of OG DBZ, I hope we get reactions to the iconic moments in DBZ after you pass them in Kai. I couldn't get into Kai because of the mid soundtrack compared to Faulconer DBZ, so would still like to see your reactions to the epic moments with the GOATed soundtrack.

T.Yaseen

Yes, Dragon ball Z episode 1 gotta be next 😌

Ninjinzo

You're definitely right about the origins and starting from the start. I just think it'd be better for them to start just from Z as alot of reaction channels do the same. And honestly it's not a bad thing skipping OG dragon ball as Z is TOTALLY different in terms of story, to the point where you really don't need to watch the OG

Ninjinzo

i think since the boys do enjoy better paced things, kai is really the only way to go about it. I do agree on the score being changed the OG score was just too good to pass on

Ninjinzo

i think the black arc and beyond is really good for super especially the mui reveal literally breaking the internet

Vallll

LET’S GOOO

#1diavolofan

Loving these unexpected drops tbh 😳

G

You guys gotta watch og first jack 👀

E L

What is thisss

Ninjinzo

it basically cuts off all the filler and the dialogue is more faithful to the manga. Pacing is 100x more better

I’m Tired

Oh god. Is this for the new series for cinema gek or is this for studio

Ninjinzo

it's a good and bad thing imo. Bad it being they wouldn't understand anything and it's not in chronological order as it shouldn't be watched rn for the story. But good as it'll hook them in to know what they'll expect in the future as the show improves it's quality and animation. For being spoiled on transformations, they already knew that there's more to super saiyan but they don't know how it's achieved and it could still be sat down and watched like normal for those reveals.

Yusuf

sub is goated tho, Levi's VA

Ninjinzo

i think with og shows like one piece and naruto, they already know how slow pacing was for really old shows. They'll be ready for it plus kai is better paced in general so im sure it'll be fine for them overall

smif

DRAGON BALL DRAGON BALL DRAGON BALL DRAGON BALL WOOOOOOO

AV

This anime created a generation of gym rats 😂

Ninjinzo

i agree. OG dragon ball is also a completely different genre as it's more comedic until the last few arcs compared to Z and so on. Starting from Z is completely fine

Ninjinzo

i think for this movie, they brought back OG animation artist from back then as well as directors from the past. This movie definitely had the heart from back then.

Ninjinzo

yo idk if ur blind but they clearly just watched it lmao

Ninjinzo

YES dragon ball z Kai is the way !

Ninjinzo

kai is actually more faithful to the manga

D1dus

All I'm going to say is just watch DBZ Abridged if you are going to watch something. It starts kinda cringe but I'd still say you get a very good experience for like a fraction of the time spent watching the whole show

Miitei

I'm sorry, but starting with DBZ doesn't make sense. OG Dragon Ball IS the start of the story. I understand is different, and it's old, but the OG characters get introduced there and the story takes its form in the latest arcs, you cannot skip it and start with DBZ. And I see people recommending Kai instead of OG DBZ... If the soundtrack is a problem (which it is tbh) just don't watch the English dub, they were the ones that changed the og music.

Kite

Oscar winner Frieza back at it

notchrisramirez

I was absolutely FLOORED when Cannon guessed "Gogeta" OFF RIP. LMAO

jessiefungirl

as much as i like to stand for dubs, for saiki k sub is the way

Daniel

Y'all should definitely watch Dragon Ball! If you do, I highly suggest starting with the original series, especially if Jack, Brig, and McKay have only seen Z and Super.

ScreenWise

When the background got crazy at the end and there was that shatter of the frame, they broke space/time/and reality with their power wasnt just animators showing off but def that was part of it. then broke it again and snapped it back. Seeing this in theaters when it came out with the crowd cheering at moments was one of the best movie theater experiences ive had. Nostalgia plays a huge part on enjoying OG dragon ball/Z/and kai. But its still good if u just dont critique it expecting it to be a masterpiece. Its a power fantasy epic. Thats all. Has a special place in my heart though and always will.

marco

Yeah, and a lot of moments in DBZ and Super do not hit at all if you don't have the context of Dragon Ball. Piccolo/Kami coming together/Roshi fighting in the ToP just to name a few.

christopher

Cool and all but i hope you guys don't don't do dragon ball show is to old carried by nostalgia

Mitch

That’s funny cause I think the black arc is genuinely one of the worst things I’ve ever seen. The whole arc is a literal plot hole, Black as a character is so mid, his motivations are garbage and the ending is actually a 0/10. UI, beerus and jiren are easily the best things to come out of super tho.

Vallll

Kai should’ve kept the original soundtrack.

kuza

woah this is a suprise i love yall

kuza

such a good movie

marco

I don't blame ya, but I'd at least watch videos of the fights from the 3 main tournament arcs. Characters that are eternally slept on in Z and Super get moments to be real fighters.

Zach

Should start with OG Dragonball if you want the full story

Branflakes

Still waiting for a DBZ watch from y'all but the Broly movie is a good start though!

