Without making it too complicated. The counter force is a mechanism that prevents humans from destroying the future of humanity. The people that Archer kill could have of given enough time destroyed the future of humanity, maybe. Guardians are more shoot everyone and ask questions later

Also, the reason why Lancer didn't die after stabbing himself was because he has the Battle Continuation Skill (so did Berserk). It allows a heroic spirit to keep fighting with a mortal injury.

Maybe I've got it wrong, but I'm pretty sure Archer did go through the same things as Emiya did right now, he just doesn't remember it. He said he was still missing most of his memories of his early life except for the memory of the fire. The thing is at the end it was Shirou that convinced Archer, not the other way around. So Archer will most likely continue as a guardian and believe in his ideal again. I really liked the symbolism of the giant gears in his reality marble that represent him becoming like a machine bound by fate, but it's Shirou's admiration for Kiritsugu's ideal that then clears the sky again and gives Archer back hope that he can be a true champion of justice.

Unfortunately not. Archer went through something similar to the Fate Route, but he couldn't save Saber. That's why he still felt sad about taking Shirou away from her.

Fate stay night has three routes of what ifs based on the visual novel, mainly its based on the romantic interest that Shirou pursues. To get all the lore and explanations, you have to go through all three routes because there's so much stuff that one route (UBW for example) is to small to fit in and so far only two routes have been animated faithfully based on the visual novel; UBW and the heavens feel movies. speaking of which, are you guys gonna watch heavens feel after UBW?

The reason Saber is the poster child is because in the visual novel of Fate Stay Night, there's an original/first route called "Fate" where Saber and Shirou's story are the main focus. It goes over more of her story and why she's seeking the grail. Again, this was written before Fate Zero (which explains her backstory and goal), so you don't know anything about her until you play the VN or watch Studio Deen's anime (which has a lot of anime original content, so not quite the same plot as the VN). She is also the love interest in that route, whereas in UBW it's Rin. Basically, Saber was the main heroine before UBW and HF routes, making her the face of the franchise. Really curious to see if you guys enjoy Zero or UBW more after the season is over. Both are great for different reasons, so there isn't really a right or wrong answer. Just don't forget Heaven's Feel exists 👀

There is lot of layers to these episodes, Archer being a Guardian, Shirou adapting to Archer, the Grail As what others have been saying you need to watch all the main Fate series to understand it at a basic level. Since even after watching everything you still lose many contexts cause they can't adapt all the contents

Also a lot of things are different between Shirou and Archer but one thing is similar is their eyebrows. I saw some guessed they are the same person from their eyebrows alone very early into the shows 💀

Kiritsugu implanted the scabbard to himself before the fight with Kirei and that's why he's able to use Triple Accel and continuous Accel to win. So when he rescued Shirou you see there was a moment of the scabbard Avalon, and it was implanted to Shirou during the fire.

I honestly prefer when shirou in the subtitles i watched said "just because you're correct doesn't mean you're right." instead of "being right isnt everything" it goes deeper into his struggle with contradictions and hypocrisy and the emotions and the logic at play. Archer could have dealt the killing blow many times but he needed to make sure he completely destroyed Shirou's will and ideals to "save" him from a future that Archer believes is hell for eternity.

Saber is the poster child because she is the focus of the first and main route of the source material with the UBW and Heaven's Feel routes being accessed after. Guessing since the 2006 anime of the main route already exists Ufotable chose not to adapt it.

You guys misunderstand saber's line. The guardian is something separate from the grail war and just "exist". Saber's saying archer's wish isnt plausible because guardians exist unbound by time. The scabbard was always in Shirou since Kiritsugu saved him. It wasn't in a box. You guys just assumed it was in the storeroom earlier and got that impression stuck in your head.

Ive read the VN and rewatched this about 3x . I understand why they dont FW UBW. Caster was a wack villian tbh and archer moments carried this version of fate and shinji moments are terrible . IMO the idealogy conflict of archer/shirou is the highest peak in fate for me but HF trilogy and route as a whole is just so much better then UBW. UBW is needed though since it elavates HF so much more. No doubt they will like HF alot more

If I remember correctly, I think Shirou's hair turns white due to his prolonged usage/exposure of magic. The tanned skin I always interpreted as being from his frequent travels/missions. As for Lancer's master, I don't believe this is a spoiler because I don't remember it being covered in UBW or Heaven's Feel, but Lancer was originally summoned by a female mage. Unfortuntely, Kirei being the rat he is, killed her and stole her command seals along with her servant. Someone feel free to correct me on any of this, I'm going off of memory alone.

