13:24 the moment everyone started to think about what it means to use a quirk. With like enhancer quirks it's relatively easy, it's like normal just more. If you can punch, you can punch harder. Quirks like todorokis and stuff are also relatively easy, you just spam Momos is so hard. You gotta be so detailed and just know everything, including how much fat you have left to even make it. She makes it seem so easy but to do all that focused and still be in the heat of the battle must be so overwhelming I really love the sentiment that it's what you make out of yourself and your quirk is what makes you great. I love that quirks go beyond surface level Like hagakure who can now reflect light intentionally instead of just passively with her body Koda can give orders to animals. What about humans? Aren't they animals too? What about humans that are closer to animals like tokoyami or tsu? could he use his quirk on them? What about the principal? Does it only work when the animal is "dumb"? Even tho birds are supposed to be smart? What about dumb humans like kaminari when he's overcharged? Can kaminari make a railgun? He can generate electricity but could he also absorb it? Bakugo also has to make so manyvcalculations when he's bombing it's great that his thinking also gets highlighted. Aizawa as well, his quirk is not a "fighting" Quirk but he's a hero anyway There are so many possibilities I love it. In the first season we have the exampld of someone generating water out of their own body and someone gathering moisture from the environment. Two quirks can have the same outcome but depending on how it actually works you could do so many things with it.

That's one thing this show does well that I really appreciate, is the realistic drawbacks to quirks instead of giving characters op powers and not having any repercussions

if I apply the laws of nen to quirks, it kinda makes it easier for me to understand the complexities and differences. Enhancer quirks that people use to enhance their power or a part of their body. Manipulator quirks where they can manipulate some kind of object or element. so on and so on, it's a pretty fun comparison to think about

For me it’s 6 > 7 > 4 > 3 > 5 > 2 > 1 for the overall settings of the seasons BUT season 6 and season 4 so far have my favourite arcs in them. Yes 7 is amazing and that’s why it’s second but I do enjoy this first arc of season 4 a lot for many reasons

@yanxi I know it wasn’t that low the first time I watched the show normally, but after a recent binge to watch season 7 in the spring, it just ended up not having as big an emotional or as big an impact on me as the ones before it. I just ended up loving the other ones way more. Season 3 surprised me the most. I didn’t have any particular feelings for All Might until season 3 either. And it’s also when Bakugo became my favorite character.

I have a question for everyone cause I’ve noticed it with the geks, but I’m also curious about others. When you watch anime, are you always reading the subtitles, to try and not miss anything or do you look up from time to time to look at visuals, and might miss a sentence or two? I’ve always thought that I enjoy not missing anyone dialogue, and it’s not like I’m watching a horror film where I needed to be checking in my peripherals what’s going on visually to get the full experience. I’ve also thought when animes want to you to look at visuals as opposed to dialogue, they will indicate that to the audience anyway in some fashion. Im just wondering if I’m out of the norm or not.

i just look at both at the same time. Subtitles are still part of the screen and the screen isnt that enourmous that you cant both look at whats going on and read at the same time. If i don't look while reading, how am i supposed to know whats going on and what is the context of what was said? Just reading subtitles doesn't really make sense to me. If i just wanted to read I'd go read the manga. The animation is there to be looked at. Why would the anime "indicate when to look at the visuals as opposed to dialogue" when it is made without subtitles in mind? The animators and directors in Japan make this show assuming people just listen to and watch it. When it airs on TV it has no subtitles.

Mirio is one of my personal favourite characters just because he's so happy go lucky and goofy. He's so genuinely good-hearted that you can't hate him! His quirk is probably one of the most difficult ones in the series to control properly and apply in battle. Just the amount of steps he has to go through and the downsides of him activating his quirk is enough to make anyone with less perseverance give up being something as in-the-spotlight and cutthroat as a hero. But him enduring all the scars and moving past the initially awkward stage of fine-tuning his control really makes me admire him as a character. He's just so likeable! And knowing what happens in S4 makes me even more excited to see your reactions to the next arc👀

I’m not so much saying only reading subtitles vs only watching the visuals, that’s on me for not explaining my thoughts better. I mean more along the lines of, is it your priority to not miss anything the characters are saying, or is it something that doesn’t really matter to you? I agree that it’s not that difficult to just watch both parts of the screen as both provide context for one another, but for some people it’s harder. Like since I’ve watched anime, I prefer to watch shows and movies with subtitles to make sure I don’t miss hear anything or something, so I don’t have to constantly rewind. But my parents hate subtitles when watching something cause they think their eyes gravitate towards the words when they are watching something, thus deferring their attention elsewhere. For the “visuals over dialogue” point, in the bakugo vs deku fight, when the animation and choreography turns up, there is hardly any to no dialogue, but when deku goes for his punch on bakugo, it almost a still frame/slomo. Thats kinda what I mean by indicating that “hey pay attention to this instead of this”. And also when bakugo is pouring his heart out, there’s not crazy animation imo other than his head shaking towards the end of his dialogue, so I would say given the context of what’s happening and what the characters are saying, I would think the dialogue is more important than the visuals. Hopefully this gets my point across better.

I get your point and i hope I’m answering it correctly. i tend to read quite quickly so most times i’ve read what the character has said before the rest of the line is said by the character so then i have a good balance of seeing the visuals. So i personally will try to focus more on the dialogue especially if it’s a lot of information. A lot of animes will definitely tend to have more still images across the screen for heavy dialogued scenes e.g. All for one’s and All might’s convo in Tartarus. It’s for saving budget and time (no point in having amazing animation for a conversation lol) as well as indicating to the audience that ‘this is some information you need to know so we’ll barely animate anything’. But I’m the same even with English movies i can’t hear without the subtitles haha having them on just makes my watch experience better :))

Something to keep in mind with Shigaraki is that his journey as AFO’s successor is meant to parallel Izuku’s journey as All Might’s. They are each learning and growing stronger. They are mirrors of each other, like what Best Jeanist said in S2—heroes and villains as two sides of the same coin.

Depends on the show. (assuming I can't rewind) If it's a show where the art style or animation grips me, then I'll prioritize visuals. If the visuals feel average or I'm not that gripped, OR if dialogue or plot heavy, I prioritize subtitles. I read fast enough to not have to worry abt this though I too realised I became reliant on subtitles when everyone around me asks why I put subtitles on for games and shows 😭 Some shows do intentionally leave breathing room in the animation for dialogue, but others don't because they were originally animated for a Japanese-speaking audience, who'd never have read anything during dialogue+action moments. It does suck for some shows that have amazing/important visuals shown when there's a lot of talking. Also because I'm big on visuals, I'd rather just watch the dub if it's decent Ex) - In most anime movies, I prioritize visuals. A lot of budget always goes into them, and I'd like to appreciate the art. - I think Code Geass' dub is mid, but it's worth the watch due to all the information that is presented. If I watched it subbed first, I would choose to focus on reading 90% of the time. Art was cool, but not worth missing a line over.
