I'd say im okay, id just had a these typical Toei scenes where they hover a shot for ages or show random reaction shots. Maybe the Manga and One Pace spoiled me in terms of pacing. Having seen/read all versions, Toei's pacing is super noticeable to me.

I love how Usopp is one of Jack's favorites in the crew. I think he or it was alluded that he was when they first began watching One Piece. If I'm mistaken tho, we still love Usopp and the boys locking in for him Every time I see Luffy being serious, you know some shit is about to go down😂 With Luffy being 1 by default in my favorite on the crew, Sanji is my 3rd favorite and one thing I love about him is his lines/comebacks/sassy comments. His lines to me are the best in the crew or show

no one is upset buddy it's the fact that you said one pace would be better when they hardly removed anything. i know hating on toei is easier i guess but give them credit where credit is due. this episode needed the pauses, they received horrible news, they saw their friend get beaten multiple times trying to get money for a ship they cant repair. if this was sped up (again one pace kept it exactly as it is btw) none of the emotional highs would've landed

Im mainly talking about stuff where it seemed like the whole show slowed down or the show puddles of blood and everything stops. Im not even talking about the Franky House Walk or anything. There are lots of tiny things that i feel like are dragged out. And one pace is still working on arcs (W7 included) since those cuts are old. And i guess it was faster in my memory but asking if im okay and all this other passive aggressive shit is just kinda whack imo.

I love when Luffy gets serious. it's such a common trope for shounen protagonists to be goofy as hell so when they get serious it hits extra hard... but it never hits quite as hard as when Luffy does it. Always peak.

im not trying to be aggressive but the pacing is completely fine the geks didn't even complain about the pacing themselves when they usually do. and the majority agree on water 7 specifically not needing one pace. and here's a lil info since im in the one pace discord. when they say they're still working on arcs that were done they mean they'll fix some arcs with weird cuts like skypiea, add better subtitles or higher quality episodes but their cuts remain the same since it's following the manga. and these episodes follow the manga to a T. the pauses and them showing blood ot whatever is a DIRECTIONAL choice which works perfectly in setting the mood. hell it got the geks who don't appreciate usopp to feel bad for him. again i didn't try to come across as passive aggressive and if it seemed that way apologize, but carter expressed how he wants to have the organic one piece experience, pushing one pace when it is not needed is going against their wishes. you've had your experience let them have theirs.

So, I just assumed since then that he has him as one of his faves. Plus on the rewatch he never once hated on Usopp as much as the other guys, so I can tell he appreciates him❤️

In terms of ship weight: yes a ship’s weight has a big impact on buoyancy and draft. More weight added can affect the ships ability to float and how deep it sinks in water at rest. Most metals are heavy, so to counteract how much weight you are adding to the frame you’d have to add hella support to the surrounding structure to make sure the tension and weight being added is distributed properly and not all in a concentrated area.

Usopp is my favourite Straw Hat after Luffy easily. He’s the most realistic Straw Hat. I’ve come to like Zoro less and less. The badass, emotionless, nonchalant trope gets tiring and boring. I value Usopp’s friendship with Luffy more than I do anything else. Luffy did all this, not because they messed with his crew but because they messed with Luffy’s best friend. Being “epic” and “aura-farming” doesn’t interest me, I’ll leave that to lesser animes. I like that McKay mentioned Usopp has something to prove, nobody else seemed to mention his character.

Completely the opposite for me. At this point of the anime, Usopp is my least favorite Straw Hat and as someone who’s caught up with the manga, he’s my second to least favorite. What I love about Zoro is his unwavering loyalty to Luffy, how he keeps a cool head in most situations and how many of his insightful moments have proven him worthy of being Luffy’s #2. He used to be a lot more easy going and prone to laughter when they first became a crew, but you can tell how seriously he’s taking this pirate life and the danger that comes with it by the subtle shift in seriousness his character took overtime. He’s my second favorite Straw Hat and as far as his rank in the anime, he’s my third favorite character, right after Luffy and Ace.

What led to Luffy’s decision of letting go of Merry, at least what I got from all of this; Is that back at the shipyard, along with luffy taking the shipwright’s assessment seriously, Iceberg’s words about being a bad captain by risking your crew on an unstable ship really got to Luffy, but he was still coping, with his loyalty to/love of the Merry still being in forefront of his mind. However soon after when luffy saw one of his crew-mates in a dangerous state and after going through a serious battle just for the sake of a crew-mate, he sobered up and realised he has to prioritise the safety of his crew rather than indulging his sentimental feelings.

