Got me all emotional and teary eyed man. I started this manga and anime 9-10 years ago when I was 13. Now I've witnessed the manga and anime conclude, what a beautiful story that Horikoshi created. Also there's an OVA supposed to release which covers the final chapter 431 which wasn't adapted in this episode. We know they're working on it due to leakers and in a NHK behind the scenes interview for Bones they showed them talking about 431 with a screen that had the title for it

When the manga ended MHA was an 8 or 8.5 for me. Unfortunately, it's gonna stay that way for me because not only did the anime not expand the epilogue more... it removed stuff ;_; Where is the Bakugo, Shoto, Deku car scene and then the Deku & Uraraka scene?!?! I was robbed

I personally loved the first season of Vigilantes, and it's getting a second season early next year. It's slightly lower stakes, at least compared to the defeat of AFO, but it's very very good and I would recommend it.

It seems there might potentially be an OVA that would cover chapters 431 and 432 (the last two manga chapters), focusing a bit more on their lives after the time skip, which I really liked as it gives proper closure to certain aspects of the story. However, there is no release date yet.

About Vigilantes, Cannon — I personally never finished it, but I want to pick it back up again. It just didn't feel the same because I missed the original cast, but since it's a prequel there are still some familiar faces. I would say it's good because it gets a lot of praise, but I'd need to give it another shot in order to say if it’s worth it.

Vigilantes is good! A lot of folks consider the storytelling better than the main series, but of course that's up to taste. It's especially great if you want some insight and backstory into some of the important secondary characters from the main story.

Dude, the AoT anime covered the expanded content that came out after the final chapter. MHA chapter 431 was added afterwards for the physical manga tankobon. There's absolutely no reason for them not to adapt it in the anime. There is no episode 12. It's cope. Even if they adapt them later on in an OVA, that's extremely lame. They fit better here and would round out the season to a 12 episode count like most anime seasons are.

The difference is that mha is a yearly production, there was a 3 month difference from when 430 was released and then 431 came out. By then pre production for mha was already finished and they only had 11 TV slots confirmed. So they either had to completely rush and cram it into ep 11 which would've been terrible or they can make it an ova which we know is happening thanks to the NHK bones interview

It's confirmed, in the behind the scenes NHK interview for studio Bones that was released 3 months before S8 we saw the director Nakayama reading and looking at pages from chapter 431 and in one of the shots fans managed to spot the title of MHA 431 which was "More" in the back on a tv screen during a meeting So we know it's being adapted

This episode ends on chapter 430 of the manga. There is technically more (chapter 431-432), which is a canon epilogue Horikoshi released later in the final volume. It’s set after this ending where we get to see where the characters end up and get some closure. There are also a few extra pages Horikoshi released, and people are saying all of this might get adapted as an OVA, so some of the things you guys brought up could still get answered 👀

vigilantes takes place in the same My Hero Academia world but outside of the main storyline. seeing a different art style for this story is pretty cool and it’s fun to watch. Short synopsis if you want: You get to see some more of MHA society that we don’t get to see in the main series, and it’s in the form of vigilantism, a concept that was prominent before hero laws were fully/properly established.

The NHK behind the scenes interview for studio Bones. Fans were able to spot stuff from 431 like Director Nakayama and other staff members reading chapter 431. In one of the scenes we also saw in the back a TV which a small pixelated title that fans were able to make out the title of 431 which was "More". Also very reliable leakers have confirmed it too

Love the ending of the show. Started watching when you guys started and it’s been fun. Not the most nuanced till the last few seasons, but it’s superhero’s so I get it, and still enjoyed it. Vigilantes for me is good. Mha themes and atmosphere are very much in the show. I think it just comes down to the characters for people, and that the style of the plot is different vs the main show. I’m excited for season 2 of the show in January, maybe not on the level of jjk and frieren, but I will definitely be watching the episodes as soon as they come out.

I think the deaths that did happen were important like night eye and the heroes in season 6 like midnight, but they were also side characters, night eye only got screen time for 1 season. How many times did we have to hear doctors tell deku that he may never be able to use his arms again and nothing ever happened? Don’t get me wrong I loved the show, I’ve even said before I won’t ever know why I stopped watching this when it was airing season 3. But meaningful consequences for plot heavy characters, other than All might? Dont think so. (off memory, if someone thinks of more, pls share) Maybe its just cause its a superhero show that there wasnt too many, which i can get behind. Not gonna act like marvel or DC stuff has crazy deaths or consequences either. Edit: after some thought, I would say, there were a lot more revelations and perspectives that the characters got from interactions with others/fights with villains, vs physical consequences or choices that they had to carry with themselves. Thats probably the way I would explain the route they took with how previous arcs or characters influenced our heroes later on.

