I think in regards to the conversations/plot points revolving around heteromorph descrimination, part of it was intentional - the same way we werent exposed to corrupt heroes in the first few seasons of the show, we aren't seeing the darker sides to a society that is initially portrayed as being so bright on the surface. I would think of it similarly to the speech that Lady Nagant gave - a lottt of bad had to happen to create the veneer of good that most civilians and heroes were exposed to on a day-to-day basis, and because of that, we didn't see the bad either - up until the mask started to crack, anything seen as bad (be it corrupt heroes, justified villains, class issues, discrimination against heteromorphs, etc) was swept under the rug, for both the viewer & for the heroes & civilians we followed

Light Fades to Rain always makes me cry. The 2 week wait for the next episode was absolute torture. I was full on depressed because I thought someone who doesn’t even exist died and was really considering calling out of work. Also this is the season with the most references to the movies. Spoiler alert for anyone that hasn’t seen at least movie 2. Bakugo had OFA for a little bit and his eye took on the pointy star shape in this episode like it did in the movie and he was speaking to vestige OFA All Might that was left in him.

2:12:15 — Carter I’m so glad you caught on that Deku and Shigaraki are literally two halves of the same story. Both were once kids who dreamed of being heroes (Deku looking up to All Might and Shigaraki idolizing Nana), but were denied of that dream and told they could never be heroes. But where Deku was given a hand to pull him up, Shigaraki was abandoned and broken down until that dream turned into something evil. They even mirror each other in how their power grew: Deku’s body struggling to handle OFA while Shigaraki’s quirk literally destroyed everything he touched, both of them isolated by abilities too heavy for a child to carry. And the irony is that each side has what the other lacks. Deku had love and guidance but no innate power, Shigaraki had insane power but no love to ground him. Plus both their powers were beyond their controls. I would argue they are both extremely well written, as it’s not just hero vs. villain but a tragic story of how easily either of them could have walked the other’s path if just one piece of their story had gone differently.

"When does he put all the rings in?" I just realised that nobody has mentioned this before, but those "rings" in Dabi's skin are actually staples. As in, they're there to physically HOLD his unmarred skin and burnt parts together. I can't imagine how painful it must be to make every expression and speak with what's left of your sense of feeling in your skin being constantly tugged into different directions. It makes me sick how much pain Toya had to endure throughout his life so far.

What I love about Mirko, both here and in the previous arc, is that she's always in the "Fight" part of Fight or Flight, because she's always actively rushing into danger. And because she's a prey animal on top of that, it makes it that much exponentially stronger

I love the focus on the heteromorph struggle and tentacole (and koda!) getting their time to shine—for me, it reminded me a lot of mutants in x-men and how mutants whose entire forms are changed want to receive the "hope serum" to become "normal" and claims that mutants whose powers has only been a boon wouldn't understand the struggle they've been through. there's a particularly sad comic panel of a mutant whose body is made of gas who cries and says "I just want to be able to touch people again". a very cool (and important) focus shift even though so many other incredible fights are going on! and that koda level-up, worth it just to see the geks watching in disbelief at the screen lmao

