That’s not Boa’s VA. And even though Reina Ueda has a huge filmography, I couldn’t find any characters you’d actually know. She voiced Shizuka from Takopi (the main character) and REZE❤️❤️❤️❤️, but you haven’t seen Reze and you only watched one episode of Takopi What’s crazy is that in Frieren she doesn’t sound like either of those roles at all, so her range is actually insane. She sounds closer to Boa than her own other roles

15:07 Jack, the reason why Methode still tried is because Frieren follows MMORPG/D&D logic. “Resistance” to a type of magic for someone like Frieren means she can still be affected by that magic, but the impact is weakened. she might take reduced damage or feel a softer effect, yet it still works on her to some degree. What you’re thinking of is being IMMUNE. Immunity or invulnerability means that type of magic cannot affect Frieren at all. If she’s resistant, powerful enough spells can still break through. if she’s immune, no amount of that magic (no matter how strong) can touch her.

Frieren isn’t immune to restraint or hypnosis magic, she just said that she’s resistent to it and it takes someone with greater amounts of mana than her to pull it off. Methode, the woman that tested Frieren using her magic said "normally it should work, barring a large difference in mana." So I’m guessing the suppressed mana she saw on Frieren was inferior to her own hence why she was surprised by Frieren’s "immunity" to her magic.

Ubel is like borderline psychotic, but also a genius. When it comes to magic everything is by feel to her. I think it's implied she doesn't study the mathematics or science behind magic she's just naturally gifted in magic by the way she sees the world. Her character further explores the nature of magic and it's depths as a system in the world of Frieren. That's what makes her interesting imo

The magic system in this show is well thought out, and they do a good job of explaining how humanity’s magic changes and adapts. It’s probably my favorite magic system, at least in anime

shows like Frieren are much more enjoyable to watch when keeping an open mind about all the different characters and lore tidbits. This isn’t Solo Leveling where there is ZERO thought put into side characters so it’s interesting to learn about them instead of just calling them bums and zoning out somewhat whenever they’re on screen.

it's so cool how they slowly show the viewer how magic works in the current era. most shows would've dumped all the info in the first few episodes but we start with only frieren's old school perspective of magic and now near the end of the first season that we see what magic is like for the average mage and the circumstances that led to it. the fact that visual imagination is a key part of magic, considering that human mages like fern and flamme are capable of being demons with huge mana pools it seems like the established mage society has basically stifled itself from reaching similar heights.

I dont think calling them bums means they aren't keeping an open mind. In fact, I think it's perfectly normal to hate or just not care about a character when they're first introduced. Like Jack said, that's what character development is for, to make you come to like them. I swear the name calling is just for jokes, I highly doubt they're serious about it, and even if they are, based on past shows, they come around eventually. And yeah they get distracted on occasion, but that's what we're here for, to clarify things.

I disagree, taking such a "prove yourself buddy" stance from the get go towards anyone who isn’t our main group creates a bias that makes it artificially harder to come around to them when it doesn’t need to be that way. I get it if a character straight up shits on the ones we already came to know and love, but 99% of these characters imo haven’t done anything yet that warrants such reactions.

It's about teamwork, the smart thing like with Denken was have a teammate you are weak against kill your replica. But you have to work together and reveal your weaknesses to the other mage's in the competition. Most wouldn't want to do that. People are selfish. Frieren is an elf so she has resistances that humans don't and knows old magic. She teaches Fern basic magic and to quote Fern at the beginning of the competition, "She said it was enough to beat the mages of this era." But it's also Frieren's version of "basic" magic and she teaches Fern mana control. Also, everyone is staring at Frieren but Fern is also a genius monster.

While it's true that most of the characters haven't done anything, I think this show creates that air of tension/suspense very well when introducing new characters, that it makes you immediately wary of them. It's harder to notice it in hindsight when you've already met them and know what's going to happen. On my first watch I was suspicious of everyone from the get go, like the Geks were at the start, so it makes sense to me for them to want proof of good intentions. But if that was not the case for you then I guess we can agree to disagree lol

I really hope you four watch the next two episodes back to back. Aside from the first four episodes, I'd say 25+26 are the only other episodes that should really be watched together. They work very well as a double feature and, even if you don't drop them simultaneously, I at least hope you watch them in the same recording session.

I like Ubel a lot but Toga is also my favourite MHA character so that's no surprise... I just like female characters that differ from the status quo of "cute and nice" and also have a lot of depth to their character, an evil/morally grey girl will always be more interesting than a male version of the same archetype to me because it drifts far from what you normally expect from female anime characters

In case you missed it, Sense (the hair first class mage) said that the golems are made by Lernen the white haired old mage (First class mage), the same one who investigated Frieren's amulette at the entrance and was the only one to recognize that she's qualified to enter the test.