Joie Dianzon 🇵🇭

I feel so old now because my playmates grew up watching DragonBall. 😅

Alex Ramirez

There's plenty of different starting points people have chosen to watch Dragon Ball in. Most people started on Dragon Ball Z, but if you wanna start at the very beginning it would have to be OG Dragon Ball. There's not many who started on Super or GT but it's not that big of a crime to do... However, there is another option... Dragon Ball Z Abridged. DBZA is a different experience whether you've watched DBZ or haven't. It's a lot of fun, although the first 10 episodes are a bit rough when it comes to editing (I don't mind the jokes people will say "that didn't age well NERD EMOJI" towards)

traplikemaxxx

RANDOOOMMMM, i always wanted yall to react to DB but I never thought yall would actually do it. HUGE W

Sloth

OG Dragonball is my favorite. Dragonball Z and Super are great too, but the OG one hits different.

traplikemaxxx

1 minute in and Jack is already spreading misninformation LMAOOOO

Lydia

GEKS ARE COOKIN I literally cant keep up with all the drops now 😭

Ante

This whole reaction: "I owe you an apology Broly, I wasn't really familiar with your game" W.

victoria t

What drugs are you smoking that you’d recommend them starting at abridged?

victoria t

Nobody beats Sean schemmel as Goku

Ashley K

Masako Nozawa does.

Murasaki

I love Vegeta 🥰but I don’t think it’s a good idea to react DB series. Maybe watch on your own time.

Niffol

there were definitely spoilers even if they didn't realize it, (LIKE AN OP). But i wouldn't risk other movies before watching the show till the point of whatever movie. Dragonball is worth watching! Let them get the real experience.

Savannah

Oh Vegeta, my first love... LOL

Dale Cooper

This is wild to start with. So much character development and information is backing this film. I mean even DBZA would be a better start and that's a flanderization of the characters.

Yusuf

DBZA is so funny dude

G

The story starting from z just wouldn’t make sense , they wouldn’t understand the picolo thing , how he ended up with chi chi , where he learned all of his abilities ect

Yusuf

As much as i love db, I have to agree

lololol

was not expecting this XD

Liptrouski

Perfect movie for an intro to the Dragon Ball universe imo

Zipzzty

Vegeta the goat

Zipzzty

He’s the goat vegeta

corLeonis

I love this surprise

Vallll

Vegeta’s character development is crazy.

E L

This is good!

Ricardo Villarreal

Its common knowledge, the Dub 1st season of saiki is superior to the sub. Can’t say much for the 2nd season as they used different actors. So consistency is an issue i guess.

JeanJean

The japanese VAs in Z are some of the best I've heard in all of anime. The screams are amazing, the japanese are so good when they have to display an overwhelming amount of emotion.

Josh Viz

Bro Jack it's okay to say "idk the answer to that question" 😐 🙏

Frizen

Why was there even a conversation about where to start? You start with og Dragonball, this isn't the Fate franchise 🤣

JeanJean

Would be a little sad to start with DBZ in my opinion. OG Dragon Ball is amazing, innocent and so much fun. It has that Miyazaki innocent aspect, lots of good drama and epic fights. 0 nihilism. It's basically us seeing Goku grow up and the world of Dragon Ball through him. The show starts as an innocent adventure and becomes gradually more serious until it peaks in DBZ. You can't fully grasp the seriousness and scale of DBZ without witnessing the older more innocent times of early DB first. It has one arc that's a bit dragging but otherwise it's peak adventure and some of the best fights in the whole franchise are in there. This being said, I know you guys would probably watch it in english since that's often the default choice in the US, and I'm sure you're tired of the constant dub vs sub debates and that some of you have strong emotions in favor for the dub, so it's a complicated thing to argue about but still I'd like to play advocate for the sub. As someone who grew up with another dub too and who also was reluctant to give the sub a chance at first, I now consider the japanese voice acting in Dragon Ball to be one of the best I've heard in all of anime. The way the actors are able to pour so much emotion into the dialogues and especially the screams is absolutely unbelievable. Only the Masako Nozawa VA of Goku can feel weird at first in DBZ, I get that, seeing a buff man with a childlike voice, but that's just like how anime is in general, the initial weirdness makes place for enjoyment once you are open minded enough and give it a chance. And the music adds another layer on that, the Shunsuke Kikuchi soundtracks and the DB / DBZ openings are as iconic as the show themselves. They give the show a whole different dimension in comparison to the Faulconer score. Much more of a mix between spaghetti western, adventure and sci-fi. Not to diss the faulconer one, it has its merits but it changes the vibe of the show completely into something very different to the original material. One can only dream, but it would definitly be a lot of fun to see Brig, McKay and Jack react to the sub for the first time.

Henderson C

Ahkctually Super Hero is the most recent.

