Pony is an American exchange Student lol, she speaks Japanese but also speaks english when she gets frustrated

So the thing with Pony is that canonically, she's supposed to be from the US because she's a transfer student. And she doesn't speak good Japanese. But, because the show uses Japanese VA's, her VA isn't an expert in English and has a pretty distinct accent. That's why she sounds so off-putting, she's trying to speak English but it's not her expertise. So she sounds a lot more pitchier than it's expected. But it's the same thing that happens when some English-speaking VA tries to speak in another language, their accent often very off-putting to native speakers. And I imagine they didn't think it was worth trying to find somebody who was an expert in both Japanese and English for a character who gets like 5 minutes of screen time. Funny note about Pont the character though, in some of the side content, it's explained that she's not great at Japanese and Monoma tends to teach her... But he goes out of his way to teach her like insulting things to be said against 1A, without her being aware of it.

Those crazy shots of Lida were done by Yutaka Nakamura, whos also done most of the crazy shots like the end of Deku vs Shoto, that shot of bakugo flying in season 3, Deku vs Bakugo, the crazy shot of Deku vs Overhaul, and the shot of endeavor spinning and destroying the building. He also did the end of the first movie and does crazy work on all of the movies. The sukuna vs mahoraga parts you were thinking of were done by Vincent chansard, who is also crazy. The cubes breaking are called yutapon cubes, named after him and its kinda his staple.

The only thing that bugs me about Shoto, is that he hasn’t thrown a single punch or kick, since the show started. He relies too much on his powerful quirk, that if his quirk is not effective in battle, his hand to hand weaknesses start to appear. I know that a punch or kick won’t do anything to Tetsutetsu, but I’m talking about every person Shoto has ever fought. For example, his fight against Deku in the Sports Festival. Like even Shinso thew a punch at Deku, and his quirk isn’t even for fighting…

The animator you're talking about is Yutaka Nakamura. However since he is the GOAT and so influential just seeing blocky debris isn't enough to identify him as so many animators do it now. He did do the IIda scene this ep but did not work on the Mahoraga fight or has ever worked on a Mappa production.

Those Cubes you were talking about are Yutapon Cubes. It’s not a single animator that uses the technique, many have adopted it. It did originate from a specific artist/animator though, Yutaka Nakamora who does work on A LOT of the high profile fights you see and really brought it into the limelight. He may have been the one who did it in this ep I’m not sure He’s pretty much the reason you see cubes and know the animation is about to cook

That’s Pony’s gimmick. She’s from America so she speaks half Japanese half English. She sounds weird because that’s the actual Japanese voice actress trying to say the whole sentence in English. I don’t know if they do the opposite for the dub but you can imagine how odd it would be for a English speaking person to try to speak Japanese

@Lexzc Yeah, the England thing is definitely for the dub so they can differentiate when she talks differently. Seems sort of silly lol. I'm sure that trope is a thing but that's not what Pony's trope is. She a literal transfer student from America that speaks fluent English and stiff, beginner Japanese. It's definitely clearer in the manga. The Japanese VA just can't speak fluent English cuz English is hard for Japanese people.

they will watch it when season 2 comes out, i think overall frieren has a very classic anime world with great world building, breathe of fresh air among all the shounen slop but its pretty overrated, FMAB has better characters and many different storylines and AOT only got interesting towards the end after 2 seasons of average mystery story.

She speaks English in the English dub. It's incredibly difficult to localize something like that, but I think she actually uses more English slang in the parts where the Japanese VA had to speak English. Example: When Tetsutetsu is smashing stuff, she says, "Oh, geez, you're gonna goddamn blow it for us, metalhead!" To which the other guy says: "You hear what you're making Pony sound like? Is this what you want?" As another quick example, when she gets burned by Todoroki's flames, she says, "Ouchies!" instead of just "Ouch!" like the Japanese VA said.

I keep forgetting how good the third match is despite knowing the general direction and the outcome of it WBJEHBWEB A match with Todoroki and Iida is always going to be something to look forward to, but damn does this fight show how powerful a seemingly simple and not powerful quirk can be. Honenuki being a recommendation student just like Todoroki immediately places him in a slightly higher category than most other students in the hero course. The recommendation students are like early/special admission students who apply because of special circumstances or because they have particular talents that are valuable or powerful. From my understanding, Honenuki is pretty powerful in an actual fight, but in a 1-on-1 fight or individual test, he might be overlooked due to how his quirk needs to be applied to shine. Which is why Todoroki ranked higher than him during their recommendations test (if you rmb, Inasa the wind guy from Shiketsu Academy ranked first, followed by Todoroki, which makes Honenuki and Tokage, the 2 Class B recommendation students, rank below them). Anyway, it's super interesting to see how Class B uses their quirks overall. I loved exploring their new quirks, because they're all so different from what we already know of Class A's quirks. Which is also why I'm crazy excited for the next few episodes. I can't wait for you guys to see Katsuki in action!

Here's the obligatory reminder for the watch order! Also, I updated the last movie's position because I thought it might be too jarring to interrupt S7 with the movie. MHA watch order goes (ideally + reasons): Season 5 (Ep 1 to 12) ->Movie 2: Heroes Rising Season 5 (Ep 13 to 25) -> Movie 3: World Heroes' Mission Season 6 -> Season 7 -> Movie 4: You're Next Something to note is that Studio Bones messed up the order of the arcs in the second half of S5. So originally, the last two arcs should have been in the opposite order from what is presented in the anime. Just for you guys to know, movie 2's events are supposed to happen after the last arc in S5 (which was supposed to come before the second arc of S5). And accordingly, movie 3's events are supposed to happen during the second arc of S5 (which was supposed to come after the last arc of S5).