Contrary to the super epic moments Todoroki had in the past, this fight against Dabi was a contrast in that the music reflected none of the intensity of what was going on on screen. Instead, the barebones instrumental in the background gave the spotlight to the tragedy of Toya and Shoto's situations. The saddest thing about this fked up mess is that Toya WASN'T originally going to become Dabi. He always held out hope, even when it seemed obvious to others in the family that he wasn't wanted the way Shoto was wanted in Endeavour's eyes. His first reaction upon waking up from his 3-year coma was that he wanted to go home. He wanted to apologise to his family for exploding at them with his temper tantrums and almost hurting his baby brother. The tragedy comes in when he realised for good that he was forgotten by everyone. That his hopes were fruitless all this time because even his death didn't change the way Endeavour viewed his children and family. It only served to intensify Endeavour's longing to push his unfulfilled dream onto Shoto. And it resulted in nothing but a perpetual cycle of hatred and greed. Toya was PUSHED to a point of no return. And because he's always had a frightening level of determination even at the cost of his own safety and well being, he ended up how he is now: broken, marching towards death, fiercely determined to leave his mark on Endeavour's life by getting the attention he always wanted but never received. And how does he intend to do that? To destroy and burn up everything Endeavour holds dear. Because there's no way he'll still be ignored after doing all that. Shoto having to face his oldest brother, without even any memory of what he was like before he turned into the monster that's before him, is yet another facet of this fight that makes it so emotional. This isn't your run-of-the-mill showdown against a villain. It's his brother, his FAMILY, his reminder that his existence itself was never born out of love but hateful greed and selfish desire. His identity as a person is put under scrutiny through this fight with Dabi, because even after all this time, he still hasn't quite found his place in his family. The scars of the past are slow to fade. And it is only because of his classmates and friends, who have helped him and shown him a different path other than the hatred he was walking, that he is now able to open his eyes to the reality that he is MUCH more than just a designer baby. The sense of safety he feels around Class 1A shows how far he's come, and how different he is now compared to before. It allows him to see how stuck he was in comparison to his family members, who have each grown to leave the pain of their past behind. Because they were all someone before being warped by Endeavour's greed. Fuyumi and Natsuo had time to figure out their place in the world due to Endeavour's neglect. Endeavour himself has developed in such a way that he's trying to atone for the horrible things he's done. But Shoto, up to this point, has never once been allowed to BE himself. He saw himself as Endeavour's creation because that's how Endeavour has been treating him since he was born. And he hated it. He rejected that identity. But after that, what is he? He still didn't know. It is only in this moment, as he mentioned when he was talking to Izuku in his flashback, that he is becoming his own person. The creation of his own move symbolises his development as an individual. It establishes his own identity, one not connected to Endeavour in the least, because this is something ONLY he can do. The sketches of Toya and Shoto as children in the last sequence reflect both Dabi and Shoto's ideas about their paths. Dabi thinks that their paths will never again cross because of how warped he's become in comparison to his family. He says they're going down "parallel lines now", meaning his destiny no longer has anything to do with his family. But as Shoto says when he punches Dabi square in the solar plexus ("Our paths will cross, even if forced."), the Todoroki family will not allow Dabi's fate to be completely independent of them. They will force their paths to intertwine once more, to be family once more even in the most tragic of ways, and even if Dabi doesn't want to. And that's so depressing that I want to bang my head against the wall.

Man I cried so hard over 7x11. He's just a baby, a little kid. I started off hating Bakugo, then laughing hard at his ability to be ragebaited by literally anything and how unintentionally funny he is, then loving his personality growth as he gets older, to being one of my favourite characters, top 3 in MHA, and top 20 overall. I remember seeing a comment of someone asking why his death was meant to be sadder than any of the other pro heroes. Like???? He is a CHILD. Pro heroes are expected to save everyone or give their life doing so because they've spent years honing their quirks to their full potential, yet UA are still just kids who are learning their quirks, trying their best to save the world. Not only is it heartbreaking because he's a main character for us, but also the fact that there was numerous pro hero adults there who had to watch him die and have it fall under their responsibility. It would be sad in any scenario to have a kid die. Let alone a kid who was already injured in a battle he realistically shouldn't have been in but had to be cos of everything happening, and in front of his teachers, delivering what he thought would be an ultimate move only for it to essentially not do anything in return for him dying. And for his last thoughts to be of Deku and All Might show how much he had grown ss s person. Sorry for the rant lmao

