You guys are hitting the stuff that's drawn out by the anime unnecessarily. It's the reason a lot of people were asking for One Pace. It's not all bad, this section is the worst of it I remember, so hopefully you are on your way away from the worst. I can't believe people are defending cruel and unusual punishment in 2025, that's actually insane. The torture in Impel Down is stuff that should never be done to anyone, even the worst criminals. But they should also keep in mind who the world government deems "criminals". Someone who merely looked at a celestial dragon sideways could end up there. Would they deserve to be tortured? Luffy is not captured in Impel Down, but he and his entire crew would be if the gov caught them. They at least have to recognize that our favorite characters, who are technically some of the worst "criminals" on the planet don't deserve to be tortured. I totally understand why McKay is so focused on that and upset about it.

These specific types of scenes were always used as background gags in the manga, but in the anime they do them sequentially just to fill for time. Impel Down in the manga is 24 chapters, but the anime is 22 episodes, so Toei is already getting real close to stretching 1 chapter to 20 minutes

40:33 Luffy at this point is basically an ambitious loyal ant 🐜 who throws tantrums… He only defeated crocodile by himself after previously losing to him. And then it took the whole crew and an army of shadows to help Luffy just about take down Moria. So that’s only two warlords Luffy barely beat. And the further he got into the grand line the harder it got just like Mihawk said when he first met Zoro, the east blue where our journey started was the weakest of the four seas. We are now half way into the grand line so we can see how he measures up to other people - and it gives us an idea as to how much crazier it can get

I'm with you, Cannon! I really dislike it when characters pick their nose. It’s a rather outdated trope to show someone as crude, unrefined, or a bit stupid. Unfortunately, Oda never seems to let go of these old habits, so I guess we’ll keep seeing them throughout the series. I also find snot pretty gross, though it’s fine in crying scenes or sth like the tear gas scene here. That's kinda realistic. Just not all the time. That said, I actually like Magellan (quirks aside). The moment he locked in, it was basically over! I think you’re also underestimating him. He’s definitely stronger than some Warlords. After all, he’s guarding some of the most dangerous people in the world. I’d say he’s somewhere around Vice Admiral level, maybe even approaching Admiral-tier strength, though not quite there.

I'm in the same boat, not a huge Star Wars fan but I find the lightsaber and the odm gear some of the coolest weapons of all time in all of fiction. (ODM IS SO UNDERRATED) but I wish they were into Tron because the identity discs are the next best thing imo!

Impel down is like a 6/10 on pacing. Some parts could be improved but really overall it's not so bad it's no longer enjoyable, the story ramping up faster and faster really just supercedes the minor pacing problems

A few years ago I picked up a semi combat acceptable (you can swing had just don't slam it around) lightsaber and it's actually the coolest thing ever. They're basically all the same between different companies and have the motion controls. I've used it for a fight too and it held up just fine

If you were to remove all the filler padding it would make a HUGE difference. Compare it with one pace & this will rank to shit. Most of this arc is filler and the only reason you’re tolerating it is because it’s mixed in with peak. Reality is that if u remove all the padding it’s WAY better

But still, the pacing isn't horrible enough to genuinely bore me here, there were definitely some past arcs where I legit skipped the geks reaction on some episodes cause I was just too bored and drained. Well yeah. Maybe it's because Thriller Bark had some horrible cuts with One Pace and they have a bitter taste of it still. It also took off at least Luffy barking scene which is obviously not important for the plot and if it's not in manga no big deal. it is not Jack hate. I agree. I also am in the same boat - I have been rewatching OP (as someone caught up to like 1138) with 2 friends that have never seen it, and they're currently at 407 (about to see what happened to the crew after Sabaody). I have genuinely decided to not watch a lot of the next few arcs with them, even though it's so peak to me. I just think they will have a better experience watching it and theorising more fully between themselves. I'm always just sat there knowing everything and I don't think we can fully discuss the show as I'm always talking with some hindsight. Better to just let loose. What makes it worse is that Jack can sometimes correct them in ways he doesn't need to. And don't get me wrong, I do the same. I will tell my friends "trust me this arc is so peak" constantly which makes them less surprised at the hype moments, and more disappointed at the lows. Or more focused on "when it gets good" than enjoying the ride. I would rather not affect them over the next few arcs.
