You guys should def look at Enels Cover Story from the manga, it has no spoilers and isn't covered in the Anime despite being canon and pretty important in the longrun Also as for one of the questions that came up, Enels goal was always the Moon or "Fairy vearth" as he calls it. He needed the Skypians and Gold to build the Maxim to get there, thats why he was so interested in becoming "god" of skypia and taking Shandora. Once the Maxim was completed his reason for staying in Skypia was finished, but instead of leaving quietly he decided to destroy the island and try out his new toy cause he's always on a power trip

Enels epilogue is in a cover story that is fully canon if you want to know im sure the comments will tell you. He was just sinking skypiea cause hes a dick pretty much , he just came there to build his ship due to the gold being there. His goal since he left his sky island before he got to skypiea originally has been to make it to the moon. The rewatch does make this much more clear though I will say

This whole trend of faking a character's death for shock value is so frustrating. It’s clear they want the drama and emotional impact, but still want a feel good ending and instead of finding a clever way to do both, they just bring the character back with a lazy "surprise, they're alive!"

I have alabasta at at like 9th or 10th on my arc list, skypeia is not on there. One Pace could have made this arc more enjoyable for u guys cuz they cut away alot of the anoying parts of it like luffy in the snake and satori fight and stuff

ya know this is a hot take but I have kinda warmed up to the fact that oda doesn’t really kill any characters, you really don’t see that in any other story. there was one time I was hoping a character would die recently in the manga bc I felt like it would wrap up their character arc well (and oda does take more liberties with death later on in the story) but at the end of the day I thought about what I was doing, I’m literally hoping a character dies. and even though they’re fictional it almost still doesn’t feel right to wish that. I also have a theory that oda might have a story explanation as to why characters don’t die as much but thats a whole otha can o worms

Minus a minor mini-arc at the start, very early on into the next arc made me realise 1. how attached I was to the characters and the show, and 2. That one piece was my favourite show. The next arc fucking COOKS. The way I'd describe it is everything gets elevated to the next level. As in the plot, the world building, the character's connections, the fighting, the artstyle, the setting, the emotions, your understanding of the verse as a whole. This is where everything clicks for me, it is bouta be fireeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee The animation of current one piece is impossible to beat and the artstyle they have rn is really good, but the artstyle of the next arc is maybe my favourite in all of one piece and the one that's the most 'One piece' to me. All the characters and the setting and everything looks so good in it

Oooh baby a triple drop! Thankyou Geks! I'd just like to add some thoughts regarding Carter's thoughts about maybe burning out towards the end of the arc with the fighting. Personally for me I think that in a lot of cases the fights are the least interesting part of one piece. But I think that just shows how good the story actually is, so many anime rely heavily on fight scenes as their bread and butter. My favourite part of each arc without a doubt is the start and finish, when we are learning more about the world and resolving the plot points.

I’ve always had skypiea in my top 10-8 arcs and alabasta probably isn’t even in my top 15. This is from watching the whole show in original one piece. I think how people rate one peice arcs depends on what things the arcs have that appeal specifically to each person as each arc is pretty different. For example I love the skypiea saga for the themes of unknown adventure based on legend and deep lore you’re not sure is true, as well as hidden lands in the sky. Not to mention proving people wrong who heavily doubted something you strongly believe.

skypiea is a really good arc ties to the story extremely well especially in endgame but fundamentally it just doesnt compete with other top tier op arcs in any shaper or form, i dont think i could put skypiea over most of the arcs especially the longer ones coming up but at this point of the story its definitely up there.

I’ve always felt that way too lol. Why hope a non deserving character dies just for your entertainment/an emotional pull. For evil/cruel characters it’s different of course. One piece still has plenty of other Hervey stakes to balance it out in my opinion and the characters who get defeated instead of dying usually make a noticeable change in their lives to some extent after the fact, which to me means the beating/defeat(instead of death) still has lasting impact(at least mentally) and doesn’t make their survival meaningless.

It's a little disappointing that Oda doesn't have the courage to kill off even some minor characters. Takes away a lot of the intensity and suspension of disbelief. I'm ok with there not being many, but when you give a character a scene where he explicitly sacrifices himself, bringing him back ruins that.