I cried buckets seeing Katsuki die on screen I cannot stress how much I love him and seeing him do EVERYTHING he can to win, to the point where he adopts Izuku's fighting style while his entire body is experiencing unimaginable pain, crushed my soul. The scene where he and Vestige All Might are together was done SO SO beautifully and I just KNEW something horrible was about to happen despite how wholesome the interaction was. People often forget this but Katsuki is JUST as huge a fan of All Might as Izuku is. They are constantly in the competition for who worships All Might the most. Izuku simply expresses his admiration without restraint, while Katsuki is more low key about it. He LITERALLY modelled his hero name after All Might as a tribute (DynaMIGHT), and the fact that he kept the collectable card of All Might??? From when he won it in a lucky bid from a snack blindbox as a child???? AND BROUGHT THE CARD WITH HIM TO THE WAR WITH THE INTENTION TO GET IT SIGNED BY HIS IDOL EVENTUALLY??? I'M FKING CRYING I'M NOT OKAY. HE WAS JUST A FANBOY LOOK AT HIS SHEEPISH EXPRESSION AND HIM SCRATCHING THE BACK OF HIS NECK WHEN ASKING ALL MIGHT TO SIGN HIS CARD!!! Was literally screaming crying throwing up during the end of ep 11, and the title card of the episode DID NOT HELP AT ALL. It was a terrible foreshadowing of what was gonna happen. I'm sick. Genuinely sick. Seeing it again on a rewatch does not change how devastated I am about this scene. "If there's just one thing I'm interested in about you...it's that you're the person closest to Midoriya Izuku right now..." And Shigaraki wasn't kidding about this I was in SHAMBLES. It hurt so bad knowing that Izuku was about to pull up on the scene and see him died on the ground. They mean so much to each other it's actually foul how this played out.

There's a lot of controversy surrounding Edge Shot's decision to sacrifice himself and become Katsuki's heart. One, that he has no connection whatsoever to Katsuki personally, as he wasn't his mentor or even familiar with him as a person, so people think it's stupid that he would risk his own life to save some random kid's. Two, that his quirk being able to situate himself INSIDE Katsuki's body came out of nowhere. Three, that them doing this in the middle of an ongoing battle with Shigaraki is dumb. And honestly, I don't fault them for having such thoughts, but if you pay attention, there's no reason why this series of events isn't possible. Many fans have pointed out why it makes sense, and I'm really just consolidating them together with my own thoughts. Addressing the first complaint: So what if he has no connection to Katsuki? The preceding scene right before Edge Shot announces his intent is the one of All Might holding hands with Star and Stripe, who in turn holds her hand out to whoever comes next. Timothy Agpar (the guy who took out the picture of Star from his pocket while trying to convince America's authorities NOT to bow down to Shigaraki) was literally saying that adults are the ones who children look to and observe. They grow based on how adults act. All Might's heroism inspired a new generation of amazing heroes, the top of which sat Star, who is his junior and self-proclaimed disciple. She, in turn, is looking to inspire another generation of heroes to do the same as the both of them did. And while not directly the generation after, All Might DID find someone. He found Izuku. But it's not JUST Izuku. Katsuki is also part of the second generation after All Might to prove himself as a hero. Edge Shot, who understands that adults like them are the key to paving the path for the young heroes in the generation after them, was willing to sacrifice himself because he SEES the potential that Katsuki has. He's INVESTING in that potential he sees by attempting to save Katsuki's life. It's NOT a whim, and Katsuki's NOT just a random kid. Edge Shot needs no other reason than the one he stated: "The heart that was just stopped is not a life we can afford to lose!" He's acknowledging that Katsuki has more potential than anyone in the Coffin at that moment to defeat Shigaraki (working on the assumption that Izuku is not able to help them). Addressing the 2nd complaint: I don't have a lot to say about this tbh. This is a superhero manga. With unimaginable powers and infinite possibilities. And this isn't the first time we've seen Edge Shot fiddle around with someone's insides by poking holes into them. He can open up a tiny hole in someone's lungs (like he did during the first war), and you want to question why he can get inside someone's body? Come on. It's not out of nowhere if the one thing he's known for on screen is to immobilise people by penetrating their organs and causing damage. He's a pro-hero, not an amateur. This level of quirk control is NOT surprising at all. Also, just leaving this here, but Horikoshi consulted real life experts (specifically EMTs) to make this phenomenon in his FICTIONAL story as realistic as possible. You can't tell me that he didn't do his research and pulled this out of nowhere when he's talked to real professionals about whether this is possible or not. At the very least, the suspension of disbelief from the fact that this is a superhero powers centred story is more than enough to overlook the details about a procedure like this. If you want to work out HOW exactly it works, I'm afraid that's not going to get you anywhere. Just move on. Finally, the third complaint: Wdym it's dumb that they're doing the procedure in the middle of a battle? What else can they do but hope for a miracle from Katsuki? If you remember, Katsuki has been the ONLY one so far to deal significant damage to both Shigaraki's physical and mental state, minus Mirio's comment about the friends thing. He alone was able to catch Shigaraki off guard and rattle him to a point that made him panic and his sense of self break apart. Why wouldn't they try to save him if there's a way? It's not like Edge Shot or Best Jeanist's quirks are particularly effective against Shigaraki by themselves. With Mirko knocked about like a toy, Hado and Suneater punched into unconsciousness and Mirio left alone because he can't do anything to Shigaraki with only his Permeation, there's literally nothing they can do anymore. They've exhausted all their options and the existing ones are either to hope for Izuku to return NOW or try to revive the only hero who managed to threaten Shigaraki at all. So no. It's not a dumb decision. It was ALL they could do.