I believe in F/E, Nameless tells us the skin tone change came from overuse of projection. If you look up EMIYA Alter from the fate grand order game his skin gets even darker and hair even whiter to the point where when I first saw him I mistook his ethnicity. He's sick though he has like two black and white gun blades instead of his normal blades.

I think solo leveling might be allegedly more enjoyable for carter because the show was marketed as just a linear hyped action packed show while FZ/UBW made some effort in the writing and character dynamics and world building adaption from the source material which means more criticisms and higher standards.

Deep lore bit that the show never covers: Yes Cannon, the early grail wars were true grails that granted true wishes. If I remember correctly, it's the last 3 grail wars that went to shit and is why we have this corrupted grail that opens a portal to hell full of curses. Another fun fact about the early grail wars, the current leader of the mages association is a very early participant of one of the earliest grail wars, who wished to see "The Root" that yall have been very curious about, and is now an immortal vampire without all the negatives you would normally find with vampires. Kiritsugus dad was attempting to figure out how to become immortal as well, ultimately becoming what the head of the mages association is. But what his dad was performing wasn't true magic, and so ultimately was making a bunch of lesser undead that had no control of themselves and has all the negatives you would normally find with being a vampire. He is one of the few mages in the modern world capable of performing true magic, not just magecraft. True magic is something that used to be very prevalent in the world, during the time Gilgamesh was alive and many other heroic spirits, when gods still roamed the world essentially. Nowadays it's extremely rare, and mages perform magecraft currently, which is a mixture of science and magic, ultimately less powerful than true magic and incapable of performing miracles, but is much easier to use and holds a lot of usefulness in the modern world. THE ROOT Now to answer one of yalls earliest question as well since I feel safe answering it by this point in the show. The Root is the origin point of magic and essentially the universe. If a modern human were to actually find themselves looking at the root, they would essentially have the ultimate epiphany of all time and become aware of how to do many things that were deemed impossible. A mage who was using mage craft, would now know how to perform true magic, comparable to what we see Caster be able to do, but even more powerful more than likely depending on what realizations they find themselves having at the root. This is why it's the ultimate mages wish, because their research would reach new heights that wouldnt have even been possible if their entire bloodline were to continue that research until the end of time. It is THE Mages wish, probably because of the ancient stories of previous winners. There are some other winners as well, but I can't remember what their lore was with winning it except for the head honcho of the mages association lol also they only get a limited glimpse of the root to attain this power and knowledge. So even the few mages that have seen it, still want to go back and acquire more knowledge.

Also to answer your question about guardians and the counter force. The counter force is either the Earth, or the collective consciousness of humanity that balances itself out. No matter the timeline, even the ones that branch off from the one we're witnessing, the counter force will send a guardian to balance the world so it doesn't destroy itself with whatever event that is happening at that time. It's magic similar to the grail summoning heroic spirits, but it's an individual summoned to perform a single task, and then be taken back to their waiting room lol it's basically just the world policing itself from it's dumb inhabitants to not be able to kill itself, and almost always that means killing the people causing the issue, even when it's not necessarily a combatant. So to add to that, Archer is a Shirou from one of those other timelines where he made some different decisions than the Shirou we know here. He essentially picked one of the other 3 routes of Fate/Stay Night, but ultimately failed his path. He lost his Saber while potentially being in love with her, which a lot of people contribute to his downfall and losing his way. Of course the true final nail in the coffin for his downfall, is the extreme desire of wanting to save all of humanity, and then being forced by the world after making his contract to kill thousands upon thousands of people. When he is summoned as a counter guardian to a point in time, he is only given one objective by the world. "To slaughter all humans at a particular location when mankind is at the threshold of complete self destruction"

Tbf “conceptual weapons” in Fate can be hard to wrap your head around since you need to connect the dots that a physical item like the scabbard of a sword can be magically put into / pulled out of people. The only time you ever see it in action is when Kiritsugu pulls Avalon out of Irisveil in Fate Zero

It's worth noting Rin has suspected Archers identity for ages and has known it for certain before any of the other characters did. I only say that cause Jack mentioned Rin will be shocked at his identity but she knew before any of them due to knowing there is only one of those necklaces. How did Archer return her necklace to her in the very first episode if Shirou has it in his possession? As mentioned in a previous episode, it's because Archer kept that necklace for his entire life from the moment he received it. That moment being when he picked it up off the ground as Shirou when Rin revived him that night. Therefore, the necklace he returned to her that night wasn't the one she had just used but the version he had carried with him through his whole life. I can't remember if this is explicitly stated but it also hints that Archer never actually lost his memories at any point in the show and simply lied about it.
