Alannah Caldwell

I Just finished playing the Last of us part 2 game, so I'm super excited for this, interested to see what they do with it

Brady

weekly drops >>> releasing whole seasons all at once

Jude

So excited for season 2

Sweede TW

Watched season 1 for the first time with you guys way back then and after all this time it's finally here

Kim 555

I’m gonna cry I just arrived. I’m out in 8 hours 😀

Spoons

I kinda understand the controversy with Ellie’s actress. She should look older/have more of a presence to make sure some of the themes really hit hard this season. But overall I don’t think it’s a big deal

Kim 555

I’m a college trainee 😭 it’s necessary for my degree

TheSauceGuy

I really hope this season is good and features the infected a bit more. I hope Bella Ramsey's acting can outweigh how little she looks like Ellie from P2.

GreetswithJudgement

Ellie in general is insufferable, it’s not all on the actress but it does play a huge part. Anyone can take this role on, be given the same dialogue and script and it’s still awful. Teenager or not her personality is ugly. Like we’ve seen this before in Disney channels. A laugh track should be added every time Ellie and her friend are on screen. The writing and acting shouldn’t be this bad. This episode wasn’t good and I don’t know how to be nicer than that. I don’t ever complain about stuff but for once I have nothing nice to say. It’s so unlike me 😂

TheSauceGuy

Cannon, you have to play the games on stream... I'd be happy if you streamed anything again tbh lol.

leah

you guys haven’t met eugene yet… he wasn’t in season one, dw! by the time we find out who he is in the game, he’s already dead too. he’s just mentioned briefly so you’re not missing out on any info!

SalmonYu

5 years later and Ellie looks the same

WhynefineT

just compare game adult ellie with show ellie. You'd know why the controversy began

selma

Off topic but I just went to the Attack on Titan- Beyond the Walls live concert world tour last night in LA and IT WAS AMAZING!!! If anyone was thinking of going I definitely recommend, you will not be disappointed!

selma

I should probably comment this under the last Aot 2.0 post 😅

Conk

That's how aging works in the apocalypse

Conk

No 👎 🙏

WhynefineT

The town...its been 5 years since tlou2 came out😭so nostalgic 🥹

leah

i understand your guys’ gripe with ellie and her personality and i think it was either mckay or carter who said “what’s it’s gonna take for ellie to grow up”… in my opinion, ellie was robbed of her childhood due to the apocalypse so i feel like the reason for her immaturity is because of that. she’s still a child at heart and acts goofy and tells jokes etc. because she never got a proper childhood. i will say though, without saying too much, throughout the course of the second game she does mature more so hopefully by the end you guys will warm up to her again lol

WhynefineT

I cant believe you guys have never been spoiled for tlou2. The controversy 5 years ago was arguably big as gta 6 anticipation it was a war in gaming community😂

Nicholas

Definitely not peak. But it's okay

selma

It got me super emotional, tears streaming haha bring tissues if you're a crier

WhynefineT

The game ellie is not childish at all. I think they're going for different characterisation for the show

Zipzzty

@Nicholas what do u think is peak

Zipzzty

Second game is literally better than the first one both peak of gaming tho

Nicholas

Not the last of us. Lol

Zipzzty

Time flies

GreetswithJudgement

I’m ready! But I’m not a crier! I tear up and that’s it, mostly tears of joy!

Seth Aasland

Joel trading the Mary Jane in exchange for therapy took me out lol

Garlic

I'm curious how they're going to do this season. I wasn't a fan of Part 2 the game, and before y'all call me names...no, not because of the reasons y'all would call me names for.

Maeverly

They definitely ramped up Ellie and Dina's teen snark in this episode compared to them in the game, but I believe/hope that's on purpose to emphasize changes for later on, because...if you know you know, Part 2 Ellie. Overall, I think it was a pretty good adaptation. I cheered when they showed the dog as employee of the month lmao

G

Just play the game

Philbo

believe me im not a fan of part 2 at all either lol but im curious if they are gonna adapt the game 1 to 1 or make any drastic changes

Diable Jambe Flores

I 100% agree with this. The games are very much worth playing.

