Ser Dunk the Tall

Watch God of High School while Carter's out of commission. It's a quick show and I think you guys will like it. Typical trio anime. 2 boys and a girl. And the fights are pure entertainment.

Ayoodude

Love this show man it’s awesome 🔥🔥🔥 can’t wait for more seasons

Chosos Wife

Amo my baby girl 😭💔

Chosos Wife

Stopped in the middle of watching MHA Vigilantes for this 🙌🏻

Sky

Safe to say that this episode is the exact moment that my opinion of this show went from "Hey, this is a pretty good time" to "Oh, this story might be GOING places." It is very hard to touch this kind of subject matter and present it without it being exploitative or missing the emotional mark, but Bones nailed it with this episode. I think I might only ever rewatch it via reactions, but this story does a good job of reconsidering who and what Amo is after learning her backstory. Gut wrenching, but masterfully done.

suzy

I miss Carter 🥹 but I hope he’s doing well and enjoying this special time with his baby and wife 🥹✨

Earthshatter

NGL this is one of the saddest backstory I have seen in the last couple of years

Tivy

I’m honestly in a way happy that Carter missed this episode. I know he would have so much respect for it and would be really impacted, but after having a baby, family and happiness is all he needs right now. This episode is a really difficult one to watch, but also so well done considering the subject matter it discusses.

Ayoodude

New series ..Bleach please 🙏

kai

yeaaaa this episode was just tragic poor girl didn’t deserve any of that

Chosos Wife

I was so sad when she didn't go with them but I guess it was a huge change mentally that she'd finally found people who would let her come with them and accept her etc. She probably just wanted a bit of time to process everything and get ready to leave and stuff. She's been trapped in there for like at least 10 years so it is a huge change to do all at once

Chosos Wife

🌸🌸🌸I love the way they did it as a child's drawing. Really makes it more impactful and hurts more as it reminds you she was and still is just a baby. Makes you feel even more disgusted and disturbed 🌸🌸🌸

Chosos Wife

They're not gonna do that till they at least finish Naruto. They said before they don't want all of the big 3 going at once

Vlad Blue

How did Jack come to the conclusion that Zanka's vital instrument may be passed down? I don't remember them saying anything about it in the show and I am trying to follow the thought process.

Pats

Bones did such a great job of this episode

Earthshatter

I hope she isn't dead but knowing jabber I doubt he just took the boots

LK

That creep is the worst, the masked person should’ve thwacked him some more tbh.. Poor Amo )):

fay

yess i wanna know more abt the limitations/rules of instruments and why certain ones can be used by more than one person. the only thing i can think of rn is items that r generational can meet different conditions to be used, like remlin’s pen that was inherited from gob. but it seems the pen needs consent from the previous owner… cuz amo and him were fighting over “ownership,” but the boots reacted to both of them, so can anyone with Giver potential steal and use it? plus it’s implied that he stole them too so maybe minimum of 3 ppl have used those boots? so much to think about 🤯

Tivy

Tamsy is a little androgynous, I don’t blame you guys for getting him mixed up lol. People shouldn’t be too hard on you for it

Tivy

Funny how so many people initially pegged Amo as another hypersexualized female character because of her appearance, only for this backstory to reveal she had to grow up in her childhood clothes which are now too small. Completely flips the narrative and exposes how fast people judge female anime characters because of how they’re typically represented and portrayed.

fay

the wings have to be a giver ability right? cuz it manifested with the same sparkly particles as the other instruments

Daniella

I've never felt more sick watching an episode...Bones did such an amazing job with the innocent child drawings contrasting with the actual horror of what's going on. Maybe i'm overthinking it, but I feel like Kei Urana depicted Amo's clothing and the certain shots of her ike we think it's for fan service reasons and we're meant to see her in a comedic sexual light when she's been sexualised her whole life ☹️

Vextipher

The way the animation went in a distorted childrens drawing is so apt for Amo's experience and mentality.