No words can describe how much this show blew my expectations out of the water. I went into it with a bit of a negative perception, but I heard it was a good underdog story, and it ended up becoming so much more than that. The themes were simple but SO fleshed out. What heroism actually means, reaching out instead of turning away, legacy, and the idea that being a hero isn’t about power, etc. This final episode showed that perfectly; Deku still standing alongside his classmates, still a hero while also a teacher. He literally became the quirkless hero he was told he could never be. The moment with Deku and Dai paralleling Deku and All Might was SO good, it got me tearing up in a way only this show can lol. Him becoming a teacher, continuing All Might’s legacy, and seeing the impact he’s had on everyone around him really cemented that he is the pinnacle of what heroism represents. Even knowing there’s more in the manga, this ending is SO earned. Bittersweet, hopeful, and true to the heart of the series. Thanks for taking us on this journey Geks. Watching you guys fall in love with it the same way we all did was amazing to see!

I loved how Hawks’ long-running goal meant something in the end. He’s been talking forever about wanting a world where “heroes have more time on their hands”, and at the end he literally says “maybe things are less busy now”. Crime is way down, our heroes are doing meaningful things other than just battling villains, and we actually see what that world looks like instead of just hearing him talk about it. It’s so nice, and Hawks looks so happy 😭

Another great parallel this episode was Bakugou reaching out to Deku. The most defining moment of their dynamic is Deku reaching out to Bakugou in the river, and now we see that reversed. Bakugou being the one to reach out this time, being the one to fund Deku’s suit because he wants them to keep chasing each other as rivals, him looking so happy. They’ve come SO far.

So glad I was able to experience this with you all! I do have a few things I'd like to say... 1. Vigilantes is excellent! Studio Bones has been cooking with the adaptation! Reading this side to side with MHA was a treat, and I think you'll enjoy it! Season 2 is on the horizon as well. 2. There is ONE extra chapter that was featured in the final volume, and we have received confirmation of one OVA. It's not confirmed that this is an adaptation of the final chapter, but it might be? If it isn't an adaption, I recommend reading the final chapter because it's another strong sendoff for our amazing heroes! 3. You are all my hero for reacting to this show and giving it the love it deserves! Same to the Gek fans. Love to everyone!

The moment where the woman stops the kid with the stitches was great too. He’s clearly meant to mirror Shigaraki, and her actually stepping in this time stopped that same path from repeating. Seeing him later in the background at UA really drives home what could’ve happened if someone had reached out to Shigaraki back then.

What a beautiful finale, what a great great story and anime adaptation. This is def a show I'll show to my daughters when they are old enough to understand, I feel it will drive very useful conversations about values, morals and empathy. I think what I love the most is the consistency in the ideas Horikoshi wanted to portray, the helping hand, the responsibility of everyone in making a better world to live, the consequences when you look the other way.. man what a damn good show, I'm gonna miss it. I totally see possible a prequel about the All Might days, I mean he still should be one of the most beloved and popular characters in anime, so why not? Thanks Geks for loving this show, and for the energy and passion you put in all reactions, I still remember how I jumped in my chair when received the email showing the poll with MHA on it.. Cannon to answer your question. Yes Vigilantes is good and worth a watch. It's its own show and you get to see some more background from some favourite pro heroes too. It's good enough that I binge read the manga after the end of season 1 and I'm actively looking forward to season 2 in January. Also Also... I guarantee we'll see a little more from Deku in the gang in an OVA episode released at some point because there were extra chapters that didn't make it into this finale episode.

I'm trying to temper my expectations but I'm fully expecting at least some kind of exciting announcement XD. If that program existed when Toga was a child then she would have been supported to find the positive nature of her quirk before it was too late. She could have gone on to help so many people instead of being forced down the path she ended up on 😭😭

first time I've ever watched a full show with you guys from start to finish—and man, am I glad that it was MHA. absolutely insane run, and I'm really hoping they'll eventually animate the two epilogue chapters! and yes, mckay, lemillion was number one lmaooo also, can't wait to see if you guys will react to all the openings and endings! I doubt you remember, but... we've actually seen the scene at 14:21 (in your video) before. It was in the final episode of season 5 in the post-credits scene. We saw Dai there holding an Endeavor doll in front of the All Might statue with his mom asking him if he was ready for first grade. Now, here he is again in middle school, at the same point Deku was at when this show started. The events in season 6 (starting with the Paranormal Liberation Army fight) onward influenced Dai greatly, causing him to want to become a hero. That scene back in season 5 was basically the beginning of his journey. And this episode here is where he starts rising.

