RAAAHHHH goated drop!!

Masta Jags

Insane new one piece chapter leaked today and gek uploads reaction to a peak moment

KenpachiKam

Bro this episode legit for some reason was the first that actually made me like super super in love with this show, I could write a novel explaining why but.... if you know you know..

Nami Swannn

Carter asked for more Usopp development back in LRLL and he got it (but at what cost 😭)

Jude

This conflict made me appreciate Usopp more, as it added depth to his character. I mean, he’s surrounded by monstrous fighters like Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji. Nami, Chopper, and Robin are essential to the crew because of their roles as the navigator, doctor, and archaeologist, respectively. In contrast, what key role does Usopp really play? Sure, he’s an amazing sniper, but Luffy, Sanji, and Zoro are already incredible fighters. He tried his best to patch up the ship, but he’s by no means a shipwright. So, from his perspective—surrounded by all these amazing people—I think it was natural for him to develop an inferiority complex. Usopp thinks if they’re willing to abandon the Going Merry like this, what’s to stop them from doing the same to him down the line? Obviously, the crew would likely never do that, but at this point in time, he’s thinking emotionally rather than rationally. Just recently, his incompetence was shoved in his face when the Franky Family casually stole the money from him the crew had earned to fix the Merry. This conflict both with the crew and within himself is one reason a lot of fans love Water 7.

Ari

Thanks 🙌🏻

KenpachiKam

like no joke i dont care what anyone says this is one of the best fights in all of anime. doesnt need insane modern animation or budget to be better than half the shit people praise tody

Marcus D

ARIGATOGOZAIMASU😭

KenpachiKam

Mckay "the death of Ussopp?" has me in tears XD

JMP

Since Usopp has joined he's never looked at Luffy as the captain but as his friend, couple this with his inferiority complex and him tying his own worth and value to the crew to the ship. Hearing Luffy not only saying they're getting a new ship but saying to get off the ship if he disagreed feels like a betrayal of friendship more so than a captain's decision.

TrueCrisp

I by no means liked the LRLL arc and foxy, but Oda did some foreshadowing in that arc. That whole arc is about the prospect of losing on of our beloved crewmates, and now we're losing Usopp, Robin is missing, it's just a mess. So Foxy is still annoying for sure, but this arc makes me appreciate his character's presence more

Dreamknight942

I knew you guys would love these episodes! Heartbreaking. The conflict was so well written and made so much sense. Also the Going Merry Lego set mentions are so random and funny.

Sun

Caught the drop, had a good cry, now I’m emotionally cleansed and ready for bed. *sob*

William Glasgow

we've all been here, when a miscommunication brings out a bunch of unresolved doubt and pain. then we say or do something we just can't take back

greyxwaren

yeahhh he did the best he could when he could but compared to the monster trio his contribution pales i comparison. even luffy going "stop mesing around" and him going "you think im messing around but this is my way of fighting" it hurts mannn

cozo

this is still just the beginning of water 7 😭😭

Nami Swannn

I love how your initial reaction to hearing the Merry can’t be fixed was exactly like Usopp’s 😂 Anyways there’s so many layers to peel back over his decision to leave. He loves the Merry. Kaya was the one who gave them it so it was a connection to her and his home. In his eyes she’s a beloved crew mate. But there’s also the fact that he saw Luffy’s decision to not fix the Merry as a sign that once someone was no longer helpful, they would be cut from the crew. He put himself in that spot and thought he would be cut loose in time too. Especially since the only unique role Usopp had on the crew was maintaining the Merry. He’s not a strong fighter, he can’t cook, he’s not a doctor, he can’t navigate etc…this was the one thing only he could do and now it’s gone, so what value does he bring to the crew now? He felt like his contributions to the crew were not only in jeopardy moving forward, but also being undermined up to the present. Ultimately, his insecurities drove him to leave :( I think that’s why even though ppl might not necessarily like Usopp, it’s very easy to feel for him in this moment because those are very real emotions most of us have experienced at some point in time (and even thought about Usopp, we just didn’t think he thought this of himself too😭). It’s moments like these where I appreciate how well rounded Oda made each crew member because this wouldn’t hit nearly as hard if we didn’t know them as well as we did. Like why does this feel like my family is breaking up 😭💔💔

Marcus D

Carter said “I hope usopp gets another moment in these episodes”, oh no😂. If only he knew

ace

Rewatching the first crew member leaving is rough...

Nami Swannn

It’s also the fact that this conflict between them feels so real. Oda cooked with the character writing because it feels like a real argument you can see happening between them. We know both their characters well enough to the point where you can genuinely see it playing out as such, which makes it hurt even more. None of it feels forced or uncharacteristic, the buildup is organic and like yall said, the clues were always there, we just never thought Oda would ACTUALLY go there 😭

Sun

That was such a well-thought-out take. The tension between the crew in that arc felt incredibly real—so much unspoken emotion, miscommunication, and personal insecurities all bubbling to the surface. It’s one of the most human moments in the series.

Marcus D

“Carter, i’m looking at Jack you rat.” Cannon you’re looking at the epsiode title through the reflection of Jack’s glasses, don’t think you’re slick 👀

Nami Swannn

Thank you! And I totally agree, that why I really love everything about this. Everyone, not just Luffy and Usopp but the rest of the crew as well, act exactly how you’d except them to if this was an argument playing out in the real world. It’s so organic. You can see both their POVs and totally understand where they’re both coming from. Both arguments are valid and it makes you feel even more torn, just like you normally would whenever you see two loved ones fighting. Then Luffy losing it and almost saying something he’d regret, before being cut off, just to immediately regret that made it feel even MORE real. But it was already too late. The damage had been done and the consequences followed right after 😭

farkzzy

literally the saddest eps ever

Dounia

What Carter said in the outro is very true this specific moment turned the whole show into something else for a lot of us. The moment I watched those episodes is the moment I felt in love with the show. Usopp is one of Oda’s favorite characters and the main reason is that he is the most “human” and “realistic” member, he is the character that represents the scared ones, the ones that have dreams but are too frightened by the reality of the world and their own personal trauma to do something. They fought about the Merry but when you think about it again you realize it’s much more than that, Usopp felt useless, he felt like he was a burden for his own friends that he see as his family. Like you said it was super sad (I cried a lot the first time I watched it) but it had to happen for the show to have a deeper meaning but also for the crew to grow in a better way. I’m so glad you guys took it the way you did and didn’t make fun of the situation (I’ve sadly seen a lot of people laugh during those moments) and don’t worry this is just the beginning of this arc the ride is far from being over 😉 !

Shaun V

THESE ARE THE EPISODES IVE BEEN WAITING FOR SINCE THE VERY START LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 😭😭😭 I use to PRAY for times like this

Nonos

Glad the geks and Carter appreciate how much these episodes change the tone and serious of the story. Definitely the best episodes of the show up until this point imo. More peak to come from this water 7 saga

E L

Crying my eyes out 😭

Rhettoric

These episodes are so painful. Carter nailed it in the outro when it comes to Usopp's perspective. That along with the fact that he sees parallels between himself and the Going Merry have all led to this moment. This arc and the next one cook so hard, you guys aren't ready

ahmad

Thanks for the early drop ♥️ Love when you guys have a long outro aswell, always so interesting to hear your full thoughts and predictions

greyxwaren

yall put down your essays THEY GOT IT it's so refreshing seeing reactors understand the core meaning of this fight especially from usopp's no.1 hating couch lol. i really need yall to binge it so badddd but i guess we'll have to wait for you guys to reach a breaking point yourselves

Vojee

Man I'm gonna miss Usopp being in the crew. It's unfortunate he wont be coming back either. Oda really overcooked on this one

Higgy8

This double drop is bitter sweet. On one hand we get peak sooner, but on the other we might have to wait a whole week for the next drop.

Niko

Thank you guys for the early drop, this moment hooked me so hard on one piece, still to this day when i watch it it makes me remember a feeling I can never forget, the whiplash of One Piece becoming an actually serious show with some top tier emotional story telling

Vojee

Usopp was my favorite on crew. We'll miss you Usopp!

ahmad

Glad that Carter brought up Zoro's dialogue at the end, it's really impactful and highlights how important his role is. He was also the only crew member to stay in the room with Luffy, while the others followed Usopp outside to check on him.

Nami Swannn

BTW, at the start of every volume there’s a page with character profiles (not just of the strawhats but of diff characters introduced so far) and after this chapter dropped, Usopp was no longer listed as a crew member…that’s how we knew Oda was not joking around 😭

greyxwaren

right hand man behavior yepyep

TrueCrisp

That's messed up 😭😭😭

Nick K

The ball is in your court geks. Be tormented, or watch more One Piece. Your move.