Jude

Frankly I think the actress for Ellie is fine in her role. I've heard from friends that have played the game they believe she portrays Ellie pretty accurately. Most of the controversy I feel like comes from how TV show Ellie doesn't look like game Ellie but since I personally haven't played the games it's never bothered me.

Conk

No thanks!

Conk

AoT, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul. This is mid

Garlic

Same. I have a feeling I won't be able to take most of it seriously though because I can't imagine Bella pulling it off lol.

Frosty

Cannon lmao, "the cause" you talk about is *potentially* saving the world... and he killed so many people AND is continually lying to her. Joel is 1000% in the wrong, but still understandable

JoLen

I am glad you guys are justifying Ellie’s behavior. It’s such a complicated topic because Joel did horrible things, to save someone he loved.

Frosty

also the actress discourse is so weird, the show took a couple years to shoot so shes literally a few years older irl so the age gap from the show isnt much. I wouldnt be mad if they did recast but it just seems unneeded + shes been a really good actress for 99% of the series thus far... the most popular criticism i see against her is that people dont like the way she looks.... and i mean, bro wtf are we even talking about at that point? grown men complaining that a teenager in their favorite show isnt hot??????

TheSauceGuy

Joel was willing to let it happen if Ellie got to choose for herself, but the Fireflies didn't want to risk her saying no. Unfortunately for them, Ellie would've agreed, and they instead faced Joel's wrath lmao.

TheSauceGuy

The actress is older than Ellie in the game, but she still looks like a kid, so it feels off the entire time. Season 1 was one thing because Ellie is 14 years old. Ellie looks a bit older than a typical 19-year-old in the game, but stress can really age people. I don't care about her acting as it's been fine, but I don't think she was the best pick. I forgot to mention how small she is in the show now too lol.

TheSauceGuy

Well, she is and isn't, but I can't get into that yet.

TheSauceGuy

why do you dislike part 2?

TheSauceGuy

As plenty of others have said, Cailee Spaeny would've been a better choice for Ellie, especially in S2. I'm sure they could've made her look younger for S1 or just chosen a younger actress, but Spaeny is a great actress and at least looks like Ellie. I don't think she's as small as Bella Ramsey, either. I wonder if she'd have even been interested in the role for this show, though. Abby's actress is a better pick, but I still would've preferred someone that could match how jacked she is in the game lol.

Frosty

Never played the games, but imo she was passable as a 14 year old in season 1 and she’s passable as 19 this season. Like I said tho, recast wouldn’t have been a problem with me. Obviously not everyone that has a complaint is being weird about it, just unfortunate that’s the most common one I see online

Goatchis

Last of us 2 and peak lmao

TheSauceGuy

I will be happy if the biggest complaint is about Ramsey's appearance, as that means the actual content of the show is good lol.

Philbo

@TheSauceGuy Im not sure if you are asking him or both of us but im gonna say just in case lol For me, the ending of the game ruined the entire game for me. i dont wanna get too much into detail cause i dont wanna spoil but i mean the way they handled certain events in the game as well bothered tf outta me too.

Philbo

i wonder how some of her scenes are gonna look since she isnt as jacked lol cause some of the things that take place are more believable because of how she's built if that makes sense

TheSauceGuy

There are already some significant differences between the show characters and their game counterparts, at least in terms of actions.

WhynefineT

Let cannon play and others watch. The living area would be nice. You guys can create a gaming channel too

CoLdBITeR

Im excited to watch your guys reactions, but i promised to watch it with someone else first so it will sadly have to wait. Hope you lads enjoy the second season. 🥳

TheSauceGuy

If the pacing is anything like the game's, this is going to be a rollercoaster of emotions lmao. Also, this season only covers around half of the second game, which means another long wait :(

TheSauceGuy

I mean they had Bella take down that massive guy, which simply wouldn't happen like that unless he's completely incompetent lol.

TheSauceGuy

group letsplay would be sick

TheSauceGuy

Guys, this isn't an "all of a sudden" switch with Ellie; it's been FIVE years.

TheSauceGuy

The games don't have many major choices to make, which is unfortunate in some encounters. The biggest thing I can remember is from the first game, where you can choose to kill the unarmed doctors performing Ellie's surgery.

TheSauceGuy

Controversial take: The second game is better than the first.

