So Gachiakuta is by Studio Bones which as you guys know have done Mob and MHA, it's also been confirmed that S1 will be 24 episodes. Takopi is only 6 episodes and there's already 4 episodes out already so y'all can easily get through it pretty fast

They get paid a lot of money and they are, in their words, doing this full time. Of course I wouldn’t want them to watch a bunch of stuff they don’t like but there wasn’t really even the slightest inkling that any of the ones I listed were disliked by any of them, in fact it was the opposite. And the way they keep their eyes peeled for IMDb ratings you would think they would be quite deep into some very highly rated shows by now. And that was the direction the channel had been for quite a while! They were going hard on those type of live action, (2-3 at a time with multiple episodes a week) they were newly getting into anime and knocking down the modern classics one after another. Now they’ve pushed most of that to the side in favor of whatever is the flavor of the month or will get them the most views. And while views is what makes the channel go round and obviously is the clearest metric for success, that wasn’t the glaringly sole goal of the channel for years. And it’s worth noting that they were getting pretty good views before so it’s not like you get 0 views for doing any of that. Doesn’t have to be one or the other, it can be both. And as far as the bad planning thing… yeah idk that’s just wild to me, especially cause they don’t just say it how it is, they try to pretend that a national holiday or some life event ( weddings or vacations) that were planned very far ahead of time, just randomly came out of no where and they couldn’t film an extra hour or 2 before hand to have the scheduled reactions in the chamber while they enjoy their time off.

Kaiju no 8 is coming out on Saturdays and Gachiakuta on Sundays. Not sure about the other two. Also Kaiju no 8 is animated by Production IG which I believe is a subsidiary of Wit Studios and Gachiakuta is Studio Bones (FMAB, Mob, MHA)

Totally fair that people have different expectations, but I don’t necessarily agree with the criticism on “the direction” the channel’s heading—switching things up is normal in these kinds of communities. If the channel really has been consistent for years, I don’t think it’s unreasonable for them to try exploring new things. And just to clarify, I wasn’t trying to imply everything you mentioned. If anything, I think the one thing I’d give grace to is that it might be better if they communicated more clearly when they’re dropping or pausing a series, rather than never saying anything. At the end of the day it’s okay to be disappointed, but it’s also fair to let creators do what excites them while trying to appease a diverse group of viewers who at times can be demanding. A balance would be nice though.

Yeah I mean obviously they’re doing what a lot of people want, they are getting more views now than ever, and I don’t think me or anyone that agrees with me are more important than the people happy with how it is now. It would take a novel to explain why it seems pretty clear, but I don’t think they’ve evolved past their general feelings and attitudes toward shows/movies and how they consume them (ex. Carter “the objective quality of the show heavily affects my enjoyment”). And after having been around since the beginning and still watching now, it’d be hard to convince me that they’re doing what they’re doing now purely because its what’s most interesting and exciting for them instead of doing whatever they can to farm the most views as possible. And I know they’re also enjoying what they’re watching now, I know it’s not fake hype, I just don’t know why it would be such a sharp turn and complete drop of what it was before when they’re still the same geks. I haven’t seen every channel out there but this is definitely the most obvious case of what I’m talking about, out of the ones I do watch. Even the ones that really try to optimize for views and do things extra professionally, haven’t done it like this. And I’ve said this before but they aren’t incentivized to listen or care right now cause the iron is hot, but it won’t be forever, anyone can react to the newest kdrama or anime release but not everyone can be genuine and relatable on camera. Reiterating one last time for the 3 people that read all of this, it’s not weird or disingenuous to try new things! But completely switching up when the view number increases definitely kills the genuineness of it all and burns the people that came for that when there’s no reason they can’t do both unless they’re just trying to juice every last view they can get right now.

I'm glad you've finally seen "Takopi." When this manga was released a few years ago, it caused a huge stir in Japan due to its shocking content. I'm really glad that it has been made into an anime so that people all over the world can share this experience. This story may be quite mentally draining for the viewer, as you have to watch children go through such hardships. It's quite hard content so I can't force you to watch it, but I can say with confidence that it's a masterpiece that everyone should see. It may be similar to "Grave of the Fireflies" in the sense that it's a difficult film to watch, but a masterpiece that's worth watching at least once. It may seem like the bullying, the family environment, and the indifferent attitude of those around them are portrayed in an extremely negative way, but I don't know of any other work that so squarely deals with the various problems faced by children who have no help to be reached. Let's run through all six episodes together.