Nami Swannn

Like not even when Nami “left” back in Arlong Park did he do that…this time was truly different 😔

greyxwaren

THISSSS i never understood why people where fighting over their reaction when it was so realistic to even a character in the show

greyxwaren

sleep after a good sob always hits right

greyxwaren

cannon: mannn i feel so guilty 😔😭 mkay (usopp's biggest hater): no don't feel guilty 😀 dont be sad🙂‍↔️it's ok😘

Nami Swannn

Right ?? Everyone who was pressed about it knew what was to come and that they were reacting exactly like you’re meant to because even the characters themselves reacted as such 😭

Hegataro

I was looking forward SPECIFICALLY to these episodes any time Usopp got clowned on

oopppp

I can imagine their faces and sighs when that Soge-something song starts playing.

saDbo

I felt so bad when you guys dissed Usopp, knowing what happens next 😭😭 glad it still hit tho

E L

The outro discussion is too goated 🔥 worth the no tues upload

saDbo

Episode 235 is the definition of "this escalated quickly"

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

Love that Carter mentions appreciating Usopp's self awareness in the intro, because as goofy as he can be, he really is...and the fact that he compares himself to Merry, a wounded and sinking ship that'll take everyone down with her if left alone...pain. We all know that Luffy would never actually mean for Usopp to leave (and bless Sanji for cutting that sentence short) but to know very well where he was going with that, and to have to hear the thoughts that have haunted Usopp's own mind very nearly fall from one of his crew members lips (and his captains, of all people), knowing how he's already been feeling for the longest time - that would be so hard to bear and come back from. The fight was very much about Merry, but also sooo much more than her too. Of course as Usopp couldn't win, and of course he knows that...but at the same time he wants the right to stand on the same plane as his comrades, and prove to himself he can too 😭😭 Mckay is probably right in saying that Usopp could genuinely use a therapist, because in the end no one could beat him up harder than he does himself Merry's tears, and the final shots of Luffy and Usopp crying...💔💔💔

Daniella

Yayy thank you for the double drop Jack!! I’ll have to admit on a first watch i did not expect all the drama because of how happy-go-lucky this show usually is. Plus seeing Luffy cry absolutely broke my heart so i thought Usopp was a massive rat for choosing a ship over his friends (even though i still love the Merry), so i’m glad you guys understood it better than me lol. But as people explained about Usopp’s insecurities, plus he just got beaten up and had to be saved by the stronger members of the crew, on top of that Luffy talking about replacing the merry in a nonchalant tone didn’t help the situation. Gonna miss Usopp for sure :(

Mal

"I'm Kurapika right now" bro I'm dying 😂. Jack is now drowning in an indescribable emptiness 🎸

E L

his jokes always hits bruh

Nami Swannn

From my knowledge of what Oda’s said about his writing process, the one thing he actually planned was what the One Piece is and he writes around that. Things like Vivi being a princess, the existence of the Shichibukai etc, all came to him as he was writing without prior planning,,,he’s said that although he’ll normally have an rough draft of how he wants an arc to go, he gets so many ideas as he’s writing which keeps making the story even longer and longer 😭 like I wonder what the initial draft of Alabasta was if Vivi wasn’t meant to be a princess? All in all, who knows if he planned this out in advance or thought of it as the story was unfolding because it felt like the next natural step.

Ari

on point 💯

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

On a lighter note, Mckay cheesing over Usopp's defense of Merry in the begining was so funny 😂 and the 'Usopp, the disrespect, ok I'm sorry- I didn't mean it! I didn't mean it!' 'I feel so bad' character development,,LMAO - Jack was so real for the teary eyes, and love us a 20min outro 🫶🏻

AV

With the comedic relief now being gone, Luffy has to track down Buggy D Clown and have him join the crew.

2026-10-07 09:00 I remember my first time watching and couldn’t believe what was happening. I lost it when Luffy started crying 😭😭
2025-05-23 07:04

saDbo

Everyone in the comments has been cooking. Very good character analysis. To usopp's defence, I'll add that Luffy's flippant and casual attitude probably wasn't helping his case. I know he was just trying to hide the pain but I get why Usopp would feel like Luffy didn't care about leaving the merry from his attitude. Just a lot of miscommunication all around

Faris Alamin

I don't often cry at shows, but One Piece just gets to me somehow, I've had tears streaming down my face for the past 40 damn minutes.

Toska Water

McKay was my favorite in this video; my eyes would always return to him to see how he was reacting. And you know the geks are serious when they start to lean forward on the couch.

Aokiji Piece🧊

Episodes 235–236 hit like ice to the chest. The fight between Luffy and Usopp isn’t just painful. It’s real. Raw emotion—pride, frustration, love, and heartbreak colliding all at once. They say what they feel in that moment, even if it’s not what they want to be true. That’s what makes it so hard to watch. You can see how much they still care, even as the words cut deeper and deeper. And it’s strange, Aokiji had just been introduced not long before. One of those characters who stays still while everything else moves. Cold, calm, unreadable. And during this fight, he lingered in the back of my mind. Because in a way, we’re all Aokiji watching this. Silent. Still. Just standing there as everything we care about starts to crack. Not because we don’t care, but because we can’t stop it. That helplessness, that weight… it freezes you. This isn’t just a turning point for the Straw Hats. It’s one of those moments where One Piece stops being just adventure and becomes real. It’s about friendship, loss, and what it costs to move forward. And somehow, even though I knew it was coming, it still hit me like it was the first time. it made me really emotional 😓

Kite

stop making my goat Chopper cry 😭

Carlos

I usually skip these kinda episodes on rewatch but I’ll watch with yall🥲

Marcus D

Fuck, why did it suddenly start raining inside my apartment…

Marcus D

These episodes are actual Cinema

DeBaus

I think it makes the whole crew dynamic a bit more complex. Like the Geks were saying you don’t really think about it when seeing the crew interact, but the crew does respect Luffy as their captain. Heck I’m pretty sure even Usopp does, it’s just his own inferiority complex and all these events had gotten him to a point he’s emotionally struggling with. Like I think we kind of forget at times that Luffy quite literally saved every single one of his crew from either death or a bad life situation. As much as they are friends, they do hold respect for him and how he does things, which was emphasised quite a lot during the East Blue arc but we see pretty much throughout the show. No matter how much they quarrel, they’ll still go along with Luffy’s decision if he’s shown he really means it.

Pace

ONE PEAK for a REASON, and oh boy if these two episodes had that much effect holy shit whats to come.... we are yet to experience the peak of one piece...this is merely a teaser

AV

I skip long ring long land, why would you skip this peak?

AV

he's been killing it with the One Piece reactions. Wish we got Brig's reaction.

Kite

I have a theory that maybe the Merry has like a conscience or something, and maybe that ghost that fixed it was the ship itself (please don't confirm anything or give any hints)

Pace

Also to awnser Canon's question yes Oda did start with the ending in mind. Oda has said he already drew the final chapter a few times and has said its like peeling the layers for most of the series. You will notice this more as you go that the narrative is interconnected in very complex way. He also has this technique of planting seeds of plot points or characters and then decides later on how to weave them based on how future circumstances unravel and affect each other. He keeps all parts of the story moving at the same time which is very difficult to do. One Piece's world building and character development is, no joke, unmatched

Nami Swannn

He sympathized too much with Usopp his brain just had to let one out 😭

Carlos

Too sad but I also skip that and nothing happens

I agree with Carter! I love that Sanji stepped in when he realized Luffy was about to say something totally out of line (which we immediately saw Luffy regret lol). It really does show how well the crew balance each other out. They all show their loyalty and respect to their captain in diff ways that compliment their personality 🤌🏼

This was so worth the wait! Watching how it impacted them all… satisfying!

1999

In my opinion the anime does a way better job with this part than the manga. I remember when I read the manga Usopp just came off as an annoying crybaby during this conflict. But the anime does a good job of showing his perspective.