I just wanna point out that when Mirio is talking about how no one has been lost yet to Izuku, the scene shifts to show Monoma and Aizawa outside. And they're holding hands. They transitioned from just touching the backs of their wrists at the start of the fight, to holding hands while desperately hoping that nothing else goes wrong. I love that little detail. They're both so stressed and full of worry that they instinctively seek comfort from each other, while also making absolutely sure that they're still touching so Monoma can continuously use Erasure past his time limit of 5 minutes.

Izuku using Kudo's (the second One For All user) quirk will never cease to give me chills. The quirk Gearshift itself was so simple and hardly threatening at all when used by Kudo when he was still alive, but because the quirk itself grew along together with One For All, it became so broken that it's enough to turn the tide of the fight against Shigaraki (with All For One in charge of the body). The physics of the quirk itself are beyond me to comprehend fully, but I'll still try to explain what Izuku did in ep 13 in simple terms for those who don't quite get it. Goodness knows I had to do research just to write this comment. Seeing as Gearshift allows the user to change the speed of whoever he touches, the first time he activates the quirk, he presumably uses it to speed himself up and combines his increase in speed (progressively, from second gear, to third gear, to top gear) with the raw power contained in One For All (the enhancement of all his physical abilities like super strength, etc.) to land a devastating hit on Shigaraki the first time. This is when Mirio comments that "the sound came later". After that, he uses Gearshift: Overdrive, which I assume to be speed boost from Gearshift + raw power from One For All + stockpiled kinetic energy from Fa Jin (you can see it in the arm he uses to activate Gearshift, it's glowing red after the first time he did that same movement). He pulls out 120% of his power by using this combo and drives Shigaraki into the ground with Detroit Smash. After Overdrive, he loses the stockpiled kinetic energy from Fa Jin and has to build it up again. And he does that by using Detroit Smash: Quintuple. AND GET THIS. You can see 5 rings of impact around Shigaraki when he uses that move, and you can HEAR that he hits him 5 consecutive times right after that in the form of explosions. It's insane. His next move is to use Overdrive again. And he can, because now his arm has collected more kinetic energy from the Quintuple move he used (you can see his right arm glowing red again after Quintuple). But at this point, Shigaraki has gotten somewhat used to his movements with Gearshift, so he tries to predict what he'll do next. Izuku overcomes that by shifting into Low Gear: he slows himself down just when Shigaraki thought he caught him. And since Gearshift is a quirk that allows the user to bounce from one speed to another WITHOUT any resistance to the change in motion (aka he can go from crazy high speeds to crazy low speeds without the concept of inertia holding him back or hurting his physical body due to the instant change in speeds, which would normally be impossible), he can literally speed blitz Shigaraki. As in, the laws of physics don't work on him when he's using Gearshift to reach Overdrive state (as mentioned by the second One For All user, Kudo, who says Izuku's fist in this state can even "change the way the world works"). Once he catches Shigaraki off guard, he uses Danger Sense to tell where he's coming from, Smokescreen to blind him momentarily, Float to move up and hover above Shigaraki, Blackwhip to yank him up and draw him in, AND Fa Jin (from Quintuple) to go into Gearshift: Overdrive again. This last hit once again draws out 120% of Izuku's power, and he finally manages to break down all of Shigaraki's defenses to blow a hole straight into him.