Just the other day I was thinking about make this same comment. I think it’s a good way to give the geks a decent gauge. This is how I rank all 9 currently completed sagas in terms of fondness/liking.(only showing the sagas the geks have seen/started watching): 1. 2. Water 7 3. Skypiea 4. 5. Alabasta 6. 7. East Blue 8. 9. -Not including the current and final saga because it hasn’t finished -FYI a saga is a collective of multiple arcs contributing to one overall sub story in the series, for example: Alabasta saga= starts at laboon arc and continues until the end of the alabasta saga.

When One Piece ends… yeah, the depression will be real. When Attack on Titan ended I cried the whole night. I was actually on vacation in Rome at the time, and we had plans to visit the Vatican on November 5. We'd booked the tour and everything. But the final episode aired on November 4, and instead of going to bed after watching it we ended up going to a bar and spending the whole night there just crying and talking about the show. When I got home, I wanted to see how other people were feeling about the final episode and that’s how I found the Studio Gek channel and got into anime reaction videos (I've seen some one piece reactions before that but didn't follow any reactor on a regular basis). Still I’m genuinely scared of what it’ll feel like when One Piece ends and can't imagine something that will be able to fill that void

Oda is a bum 😭 nothing would’ve been lost had he let ppl like Connie’s dad die 😭 im still hung up on Pell surviving that bomb and it’s been decades… Imo that’s definitely a huge weak point in the series. Not because a series needs death to be considered good, but it lessens the stakes every time there is some sort of sacrifice/death cuz you doubt if he will stick to it.

Sagas and arcs are different. Sagas usually contain multiple arcs although they can also just have one. If you search up what I suggested, you’ll be able to understand it all. This isn’t fan decided stuff or anything, this comes straight from oda.

Just in case, one last reminder that before starting the next arc (LRLL), please watch the regular one piece episode 207 from 4:30 to 8:40 and episode 225 from 2:06 to 3:09(on Crunchyroll). They have manga canon scenes from the end of Skypiea that one pace hasn’t included yet.

People have already said this multiple times, but I want to remind you Geks to watch from 4:30 to 8:40 of episode 207 and 2:06 to 3:09 of episode 225. This is manga canon content, and it’s important. You can just put these scenes in at the beginning of an episode in the LRLL arc, but watch these scenes before episode six at least, which is the last one in the arc.

Thank you so much for the triple drop! Yeah, a bunch of the scenes in the final half of the last episode are filler becasue they lead into the filler arc. Including the scene where Usopp puts dials on the keel... Someone said to me once that while Alabasta is the first saga to really expand the One Piece world, Skypiea is the first to really expand its history. But there are a lot of great things going on in this arc, I think. One of the most impactful things said in this arc IMO was how the Skypieans were spiritually weakened by guilt because of their own complicity in tricking people to be sacrificed. Being forced to do what you know is evil while being told that it is right, psychologically that must be excrutiating. And part of the prison that was built for them. Which they were constantly forced to reinforce themselves. On a more personal character level, I love how the discovery of Roger's writing affected Robin. Her smile when regaining her purpose! This gets a little lost in the anime, but both this final party scene and the one before that uses the same drumbeat, the "dondo-to-to, dondo-to-to" which becomes very obvious if you read the manga (and know katakana, I don't know how the translations do it): https://i.imgur.com/FlXZZK3.gif When Robin says "rio poneglyph", the actual kanji read "true history text". Maybe kind of obvious, but I still wanted to mention it. I actually love the way that bell sounds, but it's definitely an eerie, otherworldly sound. It IS meand to guide the spirits of the dead, after all...

I know the difference between an arc and saga, i looked at the story arcs before i even posted my first comment because i wasn’t sure if there were 10 or 11 arcs as of now. Did my count more than twice to be sure. They’re both literally called “Whole 🎂 Saga” and “ 🥷 🌺 Country Saga” . Two sagas, each with three arcs. It’s just that 🥷 🌺 is a three parter so it gets to be that the entire time.

Including a bit from ep 225 might seem a bit too far in advance but for some reason the anime just decided to reshuffle some bits to mix in with filler. But that timeframe I highlighted is the last scene of the skypiea arc in the manga.