Garlic

@TheSauceGuy There are a few reasons, the ending is definitely one of them. If the ending was a choice and either way it lead to the same ending, I feel like that would have gotten the point across. Part 1 to me was just a story about Joel and Ellie and their journey together and I LOVED the ending to that game because it was open ended and was so fun to discuss themes and values. I was happy with that as a stand alone game even before they announced part 2. Part 2 kinda dropped a nuke on that with is tone and theme shift. I get where they were going with it but man was it rough to get through. By the time I was done with the game the story just wasn't it for me. I'd drug Ellie through hell and played through hours as a character that they tried to ham fist sympathy for to no avail. Also the pacing was HORRIBLE! People did dumb and uncharacteristic things just to get to certain story points, everyone just turns out to be horrible people and the cycle of violence theme wasn't subtle at all. It was a neon sign that was shoved down your throat. All said and done I just don't feel like this was a last of us game. It felt like a shock value lesson that used the IP.

MateoP

Well it all makes sense now 🤣

Zipzzty

@goatchis clears the first Game and both are peak of games

Ali

Wow Ellie is insufferable.

rian

when the heckin is vikings?

Garlic

Now I ask you. What makes you like the second game?

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

I had the same reaction as Cannon when Ellie said she doesn't need Joel's help😲

stako

surely the comments are cordial!!

NMP

The last of us, Abby acting sus, Joel broke Ellie’s trust… Lakers in ✋

Brady

Celtics in 4

Sam M

Dang, not good man

Billie

Is it my fav gym influencer 😛😛

Spoons

I can understand how you guys feel about Ellie. Something about the writing of this show just makes her come off as unlikable. I will say that the games don’t do this at all. I don’t think I was ever annoyed by her when playing the games.

G

🗣️ let em know Billie 😂

Crogadile

We could tell with your commentary that you never played the games little buddy.

TheSauceGuy

@Garlic For one, the game is one of the best-looking games ever made, and the gameplay is much better. As for the second game's story, people reduced it to something that it wasn't and were butthurt about it not being a carbon copy of the first game's story. I know videogamedunkey isn't the most serious in most of his reviews, but I enjoyed the ones he did for TLOU P2. People make these claims that the first game's plot was far more unique than that of the second, but I feel they're very comparable in this regard. I could go on a whole rant, but I'll wait until the story progresses so I can see how the show and Geks handle things.

TheSauceGuy

It makes you more hyped, but I just want to binge it all. If I binge it all, slip and fall, I will never look away.

Crogadile

Ellie is annoying, ABby is annoying. Lore accurate characters. In for a good time lol

Kim 555

Cannon don't play us like that. I'd be SAT for TLOU 1 gameplay >:) and please save the vods or record them for a youtube drop if you can't so if we miss it we can watch it later

Kim 555

This adaptation is already getting way different than the video game in some parts and I like it better that way. It's already enough that the game is set in 2013 but the show was set in 2003 (the beginning of the apocalypse)

TheSauceGuy

@Garlic The core plot of the first game is something more people can vibe with because it's simpler and less depressing imo. The second game is incredibly gritty/depressing compared to the first. I like to see those alternative perspectives that audiences often don't see. I will agree that the theme is shoved down your throat at times, but I blame that partially on the lack of media literacy. My favorite show (Attack on Titan) shoves certain themes down your throat as well, but I still love it. I will also agree that the pacing (and location jumps are all over the place lol. I feel like they could've split the second game into two games and just developed each playable character's journey more. I feel like they'll improve the pacing in the show, at least somewhat.

TheSauceGuy

@Philbo I think the ending is meant to be unsatisfying, and it just made it feel more real to me. I wish the player had more input on the journey itself, as the ending feels contradictory to Ellie's actions previously, if you know what I mean. However, I like the fact that we don't really know exactly what her thought process was, just what sparked the change. I feel like it's something you just appreciate or don't, I guess.

TheSauceGuy

Bro is the master of baiting

llB0JANGLESll

Hot Take: This show is mid and season 1 did absolutely nothing for me. TWD season 1 took a dump on season 1 of this show. literal no diff

Marlon Douglas

and the last seasons of TWD are so good, that i can compare with GOT season 8.