Shaun V

Geks, I'm so happy you guys are up to this, I've been waiting for these episodes since you started. Because this is the moment One Piece became my favourite show seemingly out of no where. It was like all of sudden, the show confronted me through a layer of depth I couldn't even see before, to confront how much I had actually become attached to these characters without knowing it. And I reacted so similarly to you guys, I couldn't believe it. I genuinely couldn't believe that this could ever happen in this show I had become so accustomed to. These episodes actually add a layer of complexity to the show that never drops away. It's such a deeply resonating and guttural feeling of uncomfortableness these eps give that it's so so surprising. The conflict, the tensions, the duel, Ussop leaving, Robin being missing, Nami's remark about the crew falling apart. It really feels like it. It's like this whole time you were taking something for granted that just got stripped away, and it's only now you realise how meaningful that peace from before really was. And these episodes are genuinely written beautifully. Oda drops a masterclass in dialogue and writing, where the conversation flows and sticks in the air, making you sit with the unnerving tension of it and really feel the weight. I can tell you guys felt it as well. How surprisingly uncomfortable it is, that kind of fidgety, real world feeling of wanting to reject what you're seeing. I remember being so surprised how actually uncomfortable the argument seen made me feel, it really felt like when you're watching a destructive, high tension argument between people you care about in real life. What I especially like is that even in this ever so deep Ussopp-Luffy conflict that's taking place, it doesn't feel like anyone else takes a back seat. All the crew members are still so vividly present and authentic, all displaying such a complex range of emotions and reactions to the situation that feel so real to their characters. And I could talk about the Ussop and Merry dyanmic here for days because it's so impactful and well established. This conflict touches a lot on the male ego in such a poetic way, the idea that our worth is established largely by what what we can provide to others. And Ussop has seen first hand time and time again, how helpless he is to do things for the crew. Everyone has their role, the cook, the navigator, the doctor, the swordsmen who can fight, the captain, but Ussop sees his contribution as the ship. We've seen him countless times praising it, criticizing people who break it, caring for it, trying to repair it. It's where Ussop feels like he can contribute to the crew. So when that's threatened, it's like his identity on the crew is being threatened. In that way he projects his own insecurities onto the idea of the Merry getting thrown away. It's a slap in the face to Ussop, and feels like a direct confirmation they don't need him. And this whole situation is heartbreaking but understanding. We see Luffy grimace as Ussopp tells him "Sorry to cause you trouble to the end" and like Luffy, we instinctively want to tell him he's wrong. To call out and rebuke that claim. Because we know he's so much more to the crew than just a burden, but we also get it because we ourselves have seen how weak he's been. I always love reactors watching this because it's so conflicting. We know he matters to the crew and almost can't believe how blinsighted in his own failures he's become, but it's also kind of true. Think of all the times you Geks, have criticized how incredibly weak he's been. We've seen it. This is the turning point where One Piece goes from a pretty good show to a phenomenal show, and there's so much more peak to come

Marcus D

I was about to get slightly annoyed with how much Aokiji you sandwiched in such a comment but it came back around haha. Great comment.

Marcus D

That’s part of the reason why I love one piece so much Nami Swann, the writing never feels forced, it’s almost always a build up of things that you may not always notice at first but can find if you go back and check. One piece may be goofy and unrealistic as a world and on a psychical scale but with it’s characters and human interactions/dynamics it feels just like real life.

John D. Acebes

Commenting at 32:43. This is not needed but hearing Oda did not cook and this feels random and almost like filler made me feel defensive and yappy. Merry and Usopp both joined in Syrup Village. Same adventures. Took equivalent amount of damage over time. But like Zoro said, humans grow above their pain but with ships it just accumulates. (Zoro being specifically the guy who grows through pain constantly). Luffy agrees and says ships are different than humans but Usopp says they're the same. Usopp sees Merry as his counterpart. If they were so ready to get rid of Merry here, what of him? His crashout was not just about Merry. He admits to being not enough just like how the Merry isnt enough. Next episode? Usopp holds his own against Luffy. The man who has taken down a god is being held back by this cowardly goof - who let'a not forget just got gangbanged - who didn't think he was strong enough to stay with the future pirate king. If that's not Oda cooking then I'm in the wrong kitchen

I said a while back, one of my fave eps of the show was in this arc. This is it. The dialogue and scene setting in 235-236 made me go from hanging on with One Piece to actually having faith that I would watch till the end. I can tolerate any flavor of mid if this is the type of payoff I can expect. Zoro consoling Luffy is one of my favorite scenes across any anime point blank period.

John D. Acebes

yeah I should do that more often. Assuming this get's covered. Ima leave it up for posterity and irony

Yeah but that was also when he thought the series was only gonna go for 5 years. Still interested in how he thinks or plans arcs they weren’t part of his original script

Pace

Jacks reaction got to me, cause we know how he feels ❤️‍🩹 honestly Jack is goated for enduring this journey waiting for them to really get a taste of peak

Marcus D

Is he still up there in your favourites? And who’s your favourite now if you don’t mind me asking?

Nope

Are you first watching along?

Nami Swannn

What if we all go switch our votes on the poll to “no” and cheat the system (jk…unless👀)

TrueCrisp

Usopp is still for sure in my favorites but I'd say my favorite is probably Sanji. Toei has done him really dirty though it's a shame

julia

What made Luffy vs. Usopp even better was that Luffy was so angry he blew up Franky’s house because they beat up Usopp and yet, Usopp kept saying he didn’t care about him or Merry. But I understand usopp feelings too. The way Luffy causally said let’s get a new ship made usopp thinks he didn’t care about merry.

Pace

Oda is a master at building up characters and making you fall in love with them and also hate them bwhaha. Tho fr when luffy is affected, u feel it so hard

Marcus D

Can we also just take a moment to commend the voice actors of all of the straw hats. Amazing, I was so immersed and felt the contextually realistic emotion from all of them, well done 👏👏👏

C2-H5-OH

It's important how everyone else might be acting on their feelings, but only Zoro and Sanji are keeping level headed and trying to keep the others level headed too.

Marcus D

100%, Jack has great self control despite the criticism he gets about talking too much 😂.

Marcus D

Ah nice to hear, and at this point in the series(2025 one piece), current Toei can never take down Sanji, he’s too goated

Zipzzty

Also, at this point you see the response to your own qualms from the last drop: How can this magical amazing world not be able to fix a ship? Well because it's an important storytelling tool. The inevitability of the Going Merry was the catalyst for the group infighting.

Yeppp. The last few episodes before this fight was the foundation that was needed otherwise these 2 episodes wouldn’t have cooked as hard. Because of those episodes, we couldn’t question luffy’s or Usopp’s convictions in this fight, we knew both of them cared about the crew and merry as much as the other did.

Zipzzty

That’s Fridays lil bud 💔💔

Peak Arc

Marcus D

Sanji and Zoro definitely held the crew together these 2 episodes. Even at this point luffy has a really solid crew😭🥲

One Of The Peakest One Piece Moments

Zipzzty

Usopp has abandonment issues first his dad left bro, then his mom died shortly after. The only friend he had around his age was also dying, just like his mother. In this fight, his insecurity was shown. He believes that because he’s weak, the crew will leave him just like they did with the Going Merry.

fyre

They’re abandoning their friend, Merry. If they can do that, why wouldn’t they leave Usopp too. Usopp can’t follow Luffy’s decision to abandon something just because it’s useless. Usopp had to prove his worth. It was a matter of principle for both Usopp and Luffy. The ship is falling apart with the entire crew. Anyway, I’m looking forward to the rest of the arc.

Milochocodrink (Zoro's wife)

I had to join and show my love. You guys are the best 🥹! And I love how much OP has been growing on McKay 💖 I have been vibing with him since Skypeia (Brig is missed 🥲) Also! I just had a small suggestion. I think the YT big drops are great, but for big moments (i.e. skypeia backstory & this drop), it might be good to do separate uploads. Some YT viewers will tune into just their 'favorite moments'-- Couldn't be me, I drink your OP uploads like im mr.3 after Croco sucked me dry 🫡-- so it might help the view counts inflate for those videos (my own thoughts on YT algorithm). Either ways, I love seeing you guys do well and enjoying content!

Zipzzty

YOU cooked with the youtube shorts suggestion that’s so true

Murasaki

I don’t think so. SPOILER I think Oda made the decision that they need a new ship for the journey, that’s the direction, not just for the crew conflict. This crew beef is more like the consequence of Merry being unfixable.

julia

ikr there’s no right or wrong in this situation , both of their feelings are valid!