JeanJean

I agree but honestly Kai is also great. The only problem in Kai is the fact the official releases changed the score by reusing the Shunsuke Kikuchi ones after Yamamoto's OST was judged to be plagiarizing in some tracks. And the problem with this is that they just poorly placed these Shunsuke Kikuchi tracks, so it basically ruins absolutely everything. Instead of the meticulously well placed DBZ shunsuke Kikuchi ost, it basically feels randomly placed in Kai. If they're able to put their hands on the version with Yamamoto ost then Kai would be a more than decent pick, far better than the original english dub at least. Overall I do agree that the original japanese DBZ would be the best though. The performances and the soundtracks are phenomenal.

JeanJean

Without nostalgia, I think the english dub DBZ is really difficult to get into so I'd agree. Lots of mistranslations and really too corny for today. Kai is a good choice, with the Yamamoto ost of course.

Sun

hahahaha every girl watching dragon ball z had that phase

Kyle

the dub movies with broly are so good always great music too

Sun

this is the only anime for which I fully support the dub version. Can't stand Goku's voice in sub 😭

JeanJean

Kai has by far better english dub than DBZ though. I can understand that it is a matter of preference but it is objectively far more faithful to the original material. The music too is far more faithful to what Dragon Ball represents as a whole. DBZ dub would be too corny now for people that are discovering Dragon Ball, especially after having been through so much modern anime.

Lenny Wikberg V

The Broly From the Dragon Ball Z movies isn't cannon. This is the official Broly

kuza

just everything about this movie and fight is so damn peak

Hector

There is no wayyyyyyyyyy we getting the goat of anime

Espy

I think jack mentioned it lord PLEASE react to Super Hero as well it would be so peak.

kuza

nah jack it wasnt just showing off the animation they literally broke reality in their fight 🤣🤣

Mitchel

Only DBS Broly gets the Geks so hyped, the cops are called on them.

Mitchel

Im sure its mentioned somewhere else in the comments. But Super Saiyan Red also known as Super Saiyan God is basically going from mortal power to divine power. In DB universe the power called Ki. Super Saiyan Blue also known as Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan is basically going Super Saiyan with the divine Ki.

Mitchel

Hey Brig Cheelai can be as sussy as she wants.

Edwyn

If the Geks are going to watch the DBZ series, watch DBZ Kai which removes the filler and stays true to the manga.

Grady

ummmmmmmm for sure start with OG dragon ball

Mitchel

This is probably the best fight in all of anime history. Animation there is only a few things that live up to this level. One is Demon Slayer, and Fate series. And the other is One Piece.

kai

yea OG isn’t terrible but its something i wouldn’t rewatch

victoria t

I mean… they’re gonna expect everything to be hype now. Like one of them said it’s gonna feel super slow to them bc it starts off as an unserious adventure with gags and gradually gets more serious with fights

victoria t

What do you mean “phase” 🤣😅

victoria t

You can’t watch abridged without watching the original first. It totally changes your perception of the characters. It’s meant as a joke for people who have already seen the series, not a starting point

Liptrouski

There’s no way they will expect the hundreds of episode to be as hype as a high budget recent movie. Give them some credit

victoria t

More like new gen anime fans can’t handle older style anime, they want all action all the time

victoria t

Nah the soundtrack is great. Watched both DBZ & Kai, dbz is carried by nostalgia from fans growing up it’s not better . Newer soundtracks are hype

Mitch

I’m sorry you’re insane. You can literally look up compilations of Kai vs Dbz dub. Dbz literally blows it out the water it’s not even comparable. And falconer score is iconic you’re not gonna seriously say with a straight face that Kai’s score is better.

Hector

Yes piccolo we see the fit...

Hector

You start with OG then watch KAI, KAI it's the all overall improvement

Nivek

Crazy intro into the dragon ball Universe just remember you’re seeing the peak of modern db animation when watching the old stuff lmao

BadCo.

Please watch OG Dragonball, then DBZ, then Dragonball Super! This isn't some Star Wars situation where you can watch them in any order lol. There's a canonical timeline, and it makes a lot more sense if you watch them in order. Also Each show has a different feeling that makes them unique. OG Dragonball is an adventure story, it follows a young Goku discovering who he is and follows him from a young boy to a young adult. DBZ is all about Goku discovering his power and is where Shonen Jump made it's name as a power-up fighting genre. Super takes it beyond, where power is the name of the game. It takes Goku and Vegeta to the next level where you see them in this movie. As someone who's been watching these shows since the 90's, this is the way.

victoria t

Without the original fight against cell it doesn’t mean squat, it’s just special effects and powerups

victoria t

I would hope so, but a lot of new gen anime watchers expect a ton of action right out the gate like AOT or JJK. They dont always have patience for older animes with slower pacing

Hector

This was 6 years ago and still puts to sleep anything coming out today

Hector

That's Spanish be having you thinking you Goku

Benjamin Knock

No reason to watch z at all, not when kai exists that is.