I’m glad yall enjoyed Skypiea overall! Def top 3 arcs for me. I think ppl put Alabasta over it cuz they connect more to the side characters (like Vivi), and they like Crocodile as a villain more. About Enel, he didn’t change his goal, it was always to go to the moon aka endless Vearth. It was easy to assume that’s the blue sea, but why do you think he built a flying ship when there’s ways of getting down to the blue sea in normal ships? He wanted to destroy Skypiea because of his god complex, stating that it’s only a place for the Gods and humans don’t belong up there but only down below. That’s also why he destroyed his OG island. Ultimately he lost to Luffy so he decided to just leave quietly while he still can and at least achieve his one goal. Enel has a bunch of cover stories that follow him if y’all want to look into them (there’s huge theories that have spurred from them and recent manga events keep adding onto them). The manga cover stories are a huge way Oda communicates what other characters are doing outside of the main crew. I believe at this point in the story, you would’ve been following an Ace cover story of him looking for his ex-crew mate that he mentioned back on Alabasta. Also, Carter offhandedly said smth CRAZY 😭 just need to wait 1000 episodes to see it 🙂‍↕️

Technically it doesn't start until the middle of EL somewhere, if you want to read it where it takes place. There are three cover stories before it (where they are now it's the Ace one).

Exactly. I can understand mistaking it for the Blue Sea, but that thought never even crossed my mind when I first watched the series. It didn’t make sense that he’d go join humans down below when he looks down on them so heavily, plus he referred to the Blue Sea by that name so Endless Vearth had to be referring to smth else. I was confused as to what tho. Initially I thought it was some other island (which is why he’s flying to it) but the end of the arc made it make so much more sense 😭

The trademark of filler arcs is the main characters getting pushed around in dumb ways, and that is constantly happening in LRLL and it's super annoying. Also you know who is probably the most unlikable character in the entire show. I'll take Mr. Balls himself Sasori over him

I have the maybe even hotter take that death is a cheap and often lazy way to create drama and sense of what people often call "stakes", lol. To make people excited about the story without the risk of death, that takes skil! I do think that Oda has a couple of instances (Pagaya and Pell) where he unnecessarily created a situation where it looked as if they had died. I don't have a problem with them not dying, I just think it was unnecessary to pretend that they ever had, you know? Although Pagaya apologising for being alive was funny. That said, there is only one other fake-out like this (very far ahead), so he got a lot better about not creating false sacrifices anyway, which I appreciate.

I like that arc! But I actually never suffered through the whole Toei version as even before I knew about One Pace I skipped all of the pure filler episodes. Later I read the manga, and appreciated it way more. I'm also curious to see if rewatchers catch the arc theme now that they're watching the one pace cut.

One thing I never put together until now that I think is an interesting parallel, is how in the past the Shandians worshipped their God and made human sacrifices to appease him until Nolan kills this God (the snake) and sets them free, but then in the present the Skypieans are also in a cycle of making human sacrifices to their God (Enel) until Luffy comes in to defeat this God and set them free as well. Obviously the parallel is presented pretty blatantly with the past and present of the sacrificial alter but I found it interesting thinking of the whole story in context and how far the parallels run.

While it seems like the resolutions of OP enemies are never showed they actually are in the cover stories of the manga. They show what happens to Enel after his defeat and what he does after. All you need to do is search up "one piece enel cover story" and you can see his resolution. Cover stories are always interesting because it shows that time and the world of one piece keeps going even when the strawhats aren't there and many of them do tie back in to the main story as well.

I used these four source materials: - One Piece Wiki under “story arcs” - Wikipedia.org, under “list of One Piece episodes (season 15-present)” - libraryofohara.com - chatgpt, where I wrote “give me a verified list of all one piece sagas” (I discovered from the last two source materials that some of the arcs I thought were arcs, were actual sagas so it amounts to a total of 13) So as far as I can see, with myself and these four sources separating the 🎂 saga from the 🥷 🌺 saga, I’m not inclined to believe that I’m the one in the wrong. I think the reason why you guys enjoyed this more than Alabasta is because you guys watched it in one pace which significantly improves the pacing. Hot take but I think you guys should continue with one pace. But Water 7 is going to be insane, one of the best arcs in anime imo.