Marcus D

Oda is foul for the current latest anime episode stretch though let’s be honest, it’s so hard to watch😂. (The writing is amazing it’s just so emotionally stirring)

Marcus D

“Omoi…”

ethan tanner

This feels like the first time in the story so far where luffy actually had to act as a captain normally it just seems like the crew is just going along with his whims and things end up working out but these episodes he has had to make very difficult and possibly permanent decisions and I love how zoro out of everyone seems to respect the role of captain and luffy's decisions

T

A better translation for Luffy's line at 37:35 is "This is heavy." He's not just saying it's tough, he's feeling the burden of a captain for the first time, because he was always just their friend. He's literally almost died before fighting against powerful villains yet this was still the most painful fight he had to go through. I hate seeing Luffy cry

yuh jav

EVEN MORE LORE AND PEAK AFTER THIS

Marcus D

Exactly, it’s so good.

wanira 11

😮 I did not expect this coming out now

wanira 11

Yep, this is truly the moment for me when One Piece went from really good to great. I could write a whole essay from this fight alone. The drastic shift in tone was what surprised me most when I watched it the first time. One Piece already had plenty of emotional and serious moments but this fight feels so real and visceral and I didn't see it coming at all. I didn't know this show had the capability for having such a serious tone shift and it left me absolutely speechless. There are almost no jokes in these episodes because the focus is completely on this conflict, which is so well written. You can completely understand both sides even if you don't agree with Ussop or Luffy. Ussop obviously loves the ship and doesn't want to leave her behind but that is not the heart of the issue. The main root of this conflict is Ussop feeling insecure and undeserving of being a part of the crew. He is afraid they will leave him behind just like the Merry if he can't keep up with them anymore. Not understanding that the strawhats want him there because they love him and he is a part of their family regardless of his capabilities. So he decides to self sabotage and leave them before they can leave him. Luffy on the other hand feels he has to step up and be the captain, by making the hard decisons. He doesn't understand Ussop's turmoil and feels disrespected as a captain. But he still has a really hard time with Ussop leaving because in the end he still was one of Luffy's best friends. That's why this episode hurts so much, it feels like a family breaking apart. I also love Zoro's line at the end: "If you waver, who can we trust." it encapsulates one of the major themes in this arc: The burden of a captain. Sorry for the long ramble guys, I just love this moment so much.

Mahti

They wouldn't have left Ussop unless like Merry he was physically unable to go keep going. Ussop was the only one thinking he's not good enough. He didn't have to prove anything other than for himself.

Pudding

3:34 bruh chopper is killing me, just standing there like 😀 no thoughts behind those eyes😂

JeanJean

They ain't ready

Marcus D

Yeah he literally only said one word, “omoi” which means heavy

T

Yeah I wish the translations could carry the same weight as the original, but it really doesn't have the same vibe. The way Luffy just drops that word and Zoro understands him and says that's what it means to be captain... so good.

yuh jav

i need one piece week badly😭

KrispyKenny

I can already tell this reaction gonna be goated can't wait to have breakfast salted with my tears THANKS FOR EARLY DROP JAKE

KrispyKenny

McKay 2 drops ago was bar for bar with usopp this ep btw 😂

Luffers

That walk up to Franky House and fight is NOT peak Jack. I'm with Carter, what even is "peak" anymore? Same with GOAT. Way over used. Not just here, everywhere. I wouldn't even think to rank that scene.

this whole time the geks were hating on usopp they were unknowingly voicing his biggest insecurities😪yeah mckay, usopp probably ranked himself lower than the merry too

if you notice Zoro's attitude.. He never left Luffy's side. When Nami, Sanji and Chopper went to chase for Yussop, he stayed behind with Luffy and only went out after the captain went out. What a vice captain..

Luffers

Usopp will find a devil fruit but he'll feed it to the Merry. If a gun can eat a devil fruit, I'm sure a ship can!

Pudding

Ughhh, I just quickly skipped through some of the next episodes from this arc on Crunchyroll to remember what will happen, and it's so good y'all😭 I love W7. So happy I can revisit these episodes with you guys, I watched all this as a kid/young teen so I definitely feel a lot more depth this time. I'm gaining a newfound appreciation for One Piece, even tho it does have its frustrating moments haha

Keanu

I don't understand how you guys are skipping a drop on Tuesday, surely after seeing these eps you are dying to know what happens next!

Marcus D

Ey, he cheered him on this episode, he stayed consistent 😂

wanira 11

Yes the writing just makes this fight hit so much, as I said before: It's not about fighting in one piece, but about why they are fighting.

Luffers

Great reaction! Thanks for the early drop!

wanira 11

Actual one peak 💥

JMP

Yeah true, I feel the respect that Usopp shows Luffy though is more a respect of a friend than a captain. Although he does know Luffy is captain he never truly acknowledges it like people like Zoro. He's had a running gag from the start of being the captain/vice-captain of the crew and this stems from him not wanting to acknowledge that he is beneath someone he sees as a friend. And although Luffy has made hard decisions before this is definitely the hardest and the most unilateral captain decision he's made which emphasises his role of captain which adds another layer of why Usopp finds the whole convo hard to accept as he can't not acknowledge Luffy as captain anymore and has to face his insecurity.

fyre

Yes. Proving it to himself is more than enough reason. His whole dream is to be a brave warrior of the sea. If he can’t stand up for himself and his cherished ship, gifted by his close friend, how can he possibly hope to achieve his dream. Just because he’s proving a point to Luffy doesn’t mean he can’t prove a point to himself too. Also, Luffy was literally about to tell Usopp to leave the crew before Sanji kicked him in the face and told him to shut up. Sure, Usopp thinks he’s not good enough, but the captain he’s dedicated his life to was about to tell him that too. Don’t pretend Usopp got in this position all by himself.

KrispyKenny

I kinda want some bets next intro on who joins the crew next

Mahti

Luffy said he can leave if he doesn't like the decision Luffy made about the ship, Ussops skills, strength or usefulness had nothing to do with it. Only thing Luffy ever had a problem with was being disrespected as a captain and even after that he felt bad about what he said. Sure Luffy made a mistake blurting that out but Ussop didn't have to prove him anything.

Jack

Well it was peak straw hat mentality to me

Kayanolive

I cried so badly lmao 😭 liking usopp made this so much worse cause like no way that just happened

Nanami's Wife

WE ALL CRYING 💔😭 These two episodes never fail to make me cry. Especially when Luffy voiced cracked when telling Zoro "This is really tough" and then it shows Luffy crying. Kid you not, that scene of Luffy holding his hat down and crying ALWAYS MAKES ME SOB 😭😭😭 Luffy knew he had to step up and be a captain. Zoro's response to him was so good too and emotional to hear. I love Zoro's loyalty to Luffy, a true vice captain. I also love how Sanji represents the heart while Zoro represents the mind in this arc. They're both trying to keep the crew together and steady. The crew is at their lowest point: Usopp leaving, the Merry can’t be fixed, and Robin's missing. Usopp's character development is so good. Usopp is in pain, he’s humiliated, and he’s been struggling with his sense of self-worth his whole life. Human moments like these are what make One Piece such an incredible story. Usopp sees the Merry as a reflection of himself. If Luffy is willing to abandon the ship, then in Usopp's eyes, he could abandon him as well. He's not as strong as everyone, so he's afraid Luffy will simply choose to leave him behind just like he is doing to the ship. This is due to Usopp's abandonment issues. His dad left him as a kid and his mom shortly died after. He didn't have anyone else but himself growing up and his lies help filled that void. The three little kids and Kaya both relied on Usopp, but Usopp never had someone that he relied on. It breaks my heart having to see Luffy and him fight. Usopp is Luffy's best friend, there's nothing worse than a friendship breakup💔 I love how we're always seeing how emotionally involved our cast is. It makes episodes like these hit some much harder. God, I love this show man

“Run it right now no questions asked” Now you know how we feel Cannon

Rayanh Shequinah Nansha

I already loved Luffy, but this is when he became my favorite MC of all mangas and animes I’d ever read or watched, and when I loved Zoro even more as his number 2. I love the other Straw Hats of course, but Zoro’s unwavering loyalty is just something I completely vibe with. My feelings for Usopp have always been mild though, so the new layer to his character was welcomed for sure. And I too was so confused about where the story would go from that point, but it just gets better. This arc isn’t in my top 10 for nothing. (The saga is in my top 5 though).

fyre

I don’t think Luffy has ever cared about being disrespected as a captain. Zoro cares more about that than he does. Luffy only had a problem with Usopp attacking his character. Everyone, especially Usopp, respects Luffy. You might say Usopp didn’t have to prove anything from an audience’s perspective but as I said before, from Usopp’s perspective, his own captain is saying he isn’t wanted. Whether Luffy meant it or not doesn’t change how Usopp feels about it.