Hector

I saw the Kai has a kid, the nostalgia it's too much at times

Hector

I would go bald for that

Unlucky Trandon

Bro stop with that "new gen anime fans only wanting action" crap. Just sounds like an excuse from someone who looks at a show with rose tinted glasses. Sorry for the aggression but I'm just tired of the excuse

BadCo.

That's fair, Kai does cut out a lot of the filler, but it also cuts out a lot of character building. For instance, Kai doesn't have any of Gohan's training with Piccolo. That's just one of many example's. My best recommendation is to watch OG DBZ and skip filler like they are doing with Shippuden.

DeadLotus

OMGGGG YALL NO WAYY THIS WAS SO OUT OF NO WHERE IM ACTUALLY SHOOK 😭 THIS WAS MY CHILDHOOD!!! I deadass watched the entire series in Spanish bc my dad was a huge fan. Y'all the Latino community doesn't play when it comes to Goku

Henderson C

Idk man that Fate Heavens Feel is something else...

Chrisiyyi

Start with dragonball, also If you seen it in dub why not try sub so you can compare (other boys) the sub is amazing, yes the dub is good, but once i watched sub i liked it more personally, but i guess i am not american so it doesnt rlly matter to me.

Chrisiyyi

Its actually very good, but i think its just because you watched it when young so you add the english voice to what goku sound like

Chrisiyyi

Maybe not new gen, but still alot of people seem to only want action asap though when watching db, i started with db and yes its not the same as z or super anime wise but it only made the rest better

Conk

Gonna be honest. I've enjoyed this movie more than Naruto, I can already tell Dragon ball is miles better than Naruto, even with the hundred or two hundred episodes left.

Matt Haloostock

I can understand the Goku Japanese voice criticism. I didn't like it at first when I started watching as a kid but got used to it. Literally every other character in Japanese is better in my opinion. And their personalities come off a bit different too

BadCo.

Calling OG DB dated is insane! I guess we shouldn’t watch anything pre 2,000’s cause they’re just dated lol. OG DB is just as essential to DBZ as OG Naruto is to shippuden. I would go as far as to say that OG DB is better than DBZ IMO. It’s an adventure, that doesn’t focus on power and more on the core of what makes Goku the character that he’s is down the road

Matt Haloostock

This movie basically made Broly canon. He's originally introduced in a movie that takes place in the middle of DBZ, which occurs outside the event of the actual story. This movie is great and the animation is masterclass but I feel like Broly is less of a menace now than the OG Broly movie. And there are callbacks in this movie to the OG one. The story is weaker, I'll admit, but you should definitely check the OG one out - that's the Broly I grew up with.

MCor

Facts, dbz is the only anime I watch in dub!

Garreth

I love dragonball and all the various versions, but the episodes really do drag on, similar to original naruto. I saw them get through naruto but I wouldn't want to make them suffer given how media is usually consumed these days.

cade-carter

Should definitely watch DB Kai

cade-carter

the problem with Naruto is that the lows are really low. DB is prty consistent and the action is always amazing. The best of Naruto is prty peak though and little touches the actual good fights of naruto

Mahti

Imo One Punch Man season 1 still has the best animated fights

Mahti

absolutely, makes no sense to skip the main story

Mahti

Dbz pokemon and Yugio are the only animes I find acceptable to be watched dubbed

Mahti

showing the peak of the series here will give a false sense of quality

Mahti

@Gobbo that 19 episode fight of Goku vs Frieza 😅

Mahti

no way they skip the OG

LovetheDove

Ok I need DBZ Kai reactions from y'all lol

Mahti

for me OG is the best part of Dragonball story wise, it just suffers from old animation. It's crazy to me that someone would even consider watching the show without watching OG

Mahti

Nah I'd be furious if they spoiled One Piece like this and they are watching One Piece regardless.

Mahti

Sure why not but start with OG

Mahti

It's iconic but Naruto story is 10 times better

WhynefineT

Its the guy from fortnite

Mysterious Figure

I realize and understand the legendary status DB has in the anime space. However, I think this kind of anime is the reason why SOME people get to be anime haters in the first place. Because this one is basically a cartoon mostly made for kids, which is a big reason a lot of people misunderstand anime in general. Especially when some anime reach this level of planetary popularity, the casual uninformed audience will think this is what ALL anime is like. Speaking for myself, being an adult, when something is as ridiculous looking as this or One Piece - especially, I just can't take it seriously and it annoys me beyond being able to pay any attention to anything related to its story or its characters. The design of the characters, the way they talk, everything about the world and how it works together is so extremely immersion breaking for me that it just seems stupid, unbelievable and a waste of time. But I realize fun and entertainment is subjective, so of course there will be tons of people that enjoy all kinds of things. This is just not my kind of anime. I dont find the art STYLE appealing, I think its childish, unserious, even sometimes artistically and technically lacking. But considering it's target audience are kids, it makes sense. The fight scenes in this one are at times impressively ANIMATED, and at times averagely so IMO, but overall very well made. So after sharing such an opinion, obviously I should be prepared to take all the hate for having one and all... since, its just another day on the internet. But, not every disagreeable opinion you see on the internet is bait or call for an argument. Some people just like different things and it should be ok to say it. We don't have to fight about it, ok? So have a nice day and enjoy the show. 👌❤️

D1dus

The good shit mostly. I just don't think actual Dragonball/DBZ holds up that well so I'd rather watch something somewhat quick and concise than however many episodes of meh. Also I've seen other people start with it and as some of them have seen z(?) it could work. shrug

e riv

Of course start with the OG Dragon ball. RIP Toriyama and thank you for this wonderful story, universe, and characters.