I watched skypeia in the original version and loved it. 95% of one piece fans have watched it in the original version and almost every fan I've met in person loved the arc as well. The only critics I ever saw were from people online and the same critics were the ones loudest in the comments. While watching it, I only had a problem with pacing with one part but it didn't as much bother me. So in my eyes One Pace doesn't make the arc better, because the arc was already incredibly good on it's own. It simply just improves the pacing. You can argue that that's what made the arc better, but for me personally if an arc has great storyline, not even the pacing could make me hate it or dim it down. Sure, I'll get annoyed but it won't change my opinion on a great arc. Maybe I'm just used to long animes now that pacing doesn't necessarily bother me unless I don't like what I'm watching.

It’s not gonna be an xtra week. There’s 6 One Pace episodes for LRLL. Which will be more than a week. If they pace it out at 2 One Pace episodes a week like most of Skypiea then it’s gonna be 3 extra weeks. Which is why I wanted them to skip it. A few laughs and one important character introduction isn’t worth 3 weeks of time imo. I was with the idea of letting Jack recap and then they pick it up from The end where the character gets introduced.

One Pace is an interesting thing because it basically improves the lows of the show (bad pacing) while also decreasing the highs (due to the abrupt and akward cutting). In the end both ways are fine and what you choose to continue, both ways are fine. But remember in the end that One Pace is still a fanedit and thus some scenes are just not cut that well and rather amteurish due to the anime format. It does improve on pacing but it also introduces a lot of rather awkward scene cuts.

Skypiea is objectively better with One Pace (even if you consider the normal version good). I know there are a lot of die hard fans of the original, but it's pretty lame to just dismiss and not credit One Pace like that. Plenty of arcs in post TS that are in the same boat - where people would just drop the anime instead of continuing to watch. Pacing is extremely important.

@ahmad I'm not trying to dismiss or not giving credit to One Pace. I didn't even know One Pace was a thing until like last year. The Geks watching Skypiea with One Pace is my first time witnessing it. After watching it in One Pace, I feel the same way as I did watching it in OG. One Pace didn't make the watch objectively better for me than OG. I loved watching the arc in One Pace as I did watching it in OG. So really nothing has changed for me. I get what you mean by the post TS arc having pacing issues because I agree. An example is DR. I'm 100% confident that One Pace fixed the pacing in that arc. Even though I was annoyed with the pacing like 2 times in the arc, I still loved it hands down. When the pacing was a lil bad, it also made me want to watch more/binge so we can get back on track. I don't get annoyed in an angry way, I kinda laugh at it. I think the memes that people make of the pacing is hilarious. It's like an inside joke if you watch in OG. My whole point is that no matter how bad the pacing is or how annoyed I get, if the storyline is great I'm not letting it bother me as much and cloud my judgement of the arc. Even with the pacing issues in DR, I still give it a 9.3, the arc was great from beginning to end. It honestly also depends on the type of watcher you are because I personally have no problem watching long shows. And due to that, pacing doesn't as much bother me unless the season/arc is bad and One Piece doesn't have any bad arcs (except for Syrup Village) so I still stay enjoying what I'm watching and will stick to watching in the OG. I want all the episodes I can get honestly, I grieved when I caught up.

I'm on episode 366 and will say that there is a lot of good to come. The transitionary period between Skypiea and Water 7 is kind of boring with some funny moments mixed in. Once you are past that though it is a good time for most of Water 7--I'm sure everything will be a lot more enjoyable with One Pace as well. I'm not sure if I prefer Alabasta or Skypiea, but I definitely prefer Water 7 over both of them. To me, Water 7 is when the show really finds its footing--any doubts you have about the show will be squashed during Water 7. You also get to meet one of my favorite characters!

The thing about this arc is the pace, I hated it, but it set up most of the lore of one piece, so it is a really good arc! I didn't know about one pace, watching like this made it so much more enjoyable! Also, there is a theory that the gods came from the moon, so that why Enel wated to go there! There is also a cover story that shows Enel reaching the moon, but I don't know how much of it is cannon!