Nick

You guys can officially now watch the opening for this arc!

Marcus D

I don’t think the browser version of Patreon, at least on IOS hides these sorts of things, so I’d just delete it to not risk it

Mahti

I agree that from Ussops perspective it may seem like that but it's all in his head since he's the only one thinking so

fyre

well clearly it’s not all in his head when his captain is saying he should leave the crew

Dasha

"some happy freaking midcards after all this, are we serious right now?" I could totally feel that, Cannon my biggest issue with one piece is not the pacing, it's these freaking midcards with this cheerful music that try to keep my breakdown at bay every time it gets emotional

Mahti

Leave the crew If he doesn't like the way Luffy operates, not leave the crew because he's not good enough

Ante

Very Nami of you haha

fyre

both are true for Usopp. does that make him justified or unjustified? even Luffy admitted he shouldn’t have operated that way.

Migge

Oda: "You like your lighthearted pirate fantasy adventure show with characters that have been developed over hundreds of chapters? How about I turn it into a depressing drama show with the closest friends fighting over realistic things?"

Migge

The argument and fight between Luffy and Usopp is one of the best written dialogues in any form of media ever. It's real and rough and the contestants make mistakes just like real people would and react to the others words realistically. It feels like a real fight between real friends and we've had such a long time with both of them that we get their character and the meaning behind their arguments. It's really a masterpiece of long term character writing, for me at least.

Dasha

Ok I regret looking ahead at the next episodes on Crunchyroll... it's so peak. We need One Piece week ASAP. But at the same time I don’t want you to rush or try to make you change your plans. My only hope is that One Piece week is part of your plans either next week or the one after. I swear, it’s never been this hard for me to wait for reactions. You’ve finally gotten a real taste of One Piece at its best, and now I just NEED you to experience everything that’s still to come. I'm dying to hear "THIS IS THE BEST SHOW I EVER WATCHED" from at least one of you (even though I get that AOT is a tough act to follow, especially since it was your first anime, so I don't set my expectations high) Anyway, at least it’s my moving week, so I’ll have plenty to keep me busy. I should be fine until the next drop (I should be, right??..) 😅

Literally cried watching this for the second time. Chopper and luffy crying always gets to me. This isn’t even the most emotional part for me just you guys wait.

jrnoodles

Thanks Geks! This is were I dislike Ussop more in this arc.

beannie

jack tearing up was so real, i could never not cry watching these eps, this is one of the best conflicts in the show. It hurts like fkin hell seeing usopp lie to himself all the time cause he can’t confront reality, him feeling like he’s never strong enough to protect his loved ones breaks my heart. and luffy realizing he failed as a captain… that is peak devastation for me, i literally can’t blame a 17 year old for being immature, but when zoro hits us with that bomb at the end of 236, I realized how much growing he has to do. the writing here makes you realize how invested you actually are in these characters, all the personalities of the straw hats are so rich and grounded to the way they're constructed, sanji is a great example of that and i love that you guys gave him his flowers for it i love how invested you guys were in these, this is probably my favorite discussion from op so far! i'm so excited for what's coming, i would love to know your rankings of the straw hats after this!! or at least your top 3

Nash

It’s gonna be so tough bc from this arc onwards it’s just peak after peak. Oda was COOKING

Mauricio.

Rewatching this again. The gasp that came out Carter when luffy almost said that ussop should leave the crew….This is what put One piece in a league of its own, yes it can be goofy sometimes, but the way Oda can create moments like this, like literally, two brothers-best friends having a discussion that starts to escalate so quickly that suddenly things get out of control. That’s life itself. Seeing my captain crying gets me everytime 😭. Thanks Geks for appreciate this moment exaxtly for what it was, this is the peak that we were waiting for you to see, and trust us, there’s plenty more to come. For now we’ll wait for thursday to continue this journey and as Luffy would say: Shukkou da!! Into the seas ahead 💖.

Sasha Ruple

So glad I hopped on the patreon for this arc

Sandi uchiha

I think they already watched ahead so it doesn’t matter??

This isn’t even why water 7 is goated. We haven’t reached peak yet

Still one of my top fights in anime. Thanks for the early drop

Drakon

i really hate seeing luffy sad

Marcus

ye these eps hat quite a bit of budget

zoro's enma

Thank you guys for this early drop, your hard work is really appreciated. Rewatching these eps with y'all I actually cried again and this is coming from someone who was not a fan of usopp from the beginning which is why I Always understood u guys dislike for him in the beginning. The more I watched the show he obviously grew on me and I really love him now and understand him a lot more and these were the eps that set the tone for that. I truly love this arc so much like id go as far as to say I have a weird emotional attachment to it due to the many different emotions it awakens within me, these eps are great but you guys haven't even witnessed why I am so attached and obsessed with this arc yet, its all so real, so raw, not only did I relate to the characters on a very realistic level but pains a picture of the bigger issue that keeps boiling in the surface of the story (and still is in the story might I add). I love this arc so much bc it's really what OP is about, if I were to ever recommend only one arc to someone who did not like OP it would be this arc. I cannot wait to witness some of my favorite eps in this arc with you guys bc I love your analysis and understanding of stories and I think you will really really ENJOY the storytelling in this arc.

So many paths and routes and mysterious being brought up. The adventure be adventuring.

I'm ready for One Piece week after this drop. I want them to binge through this asap. Jack I was fully with you there in the emotions I was also not ready to see that again.

Can you drop all of aot and paywall it. I just can't wait any more

studiogek

Not gonna lie one piece nation, i had been feeling for awhile that the show had become slightly predictable and I felt too comfortable in the rhythm of the show which led to me feeling a bit more complacent while watching, but THIS EPISODE COMPLETELY FLIPPED IT. Literally can’t wait to see where it goes from here

I thought the same thing, but that's why Joel Embiid exists

Welcome to Goda boys. Just the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended)

Usopp Avengers Level Threat got me good😭💀

I feel like a lot of people felt this way too. But as we progressed further into the story we all had our moments of realization of how unpredictable this journey could be.

Losing brig, losing usopp, losing robin 💔💔 Wish brig could see these

We did kinda hint to you guys to try and enjoy Long Ring etc for what it is bc silly time was ending shortly 😭 not to say it will never be again but like McKay was saying it sends you to the depths pretty quickly

Jasmin☆

the outros are one of the best parts to these eps cant wait for the next ones it’s about to get crazier 😭

Sasha Ruple

Trying so hard to stay calm and collected but I'm literally SO HYPE for you guys to keep watching

julia

You guys did a good job avoiding the spoilers👏 One piece is one of those shows where just when you think you know how it’s going to go, it surprises you with something unexpected!

Migge

The journey so far has been rather easy for the whole crew. Water 7 is kind of a turning point where the crews natural ability starts to meet its limit. The only one that's been training and actually trying to get stronger during the first 200+ episodes has been Zoro. Water 7 is the end of the completely happy go lucky pirate adventure with friends, which is needed to establish the main characters, and the start of something a bit more complex.

beannie

I could tell Carter, I’m so glad you got the excitement back!! I had a lot of moments like that in my first watch too so it’s very valid, I hope yall keep it real always, speak your truth!!

Mitch

So happy you were able to get this far while avoiding spoilers. Also that’s why everyone’s been hyping water 7, it’s the first real look into the peak of odas writing and def shows a huge tonal shift for the series.

wadad sk

I love how Oda wrote this whole conflict like we have seen Ussop time and time again repair Merry and we know he’s the weakest strawhat so for Luffy to say he’s abandoning the ship, Ussops feeling like well if Merrys gone because merry can’t sail anymore then what’s going to happen to him who’s one of the weakest members who can’t even guard some money without getting beaten up and getting saved all the time by others. He feels like he’s gonna be next to be abandoned after Merry. I feel so bad for him because it’s so realistic, imagine being surrounded by a crew so highly capable in their own ways and feeling like you’re not enough to be apart of this group, he felt like this for so long and I guess this thing with Merry was the final straw. Also Luffy is one the most emotionally intelligent characters for me. We don’t really notice it cuz he’s so goofy but we’ve already seen him show his emotional intelligence multiple times. Here, and 2 other examples I can think of are during Arlong park, he waited till Nami herself asked him to save her because he knew she wouldn’t accept his help otherwise and she has to be the one to ask him herself then another time when he punched Vivi cuz Vivi was only putting her life on the line and wasn’t relying on the crew and he noticed that. He also has more moments in the future but yea he’s such a great character, I love him so much.