Ryze

YOOOO NEVER EXPECTED THS OMGGGGGGGGGGGGG

T.Yaseen

BTW when you watch DBZ you can do the same as Naruto where you skip out filler episode imo this is better than watching Kai, the soundtrack and character building is way better in Z

RediffMoustiflor

I've never watched Dragon Ball in English. It's actually good! I suggest you guys try the Japanese voice acting and decide which one you prefer if you ever watch Dragon Ball someday

Alex

Jack saying a good place to start is with Dragon Ball Z hurts my heart. Yes the original Dragon Ball is dated (and might not be where a lot of Dragon Ball fans started watching), but it's canon and if you want the full lore and experience of the DB universe then the correct order is definitely, Dragon Ball, then Dragon Ball Z, and then Dragon Ball Super.

KrispyKenny

kids have all the time on their hands so they are almost always the main factor when it comes to demographics for considering what type of show gets popularity. adults have a work life and can only watch so much. also sometimes its okay for things to be goofy, not everything has to be serious, deep & dark all the time

Osvaldo

Wait yall really got noise complaints? 😂😭

Osvaldo

Til this day I think the only movie I’ve ever seen in theaters that had a louder audience reaction than End game was this one.

Alex

And then the two most recent super movies. Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero (the super movies are the only canon movies in the DB universe but the non canon movies are worth watching too obviously).

corLeonis

the only Broly movie I remembered watching back in the day was the one he was trapped in ice and Goten and Trunks was looking for dragon balls then boom there was broly and as usual, raging. haha

christopher

you know what dragonball abridge would be a better reaction series than the real dragon ball lol

SeCo D. Raw

gotta check out the original broly movie if you want to see what made the REAL broly the menace he is known for in the anime verse, he is way tamer in this one

SeCo D. Raw

also the beginning of this movie is a shortened(and a little different) version of the movie "Dragon Ball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku", where Bardock fights against friezas soldiers during the destruction of planet vegeta. Thats why there is a jump cut to Bardock with tons of battle damage before getting nuked. Can recommend.

Sam M

You are spot on about everything there, I completely agree. Probably was a large part of why I was a hater for so long. Art style plays a massive role in how things are perceived.

Grae

Hey fellas any news on when Violet Evergarden's dropping?

Haven518

Surprised you guys started with this one for the DBZ universe haha

BeautyWillSaveTheWorld

Only people blinded with nostalgia would agree. I love db, it's one of the first anime I ever watched but objectively it's nowhere near Naruto. Ofc that well paced movie would make you feel like that, but try watching OG and everything after that and try to keep the same opinion

victoria t

Kai does have Gohan training with piccolo, and it’s closer to the actual manga. Not to mention the dubbing in dbz is terrible compared to Kai

victoria t

Abridged is meant to be a joke for people who have already seen the series. It’s the same as Naruto Unhinged. It isn’t a starting point, and anyone who watches it instead of the real thing gets a completely different understanding of the characters. It’s a PARODY

kai

Daima (the new one thats out rn) takes place after the main series and right before Super Theoretically yall could just start there since it gives a recap of Z but the buildup wouldn't be there for you.

Secretly

There should be no other starting point than og dragon ball. I’m sure most of us have started with Z as a kid just cause it was on tv, but you should for sure watch og first, then Z and then super.

ROSS

yall gotta do a gek gaming 1v1 sesh with the new dbz game

Secretly

Jack and the boys just completely threw the no spoiler rule away for dragon ball hahahaha

D1dus

I do get that, but that doesn't mean you can't start with it. I've never seen SAO or Hellsing Ultimate and watched both of the abridged versions, both being very good. I can't speak much for the characters in those, but in dbza I'd say they are the very least on par with the originals. Point being something being a parody doesn't mean you can't start by watching it. Unlikely that they will anyways, but I wanted to throw it out there.

Secretly

lol you're basically asking to skip some of the best parts of the series

Secretly

thing about dragon ball is that every "trope" you recognize was basically originated by them.

mako_

this is sick, enjoyable watch!

Mitch

Zs dub is literally so far ahead of Kai’s dub it’s not even funny. Go watch majin vegetas speech in dbz and then in Kai and try to tell me with a straight face Kai’s is better. The dialogue changes and dubbing in Kai sucks.