Indifferent Denji

But the plot is confusing asf because of the terrible pacing id honestly have to disagree its really messy in general

Alan

The way I understood it was when the pedo had a spell on Amo but shoes got taken off by the angel his powers stopped working and that’s When Amo started to realize like “oh why am I here” and said “I’m feeling anger and emotions I’ve never felt before. “ so like the spell made it so that she was always just feel happy

Alan

Fucked up

Hobatty

amoo😭😭

jaymie

I can’t watch it rn I’m at work ahhh

Daniella

Btw they're saying "Tenshi" for angel not Tamsy but it does sound very familiar :)

Hobatty

This episode was so intense it made me feel sick😭. Amo is such an interesting character and it's cool to rewatch and catch the nuances. Somebody give her a hug, please! 😭😭

alex anderson

Was a fine first episode. Second one looks like it ramps up, might have mha season 4 vibes

Tivy

4:45 “Through the eyes of a child” — exactly. The animation style they do here and throughout is perspective. We’re seeing it the way Amo did as a kid (innocent, simplified, happy) because she didn’t understand what was being done to her. It’s a non-graphic way to show something horrific, and that’s what makes it even more disturbing. The audience knows the truth even when she doesn’t fully.

Chosos Wife

Haven't started season 2 yet, I'm on episode 9 of season 1

Ser Dunk the Tall

My point is that it's a turn your brain off enjoyable show. I could see them really laughing at moments and liking the characters. It's kind of like Game of Thrones in that respect. It's worth the ride even if the destination sucks. Like traveling from Utah to Cleveland.

Maeverly

The impact this episode has on changing the narrative on Amo. She was just a crazy (but cool) "villain," but then you sit through this utterly tragic and uncomfortable backstory, and everything makes sense. Her raunchy outfit is really just her childhood clothes she never changed out of (I saw someone comment on another reaction vid that the other clothes and items in the tower weren't just for her but the clothes and stuff of other victims the trafficker had berfore Amo) and her asking questions about love is her trying to connect with others the only way she knows how, "love" after years of manipulation. She's so desperate for connection, she lashes out when she realizes people aren't really there to talk with her but "use" her for info. It's just so sad.

Tivy

This is such a hard rewatch 😭

alex anderson

Well I’m very sorry for talking about ep 1. I made the wrong assumption

Chosos Wife

Its alright I don't care its not like you said anything 🤣 I was just saying in case you hoped for a convo about it

Gorira Kujira

I've been waiting to see your reaction to this episode, it's such a good turning point

botanbutton

My sweet baby girl Amo 💗 It's this kind of storytelling that will flip what you know about a character on its head and think about them and their actions in another way. The mangaka is a woman, so that could have really informed how this was handled. In the end, it's just makes me think, the Cleaners could have just talked to Amo, even Riyo and Tomme would have been enough. It goes back to what Amo said, all people know how to do is raise their hands to hurt others, herself included. 😔 And while I was with the mindset that Rudo went too far (1 or 2 punches & his anger justifiable tho), learning that pedo oji-san had been beating her into submission for a while makes Rudo's beatdown seem even more gut-wrenching. Made my stomach turn on rewatch tbh. Like, Rudo my sweet boy, noooo, Regto taught you to use your words. 😭 I think trafficker pedo oji-san is one of the few and only anime characters I've seen that people have a 100% agreement on......We are GLAD he WENT OUT THAT WINDOW. 👏🏾

botanbutton

Urana understands it so well and was able to give us story and character with Amo's outfit. It's such a good and specific use of hyper sexualization, I hope we get more storytelling like that in more manga/anime.

Tyler

When I first read the manga I thought Zanka was pretty androgynous as well I like that about this authors character design and art style though outside of a few characters they all have a bit of a masc and fem side to them

Night Sterling

Always need a palette cleanser after this ep 😭

alex anderson

After the guy rapes Amo, him talking to the boots in the corner probably accomplishes two things, him trying to justify his actions and cope with his crime but also strengthen the vital instrument he is in possession of. A disturbing way to show real life issues within the context and power systems of the show.