Vigilantes is like 6 years before MHA story starts and it stars some characters like Aizawa and Mirko but they aren't main characters. It's kinda MHA + The Boys with the focus being a group of vigilantes that didn't get a hero license for whatever reason but still want to be heros.

I thought this was a good anime. It's way better than what people think or have said about it (not that that really matters). Animation and music were consistently amazing. I enjoyed the humor and small amounts of silliness. Powers were unique enough to be different than the typical superhero setting. Inspirational and impactful characters and moments. Todoroki family plot was the best part for me. I thought it did a great job at exploring themes like trauma and abuse. Overall the series was enjoyable and easily watchable, was a fun journey watching along for the first time with you guys. Great anime to get people into the medium. On a side note, I checked out some of the chapters from the manga, and Horikoshi is a phenomenal artist, he clearly loves manga and western comics and gives them their well deserved appreciation. Solid 7/10 Replied with some of my issues if anyone was interested

I KNEW that old lady who kept getting featured in the previous episodes was the lady who left young Shigaraki alone despite beginning to lend a helping hand!!!!! Her face was a lot older but still so familiar considering how many times I rewatched MHA. I sobbed big fat tears when Izuku received his suit from All Might and ran to catch up to Class 1A with Katsuki standing at the very front reaching out his hand to him. Katsuki being at the front and spearheading the project for the suit perfectly encapsulates their storylines. Him holding out a hand to Izuku like Izuku once held his out to him at the creek when they were children has so much symbolism and poetic paralleling behind it. Before, Katsuki shunned the hand Izuku held out to him because he was afraid of Izuku's heroism, the very one that allows him to go beyond his limits and break his own body just to reach someone who needs his help, but now, Katsuki holds his own hand out to Izuku, mirroring their positions from when they were kids. And this time, he's giving Izuku his dream of being a hero back to him (through All Might). He may not have been there to physically gift him the suit, mostly because it would mean a lot more to have All Might be the one to push him towards his dream once again, but he took the opportunity to be the first person Izuku sees after getting out of his car, which circles back to their shared dream of becoming heroes and competing with each other for as long as they are heroes. It's a small part of the entire amazing episode, but I adore the way Horikoshi wrote their stories and intertwined them with All Might's presence. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go cry into my pillow for the next three hours over MHA's end. I will never recover from how much this series emotionally gut-punched me over the years and made me ugly cry numerous times. One of the only to do so, in fact. Thank you Geks for the amazing journey, I knew I was right to stay on your Patreon for MHA after your Haikyuu and Solo Leveling reactions were completed. Watching you guys was a thrice-weekly (in the past) and weekly (current) joy.

I got a few issues but these are the main ones that I felt like were the most important. Too many characters and not enough development. A lot of anime with a big ensemble cast like this face the same issue. I figured since this is a relatively newer anime that it would've learnt from its predecessors and attempt to change the formula. Since it did well with polishing the fundamentals of a "battle-shounen". Sadly it stills continued on the legacy. I couldn't find myself caring for majority of characters. Even the ones that I did enjoy, like the main side characters, Iida and Uroraka, got sidelined and became increasingly less interesting. A lot of potential missed out here. Rarely dives deeper into serious topics that are brought up. It tries to give a commentary on societal and systemic issues but is either half committed or just pushed far into the background. It doesn't even deal with the issues the current hero system perpetuates. Issues being: commercialization of heroes, discrimination against heteromorphs, outcasting people with "villainous" or "odd" quirks, corruption within the system eg Nagant. It's framed in a way that its just outliers or isolated tragedies, rather than it being consequences of the system in place. Nothing feels progressed at the end, besides the quirk counseling. Other than that, the status quo still remains. Reminds me a lot of how Harry Potter ended. Pacing. I don't mean filler shots, unnecessary dialogue, or any type of time consuming stuff. I mean the actual pace of the story. Just way too fast. All of the events happen within one school year. The first 3 seasons did a great job at building the world and developing the characters. It gave Deku and other characters enough time to really establish themselves and for the audience to become attached. Then season 4 comes around and with each season after it only gets rougher. Every arc is life changing and world altering. I think at the end of almost every arc, Deku says something along of the lines of "A major incident that will shake the world happened" Desperately needed a time skip or at least have these major events be at the end or during each school year, and fill the gaps with more underexplored themes and underdeveloped characters over the course of their high school careers. Dark Deku was my favorite part, because he LEFT SCHOOL and had no support from his friends or the public. Sadly only last for like 4 episodes, when this could've been a great year 1 after school arc and then eventually leading up the final war.