Svenny1k

facts opm season 1 was better animated

Secretly

Please consider watching og Dragon Ball it’s different but very good.

Mitchel

I really like OPM Season 1. But idk if better is the right word. Definitely had a unique style that puts it in its own category along with MP100.

Secretly

Kai is better in that sense. They cut out the filler and have a more accurate dub

Secretly

A lot of people’s misconceptions of the characters come from them just skipping og where Goku is literally defined as a character lol. It would be like starting Naruto at Shippuden because its peak.

Secretly

Love them both so much

Secretly

I think they will enjoy it since they like the adventure aspect of One Piece so much.

Secretly

Seeing how they love the adventure in One Piece, I think they’ll actually like it a lot

Nic ☦︎

OG Dragon ball is the only right place to start the series then Z and Super

Saysera

Ayyyy i love that move glad you guys watched it It's a weird intro into dragon ball but it's sort of a good one for people who don't know it at all, but i'd def recommend you guys to watch more dragon ball stuff, you can start all the way with "og" dragon ball or just dbz and then the movies, super and the other super movie which is also really good (and also GT it's kind of an alternate timeline but it has some really cool parts). hope you guys will enjoy the ride into dbz's world

kai

thats why i said theoretically

Nonos

Ron he knows they’ve seen it, I assume he’s asking when the reaction videos will drop on patreon which will be for the juicy tier patreons

SuperChuckABoo

the only true way is to watch dragonball abridged

Poragami

Jack really loved to talk during that movie lmao

Takyon

I sincerely hope you mature one day and are able to appreciate art that isn't made for edgy teens.

Takyon

these are the kind of dudes who start with Infinity War

Poragami

yeah but who tf would watch DB over Z tho

Bubble Gum

Day 1 recommending: Soul Eater

SIIver

Omg very trueee

E L

He can’t help it. Let him be

Poragami

God, stop being so defensive it's getting annoying

E L

What misinfo? Haha

Ryker

way to go with the spoilers the whole movie guys

kuza

icl dragon ball isnt really a show u need to avoid spoilers with

Jeronihmo

Z (the start at leats) slaps so much harder if you've seen OG

Jeronihmo

Just please if you ever start, start at OG DB. What's the point of starting with Z goku as an adult when you can see him grow up

Jeronihmo

Watching DBZ/super without OG is the same as watching naruto shippuden without OG

JulioLG

I'd totally go with a Dragon Ball Kai reaction, maybe with a little quick compilation video of DB to understang things. Epicness guaranteed.

Ryker

not even about the show they’ll spoil something that is explained in the movie just for it to happen 5 minutes later

Mysterious Figure

@KrispyKenny I like goofy stuff when it fits. For example Ghibli movies have some of the goofiest characters in any anime but the stories in those films have so much nuance to them and can be appreciated by children and adults alike. There are so many themes and ideas being communicated either as a direct focus of the story or being implied indirectly in between the lines. Not much of this is present in "cartoons" such as DB or OP. When I was a kid, I disliked anime like Dragon Ball and One Piece the same as I do as an adult - because I like stories or characters with more value to them other than light comedy or simply being narrative vehicles for face value common sense wisdom... so these shows usually end up no more than skin deep as far as I'm concerned. And that is also fine. There is an audience for fun and light comedy as well. People sometimes just want to relax and laugh. Nothing wrong with that.

El Qone'ars

"If they conquer worlds for a living then why don't they have a better world?" Because Saiyan culture isn't a culture of materialism and indulgence. It's a warrior culture where might makes right. They don't respect anything other than strength. Which is why Broly's father had no problem killing the a man who traveled with him and helped save his son. It's similar to Viltrum but even more barbaric.

WhynefineT

This was my first DB experience as well. It was great ngl. Nice worldbuilding

T.Yaseen

I love Daima so far but no way they can't start from there

Isaiah

Its still a all time show but its definitely very dated and shows its age badd. I dont usually recommend someone whos not already into dragon ball to try as an adult but you never know some people watched later in life and love it

Laura 🦋

this movie never gets old 🔥 goku’s transformation is always my favorite part! also love jack’s enthusiasm 😂

Picasso

Kai and then switch to funi dub for buu saga

kei hishaku

you’re comparing a modern well paced movie with insane budget, fan favorite character, and 40 years worth of lore and story built up to a weekly show where at the time pacing and animation was not a priority. The rest of the dragon ball series prior to super(which even that still has its problems) has the same problems as naruto and the other big 3 but worse. Even this movie changed the story from the original movie where it was just broly having beef with goku for crying too much as a baby.

kei hishaku

although I prefer sub i still think nana’s dub is good

Conk

This movie alone clears Naruto still.

cozo

Shocked to see this but W dragon ball

Sean Carroll

I never take a persons opinion seriously when they say that og dragonball is not necessary

Sean Carroll

Because all he did for years was get angry at goku for crying as a baby and screaming kakarot. Broly back in the day was a death machine who was cool but had absolutely zero substance