The thing is, the spider heteromorph who was spurring everyone on is a part of the Paranormal Liberation Front. The things he's saying are literally just to move the 15000 strong crowd they have against the heroes for their own selfish agenda. There may be some sincerity in what he says, since he's probably experienced the discrimination before, but in that moment, his intention was far from one of revolution and social change. The crowd is here to free Kurogiri, not fight back against the oppression they've faced from people as heteromorphs. And they don't even realise that they're being used by the Paranormal Liberation Front members because they're so consumed by their anger and feelings of injustice. They're just taking revenge, because like Shoji said, their outrage at being discriminated against has NOTHING to do with attacking the hospital where Kurogiri is now. They're not benefiting in the slightest from freeing him, and they're endangering the lives of the patients and civilians who are in the city and the hospital by going on this rampage. They're just vessels and numbers to overpower the heroes who are trying to prevent a full blown disaster in the form of Shigaraki becoming the new demon lord. The hints of heteromorph discrimination are not super obvious, but there are instances where we can see it happening. Spinner's backstory is one of them, as we've seen him talk about how he came to become Spinner after seeing Stain on tv and pulling himself out of depression and fear of going out. We've also seen in movie 2, Heroes Rising, when the villains attack and Shoji is defending on the beach, the villain called Chimera held Shoji up by the face and said smth along the lines of "You look like a monster. Don't people ever tell you how disgusting you look?". Those are all I can remember off the top of my head. But diving into Shoji's backstory here is the converging point of all these tiny interactions that hint towards superhuman society's prejudices against heteromorphs. The fact that he, a village kid heteromorph, was bullied and ostracised so badly that he carries permanent physical scars of his treatment, but still is a hero? That is very meaningful. Shoji has always been a level-headed, logical, albeit quiet guy. Him covering his scars on his face and neck just to stop people from thinking he's trying to be a hero so he can take revenge on those who wronged him before speaks volumes of his noble intentions. He acknowledges that the way society thinks of heteromorphs cannot be changed in just one generation. It needs time before people start changing their minds fully and accepting them. The newer generations in the city are already changing. And the act of this 15000 strong crowd storming the hospital WILL set the progress back by decades. Because all people will see is their violence, their hatred, the way they hurt innocent civilians. It's bringing back all the reasons why people used to and still fear heteromorphs. Shoji's desperate speech to appeal to the heteromorphs not to succumb to the idea of revenge and revolution for the sake of satisfying their anger shows his sincerity and his stance on how to get the world to change. And I admire him for that. Cannon is right when he says that Shoji has always been an underrated character. Him getting his time to shine along with Koda (finally!) was the highlight of the episode for me.

LAST THING I WANNA SAY I really REALLY want to give a huge shoutout to the VAs of MHA. They have done a phenomenal job so far. Specifically, I've been wanting to praise Izuku's VA Yamashita Daiki for the stellar job he's been doing. This season REALLY shows how wide his range is. From Izuku's pre-One For All squeaky tones, newbie hero voice cracks and high pitched squealing to fully fledged hero Izuku's raspy tones, chill-inducing growls and matured gravel, Yamashita Daiki has gone above and beyond portraying Izuku's level of maturity and his development through the series. Izuku growling out "Second's Transmission" and "Gearshift: Overdrive" will forever be imprinted in my ear canals. He sounds so good. I'm ascending whenever I watch ep 13 JWHBHEB Anyway... It took me a whole 5 hours to finish watching this reaction because of all the comments I left. But it was worth it. Your reactions are always entertaining and this mini binge did NOT disappoint. And if you're thinking that the events so far have been crazy already? You're so not ready for what comes next. I look forward to seeing y'all lose your minds later down the line. cannon you have a great point with bakugo and his quirk: while explosion is absolutely a powerful base quirk, it requires immense control and effort to use it the way bakugo does. both deku (different OFA combinations like blackwhip + fajin) and bakugo (cluster, AP shot, and howitzer impact) are incredibly creative and intelligent when it comes to using their powers, and most normal people wouldn't even know where to begin with these powers/use it in a way that wastes its potential. most people would just fire off a big explosion, but bakugo condenses all of that sweat and uses it in a variety of ways (the grenades on his forearms). in conclusion - the quirk is amazing by itself but its really the user that makes it OP, in this case bakugo, and deku for one for all