Sun

its the next day, can confirm 😂

Shaun V

I know that feeling exactly Carter haha, changed my entire perspective on the show from this point forwards.

Shaun V

My thoughts exactly, know he would have loved this tonal shift. I wonder if Brig watches these vids, and if he does I hope he comments his thoughts one time

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

ngl u could really tell, but i love that u can say as much and love that this is another turning point for u 🫶🏻

Ante

@Keanu For what its worth, I was joking with you too.

Wyvern

I have to say I feel like Ussop hasn't been as connected to the Merry as I remember him being the first time I watched One Piece. Maybe its because they used one pace for parts of it, but I feel like the deep connection that Ussop has with the merry has been lost a bit, especially in Skypia with the scene with the "mystery person" who fixed up the ship, I remember that scene being made to feel more important than it felt this time around. And I feel like one pace may have cut out some of those moments of the in-between island parts where they were just on the ship when Ussop was likely fixing the Merry in the background. But maybe my memory has just faded since it has been a few years since I watched this part of the show.

Dasha

Luffy's emotional intelligence is unreal. He always understands when someone is in pain, scared, or conflicted, even if they say nothing. He doesn’t need long explanations or backstories, he just feels it. He has zero tolerance for emotional injustice, so nothing enrages Luffy more than seeing someone’s spirit being crushed, someone suffering alone, or someone being forced to suppress their identity or feelings. What I love most about Luffy is that he doesn’t recruit people for their strength, brains, or usefulness - he chooses them for who they truly are. His real superpower isn’t fighting, it’s understanding (feeling) people on a deeper level. Number 1 MC forever❤️

farkzzy

it’s starting to hit me now that I have to wait til thursday

snoobcat

Stop it bro..don’t remind me of that we can only blame ourselves now 😭😭

Chris Schwirz

The formula doesn’t change too often. Go to island, make friends, fight bad guy, save island. But oda does a perfect job of throwing these curveballs every once and a while to keep you completely engaged

Wyvern

Yall suck man, I voted for it to be on Tuesday because I knew this would happen. What am I going to do for the next 6 days? I blame you.

farkzzy

that post poll clarity 😪

Albin Limani

For as good as Water 7 is in itself, I think the switchup on the tone and predictability elevates it a lot.

Wyvern

I'm over here crying with Jack.

Promanex(Alex)

Ngl I thought you guys were all gonna support Luffy and disregard Usopp’s feelings. But that’s the charm of these group reactions, this was an unexpected very deep analysis of why Luffy and Usopp’s actions makes sense and why it felt so real. Probably hits even more since you guys are watching it as a group. This is the only reaction you can get from a group watcher and is exactly what I am looking for through these videos. Thank you for the reaction, phenomenal reactions and post discussions!👏👍

Honestly this is not even a bad idea!! @carter please look into everyone just having a clip! I also often miss what Jack says because hes pretty soft spoken 🥲

GBuckets

they're mature enough to really appreciate this masterpiece of a scene. I've met so many people who watched this and just said that Ussop is annoying and stupid. This was probably the rawest fight I've ever seen on tv, the emotions on these two episodes are insane

GBuckets

fr, this came from the biggest usopp hater too. Not alot of show can change people's opinions in one scene

Betty H

It's okay Jack, we're crying over here too.

GBuckets

for sure he is. He probably doesn't watch every drop but he is for sure watching the big ones like naruto and one piece

GBuckets

ok let's be real, no it's not. There are many mid arcs that definitely need to be watched on one pace

Promanex(Alex)

Agreed! I revisited these two episodes in different times of my life when I was 14 and when I was 24. And both times hits just as hard if not harder and the second time gave me new perspectives and thoughts about the scene. Crazy stuff!

Ante

I mean, that gas plus bomb combo was definitely attempted murder lol. Oda had to turn physics off right there to keep the fight going.

Clay

8 eps in and robin gone, money gone, usopp gone and merry fcked... lets gooo water 7

GBuckets

same, the last time I watched this scene I was 16, I think. Now I'm in my mid 20s and I have really grown to appreciate this scene much more.

GBuckets

The worst part of the arc is that Brig is gone. Bad writing decision from Oda.

Cannon and McKay 1v1 duel now we need it!?!

studiogek

😂 neither tbh I was trying to cover their eyes but you know what i decide that its me seeing FREEDOM

Ryker

oda foreshadowed this

Ryker

all the geks one piece character development needs to be studied especially mckay

wanira 11

His backstory broke me man, I had to pay homage to him <3

Sasha Ruple

I don't know that it's my #1 favorite arc in One Piece...but it's just about as close to a perfect arc as you can get

Marcus D

It was the final look at luffy from Nami while crying and luffy crying that did it for me, then seeing usopp crying prolonged my watery eyes 😭

Marcus D

Yeah exactly, I like a few other arcs more than this one because they have and focus on others things I personally just enjoy more as a person but it’s undeniable that this is a very very very well written arc.

Marcus D

🤣🤦‍♂️

Marcus D

Chris Schwirz, you shouldn’t be saying that tbh. That’s going too far with the expectation setting. Let them figure out potential patterns themselves please.

EmlovesOP

I feel jack pain why am I so depressed rn lol. I love the post discussion, these are the moments oda does not let us breathe. Also this one is hard because it's like your friends fighting and u understand them both and just want it to end

Marcus D

Brig made a tik Tok and he was watching episode 238 or 239 and he said that water 7 was pretty good so far. Which that was right after this fight, so I assume a lot of his praise comes from these episodes.

EmlovesOP

can we all agree to change our pfp when this happens

aubrey

water 7 saga also never fails to make me cry i understand u jacketh </333

aubrey

WATER 7 SAGA YOU WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS

Adeeb Alothman

ok we need you guys to drop tuesday and cancel thursday lol

Marcus D

@EmlovesOP Yes

Marcus D

Then do Thursday and cancel the Tuesday after instead 🙂‍↕️

Marcus D

Better yet just defer next Tuesday’s break to the final reaction drop of the series 🙂

Marcus D

I was just thinking this at the same time you wrote that lol. You can’t look away but you want it to stop.

Mr. John Kagurabachi

Props to jack for not hindsighting this and many more events to come hahaha

Mr. John Kagurabachi

The lion patiently waits until Thursday because he honors his words.

cozo

they haven't seen anything yet and w7 isn't even top 5 for me

Keiji

Ok I regret voting to cancel Tuesday. It’ll be a long wait. Haha

Juicy D. jaloomba

“I’m gonna go see how fast my car can go on the freeway” …….you alright McKay? 🙁

Marcus D

Don’t worry McKay, the look of the show stays like this for a while.

Mr. John Kagurabachi

Lowkey the change in appearance is so gradual. If you look back to east blue, it’s already massively different.

Ante

Cannon @ 53:12: *Regretting the Usopp hate* McKay: This is what it means to be a hater, isn't it? Don't lose yourself. If you waver, who can we trust!

SomeoneElse

Loving these reactions but god dayum I can't wait for these guys to get to Sabaody

Marcus D

“Those who waver, ARE WEAK”. We knew what we signed up for, stay strong soldier.

Dasha

Lmao I do not support this kind of requests but this one is hilarious

Nonos

Brooo fr, I just don’t wanna hype it up too much cuz I feel like it’s always the arc that first time watchers get suprised by how good it is cuz fans talk about the others😂

Aegean

Depressed Piece

Pudding

Frrr I love that arc, it's so different and serious

TrueCrisp

He's probably in wano by now tbh

E L

mckay is so real for that

Dasha

Nonos, that was me lol. I never heard about Sabaody the first time I watched. But Sabaody has the highest density of peak moments in the whole series imo. Also Marineford isn’t in my top 3 probably only because the hype around it was unreal. Everyone talked about it so much that my expectations ended up somewhere past the moon

JeanJean

Bruh is hyped about another arc when we're in one of the top 3 right now. It's as if a kid looked forward to christmass on his birthday. learn to enjoy the present bro 😂

JeanJean

I don't regret it but I still want to have it on tuesday. I just want more man.

JeanJean

Yeah he quit right before one of the best arcs, it's such a shame honestly.

Dounia

That’s like my 6th time watching your reaction… I may have a problem 😭😭

fia

Why would jack do this

fia

Episode 235 is one of my favorites and what fully sold me into one piece. The first time I watched it felt like I was actually in the room with them, it felt way too realistic. Usopp's insecurities and his fear of being left behind hit way too hard

Marcus D

Holy god, you cooked

Ninaly

the best episodes so far got your best outro so far, you guys made so many good points ahead of all the insight in the comments. i think its great you guys were ussopp haters, many people are - that's the whole point of writing him this way! oda made him controversial because the most painful insecurities are the ones with a seed of truth in them. this is why its important to dunk on hindsight merchants and why one of my favourite traits of the couch is their honest emotions and evaluations.