Takopi manga is completed with 18 chapters and anime will have 6 eps in total. Hikaru and Gachi mangas are both still ongoing. Hikaru anime will have 12 eps while Gachi typical of shounen series will have 24 eps. You guys might as well wait for another 2 weeks for Takopi to end and binge watch the rest of it, since its a short one. As for the weekly schedule: - Hikaru is out (with sub) every saturdays at 10:55am (MT) / sundays 00:55 (JST) - Gachi (with sub) sundays at 9:00am / sundays 23:30 (JST) If I converted them correctly (the 1 hour or 30mins in between is due to official streaming sub releases).

Hey, Im not quite sure how you interpreted it that way, but as a manga reader and casual enjoyer of this series, i would love to explain these points to you. If you are referring to the scene in the gym in the second episode as the "BL fan service", that scene exists as a direct confrontation for yoshiki to really see the difference between the two hikaru's that hes been ignoring just because how much he missed his friend. In fact, you can see his POV of looking down in the beginning, almost as if he doesnt want to taint his current image of his old friend by seeing this direct proof that it isnt him anymore. Like you said in the beginning, it is an incredible cosmic horror mystery, and in order to do that, it needs to also make the viewer uncomfortable, which was probably what all of us felt during that scene. Simultaneously, the scene helps push the question in both our and Yoshiki's minds about what he and Hikaru feel for each other, which it did a great job with. There is an emotional depth and undertone here that you seemed to have missed, or maybe you are just biased against queer media, which is why it must have just felt awkward or gross for you. Im not sure what you are referring to when you say the story is like the "I can fix him" crowd on tumblr, because Yoshiki doesnt once try to change Hikaru, instead we see him struggling to accept the fact that hes changed at all, despite being the first to notice.

As for your last point, the author Mokumokuren said there are multiple ways to interpret the scene in ep 3. From a storytelling angle, the scene is also pure psychological horror. It reminds us and yoshiki, that 1) he is not safe with him 2) Hikaru is not stable, and 3) With the context of the aftermath we are shown that Yoshiki is willing to tolerate a very imminent danger on his life as long as he gets to keep his 'friend' around. Yes, that is a toxic relationship. Yes, that is the point. The two are not supposed to be perfect together, and thats what brings in the horror and mystery elements that you liked in the beginning. Sorry, I know this was a lot, but figured I would explain in case you could see these scenes differently, but obviously, everyone has a right to dislike any shows they want.

And as a manga reader caught up to latest releases (ch. 37) lemme tell you it is NOT meant to just “forget” about the cosmic horror. This summer season is just filled to the brim with great shows. I hope you guys are going to continue watching all of them at some point! I had to skip Kaiju No. 8 though, I'm watching it later with a friend - I really enjoyed the first season, but I'm hoping season 2 fleshes characters out more. I loved The Summer Hikaru Died's eeriness and art direction. Gachiakuta also seems interesting, they developed a world & mystery in one episode so well. Takopi's Original Sin hit me hard though. The way they displayed Shizuka's mental state and how she carried herself and interacted with people is very realistic from being heavily bullied - you feel isolated and distance yourself from people, extermely anxious so you don't ask for help, and without others to notice, your will is slowly eroded and you'll reach a point of depression where the easy way out is a consideration. Luckily, there are people out there that will intervene and be supportive.

Yeah tbh this is my one single worry having a group of straight guys watching this show, as a queer person myself too. Tbf I know a lot of straight YouTubers etc. who watched and LOVED this show/manga because it is just fantastic, and plenty of creators aren’t homophobic in the slightest. I would LOVE it if we lived in a world where any person of any sexuality and religion would watch any show and be unbothered by it, but Yoshiki is a gay kid hiding who he is in a small town, and a lot of the plot is an allegory for that, and the author used a lot of queer-coded scenes to emphasise the horror. I don’t want to end up disappointed/alienated from this channel if the reactions went downhill because of viewpoints on the queer themes. I just hope the Geks would be kind and open-minded because they all are lovely people🙏