James Burge

Shows amazing for normies but not if u play the game

Guy

Not controversial at all. The gameplay and the visuals alone are a massive improvement, the incredible story notwithstanding

llB0JANGLESll

I haven't played the games, and this show is still Bunz, well 7/10. BUTTTTTT before y'all roast me I will watch season 2 and then reassess. Joel is decent and Ellie's gift is a cool plot point, but the character is completely unlikeable. I can't relate to this show really at all. Also, a LOT of forced narratives, if you catch my drift. Maybe all of that sort of stuff is in the game so fair enough but the way it's in every piece of media these days is annoying and pulls me out.

James Burge

Ellie swearing every sentence is the worst part me

James Burge

I haven’t played the second game but the first one was a masterpiece just so well paced, the show kinda rushed it a bit for me and I think the moments that are taken directly from the games were underwhelming and felt weird

Guy

There's still so much show left and context for things that are happening right now, so I'll say again what they all told you when you guys watched Season 1: HOLD ONTO THAT ELLIE STOCK. Time will tell

Gilster

Ellie is an actual generational performance in the 2nd game it's tough man. Never had a chance

kyle

very curious to see how this season is received. i didn't like TLOU2 at all when i played it on launch, but i gained a newfound appreciation for it when i replayed it last year. i think it started off pretty good with only a few questionable changes from the game

Guy

I think a lot of Ellie's current "disrespect" for authority can be traced back to Joel. The guy at the beginning was pulling punches so as to not knock her out and they "didn't want to have to explain it to Joel". Then, Tommy was going to put Ellie on the fence but then mentioned it's because "Joel is worried about her". Him being brought up in these situations is what set off her disrespect in these cases. I don't think it's a maturity issue, it might be a Joel issue and related to whatever's going on there?

kyle

also ellie's first encounter with stalkers in the game is fucking terrifying iykyk

Kite

All I'm going to say about Ellie's behavior is trust the process, if the season is half as good as the game this season will be peak. The Last of Us 2 is one of the best games I've ever played.

leah

she’s also two years older than ellie is at the start of the second game. i feel like the change in ellie’s looks between the first and second game was A LOT more drastic than how people normally tend to age IRL. i personally looked very similar at 14 to how i looked at 19 lol there was a lot of discourse on a possible recast but that would genuinely make no sense. bella ramsay has a very specific and individual look. recasting ellie would’ve been a huge mistake because there’s just no one else that looks like bella. in the games, you can definitely still tell it’s ellie between the timeskip but IRL, recasting to a different actress would’ve just left people confused i think. i also think a lot of the hate bella gets is because she isn’t conventionally attractive. a lot of her “goofy” moments would be perceived better by audiences if she was conventionally attractive. as someone who has played tlou2 THIRTEEN TIMES, bella does a fantastic job portraying ellie down to the mannerisms and vocal inflection… she definitely doesn’t deserve the hate she gets and it’s going to be super annoying to see that discourse all season once again.

Sam M

Absolutely the truth. This show hovers around where TWD declined to in later seasons. Not even a big twd fan but man

leah

it happens in the game though as ellie so the training scene imo did make it more believable. ellie takes down HUNDREDS of grown men in the game which, let’s be honest, just isn’t realistic in general for a 19 year old girl of that stature but i’m glad they included that training scene.

Kite

Cannon streaming the first game would feed families

Garlic

@TheSauceGuy Fair points. I do like dark and gritty stuff too (stuff like AOT and Psycho Pass). I feel like it's BECAUSE the first game had those hopeful notes that it irked me when they just threw it away. AOT universe was cooked frame one lol we knew what timing they were on. SPOILERS FOR THE GAME AND SHOW INCOMING. I'm also not a fan of how they took my boy out. it might be because that scene leaked beforehand, and I wasn't a fan of how they marketed the game as if it was a completely different story, but I had gone into the game angry. But most of all typing this out I realized I'm MOST angry about how they took the "you can argue either way"-ness of Joel's decision and kind of just made him a horrible monster (and I get it, perspective), and he was absolutely wrong, and Ellie was better off dying on that table for the impossible to scientifically exist "vaccine". and all media since then has reinforced that sentiment. (I'm absolutely not a "sacrifice my loved ones for the many" type of person). Thanks for reading my rant.