Promanex(Alex)

This hurts way more with Usopp because he is Luffy’s best friend. Throughout the show you can always see them fooling around and having a great time. He match Luffy’s goofy vibe the best, thats why it’s so tough for Luffy. Also I think Luffy made the decision because of how Iceberg question his responsibility as a captain with this quote “ I can’t believe you are the captain, are you going to be satisfied until your ship and your crew mates sink into the ocean?” This made Luffy reconsider and why Luffy had to make the hard decision and act like captain and consider the whole situation for the whole crew instead of just for Usopp. In the beginning when Luffy first heard Merry could no longer be fixed, he said the same thing Usopp said during their fight not giving up on Merry until the very end. He was thinking more for his friends but when he made the decision he was thinking more like a captain.

greyxwaren

carlie and ange and queenblaze spoiled me in their OP reactions 4 episodes a week seem so few 😭

Mauricio.

That’s so true! I’m also watching peak with Haylo & kiss, and the girls are so invested that blew my mind when I notice that they were reading the SBS and other stuff. So yes, 4 eps feels like an eternity 😭.

Mauricio.

You’re not alone hahaha. I even did my 40 min treadmill watching these eps. I was fighting my tears (again) while trying to breathe to survive 😂.

Can’t touch this Gold

Exactly. My biggest gripe is when people whine when someone doesn't react the way they want them to. It's all because they don't see the bigger picture, and even with that ignored, some people just have differing opinions. Isn't that more entertaining anyways? Some things are more exciting when it's raw and unfiltered. That's the point of paying to watch this. You are left wondering how somebody will react to a certain scene. They may even notice things you didn't on first glance.

Mr. John Kagurabachi

Nah he posted a video on TikTok he’s like 20 episodes ahead of them as of 3 weeks ago

april 🍏

the gasps when Luffy just about told Usopp to get off his crew.. so real. Great reaction and discussion, guys.

greyxwaren

is it thursday yet? 🥹

Mauricio.

Wake me up when D One Peak week begins, I can't deal with this waiting...

Jawid

We need a one piece binge

shlumlord

The rewatch always cooks 😭😭😭

shlumlord

Loved the reaction and discussion

JD Galbraith

I mean…Luffy is the Captain

Aokiji Piece🧊

I know that when One Pace has been mentioned before by the Geks, it’s led to a bunch of debates in the comments. That’s not my goal here. I just want to point something out based on what Cannon said after the reaction to episode 236. He said he was glad they didn’t use One Pace for this episode — I totally get the concern behind that but the thing is, the way Toei handled this episode was genuinely strong. It’s one of those times where the anime stuck really close to the manga. The direction, the emotion, the pacing — everything just hit. And that’s why One Pace didn’t really need to change anything here. One Pace never cuts content from the manga itself. And since this particular episode followed the manga so closely, there wasn’t really anything to cut. I’m not saying the One Pace episode is 100% exactly the same — I just mean the difference is barely noticeable, probably less than 1%. So you guys don’t need to feel worried about future top-tier arcs being cut down either, because when the original anime follows the manga well and gets the pacing right, One Pace doesn’t really need to touch it. So it’s basically the same as the original in this episode.

KDavey

rewatching this is so painful omg it hits so hard

desolate leng

I mean, if you’d one paced it you would only have missed the disruptive midcards (which were kind of badly placed here), the recaps, and the double flashbacks. It’s not as if they ever cut actual canon content. But the long outro discussion was so good, how you’re thinking about all that’s going on. Definitely huge props to Jack for keeping a straight face up until now (and just imagine what he’s still keeping back, lol). There are also some serious problems with the translation here. The use of ”nakama” is specifically about being part of the CREW, and translating it as ”friends” or ”gang” creates the wrong impression. And messes up the theme. Usopp is saying he doesn’t want Chopper’s help because he’s *not one of them* any more, it’s not about being ”friends” or not. It’s that they no longer belong together. And I don’t think this was totally unexpected, if you look back at Long Ring Long Land. Yeah, I mean it: that arc is doing three very important things, which is highlighting the loss of crew members, the role of the captain (and Usopp has never really accepted Luffy as captain, not seriously), and starting to look at Usopp’s insecurity. The major part of it was his total inability to act when facing Aokiji, but I also think that it’s no coincidence that Usopp took part in the only game they lost. It’s just like Carter says: it’s surprising and shocking, but looking back you can see why it happened, what lead up to it. Also, take a real good look at Zoro in these episodes. And Zoro’s and Luffy’s interactions. Zoro knows exactly what Luffy is thinking and why, and IMO this is the arc where his position as Luffy’s main support/right hand man/inofficial second in command becomes more explicit. Like when he validates Luffy’s choices at the end of the duel, and also warns him about wavering. Usopp, meanwhile, lacks trust in Luffy as his captain. I think that the moment where Luffy stops Nami from intervening and says that changing ships is his decision, that this is what’s going to happen, Luffy sees it too, and asserts his position. McKay really hits the nail on the head: Luffy expects to be obeyed when he makes decisions as a captain. He’ll isten to the crew, and he doesn’t want them to treat him with any sort of reverence, but he IS the captain.

Juicy D. jaloomba

Please McKay, we already lost brig, we don’t wanna lose you too 🥺

desolate leng

I think one problem is that the anime stretches the story out too much, which makes it feel as if things stagnate a bit. It would have been even worse if you hadn't watched Skypiea in one pace, but all the arcs have this problem. For reference, if you'd watched these episodes in one pace, they would have been practically the same (mostly they just cut some recaps). Most of the filler is in the second half of the arc instead of spread evenly.

desolate leng

I think it's more akin to something like impostor syndrome rather than straight up abandonment issues. Like we see here, he's pretty damn good in a fight when he is determined, but he always questions himself, always thinks he's useless because he can't do what the strongest people in the crew can. Not valuing what he actually can do. Yeah, he feels he might be cast off if he doesn't live up to his imaginary expectations, but his main fear isn't really about being alone. It's more about what any group he's part of think of him.

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

@desolate Definitely this too! I think its kind of a mixture of the two/the evolution of imposter syndrome into abandonment issues because he feels being an 'imposter' so strongly, that the inevitable conclusion is him being abandoned kinda thing

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

On a normal person foresureee lmao - but tbf even in the episode Usopps there like,,yeah, ik damn well that's not near enough to take you out

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

Mans in peak without us 😫😫 love that hes binge watching it more like he wanted now though, and hes continued the op journey 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

Very happy to be here rn, but THAT moment in sabaody is absolutely one I've been waiting to watch the build up for since the begining 👁️

ahmad

💯💯

desolate leng

I wouldn't class anyone in the crew as Luffy's best friend, because I think they all are. He has different vibes with all of them, that's true, but I'm thinking about what Oda said in one of the SBS sections of the manga: it's Usopp who drags Luffy into goofing off rather than the other way around. Agreed about Luffy's reaction to Iceberg, that it made Luffy think more realistically about the situation. The image of Luffy standing far off from the others (on top of the ruins of Franky House) in his crew at the moment of decision and the moment of silent contemplation emphasizes his position as captain too.

Kayanolive

I got jumped at for saying that last time but i agree!

Nanami's Wife

Yall .... it just came to me that were not getting an upload tmr 😂

Wyvern

Dude I was excited that I would be able to watch some more tomorrow but then I remembered that you bozos voted for instant gratification and now I have to wait for Thursday.

fia

you could've just waited until tomorrow to watch it, man. you have just as much lack of self control as the rest of us. we shall now suffer the consequences of our actions together

fia

also consider that usopp has seen luffy fighting tooth and nail for his friends over and over again. and now he's giving up on the merry just like that?

N P

My newest cope is that they're gonna spoil us OP fans by sneakily dropping the next episodes tomorrow. Yes, i do refuse to take responsibility for my actions

castles in the air

I apologize One Piece. I wasn't familiar with your game.