The heteromorph thing was only hinted on during the show: In season 1-4 Shoji mainly hangs out with Tokoyami und Koda and is weary of Mineta. In season 5, Pony from 1B basically calls Shoji gross and Shoji says "people have always been afraid of me, I'm used to it". However Horkoshi uses really realistic geopolitics.to tell the story. What i mean is, in times of crisis racism and xenophobia rise due to people banding together and radicalising each other out of fear and uncertainty. That's been the 1920s and the 2020s. It's also Hori re-telling a Malcom X vs MLK mentality, that has been the main inspiration of X-Men too and ironically he somewhat predicted civil behaviour during Covid (...remember 2020 guys). Not only that but countries supporting dictorships for economical intrests is a tale as old as time. History always repeats itself. Also the attack name "Hitchcock birds" is based on Alfred Hitchcocks "the birds" a movie from 1963 that revolutionsied special effects and the horror genre. BUT IT'S A KIDS-SHOW!

IMO, endeavor vs AFO is just like erwins speech. the sub is incredible of course, and the VA cooked super hard, but the dub just hits different. 100% cannon, the beginning of the show doesn't really shine light on the many many problems in mha's society. its more so introducing the concept of a hero and what quirks really are, and then as the seasons progress, horikoshi gradually unveils more about how the quirk society really is and all the dark aspects of it - overhaul reassembling eri, twice's plummet to insanity and split personality disorder, toga's quirk affected personality, the whole public safety commission and their shady dealings, lady nagant and hawks, the racism against heteromorphs and classism against people without quirks. so so many problems in mha's world that can be reflected into our own as well

Bakugo is my favorite character. He’s always been so strong and seeing him realize Deku is beyond him and Shiggy is disregarding him, it hurts so much. It makes S7 so hard to watch 😭 rewatching might hit even harder. I really can’t wait for the geks to rewatch one day, hopefully with friends or the gek girls. Specially since in the beginning they thought that there wasn’t a need to theorize with MHA, so they never questioned Dabi or Aoyama lol, and Bakugo feels different on a rewatch too, I’m sure when rewatching they’ll notice a lot of things!

Back when the first user had it he could only use it on small projectiles, like boosting bullets etc. But with OFA powering it up, Deku can apply it to his whole body (even at a cellular level), which is why he’s able to do those Transmission combos and stack it with Fa Jin for Overdrive. The different “gears” are the levels of acceleration he can shift through (like a car), with higher gears pushing him into crazier speed. The trade-off is that it puts a strain on his body, so if he pushes it too far he ends up gasping for oxygen and can get bad recoil damage.

I think with endeavor most people like him as a hero just not as a person overall kind of like shoto said a few seasons ago. But seeing him trying to atone is a good journey to see because some actions can't be forgiven so all you can do is atone. I personally don't see a lot of atonement arcs in anime mainly redemption arcs, but in this case he knows he can't really be redeemed.

I like Endeavor simply because it would be easier for him to say screw it and give up trying to change, he can’t change the past but it’s clear he has changed or else I think his old pride would’ve told him to make his family feel bad for not forgiving him, or he would’ve thought he deserved praise for fighting this battle, but instead he calls it his duty and shows remorse towards his family. Endeavor shows no matter how much bad a person has done, it’s always up to yourself to turn back, even if it’s a harder path, it’s still better than never changing. I wish there were more arcs like his in anime, where changing for the better doesn’t mean things are better for yourself, maybe only better for those around you