Please proceed with caution! @Tivy Movie 4 is suspected to have happened between the time that Class 1A arrives at the Troy facility and when the Final War begins. Officially, there is no confirmation about when in the canon timeline the movie fits into, but from the context of the movie (including things like the version of Izuku's costume he's wearing in the movie and the usage of his quirk), it can be assumed that the events of You're Next most likely happened during the 4 days that pass btw Troy and the Final War.

The time between Class 1A arriving at Troy facility and when the Final War arc begins that I was referring to IS between episodes 4 and 5 of S7, so there's nothing wrong with what I said. I've been putting movie 4 to be watched after S7 Ep 4 and before Ep 5 for the past 4 seasons of the Geks' reaction videos, and I only changed it for the list in this comment section due to the reason I mentioned in my original comment.

Carter nailed it, the cubes are a specific animator named Yutaka Nakamura, and the cubes are an animation classic now, people call them Yutapon Cubes. He did a ton of Work on MHA, but now he kinda just bounces around to different Bones works and sometimes does freelance stuff for other studios. Definitely one of, if not the most, influential Animator in Recent Japanese History!

Ok some important notes the placement of the movies is such as such 5x12–> second movie, 5x25 -> third movie, 7x4-> fourth movie. (This is the definitive order) As for filler episodes EPISODE 16 IS FILLER now it’s not terrible filler it’s a quick wholesome ep that slightly eludes to the third movie but thats about it nothing of real importance too the plot. if you were to do a triple drop this season I’d maybe put it there or you can skip it I don’t think many people would really care. Now this is REALLY IMPORTANT season 6 and season 7 EPISODES 1s ARE NOT FILLER after 5x16 there are no more filler episodes in my hero, so please remember NOT too skip 6x1 and 7x1 as they are very important eps :))))))

Mentioning the ep number instead of the arc name makes it spoilerless and the geks can decide for themselves if they want to watch the movie mid season or not. After an completed arc is kind of the perfect time for a movie esp if that is the canon timeline.The movie has a manga oneshot written and drawn by horikoshi (unlike mha smash!) as a manga tie in. So it is canon in manga and anime.

@m1gz To answer both your replies: Well, that's your opinion. If you think it isn't, then that's totally fine. And I'm not against the Geks watching it in the middle of the season either, so I'm not disagreeing with you. But saying that it "should be watched btw 7x4 and 7x5" is a bit of a stretch because there's no MUST DO IT THIS WAY about these orders. The movie wasn't even released yet when episodes 4 and 5 were airing globally. There's literally nothing wrong with watching the movie after the season is over because that's how the studio released it. I only put movie 4 to be watched after because there's already so much going on in S7 itself, and I thought adding a movie in the middle of two information and action heavy arcs would be a bit of an overload. What if they forget some important details after veering away from the actual plot and watching the movie? It's hard enough for them to remember details binging the entire season but to interrupt it and go back to it one movie later? Wouldn't that make it even harder and more frustrating on both them and their audience if they inadvertently mix things up? I think this is a pretty reasonable qn to ask tbh. If you think it isn't jarring to watch the movie in the middle of S7 you could have just said so and suggested I change it back to the previous list I had. There is nothing complicated about my list or my comment. I literally explained in the first 2 lines what I changed and why, and it's not hard to understand. Unless it was for you, which is confusing to me because I made myself very clear. Had you actually read every post I made about this watch list under all previous reaction videos, you would know I HAVE BEEN putting movie 4 btw episodes 4 and 5, but someone replied to me before and was vehemently against that as well (and I recall it was specifically during S3 Ep7-8). So what do you want me to do? Ignore them and their valid concerns and listen to you? But on what grounds? Your opinion doesn't matter any more or less than theirs so I'm kind of in a bind here since one side is always gonna be unhappy about how I write this list regardless. I'm not here to satisfy what YOU think should be the watch order. I'm here to suggest a POSSIBLE order that makes sense and doesn't ruin the experience for first time watchers. At least I don't put the movies in places where people might get spoiled. Also, feel free to "take over my job" as you called it. It really doesn't concern me if you do or not. Just keep me out of your comments and refrain from referring to me. I'm one of the few people who have consistently given reminders about the watch order for MHA, despite some changes I chose to make because of overly dramatic people who demand me to write the watch list how they like it, so another one joining the party wouldn't matter. The Geks can decide for themselves whether they want to watch the movie in the middle of the season or after, and I'll be perfectly fine with both, unlike you apparently.

@Limini I didn't mention episode numbers because what I wanted to emphasise was that the arcs I was talking about directly corresponds to episodes 4 and 5, which you didn't seem to know. Otherwise why would you reply to me that movie 4's events happen btw episodes 4 and 5 when I literally just said the same thing in the reply I made to @Tivy? You're just repeating my own words to me. @botanbutton They could have gotten someone fluent in English, they just honestly don't care. They cast the actor for their acting/voice, and as long as they can read the English lines to some extent, then its fine. America does the same, in many cases. Breaking Bad is full of broken, machine translated Spanish spoken by actors who do not speak Spanish. But if you don't speak it either, you probably don't notice. Ask a native speaker what they think of the Spanish in the show, they'll tell you. Anime is just (99% of the time) not made with English speakers in mind. But it does get included a lot, because English is typically seen as being "cool".
