Love the scene where Frieren tells Fern "But you chose magic" In my eyes i see it as her telling herself that as well, since she thinks of herself and Fern to be similar. Magic is not just as simple as casting a spell in the world of Frieren it holds different meaning for different individuals and i love that. Rewatching i just realised the show passes time almost the way Frieren as an elf does. Like in the first episode we skipped 50 years in minutes that's probably what it's like for Frieren which is so crazy. The music in this show never fails in making me tear up the scene with blue weed flowers is so pretty 😭

Its so interesting to see how Frieren recognizes that she wishes she would have taken more time to get to know the people she traveled with. I like how she does remember things about Himmel and searches for the flower to plant at his statue. We can also see Fern's frustration at doing menial things and spending long stretches of time. I like that Frieren recognizes it, but she still isn't in much of a rush because for her a few months or years is merely a few moments to her. I'm excited for the episode 3 reaction

It’s weird how the pacing is so insane in the first couple episodes, but it’s done so well that it doesn’t feel rushed. It’s almost like how Frieren experiences the world. Years go by in the blink, yet she’s very leisurely with her time because of that.

I guess it also might be cause for romance, I read manga, not watch anime, so it goes faster to me in manga. Maybe this just isn't your kinda vibe. Perhaps you prefer high-stakes dramas. Because saying that the characters here don't have any ideologies or themes is just wrong. Frieren's long life-span gives her the ability to live as slowly as possible, which comes into direct conflict with Fern's need to live fast & help others.

That's kind of my issue too, people will be like oh this just isn't for you, you clearly don't get it or don't like fantasy. Which isn't true at all, I love fantasy, lord of the rings is my all time favorite movie/book series, I liked the Tom Bombadil stuff I'm not against slowing down and taking your time. its a very tranquil show, very peaceful, the writing is very sweet. I feel like its going against the archetype of a story having a central conflict that drives the story. most stories are built on the conflict but so far this story is rejecting that archetype. its like jack says, I’m not sure we will see a central conflict play out. but I’m excited to see where it goes either way, especially since its so highly rated

the show doesn't have any issues, i think this show just isn't for you. if you are already dogging on it this early then shonen like stuff is probably more what you want, crazy storylines with crazy characters who have crazy strong motivations which is all setup really early, which is cool coz there is a ton of shows like this out there. frieren is just a really chill show with a lot of slice of life elements to it. its set up post demon king slaying which i'm guessing is the kind of story you were looking for, a big bad who has to be defeated by a group of cool characters with beautiful motivations and crazy stakes on their shoulders, but this isn't it and it doesn't have to be it. a story can exist post/without the crazy stuff and still be pretty good. saying there isn't like a theme or anything setup is a bit wild coz a bunch is already here. we have frieren's quest for understanding, the introduction of fern, a whole world and magic system we haven't explored, we don't know who frieren really is, questions about himmel and co., what are the duo gonna be doing, we don't know who fern really is, how is the duo gonna influence each other, are we gonna meet/add any other characters to the group, etc.... there is a lot to look forward to and its still only 2 episodes in. i just think this ain't your thing, which is okay, fast paced action heavy stuff would suit you more and luckily there is a ton out there u can look for rather than throw slander at something you haven't really experienced yet

"It's what Himmel the Hero would've done." One of the best lines ever. I remember hearing about a story where a man in Taiwan stopped a knife attack and when asked why he intervened, he said he believed Himmel would've done the same. It's not suprising that Himmel as a character would inspire heroic courage.