Sean Carroll

The creators of dragonball z abridged have said countless times to NOT WATCH THEIR SHOW before watching original dragonball

Sean Carroll

The creators of dragonball z abridged have said countless times to NOT WATCH THEIR SHOW before watching original dragonball series

Sean Carroll

Terrible suggestion, the creators of abridged said to watch the original series first and not their show

Sean Carroll

If you decide to watch this show, please don’t listen to the naysayers saying og dragonball is pointless. If you want to experience the story from start to finish dragonball is the place to start. Starting at dragonball z (150 episodes in) is a crime as you have none of the original story to go off when watching the dbz and the characters won’t mean as much as you go. Hope to see dragonball on the channel one day

Dale Cooper

Reading comprehension is so rare these days. I'm saying you'd be better off doing dbza than starting with Broly to introduce dragon ball. Obviously you start with the actual series, it's why I highlighted they flanderize the characters in the abridged.

Renaldo Allard

When you guys watch dbz watch the Bruce Faulconer version for the epic soundtrack in the cell saga

LuvStarburst

I don't care that you started here since I'm just a fan of DBZ. I grew up with this show back when it was on toonami.

𝕯𝖎𝖆𝖓𝖆 𖤐

Nah man starting with DB Super is not it, its og Dragon Ball wtf. I havent watch Kai tho.

LuvStarburst

At 32 minutes is the first time I've seen Cannon and Carter act like brothers.

SIIver

This is the first movie or anything related to dbz that I’ve ever watched in my life. When I tell you I was absolutely starstruck by the animation and the colors. I think you got me. I might cave and watch db.

Jonoridge

Hopefully you guys start with the OG Dragon Ball, no need to rush the series. Start from the very beginning, you'll have a blast.

Lala

Would you consider watching one of these for the next Movie?🥹 Castle in the Sky, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, or Lookback. (All sub) Also, one day, I hope you will have a 90s movie on Saturday month! Like watching Rush Hour!

Kevin Landon

I just recently watched DBZ abridged on YouTube, it's the FUNNIEST SHIT EVER!

Aya

Please start with OG dragon ball. You will understand why Goku is a kind and gentle saiyan as opposed to being violent. And I want you to see how awesome Bulma is. As another Patreon member said, it’s like watching shippuden without watching OG Naruto.

GBuckets

Well don’t expect dbz to have this level of animation

ethblade

Start with OG Dragon Ball, it's so much fun and you get to see the characters development.

roczilla_2000

Knowing nothing about DB and watching this is CRAZZYYYY 😭

Kleebo

People will think I'm annoying for saying this, but the Dragon Ball manga is the definitive version of Dragon Ball. There's a certain kind of flow of the action in the manga that Toriyama is able to capture.

Wyvern

This is the best animated dragonball movie and it's animation is better than any of the shows so don't expect this quality, but you should definitely still watch dragonball, and start at the beginning, OG dragonball can be kind of slow, but it just has this amazing cozy vibe and is so fun to watch.

Wyvern

I totally agree and I would love to rewatch dragonball with them some day.

Wyvern

But why did you guys show them this if it spoils so much of the plot of the series, whereas when watching one piece and other things you give nothing away.

Jeff

Dragonball verse is definitely goated - sucks how much series spoilers there are tho...I can see some hype and epic moments losing value with this as the introduction.😭

Jack

Cause I freaking love Dragonball

Terry C

Ugh the terrible dub..

Rudy Schwabe

I grew up with dbz on tv and vhs as a kid and then when we got cable got to watch the og dragonball, it's great. They recently remastered OG DragonBall because the orginals were all on tape and the colour's had degraded. I understand peoples hate on the english dub, I've watched it in both, there's something special about the original japanese and also something special about the english dub and personally I love the DBZ eng dub with Bruce Falconer doing the music on the tv aired version in Canada. Highly recommend starting with DragonBall and then DBZ,

Drew Shaw

Hope you guys watch DBS: Super Hero at some point as well! It's the newest movie and it's pretty awesome.

Thomas Holman

Welcome to the Dragon Ball familia!

Jim H

you guys should watch DBS Super Hero as well its even more recent and has some epic fights

Vu3doo

They shouldn't watch Super Hero. And it would be okay for them to start at Z, but honestly they should start at original Dragon Ball, then Z, then Super, then GT.

traplikemaxxx

Skipping Og db is like skipping og naruto, don’t let these fake fans trick you

Kp__

Dub is soooo bad😅😅

FallinSon76

What? can u explain how and why its bad?

FallinSon76

watch og dragon ball than db kai and finally db super in dub

Ascendedreality

I disagree so much. DB Dub is far superior to sub lol

Zess

Viltrum is probably worse lol

Brett Burrows

I saw this reaction on YouTube for about 5 minutes and then decided to join your Patreon. A cool group of friends watching one of the best Dragon Ball movies deserves to be seen uncensored.

