tbh i totally get carter’s feelings…season 3 used to be my absolute favorite when it first came out (i was also super young), but rewatching it now with you guys made me realize it’s not as strong as the other seasons. yes, it tackles darker themes, but one of the biggest issues is how much it leans on comedic moments and a few pretty pointless subplots (looking at you, terminator dude). when the show focuses on the relationships between characters, that’s when it really shines! hopper with eleven or joyce, billy and his mom, even steve and robin during their deep convos. it’s a shame they didn’t center that as much this season, because they do it so well, and the finale really drives that home. i still full-on sobbed during hop’s speech even though i already knew what was coming :(

Ill be honest when i watched S3 when it first came out it was my favorite season. Now its my least favorite season. The narratives felt so tacky and i can usually ignore them but now that my brain is no longer complete mush it became more difficult. Still a fun season with some great stakes and highs, but not as great as i remembered. Still doesnt detract from my first watch thru and reacting to it with the boys 🥹

Hahaha, I'm not a shipper. But I think a lot of people don't notice things unless they're handled to them in a silver platter. Mike and Eleven relationship never made sense to me. They're so bad for each other and they don't know how to communicate at all. The whole reason Mike and El dated is because he met her while LOOKING FOR WILL. People forget how Mike never gave a frick about El and even yelled at her and said she should be put back in the insane asylum after finding Will. Mike never loved Eleven, he has love for her but it's not the love people think it is. You need to rewatch the show and focus on Mike, Eleven, and Will and see the parallels and how different Mike treats them and express his feelings to them. It's not war, it's just a fact that I think the producers themselves put in front of everyone's eyes and they're ignoring it or not seeing it

I think some of the downs that Carter is talking about wouldn't have been that big of a deal if you've seen the show while it was coming out weekly. There was 2 years between S2 and S3, so them being grown up, and the tone shift due to that probably felt more natural in the weekly watch, instead of a binge watch.

Yes it's immature and they're young but there was a clear parallel this season. If we go back to El breaking up with Mike versus Mike and Will fighting and how both scenes were shot and the consequences that came after we can see a clear image. El didn't care and was having fun, meanwhile Will destroyed his precious castle and tore their pictures together. Mike was the only one that took care of Will very deeply since season 1, he was with him at the hospital, and also in the shed during that intimate scene where his mother, brother, and Mike, his childhood bestfriend were sharing their memories. Whenever Will seems uncomfortable it's always Mike checking up on him. I don't think that was done for no reason, the duffer brothers are very intentional

S4? Definitely not the best objectively. S1 is objectively the best story wise, writing wise, acting wise. All the actors felt so genuine and the story was airtight with none of the groups doing anything that was boring or too far removed from the main plot

This isn’t a spoiler please read Geks. The mind flayer isn’t dead and you’re not supposed to think it is (although it could’ve been a bit more clear). The flesh monster that resembles the mind flayer isn’t the actual mind flayer, it’s a body that’s controlled by the mind flayer. The real mind flayer is made of smoke and never left the upside down. Don’t forget we saw the mind flayer still in the upside down at the end of season 2. The bit of it that was in Will was never the full body. Even tho that part was stuck in the real world the actual body of the mind flayer was still in the upside down. It never left. Therefore when they closed the gate in season 3, the mind flayer doesn’t die, it just loses its connection to the flesh monster body it was controlling. Please make sure the couch knows this so there isn’t any confusion on the current state of the mind flayer

I'm not going to come at ya like the rest of the folks here, but I do whole heartedly disagree with your opinion "Mike never cared about El" and the only time he blew up on her that season you're referring to is because she just used her powers to hurt Lucas when she thought she was protecting Mike. Very important context there lol and he immediately apologized after he calmed down and is willing to die for her on multiple occasions, while showing nothing but care. The entire season 2 is him being depressed and wanting to see her again, and this season he got to finally spend as much time as he wanted with her and it was constant. I have no idea how you can be at this point in the show and think he just doesn't care about her at all lol But your other comment I think showed your angle for saying that. You think he should be with another character and has more feelings for said character, which I'm not going to dive too deep into at this current point of the story and ideally you should probably hold off as well until the next season, since nothing is confirmed yet or being explored at this point of season 3. Let's not hindsight merchant here as they love to say lol I'm definitely down to have that conversation later on in their watch.