Wyvern

I suppose you are right about that. But how could I not watch it when its at such a good spot and its just sitting there staring at me? Lol I see now why everyone voted yes.

desolate leng

@wyvern, one thing that happens a lot is also that the fandom keeps repeating things that SEEMS true, while not having actually reread or rewatched the story in a long time. Someone said something that sounded good once, and fans echoes it back to each other without checking the source material and before you know it everyone thinks it's canon. And this goes for all fandoms, it's not particular to One Piece. It's more pronounced in long series, though. It's just really hard to not watch with confirmation bias when you've been into something for a long time. I try, but I have my opinions and interpretations too that I think are correct. But are they really? As for Usopp, I don't think the main point is that he's attached to the Merry more than anyone else, not really (and they're all extremely attached to her). It's how he sees himself in the ship in this moment: if not able to fill your role, you're abandoned. Not that any of the other Strawhats thinks this, of course, but it's Usopp's hangup. He has a severe case of impostor syndrome and a low opinion of his own worth as a person. Luffy didn't ask him to join because he thought Usopp would be a strong fighter or a shipwright. He asked Usopp to join because he liked him as a person, and I think Usopp has a hard time believing that.

EmlovesOP

One piece getting crazy it’s gonna be harder and harder to avoid the spoilers when it’s cranking up like this

Luffers

From this point on, One Piece is straight gas for like 200+ episodes. Just all gas, no brakes. I envy everyone watching for the first time.

Toska Water

So... One Piece today right?

Marcus D

You’re going to be thinking that a lot through out the rest of this saga lol

Shaun V

Geks because one piece is cookin so hard rn you KNOWWWW you wanna drop an episode today

Dasha

I’m just gonna pretend it’s an early drop and watch it today like it’s new

julia

Tuesday without one piece 😔

Dasha

oh my poor Luffy my heart hurts seeing him like this

fay

is anyone else regretting voting yes 🥲

Mr. John Kagurabachi

Honestly I don’t lol. I rather them gather up the important episodes into one drop if it means missing a week tbh.

JojoJack

Is he using One Pace?

Janina

Fingers crossed the Geks are feeling generous and upload today!

zoro's enma

voted yes for early drop now I'm here rewatching after convincing myself into believing this is a new Tuesday drop

Benjamin Knock

I didnt know about the vote until today, how could you guys willingly give up a tuesday drop

Benjamin Knock

Wait ive just realized i never watched this one. Holy cow im saved

Mauricio.

What the heck was my past self thinking? I want my Tuesday drop 😭!

Benjamin Knock

so long as they skip that weird bounty hunter filler on the iceberg. absurdly forgettable

Nash

Can yall just binge this arc and the next one? 😩

greyxwaren

guess im rewatching...

greyxwaren

nash im matching your freak one sec changing my pfp

Mr. John Kagurabachi

Tell me hitman reborn wouldn’t be the best anime all time if ufotable got it instead of demon slayer :(

Marcus D

I was actually playing around with changing my pfp to zoro in that spread after seeing Nash’s earlier lol. But my current one is too good and appropriate atm, maybe in the future.

Marcus D

Also this setting of this double spread of Oda’s is low key mean/negative, at least compared to what he usually draws for colour spreads lol.

Mauricio.

Is it thursday yet ?

Joy

Iceburg bounty hunter filler?

Joy

McKay replied in the comments. Brig is apparently already in EL

desolate leng

Yeah, good point, def agree with that

Pudding

Spoiler!! Well now I'm kinda afraid of what the geks will think about what will happen next😅 Hope they won't be disappointed with the development of things

EmlovesOP

Why did I think we getting a upload today

ahmad

it's been 84 years...

Mauricio.

It is thursday now. Peak is coming!

T

one day more...🎵

Marcus D

I’m not, it may be underwhelming at first after these episodes but the development of this arc cooks. They’re starting to understand what heights one piece can reach and they know all the set-up that has happened to get a moment like the luffy vs usopp, so I’m sure they aren’t going to be doubtful during a few set up eps now.

Marcus D

Same thing happened to me. Premature expectulation

beannie

It’s one piece day🏌️‍♀️🏌️‍♀️🏌️‍♀️ the wait lowkey felt like torture ngl lol

Dasha

It feels like one of them will be a bit upset cause he seems very confident about his theories, but I think he will also be fine with the outcome eventually

farkzzy

early drop please 🙏

Marcus D

I’m kurapika right now in his last frame of the anime, leaning forward, hands interlocked arms on my legs, sitting intently waiting for the next drop.

Nash

I can’t believe that after today’s drop we’re gonna get the next ones on Tuesday 🤢

yuh jav

waiting patiently for the notification….

greyxwaren

carter at this point this is torture.....why do you hate one piece fans so much (me when i spread propaganda)

Reefat Bakht

what time do the one piece episodes drop guys? E.g. it's 4pm Thursday in the UK right now, wondering when the OP eps usually drop

Marcus D

Jack does the one piece drops lol

greyxwaren

of course it’s that jack! 😫

Marcus D

Usually from an hour from now up to possibly 12 hours after that.

Dasha

Lately there's been a lot of early drops around 2-3 pm EST. I think it's usually either around 2pm or 9pm EST

Dasha

time to visit mha comment section huh?

greyxwaren

*sigh* i guess....they had it too good for far too long! lemme grab my pitchfork

Shaun V

Jack I'm actually trynna fix my sleep schedule surely clutch up and drop ts now 😭 uve had 7 days 😭🙏🙃

Nash

Where is it 👻

Murasaki

Lowkey I feel Carter is the one decide all schedules and the amount of episodes per series per week, Jack just follows the schedule and edit and upload lol

greyxwaren

that's what i assumed tbh i though jack was responsible for the youtube editing and schedule not the patreon's

Murasaki

They have an editor for YT specifially, a guy called Chiyash. So what they do by themselves are only Patreon related editing. And it seems that only Carter and Jack doing all editing and uploading stuff now. Previously before they watch One Piece, Carter did all these things.

wanira 11

Goat pfp for goat character ;)

Mitch

Praying for the earlier than 10pm drop 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Dasha

I love tuesdays and thursdays, but I kinda hate them too 😭 every other day I can live my life without expectations, but on these two all I do is wait for one piece without even knowing how many hours of suffering I’ve got left lol

greyxwaren

it HAS to be 4 episodes in 1 it just has to...

greyxwaren

i ordered food and im hoping by the time it gets here they drop the episode bcs the past few episodes i've been watching snackless!

Dasha

omg same! I was writing the comment thinking how sad I’m gonna be if I have nothing to watch when my ramen arrives 🥲

greyxwaren

🥹🤝🥹 (delusion)

greyxwaren

welp….pizza’s here 🥲 rip

Poragami

Weak Hero dropped 3 hours ago..... any minute now

Dasha

my food arrived too, I've got nothing to watch and I'm sad 🔫

Mauricio.

Peak piece nation, we're in the trenches. Just hold on a bit more, peak is on its way.

Amy M

Fr I wish they uploaded at the same time more consistently 😭 I like to watch while I eat

John D. Acebes

Clocking out of work but locked in on the refresh button

Benjamin Knock

If youre UK you should really expect them on wednesdays and fridays, they upload late and i dont believe they use east coast time zones either

JBVI

EU geks are cooked

We really are 😭😂

I'm visiting Spain rn I finally feel their suffering

Reefat Bakht

thanks, im going to wait it out until 2am UK time lol (which is 9pm EST) and go from there

San

Jackson is the real one. He cried just like all up us have. Oda cooks everytime

Kasumii_

I feel like every One Piece fan gets emotional at those symbolic Merry tears cause right as Jack was tearing up I was too, the waterworks nearly started flowing. Another thing that always hits me is seeing Nami emotional like she's usually the one holding the crew together y'know putting the brakes on when they're fighting but when she just can't do anything but cry... AAH it hits man, especially because being so weak she can heavily empathize with Usopp and his inner conflicts about being weaker than everyone else and you always see Nami and Usopp together in little one off gags that seem meaningless at the time but those one off gags genuinely do mean stuff like characters really are deepening their bonds when they make jokes and laugh together so Usopp and Nami are genuinely really good friends. I absolutely love this though, the Geks finally getting a taste of some actual loss outside of backstories and realizing One Piece can and will indeed go to those places, you love to see it, it's ironic though, you's always complain about nobody dying in One Piece but the biggest sense of loss wasn't even from a death. I love what Carter was saying about Usopp unexpectedly being one of the most painful members to possibly leave the crew because like I feel like you could imagine a reason for the others wanting to leave but prior to this Usopp seems nothing but happy like he has every reason to stay with the Strawhats forever so it hurts all the more when you see what a good reason he has for wanting to leave and even if you don't like him you can't help but sympathize with him.

ShiftyGOSU

What happened to my fun little adventure pirate show :'(