As a whole this anime is great but it's not up there with the levels of Frieren and AOT for me, it has as good of a peak if not maybe better but it has some real lows. Season 4 and especially most of season 5 was a real slog for me to get through.

I feel so much after this, I need time to express my thoughts. its was a good ending but it was soooo bittersweet. I have so much post finale depression from this more than any show I’ve completed, I can’t believe this is the end 😭 I feel like we should have a more optimistic ending after all we’ve experienced up to this this point… that being said I still enjoyed it. rest in peace my hero academia. the end of an era. I really love how Horikoshi-sensei described the ending of My Hero Academia as “putting the camera down and freeing the characters from the drama.” The story called My Hero Academia ends here, but it feels like the characters themselves will keep living and moving on within that world. Maybe that’s why it doesn’t really feel like it’s over.

This was such a beautiful ending to the series. I’ve been reading this for a decade and I couldn’t stop crying. I’m really glad we got to see them as pro-heroes in the future and how society as a whole still carried the lessons they learned from villains. And Katsuki finally calling Izuku Deku again, but this time because it’s his hero name…… their relationship is my favorite one in the series because it encapsulates so much of the themes as well. Ugh, I will be crying about the ending of this for a week. I’m so happy to see you guys appreciate the story as much as it deserves!

To the point where villians are not appearing as much and heroes have more time for other things. you probably heard "season 5 onwards is terrible" while season 5 was airing, so obv that doesn't include s6+ (cause it's all peak), but a lot of fans dropped the show during the second arc of s4 or s5 cause they're a little slower than the rest before it, though it's necessary world building/character development and i personally enjoyed them even while airing. even if those parts aren't your cup of tea it's def worth watching to get to the last few seasons if you liked s1-4 !

The show is great, but since MHA already gets a bad rep from the anime community due to its notoriously bad fandom, every shortcoming is exaggerated. S5 onwards has SOME bad direction choices, but that's not enough to call any of those seasons bad. If you watch in good faith, you'll have a great time.

I understand everyone’s points, but I have thoughts on this that I think are commonly overlooked: At the end of the day, it is anime. Characters are constantly thrown through buildings and survive things that would be instantly fatal in real life. MHA does have deaths and real casualties, it just chooses not to make its core message hinge on killing off its child characters, which I think is a completely valid choice. It’s a series about hope and saving people, not shock-value deaths, so it’s not surprising they didn’t go that route. Also, Bakugo DID die. He was literally revived through an extreme, irreversible sacrifice. EdgeShot didn’t just get off easy; he gave up his body and future entirely, and Bakugo is left permanently damaged. I don’t really get why death is treated as the only form of meaningful stakes or sacrifice. Living with the consequences, loss and damage can be just as bad (sometimes worse) especially in a story that’s about continuing forward.

it seemed to me that the show was getting worse, i disliked what they did with all might as a character post his fight with afo and i found lots of season 4 and the start of season 5 to be underwhelming, i also just never felt that atached to any of the characters in the show, all might and endevour were very interseting but they both seemed to be becoming less relevent to the story going into season 5 and i find most of 1a and 1b to be 2 dimensional wastes of screen time. obviously there is still lots of good i realise this makes it sound like i hated the show which isnt true at all. but i do feel like instead of giving screen time to 30 different students the show could have created a stronger cast by focusing on fewer characters instead of giving numerous scenes to characters like mineta.

The mha fanbase is no worse than other fanbases. The fanfiction community is just bigger for some reason — even if it isn’t the most popular or well-liked anime, the fanfiction is much larger. There’s no issue with that, in theory, as long as people don’t project their fanfiction out to the world and send hate to people involved in the anime. A lot of the stories people write are actually not ship-focused, but since the fandom is so huge, it also has a high number of delusional shippers who are very vocal and delusional. And cringe. So yeah mha fandom in general — even if it got better since 2020 — is still just a (surprisingly and comparatively) huge fandom.

Vigilantes is a different pace and different story style for sure, but it is DEFINITELY worth watching. I have read the manga and it should only get better post season 1. Another 🐐 of a mc. Additionally, some great context to some already beloved characters from the main show

There's definitely more said about the story in the manga, so there might be a chance that they'll throw some OVA's on top of this a little later, but I would assume that the possibilities are still slim. If you *really* want to learn more about what happens after the end, I would suggest picking up the comics themselves and reading it. As for Vigilantes, I would recommend it for sure. You get to see cameo's of characters you love and even dig into a bit of their backstory's. It's doesn't have quite the same atmosphere as MHA, but it's definitely entertaining and it definitely still pulls at the heartstrings in all the right ways. So yeah, give it a watch for sure!