Oda and his editors have been calling Z-WN the 4ko saga. If I come across the evidence again I’ll link you, multiple year old statements are hard to find but those arcs are defiantly in the 4ko saga.

When I first started, I already loved the show up to this point but W7 Saga cemented OP within my Top 1 to 3 most favorite animes of all time so I hope you'd get to enjoy it a lot as well. I think it would be fine to just use One Pace from the next arc onwards, you're not really missing anything important by doing that and it saves a lot of time.

There are some moments from the main portion of the arc that I remember well and enjoyed, but the behaviour of the ‘villians’ really pissed me off and at times I wanted that whole portion to end quickly haha. i got the notification yesterday but couldn't watch because it was late for me and i had a dream it was next week and you guys dropped a reaction to that episode lol can't wait till you guys are caught up with us and have you say "there's not enough one piece" we've come so far and skypeia is such a nostalgic arc to look back on from where we are in the story. aside from the crazy foreshadowing, it was romanticism in it's purest form. i feel like it is an arc that encapsulated the idea and theme oda had from the very start. a few years ago i picked up the manga when the anime's pacing was getting too much and reread arcs i had problems with and skypeia was one of them and i had that realization while reading it. can't wait for you to experience the next adventure! I disagree. The cuts make the highs a lot MORE enjoyable due to the good moments no longer being dragged down and partly hidden by irrelevant and distracting filler moments. There are a few abrupt cuts, but not that many. The only arc where I'd say it's noticeable is the first one they did (Dressrosa), and that arc is such a horrible experience in full Toei version that it's still a huge improvement.

also you have to keep in mind when roger came to sky island it was more than 2o years ago, before enel and before the conflict was as intense as it was when straw hats came. sky island was just another island he had to go through to get to the one piece, so he was like a tourists. also, ganfall and sky people don't know anything about blue sea people, so he was just a random guy to them rather than "the king of the pirates" (he didn't even get that title yet to begin with, he was just pirate gol d roger)

so real! skypiea gets criticized a lot but I think the main message of this arc is essentially what one piece is all about. romanticism, adventure, discovery, dreams, friendship, history, and so much more. yeah the pacing is ass but there's just smth about it that's very touching.

Just here to advocate for G8. It's not canon, but it's the best kind of filler. If you love the Straw Hats and want more time with them, it's worth it. LRLL is also great. There's a constant push for people to skip these, and while G8 isn't canon, LRLL is. You never know when Oda is gonna call back to something. And honestly, you only get so much time with the Straw Hats. It's your reaction, your voyage, enjoy it your way. You only get one first time!

After Dalton shows her Luffy’s wanted poster, she sees the “D” in his name & says she’s relieved to see the “Will of D.” appear again, it reminds her of Roger. But then, Dalton is confused and says, “You mean DOLD Roger?” Then Kureha reponds with: “is that what they call him these days” This moment is not just trivia - it’s a key hint about the mystery of the “D.” initial, showing that it’s mysterious legacy which was recoginised by older generations, became lost among the newer generations - more so publicity change. hello another day of me advocating for G8 i think i have included it on every comment since coming to Skypiea. it's the ONLY filler worth watching. Also to reexplain from what i think. Enel always meant the moon when he talked about endless Vearth. He basically thought everyone in Skypiea as thinking they were better than those in the blue sea when really they are the same and up where the moon is is the land of the Gods "endless Vearth" and where he belongs. So he was sending Skypiea and everyone on there back to the sea where they belong because the skies belong to the Gods not false God's and "angels."

The reason why people don't care about filler is precisely because it's NOT written by Oda. It's someone else's take on the characters, and while some people enjoy it, is this really how Oda would have written the characters? Also, the story is, by definition, always going to be self-contained and not affect the rest of the story. This is actually one of my own main problem with Toei's filler additions to the canon arcs: the characters are often flanderized and slightly off in a lot of ways.

This is also why it pays to listen to the cadence and emphasis of what they characters are saying. Her repeating of Luffy's name where she goes: "Monkey... D?" should make you take notice!