Ayoodude

Ellie sucks ..I gave her a chance but ya she stinks

LeFlaneur

Haven’t read the comments yet, but I’m sure the kids are discussing and disagreeing in a cordial and enriching manner.

JojoJack

Jaws 4: The Revenge is a better revenge story than TLOU part 2.

a_daichi

Someone already said it but I love Part 2 more than Part 1 of the game! I hope one of you play it at some point.

a_daichi

I think the attitude for tv Ellie right now makes sense with her portrayal of S1 tv Ellie imo especially with the issues of her and Joel’s relationship. She’s rightfully angry and young I was worried but I like the actress for Dina so far. One of my favs from the game! Interested to see more of this Abby.. the beginning was an interesting choice to me. Not sure I loved it. Ahh stalkers are my favorite 🙃 It’s the first episode so I’m giving this adaptation a chance and this was a pretty great episode!

a_daichi

I feel the same way. 100% would have loved for her to look older but I’m fine with it

a_daichi

wait Leah I also kind of thought that Ellie in the game looked older than 19 in part 2! Thought I was the only one

a_daichi

It is better than the first one in many ways! I wouldn’t have said this the first few times I watched the second game

anakins

I think Ellie’s actress is doing a great job, her acting is very good imo

Conk

April fools was 13 days ago

LeFlaneur

Unrelated, but did the guys watched Fallout?

Conk

How many families?

PST3

Trying to get us scared of the well shampooed clan at the start of the episode didn't work. The crew look like a bunch of baristas. Ellie is so annoying she's acting like 13yo when's meant to be 19. HBO ruining another series, GRRM didn't like what they did to House of the Dragons.

Kale

You aren’t meant to feel “scared” of the group at the start lmfao, and if the one person you put any trust in in your whole fucked up life just blatantly lied to your face and you could tell you wouldn’t act like a happy and obedient kid either 🙃🫢 Also completely unrelated projects with completely different people involved, do people like you think hbo itself produces, writes, and directs all the projects under their company? be so fr🤷‍♂️

TheSauceGuy

Well, she doesn't usually physically overpower them; she uses weapons or gets the advantage on them. She's also significantly larger in the games, so it doesn't look as odd.

TheSauceGuy

@Guy it used to be more controversial I guess, when the bandwagon hate was going on with people hating the game's story before it even came out because the YouTuber trend of hating on it.

Man Lit

GRRM has to stop yapping and finish the books

jrnoodles

Thanks Geks! Very excited about this season! Every post I see on reddit is hating on Bella Ramsey, so I hope you guys will give her (again) some chances, although I do admit on this first episode is looks like she's back to her old immature, irresponsible self. Cannon's scare scared me lol. I can already tell I will be very stressed watching this season.

tomlette

I mean Neil Druckman is a writer and executive producer on the series so he has way more input than Georgie ever did with GOT… I doubt anything is happening without his stamp of approval and it’s his story so… can’t blame HBO for this one

Icchi

All Ellie hate is completely unjustified. She’s a great actor and portrays game Ellie perfectly. It’s really just perverts being judgy.

Mitch

Such a weird projection. Why is it always attractiveness with you people? I think she comes off as such an immature brat unlike her video game counterpart. I think her portrayal is extremely subpar in which she feels annoying and cringy rather than endearing as she did in the game.

Icchi

Why you so offended by facts? The actress been gettin cooked on Twitter, YT and some of these comments based on looks… tf you mean projection? And L opinion, I just replayed the game they act exactly the same. She just has fewer scenes of being a badass.

Mitch

“Anyone who dislikes Bella Ramsey as Ellie is a just a pervert being judgey” -this is what we call projection, it’s weird and doesn’t engage with the actual point. Ellie in the second game feels COMPLETELY different already and not in a good way.

Icchi

What’s the point on cookin her looks?

alyssa

no hate to bella but gosh i wish yall knew game ellie. You would love her, she gives off a certain type of aura that is hard to replicate.

Krillin It

I actually liked Bella in season 1, but I feel like Ellie's characterization in this season (so far) is way off from the game. I really hope they bring her more in line with how she was in Part 2.