I also feel so bad for Monoma who's basically forced to look at how Bakugo dies and not having the choice to look away without Shigaraki getting his quirk back. I get that everyone saw him die, but like how Bakugo is still a kid (which was also so sad to see him go down like that), so is Monoma. Aizawa not being able to do anything too and seeing how that happened and how the others were almost able reach him exactly like how Midoriya wasn't able to reach him on time too in season 3 before getting kidnapped. I think it’s fair to either hate or love Endeavor. Even now after everything, he’s not a character who can just be “forgiven.” Like the story says, all he can really do is try to atone, and whether or not he deserves forgiveness is something only his family (and watchers) can personally decide. He’s fs a great character with some incredible moments, and I get why people like him for that. But that doesn’t mean everyone has to, because at the end of the day the awful things he did don’t go away just because he’s atoning or a cool hero. That’s kind of the point, nobody owes him anything whether you like his growth or not.

Who would y'all say is the best written character in MHA? For me it's Endeavor. He has an amazing arc and great character development! I love that what he's seeking isn't forgiveness or redemption but atonement for what he's done to his family!!! He'll never be able to fully atone for his sins but the beauty of his character is watching him struggle to do so.

Mine is really similar. It’s hard for me to place S2 though because I am sooo biased towards the Sports Festival arc lol. I guess: S7>S6>S4>S2>S3>S1>S5 I loved S4 a lot more on this rewatch, and objectively it is better than S2, so it went up the ranks for me.

Endeavor is really well written for sure! For me it'd be Bakugo. Like he's setup to seem very one dimensional and then as he develops you see how introspective and intelligent he is. His breakdown in his fight with deku is one of my favorite moments, where he blames himself. So satisfying to see him mature throughout.

V, idk tbh I enjoy the second half of the show way more. S5 set up everything and that training arc is the best one imo, and then u get Deku awakening, Todoroki family stuff and MVA. Very underrated. I really just think it’s because of the S3 training arc after that put it below 5 for me. But Deku vs Muscular is the reason I fell in love with MHA so idk.

Forest camp (3x4; Deku vs Msucular) and Raid (3x11; All Might vs AFO) arcs in S3 had probably the most emotional moments of the show for me. It’s what made me like S3 a bit more. Hard to pick though since they’re both so good.

And that is why he is such an amazing character. How hard is it to write a character whose purpose is literally to be judged by his family and the viewer. His arc is one of atonement and whether he is forgiven or not is left completely to the viewer and both answers are correct. That is writing of the highest level.

I always remember seeing that sequence in the All Might vs Nomu, Deku 100% Smash, All Might vs All for One and it always looked cool, but then seeing it as the power literally passing through the generations to it's current user is just amazing.

Endeavor messed up Toya’s mental state so bad that even All For One gave up on manipulating him. Even the Demon Lord himself couldn’t penetrate the hold that Endeavor had on Toya’s mind. Says a lot. Endeavor may not have been able to surpass All Might, but he was able to surpass All For One at one thing: fucking up a kid’s mind. And we also get confirmation that Dabi saw his endeavor against his family as a suicide mission. He doesn’t value his life at all because he has been conditioned to see himself as a failure because he wasn’t able to fulfill the purpose of his birth. Endeavor neglecting him after giving him so much attention when drilling into him how important surpassing All Might was only served to make Toya feel like his existence was pointless. Dabi serves as a foil for Shoto and Endeavor. He is all of their flaws taken to the extreme. He is Shoto that never got past the resentment towards their father and was consumed with hatred. He is Endeavor whose sole focus was accomplishing his goal of surpassing All Might except Dabi’s sole focus is making Endeavor suffer.

Which character is the epitome of wasted potential? For me it's Stars and Stripes, a brand new very charismatic character that charms the audience in just 2 episodes with a very interesting quirk is connected to All Might in the past. Horikoshi could've done more for the world building of MHA if he chose to expand on her with just simple character interactions between our cast

He might not be the most complex, but he carries the whole message of the show with him and spreads it to every single character in the show. It is insane how much influence he has over the MHA universe. Compare that to Yuji who most of the times feels like a side characters and you will really feel the difference.

