Saber has in-story plot armor, her high Luck stat. Like all her base stats, it varies by master skill. With Shirou (a mediocre master at best) it’s B. With Rin (a genius and generational talent, one day will be ranked in the top 100 mages, all time according to the guy who wrote Fate), Saber’s luck stat is A+. With Saber’s luck, she can tank Lancer’s gae bolg, which when thrown as a counter attack is guaranteed to strike the opponents’ heart. Because she’s lucky, the spear ends up just grazing her heart. And the shot to Assassin’s broken sword is another example of Saber’s luck. She was only able to find that small opening because the chipped blade affected the trajectory of the sword slashes.

Yeah, Saber’s Luck is basically her plot armor. It’s not just story convenience tho ,high Luck actually affects how attacks hit in the Nasuverse. That’s why Gáe Bolg doesn’t insta kill her it just grazes her heart instead. Same with Assassin’s broken sword her timing only worked out pretty much because of her Luck. Even under Shirou she survives stuff that should kill her, and with Rin boosting her Luck to A+, it’s basically unfair. That Luck also helps her hang on long enough to use Avalon if she needs it. So yeah, she has some insane luck but it can't just be called "plot-armor" imo it's actually a real mechanic in the Nasuverse

Look I’ll just say it. It’s not even really spoilers imo because it doesn’t come up in the ufotable animes. But just in case In her own route, Saber’s love interest is Shirou. It doesn’t have a modern adaptation so anime-onlys wouldn’t catch it. But in her route, the first route you play in the game, Shirou and Saber’s relationship develops to the point that they’re basically soulmates. Which is funny if you think about it for a second. Because Saber is somewhere in her mid-20s to mid-30s in chronological age (she stopped physically aging when she pulled the sword from the stone in her teens). And Saber is the father to a son*, Mordred. And she’s the king of Britain. And Shirou is graduating from high school at the end of the year lol.

I can’t believe that it’s been so long since the 2006 Deen version, that it’s not considered modern anymore. Also the dated animation doesn’t help it being modern either lol. I know it’s not a 100% faithful adaptation, but it’s closest thing we got. (To the Saber Route)

Well in the original Fate route shirou and saber are basically soulmates, and their romance is top tier. And imo shirou being inlove with saber to the point where he goes to avalon to be with her is the happiest ending shirou can ever have. I cant wait for the fate route to have a modern anime ): but if the mexican and british lost belt still dont have one then the chances for fate route are dim ;-;