Just want to point out that Usopp usually runs away from conflicts and always tries to avoid pain. Yet in epsiode 233 he goes OUT OF HIS WAY to storm into the den of the enemies who beat him up, alone. Then even when he was being trampled all over by them, all he was focused on was Franky who was walking away with the money he was responsible for, the only reason he went to fight. That’s why although he’s annoying I can never hate usopp, he always tries to do the right thing when it matters, even when the odds are against him.

I meant to mention something sooner but the costumes and masks that some people are wearing in Water 7 are a real thing in Venice. I learned it somewhat recently myself. People dress up in elaborate costumes for the Venice Carnival, which is around the beginning of lent each year. The designs some people come up with are truly impressive, and some a kinda creepy too

adding onto what jack said, iceberg calling him out as a captain was a big hit on luffy and a wake up call for him really. his stubbornness to keep merry would not only put the rest of his crewmates (who have entrusted their lives and trust to him) lives in danger but it would honestly be cruel to merry as well. it made him think things and lock in for sure.

Yeah I just see Zoro as generic and boring. A standard macho tough guy that literally every anime has. Usopp has something to prove. If he was brave, he would have achieved his dream and left the crew, but that would be poor writing. He’s more realistic and open with his emotions and he’s the only one on the crew with no formal training or supernatural ability. He’s a regular human that is easily stronger and braver than most people in the real world and the One Piece world. It’s the contrast to the rest of the crew that people seem to hate. I love his character, call him useless all you want, but I value his dynamic with the Straw Hats more than any combat ability. They wouldn’t have even made it to the Grand Line without him anyway.

Wouldn’t say he’s “braver than most,” but I guess what we’re trying to say is he’s not a rare type of character. Just like there’s always a Zoro, there’s also always a Usopp; both done in different degrees. I never vibe with Usopp types. It’s really just a matter of taste. And for me what’s lovable about Zoro isn’t necessarily all you mentioned, but rather his dedication to the crew and most of all, to Luffy. Luffy couldn’t have asked for a better right-hand, and because I love Luffy so much, I can only love Zoro for who he is even more.

I think Usopp is easily braver than most. He fights monsters with nothing but his wit and a slingshot. Idk about you but that sounds insane to me. From my perspective, Usopp’s loyalty is to his friends moreso than the cohesion of a pirate crew. Zoro seems more intent on the honor, culture and tradition of the pirate crew structure. I do agree that maybe we just like different things. I find Zoro a bit of a buzzkill but that’s his job i guess.

It's also like forcing a pet to keep going when they're in too much pain, it would be cruel to put Merry through more unnecessary pain when they could let her pass peacefully. I think that's what the Galley-La shipwrights were trying to get him to realize and that combined with your take led him to his decision.

Anything that displaces a larger volume of water than itself will float, the weight is not the issue! About the devil fruits, they were rare in East Blue, but not in the Grand Line (there was a line about this in the Baratie arc, IIRC). Possibly because people with powers flock to the GL as pirates, possibly for other reasons. The announcer girl in the water lift is a reference to the elevator girls that the department stores in Japan used to employ! Their jobs were to press the button of the floor the customer asked for and announce the floors and what goods were on which floors. Back in the early 2000s when Oda wrote the chapter this episode is based on they were still fairly common. There might still be a few places that employ them, but not many. I think it says a lot that Usopp can be so open with Nami in a way that he can’t with the rest of the crew. While Nami doesn’t have any hangups about being weaker than the others she still understands how it feels, and I think that creates a special understanding between the two of them. Also, I think it’s great that they have this bond, having someone who really gets it amongst a crew of people with monstrous strength. It’s a shame they removed so much of the blood in this scene, though. @mahti yeah I do get what kaya means, there were a couple of shots where they hovered just a little too long that it started to verge on ridiculous. But I'd say it's a nitpick. This early in the arc there is practically no padding. Well, aside from the recaps. I dislike how the midcards break the moments, but that's a different issue.

Can confirm the elevator people still exist in the fancy departments stores in the cities lol. That used to be a thing everywhere though at one time, in developed countries.

Makes sense that the fancier places still have them! I haven't been back for a few years, but there were fewer and fewer places employing them each time I went

Like to see you guys care about Usopp hahaha after all the sad talks about him which I get. It's nice to see this though. Mckay saying "I don't like this" when Usopp is getting jump by the Franky family but he said he would bet on all his berries to give up Usopp to the foxy crew (I think that's what he said it but not too sure) but anyways I liked seeing concerned look on your guys face because you cared enough about Usopp.