Krillin It

Yall should consider playing the game after watching. Ellie in the second game starts out very jaded and is more reserved. I think Bella nailed it in season 1 with how it lines up with the game, but so far this is a very different interpretation of the character. Hopefully it can align more closely with game Ellie as the season continues.

Krillin It

Eugene is never shown in the game or the show. He is just a background character spoken of in dialogue. In the game you find his grow house. His wife is the therapist (in the show.) It's inferred that he was probably infected in some way, which is why Joel shot him.

Icchi

Y’all mistaking hate for valid criticism. I was specifically talking about s1. This season isn’t even out yet to come to any conclusions on her character.

Jessica

The game had me on the floor for many reasons lol you guys need to play it. The first episode was amazing!! A good start, and it’s gonna be interesting to see how the story unfolds 👀

Jessica

I fucking love Pedro pascal in everything he does. The “I saved her” god amazing

Jessica

It’s true they have different vibe in some ways but I do think it’s gonna be like in s1, we just gotta give it some time. I really like Bella as Ellie. I find they have both similarities and some differences, but the essence of Ellie is still there

Conk

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. GREAT? BUAHAHAHAHAAHAH Leonardo is a great actor, Denzel is a great actor, do not call her a great actor 😂😂😂😂

Icchi

Bro a One piece villian? 💀

Sarah Rosa

He’s SOOO GOOOD omg i love him sm

Sarah Rosa

It’s SO exhausting!! Bella is absolutely amazing

Vanesa

I kind of wish they would stop trying to adapt video games into live action. I just saw a trailer for until dawn and don't like any of the cast. I would rather watch a recording of them playing the game.

Brady
>>171113080

The Until Dawn movie isn't even an adaptation of the game based off the trailer, they are using the Until Dawn name solely to sell tickets lol

Frosty

one of you is talking about the actress choice and one is talking about the writing of the character, the actor didnt decide to make the character "annoying or cringey", the show writers/directors did... im am curious though, what would the projection even be here?

JAN NARUTO

fallout or black mirror next pls pls

Conk

Nothing memorable, ass. Just play the game if you want to experience the story

DeeJayyy

Episode 2 now 🙏

DeeJayyy

Usually a couple of hours after the episode drops

a_daichi

PLAY THE GAME

tomlette

I guess maybe not today cause of Easter, but who ever knows in here lol

Belly

it was great.

a_daichi

I just watched episode 2. Absolutely fantastic. Holy shit.

Stefan

handsome is a understatement fro pedro pascal he is pure sexy

Stefan

i got my growspurt at 11 so yeah i looked the same 11-19 only difference is that at 11 my beard started and at 13-14 is was full but girls dont have that so a 11 year old and 19 year old can have barely any differences in apearance its the mental attitude that offtend inofrms on age

Chad Jordan

The game tells this story 3x better - the acting is pretty good though. Jack always tries to validate the story as its told, without thinking outside of the box or questioning anything and then he presents it as fact or common sense and its giving me the ick.

rosa_gris

Sigh. I’m finally emotionally ready to watch this.

rosa_gris

lol the dog employee of the month and bottle reference from the game. Omg a Stalker! I’m so glad they included it, seeing as how they weren’t introduced in season 1. They’re one the scariest parts of the game. I agree with Brig, that I’d rather hear the Infected charging at me than have them be all sneaky like a creep. I’m really intrigued to see how the showrunners tell this story going forward. I wasn’t sure how to feel about the changes to the story’s structure, but upon further reflection, this is probably better for show-only viewers. Just going to trust the process.

Nivek

Paying for therapy with weed is crazy. You’re doing it all wrong my guy 🤣

Jonas

11 months late, but you're retarded. Like actually. You really do project like crazy, going on about it being "perverts" upset about her not looking like game Ellie, even when the criticism in this comment thread has nothing to do with her looks, but her shitty acting, you still ask "Whats the point of cooking on her looks?". Did you not even read the criticism? You project the fact that you think it has to do with perverts onto anyone who dislikes her for any reason.

Icchi

My comment had nothing to do with this section, so what are you talking about? 💀 bro just spewing irrelevant nonsense… even the Geks themselves have commented on her looks, so again… tf are you talking about??? Projection… another word for I’m right?