Brett Burrows

My only constructive feedback is that is if you do end up watching the series, the friends that know the lore should not spoil anything by continuously revealing the lore of the series during the reaction. I can't speak for everyone, but I'd rather watch a raw reaction and have the lore explanations come during the post discussion.

JeanJean

Yes, Dragon Ball not super and even not Z is so overlooked, there are many fights that are some of the best in the whole series but people are power scale junkies unfortunately. It's great to see people here in the comments saying the same thing, gives me some hope we'll get peak DB some day.

Michael Kitten

Gotta binge these shows and movie reactions YESSIRRR

Michael Kitten

Definitely not, Dragon Ball dub is very good.

Michael Kitten

I’m back to this - 1:41:31 Nah man, take Goku’s strongest form and Superman’s strongest form… Superman bodies. You can never put an anime character against a comic book character, comics are too ridiculous 😂🙏

Sickness

You guys have to watch the original Dragonball before you watch Z, and super, and GT. The OG dragonball is the best one out of everything imo. Z ends up being really close but for me the nostalgia and the lack of so many KI blasts being used so much in Z as well as the actual martial arts used in the original dragonball. This is some of what makes OG dragonball the best out of all of it for me.

misspancakes

I think both are equally as good and saying one is better than the other is cringe as fuck. :P

cozo

dragon ball reaction when?

Musoko

Need a Dragonball reaction ASAP. OG -> Z -> Super->Super Hero edit: skip OG, it drags for a long time and I dont want y'all getting bored and dropping it. Start with Z and then go by ear

Al

Cool detail that after Gogeta went blue he never got hit again

Jacob Reed

More Dragon Ball! Do the Super Hero movie

Dakota

I'm not gonna scroll through all of the comments to see if anyone explained this, but the forms are plentiful and complicated if you're new, so i'll do my best to explain them. 1. Goku and Vegeta both have a base form where their hair is black and they aren't powered up or anything. 2. That base form is now inherently stronger due to them being able to achieve Super Saiyan God (the red hair). Once you achieve that form, it basically overwrites your original base power to be much higher, because they "achieved godhood" 3. After base form, is Super Saiyan (super saiyan 1) with the blonde hair. 4. They don't show it in this movie, but next is Super Saiyan 2, still blonde but shown with an electricity effect added in their aura. 5. Next comes Super Saiyan 3 (also not shown in this movie), where their hair is super long 6. There are debates about what comes next, but for the sake of ease, I'll just say super Saiyan God (the red hair) goes here. Super Saiyan God is another base form that elevates them to "godhood" 7. After god, is the blue hair form. That is called Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (SSGSS). 8. They also both are able to achieve SSGSS 2, which is just a darker shade of blue (also not shown in this movie) 9. This is where Goku and Vegeta go in their own directions. Since Cannon mentioned Ultra Instinct, that means you guys have heard of it so its not a spoiler. This is where UI would go for Goku. Vegeta's form is still probably unknown to you guys, so I don't wanna spoil that. Broly's forms are little more up in the air considering he's not a character that's seen very much. He wasn't even canon until way later. Basically, Broly is a "berserker." He pretty much runs on anger. And like the hulk, the angrier he gets, the bigger and stronger he gets. And because all Saiyans are constantly growing and getting stronger with ever second they fight, you can imagine how fast Broly can improve, and you saw that in this movie. He then obviously also achieved Super Saiyan during the fight too. The cat guy, Beerus, that you see at the beginning of the movie is Universe 7's (Goku and Vegeta's universe) Destroyer God. He literally roams their universe destroying planets and galaxies that he thinks aren't worthy of existing. There are 12 Universes in total, all having their own destroyer gods. This is all shown in the plot of Dragon Ball Super. Whis is the other guy that is with them. He's an angel. The angels are assigned to assist the destroyer gods and be their advisors. Lotta info. If you guys get around to watching the other stuff it'll all be explained. Glad you liked the movie!

Carlos arcos

Y’all should do all the dbz reaction !!

Esai

Frrrr

Logo

Please don't skip Original Dragon Ball when you guys do your reaction! It sets up a lot of things and has a lot of character development, so it will make DBZ even more impactful. Also, DBZ Kai is the better way to watch Z, so I hope you guys choose that version

Maximum Homerdrive

OG dragon ball has the charm and comedy that will get them hooked. Starting off with DBZ is brain-dead sorry

Maximum Homerdrive

also og DB is more well-rounded than any story told afterwards

Musoko

Gotta rewatch the thing that introduced me to the Geks on a random youtube recommendation. Cant wait for them to start Z next week :D

eyeball eater morgan

replying to this 2 years later to ask you guys to watch Dragon Ball pls pls pls pls

Uncle Tsukishima

Aw man, I thought juicy tier would have a lot more DB. 😢 Maybe they're saving the DBZ reactions as a "break in case of emergency" instant success button if the channel ever goes south. 😭 Maybe after One Piece, assuming it ever ends. T_T