tldr: I’m sorry but there are multiple moments and aspects of S3 that are a harder watch than that one little episode in S2 (easily skippable, might I add, if u dislike it that much for rewatches—whereas S3’s you have to sit through it all because it’s spread out in every episode and/or entire storylines). For example, Hopper’s storyline was a tough watch entire first-half of the season….. now maybe you loved it and good for you, but there’s many extremely valid reasons other people did not. What this season did well, it did great tho! (vibes, visuals, the intensity/fight scenes, and this finale, and honestly the Kid’s storyline lowkey carried) BUT S2 smashes S3 writing-wise and plot-wise, and that’s ok. Love s3 to death, and still a great season of television—but definitely the weakest of all 4 thus far. And you’re right, when this season came out in 2019 literally EVERYONE was trashing s2 and raving about s3, saying it’s the best season of the show by far. There’s a reason only recently, some people are now coming out of the woodworks saying “yeah, this maybe isn’t that perfect of a season” after many many rewatches 😭

First time i watched 3rd season i enjoyed it a lot, probably more than 2nd season but less than 1st. Maybe part of the reason is that as a russian its cool to have some characters speak your language, this time it was kind of a chore watching this season, its too much over the place, they should ve focused nore on billy's arc and less on goofy parts.

Carter is very valid on his ultimate hatred for this season. Worst season in tv history. Well that's jokes but this season was my favorite even still in 2022 but I guess I've grown old and the useless dumb stuff, dumb jokes and pointless conversations really don't hit for me. Like in my opinion, season 3 was the same as season 2 but with a different font. They both had the mind flayer as a main foe(shadow in ss2, fleshy in ss3), someone important was controlled by the Mindflayer (Will in ss2, Billy in ss3), they all had to meet up towards the end of the each season, and had to close a gate to cut off the hivemind (hopper & el in ss2, hopper & joyce in ss3). The details were different but the plot was the same. Nonetheless, ya'lls reaction to season 4 is gonna be so epic, I'm literally gonna cry

I am sorry, but the whole time watching I kept thinking that This is the most stereotypical American episode of the whole show, like they were playing into stereotypes. Malls, 4th of July, fireworks, evil Russian, monsters, car racing and car crashes, guns and shooting (esp that Nancy scene, she should have aimed for tires), main character's long stares instead of running inside to be safe, police and back up arriving when it is not needed anymore, moving out scenes with memory reminiscing, goofy news segment to wrap it up. Like Dustin and Suzie singing was cute, but we needed that code faster. If Hop and Joyce were faster with the code and switching off the machine, Billy's death, the whole stopping monster stuff would have been avoided. A lot of cliche scenes. Now I remember why I stopped watching after this season, I hated that they killed Hopper just for the drama. Hopefully S4 is better. Murrey speaks really good Russian, but nobody would have believed he was a new addition to Russian troops with that accent. W Steve with that save stopping the car

I hadn't seen this season since first watching it, i'd always watch a couple of clips (the neverending story part is very iconic haha), but yeah the comedic moments ran on way too long especially in moments that were meant to be serious which wouldn't happen in season 1 or even 2 tbh. Obviously, with the 4th of july theme plus we're getting deeper into the "fun, colourful times" of the 80's it makes sense for a tone shift, but upon a rewatch, season 1 is probably my favourite so far. El and Billy carried the season for me too. Like the comments have said you guys will defo like season 4 a lot more i'm excited!! :)

I will definitely have to check them out! I've watched lots of video essays but none about stranger things surprisingly. I feel like they're projecting previous conversations elsewhere with other fans onto you which isn't fair for sure. It should be obvious to anyone how much he cares about the other character as well, it his one of his people after all. There is love for both and all the trauma bonding and history there can be lol but he definitely loves El.

Hopper came around in the end 🥲 The Hopper in the beginning of the season wrote that freaking emotional letter. He was there the whole time they just had to make him extra goofy/grumpy for most the season. Bring on s4!

My favorite season is still probably season 1. The show itself is quite good but I would not be even watching it without Geks. I saw the first season on my own but I started watching from quite beginning of season 2 with only them. It has some huge moments that are the top moments in tv history for me but overall it doesn't really suck me in like some of my favorite shows.

Honestly the first episode of season 4 made me question if I really like this new vibe. Had a hard time connecting and put off seeing episode 2 for a week. Once I finished episode 2 I was locked in and once I finished I can’t imagine stranger things without this season. It’s now the season I think of first when the show comes to mind.