I'm not a fan of the word but I find Toga's whole thing really cringy. I don't like the combination of her childish looks with her creepy love/blood thing. I don't like how she impacts the show and characters, I dislike how Ochako gets dragged with her for the whole show, I find the "but but I want to saaave her" super weak and just not my thing when done like this, they have no real connection it's just "the hero thing" which is neither relateble nor it inspires me, I find it very silly and naive, it's done better with Deku and Shigaraki but even then I'm not a fan. Toga just isn't interesting when she's on screen because of the "I love Deku and Uraraka" sideplot, I don't like how the show forces her storyline on the viewer at unwanted times, I don't like how she can magically keep up with Deku when she's not using her quirk. What I do like is how she impacts Twice, because it's too weirdos with a unique relationship which is interesting, but when Deku is getting pulled to fight Toga alongside Uraraka in a middle of a war and I have to hear Toga declaring her dumb love for the tenth time making Deku blush and get dorky while Uraraka also blushes? Im like what am I watching here, this isn't serious. I get her quirk makes her go cookoo in the head but the way it serves the story is weak imo. I don't want to spoil but the way the Toga-Uraraka thing wraps up is incredibly stupid to me, a melodramatic soap opera that had no business existing.

One piece has never had a single fight last for 50 epsiodes. There’s one that could be argued as such but it had multiple breaks/conclusions with events in between. Other than that a fight has not lasted longer than 20 eps so stop the cap please. And that’s also with poor chapter/per ep pacing while MHA has very good pacing with that.

What the hell, I thought my eyes were playing a trick on me. 1200+ comments is insane LOL! This is probably just going to get lost in the sauce but I'll share my two cents anyway I guess. 1) Showing baby Toya and baby Shoto as Shoto "killed" him was so brutal, I remember it making me genuinely upset that these kids even had to go through any of this in the first place 2) when I first started the show, I never could have thought that I would be so invested in Endeavour of all people. When you see him fighting AFO, you just can't help but be on the edge of your seat hoping that somehow he makes it, and then when he goes all out it's so freaking epiccc! 3) watching you guys have a gradual mental breakdown while noticing all the sudden Bakugo death flags popping up one after the other was kind of hilarious because man, been there done that but that shit still hurts. You can only sit in silence and stare into the void after that episode ends. 4) Freaking Mirio and his stupid ass BUTT 😭 It truly kills me how Shigaraki actually stops in his tracks because he is also so genuinely confused with wtf is happening in that moment LMAO and Mirio's absolutely terrified face on top of that 😭 5) Bro I didn't remember episode 13 being SO GOOD WHAT THE HELL! The fight was sooo cool and you guys' enthusiasm only made it 10x more hype to watch again. I was one of the people who hated MHA even when I haven’t watched it yet because of the memes, the hate posts and reviews until I gave it a chance last year. Although during the first episodes, I thought that it wasn’t worth watching because of Deku’s frequent crying. But I finished watching it and I can now say that, we were just too used with anime’s where the MC’s already too overpowered in the first eps. Meanwhile HeroAca shows the struggles and challenges one must face to be powerful. It’s a journey that I came to enjoy. As a viewer, we became part of not only the MC but the whole characters growth even the villains except for AFO. He’s just scary a and the greatest manipulator of all time.

I'm really interested in talking about all of the downsides about Deku, but it's just received so poorly, people take it so personally when you say anything critical about Deku that it's not really worth it. Nice of him to show his face though, Toga was just so powerful the way that she took him out of commission for so long, I think All Might would have succumbed to that, as well. I really look forward to Deku empathizing with the guy that murdered his friend and thousands of others, maybe he can try to save him, as well, that would be on brand.

In a way the fight between Shoto and Dabi reminded me about the fight between Azula and Zuko, especially with the music too. Both fights weren't meant to be fought with super loud and cool sound track, but with tragedy, especially with the background story they both had. Some people are confused about todorokis new move, thinking it's just a weird combination of fire and ice but it's actually ammonium phosphate that he's creating which can be found in fire extinguishers and is pretty good at stopping fires. My fav songs that feel most MHA would be THE DAY, Sora ni Utaeba, and Peace Sign. But when I consider visuals I really love Odd Future, Hitamuki, and Bokurano. But all that said — the best visuals, pacing, and song choice together makes Curtain Call my overall favorite 🤩