Saint

Ughh this ep :(

a_daichi

ugh this was a hard watch. poor amo

a_daichi

also I just finished the whole season and AHHHH I NEED MORE. sooo many questions I need answers to!!! really loved it a lot!

ainsley

my sweet amo

ainsley

i will never forget the impact this episode had on me. as a woman who has experienced traumatic things not unlike amo, especially in childhood, i have never seen a more accurate depiction of this specific trauma, in an anime nonetheless. it made me tear up. i appreciate amo as a character so much. i’m sure many other women can relate too🩷

celery

Yeah like it had to do with the stomping or something because he was going to attack the angels that way and probably kicked her like that with the boots on before so when he did this time without the boots it didn’t have his power. That’s how I saw it

Alex

Vital instruments can change hands, so you don't have to be the original owner of the item. The only stipulations for them working for someone else are 1) They have the potential to be a giver. 2) The person who owns the item cares for it and loves it deeply.

Zipzzty

Hard watch 💔

Zipzzty

7:45 Crazy work disgusting

Zipzzty

17:00 Good riddance fr

Marcus D

Cannon getting burned for his heartless attitude towards characters as always 🤣😢

Dub_quinn

A hard watch, this was when I realized Gachiakuta is not just comedy and fighting

Dub_quinn

I’m glad that Rudo tries to connect with her by reaching out a hand, he is learning a lot on the ground

Dub_quinn

If only the angel hit the mister more than once

Marcus D

Comments have got to stop hindsight merchanting good characters when they’re initially portrayed as bad. It happens with too many anime on this Patreon

Marcus D

Pretty sure that was established in the first episode lol

Marcus D

Nice koichi pfp

Marcus D

Yep that’s how I saw it too.

Marcus D

Pretty sure it was also apart of the shoes’ ability becuase we don’t see that drawing style until after she got within proximity of the old man and it never came about again once he lost the shoes.

Marcus D

This show stopped airing about 2 weeks ago. 24 episodes in total

Dub_quinn

Hahah true, but I do lowkey expect family deaths in anime 😅 Rudo biting those fingers made me double take tho lol!

Jenny D

This was a hard watch. To be sold off like that and manipulated by that disgusting man. I really want to know who killed Regto and why

T.Yaseen

Amo's backstory is so tragic... painful watch, sigh... ofc Jabber had to show up at the end she can't catch a break.

Zipzzty

Facts !!!

Dakota

Tough rewatch. I stopped watching after this next episode, not because I wasn't enjoying it, but because I wanted to binge it so I was waiting for it to all come out, and then you guys started your reaction, so I just decided to watch along with yall. This ep was tough. Knowing countless women who have gone through things similar, its always uncomfortable to know someone would be willing to do that kind of thing to another human being.

MtnDua

This episode was a very tough watch

Julia

This episode was extremely hard to write, just imaging the love and trust a child has in their mother and then to make the realization that a parent could sell them off. I don't blame Amo for not being able to accept reality.

jrnoodles

Thank you! Amo's backstory is revolting.

botanbutton

True but some folks will speak fondly for a "bad" character off rip when their introduced as well.

Yuki

ogi-san is GROAT aka greatest riddance of all time

Marcus D

lol for sure, crazy stuff 😭

Kite

this power system reminds me a lot of something Brandon Sanderson would write, and how he described it as Kintsugi where they use gold to fill the gaps in broken pottery

DonDuh103

Mmmmm thank God that dude was died.

Animeke

What is being looked at in hindsight? This is my first watch and I would back Amo as a character now just as much as when she was first introduced, although now for different reasons of course since her dynamics have changed.

Andrew Sung

The Grooming was insane.......so glad he's out of the anime, but does give insight into Amo's physiology and why she is somewhat they way she is.

Andrew Sung

Mckay is right though, Tenshi is Angel in Japanese.

Sara ˚˖𓍢ִ໋❀

The fact the backstory was drawn like those kids cartoons so "innocent", but obviously it was horrendous, made it that much creppier/horrific

Lorenzo

I legit couldnt watch half this episode had to skip