Oh yeah, agreed, some filler, especially some of the movies are great despite not being canon. I just don't blame people for not being interested in non-canon material, especially on a first watch or read. I mean, you could say that one of the fun parts of the movies specifically IS to see the take of another writer/director on the series. Even if you don't agree 100% with the interpretation. I think that the difference in filler quality is mainly what the reason for making that filler is. When it's just done to stall for time, as it usually is in the main anime, it's not going to be very good. It's been a while since I watched Baron Omatsuri, but I remember that I loved it and that I was really impressed by it! I'm definitely going to rewatch it at some point. The animation itself was really cool too.

To add on to what others have said about the cover stories/villains there’s a SBS segment from East Blue saga where Oda explains why it seems pirates don’t really kill each other off. It’s still kinda dumb for “villains” but shows an important part of the way Luffy thinks

I dont want to dictate how you guys should watch or feel about one piece but I do hope you guys will watch it w/o just wanting to catch up or for the serious parts only (not saying that how you guys are watching it but just in general ) yk just enjoy the ride and the silly goofy characters and moments in the show for what they are. oda has said at the end of the day despite all the dark topics it tackles, he wants op to be a show that will make people laugh, have fun and be happy.

Japan was polled and it's in their top 3. Personally I've read Alabasta before and it was top 1, not just in the series but any work. It's probably like 9-8 in most peoples rankings tho. Skypiea might not be in most peoples top 10.

I don’t have that virtue. I prefer binging. I am looking forward to too many arcs to care about the fact that I did enjoy G8 when I watched it. It doesn’t trump my desire to see them get to W7 and every following arc, so I’d rather they skip it. And personally, I will experience more as I watch them enjoy the canon episodes.

@Marcus, yeah, I didn't mean to single out Toei, I just mentioned them to compare One Piece manga to anime. A lot of the older year-round anime (Naruto and Bleach, as well as One Piece) gets it worse because there is more filler in pure quantity than for seasonal anime, but seasonal anime isn't exempt. I will not bore you with my thoughts on the AoT adaptation, but I have... a few, lol.

LUFFY'S SHADOW IS GOATED. I can't wait for the next saga! It's one of those milestone sagas. As a staunch Alabasta defender who has it at the number 9 spot, I will say that nostalgia does play a factor because it was the first arc I binged, but it has so many amazing moments. Ace's introduction, Luffy preserving (and later using) Yuba's water, Mr. Prince, everything Crocodile, Luffy's first (and second) true defeat, Vivi's anguish, Usopp standing tall for Luffy's dream, Zoro v Mr. 1, EVERYTHING WITH MR. 2, Luffy finally beating Crocodile WITH HIS OWN BLOOD WHILE NEW WORLD SYMPHONY PLAYS IN THE BACKGROUND AND THE RAIN FINALLY FALLING WHILE SIGNALING THE END OF THE WAR AND VIVI'S FAREWELL. I'll defend it to my dying day (except for Pell, good lord)

For me LRLL was crew bonding arc and breather between two major arc, in the manga it was super quick but anime was super bloated with fillers and even dragged out non filler scenes. I personally didn’t care for it in the manga & certainly couldn’t watch toeis version 😂

Also, to be honest I didn’t watch one pace the first time I watched one piece and I liked skypea better. There were some lows (some fights I could care less about) but I never understood the skypea hate forreal. I loved the lore of the story while watching. To this day I’d have skypea over alabasta for me. Neither would be in my top 10 though

I’ve definitely met people who have Alabasta in their top 10 or even top 5, but never Skypiea. From what I have experienced, being a fan of One Piece for over 10 years, it is consistently one of the arcs that is not as talked about and not as highly rated. It definitely felt like an afterthought arc to me. Watching it again was fun tho, I will admit. But it doesn’t even compare to this next saga in my book. It’s the part of the show that made me fall in love with One Piece and place it at the top of all other media. It’s where it became untouchable and something I knew would stay in my heart for the rest of my life. It is not my favorite arc or saga in the series, but definitely in my top 5. It is super nostalgic and means a great deal to me. I will for sure be shedding more then a few tears during this rewatch lol

I watched Skypiea with out one pace so many times and loved it. I will agree first time one pace watch with the gek boys way better. Skypiea top 5 maybe even 6 for me.

Alabasta is probably 6 for me on my top 10 - definitely above Skypiea. I was more attached to Vivi and her story though. Vivi will always be a part of the crew.
