water 7 starts pretty slow and is still slow for awhile after luffy vs usopp, def some peak moments after that with frankys backstory and the going merry but overall it's def under marineford for me. marineford starts off cooking yet definitely has inconsistencies but is still the most consistent and best paced arc either way

also not to be an imdb merchant but outside of luffy vs usopp the only other highest rated episode in water 7 is a 9.1 which is almost the same rating for the LOWEST rated episode in all of marineford, with marineford having like 10 episodes being rated as high as water 7's best episode (luffy vs usopp)

I wanna say all the Buggy stuff is in the manga bc he is canon. He’s been important to the show ever since he was introduced in Orange Town. Also as Oda’s favorite character, gotta give some respect🤷🏾‍♀️😭😭. I think it’s funny how buggy used to hate Luffy so much but really, especially after Marineford, he has a soft spot for him. He couldn’t trust Law at first and didn’t want to give Luffy away to a random😭😭 I love how Shanks is genuinely happy to see Buggy but Buggy is still annoyed by him cuz Shanks still knows how to mess with him😂😂 He’s definitely the only person who can talk all that to Shanks and not get killed💀😭😭😭

oh! also the wb pirates and the red hair pirates dont actually dislike each other, they respect shanks and WB holds him in high regards. the air around their interaction when we first saw it was just bad timing since shanks was kind of meddling with their crew affairs by asking WB not to chase BB. if you guys remember he said "chasing BB will only start a huge war no one needs" that comment did not sit well with them since they're still grieving their crew member and shanks was out of line in their eyes

Very much agree that this arc is pivotal, the torch has been passed and lighted for the New era. And a special shout out to Carter, for sticking with it even through the birth of his child, even though he was probably pushing Bradlynn to pull a Portgas D Rouge 💀 Jokes aside, the reaction to Shanks pulling up was everything I could have ever hoped for haha! I loved the outro, and I also have Marineford below Sabaody. I also agree that I prefer the peaks of Enies Lobby over the peaks of Marineford, though they are extremely close! As far as the overall story, there are a few arcs in the future I'd rank above it, with one of them even taking Sabaody's crown 👀 But that's way down the line. Obligitory Akainu solo'd marineford. Reminds me of this piece of literature: Aokiji ain't doing shit, Kizaru ain't doing shit, Garp ain't doing shit, Mihawk ain't doing shit, Sengoku ain't even fucking moving. HOW THE FUCK DID STRAWHAT GET TO ACE, what the fuck were Garp and Sengoku doing? The Marine's outright failed and Ace was gonna fucking get away, Akainu only salvaged it because Ace heard him seething and turned around, a stroke of luck that baffled even Akainu. Then Akainu goes after his actual target, Luffy, but Ace body-blocks for him. Ok, cool, the prisoner was executed, but Akainu still really wants Luffy dead. The Whitebeard fucking TELEPORTS behind him with a sneak attack, what the FUCK was Kizaru doing? Sengoku can't even help because he's busy holding down Garp who apparently wasn't over the fact that Ace needed to be executed. Then Akainu has to drag himself out of a crevice and goes after Luffy again, but Jinbei and Ivankov keep getting the way. Akainu fucks them up, but then the * ALL OF THE WHITEBEARD COMMANDERS* show up, WHAT THE FUCK ARE KIZARU AND AOKIJI DOING? So Akainu has to fight like 10 fucking commanders at once and his only back up are some no-name Marine grunts that are meat-shields at best. Despite that he actually manages to take down one of them and make it past them to Luffy and Jinbei. AND FUCKING CROCODILE COMES OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE, WHAT THE FUCK ARE THE MARINES DOING? Then fucking Trafalgar comes out of nowhere with a goddamn submarine, so now Akainu really has to hussle before Luffy gets too far under water. Then Coby decides to body-block which probably is really getting on Akainu's nerves at this point. AND THEN RED-HAIR FUCKING SHANKS SHOWS UP. Marineford was rough for Akainu.

I like to think of Marineford as the end of Act 1 of the entire series due to the build up of the whole show thus far pretty much leading all to this. Same goes for a particularly massive Arc which I think of as ending Act 2. And just for reference the series entered Act 3 just a few years ago.

True, but I think it did its job honestly. It has the most 9.0 or higher rated eps in all of anime(31 eps rated 9.0 or higher, which is every single episode of marineford). And the arc overall is rated 9.5. I think if it was redone with modern animation it would go crazy, but for its time and the competition going on at its time, they did really well. I hope one day it’s reanimated tho

I don’t care. You’re spitting facts, and I’m going to say it right here. If Kuzan and Kizaru went all out, this war would have been wrapped up in ten minutes, easily. Akainu, Kizaru, and Aokiji would have wiped the WB Pirates. They would have been done. If they just jumped Whitebeard, he would’ve been finished in minutes. Marco would’ve been slammed. Jozu would’ve been slammed. (They did but it would’ve been much faster) If Garp and Sengoku weren’t standing on the platform, chilling for half the freaking arc and not even moving a muscle, they would have been finished. And honestly, Akainu was the only one who actually took any of this seriously. Kizaru and Aokiji only decided to lock in when Luffy was on the Polar Tang with Law and about to escape. Then suddenly they want to throw out crazy attacks. So yeah, this is facts.

I found W7 a lot more interesting but MF definitely had higher peaks. Very surprised that so many eps on imdb are that highly rated for MF though, feels overrated to me.

To have a little serious comment for a second. I understand your dislike of certain characters, namely Buggy and Mr. 3, having “too much screen time” at times, and the lack of presence of other characters like certain admirals or Seven Warlords. But what you need to understand is that although Buggy and Mr. 3 may have had a different tone, they furthered the plot and story in ways even some main characters didn’t. If we hadn’t seen Mr. 3 for the whole time and he just magically appeared on the scaffold and saved Ace, that would’ve been so unnatural. If Buggy didn’t have his reasoning to Broadcast the war, many things would be different. Heck maybe Law doesn’t save Luffy. One thing with Oda is that everything has a meaning and will come back to be useful, no matter the tone in which it is portrayed or how trivial it seems.

pausing my amvs because something cannon said had me thinking, but marineford doing a lot terms of set ups and scaling is literally where i went "oh it's that serious" mind you i was not in any anime online circle so i was never spoiled on anything thankfully and i watched one piece fairly early like around 2011-2012. i fell in love with one piece from the get go i loved the crew and i was fine with them hopping from one island to the other helping others. sabaody was when shit hit the fan for me, from discovering how corrupt the world is to how weak and unprepared our crew is to the random seeds oda planted ages ago with WB, the warlords, yonkos and BB. i realized how alive the world of one piece is, cause things are moving regardless of our crew's involvement or not. it's safe to say after this arc i started paying way more attention to the world and the states of things even if it has nothing to do with the current arc. this is peak world building imo and it's why one piece had a grip on my life ever since

I really agree with McKay's take on Crocodile. He really is an X-factor! I remember totally not trusting Croc since they freed him on Impel down then it slowly transitioned to being one of my favorite characters in this arc. I will say it kinda sucks knowing the Geks would probably have this arc number one if on One Pace. I get it's the "full" experience but it just sucks that Toei insists upon messing up Oda's pacing and vision. I know Carter said he will read the manga one day so would love to hear his thoughts after that. I remember watching this and realizing Oda did a good job of not showing anything about Garp’s strength. He’s been glazed to be as strong as an admiral yet aside from the way he took out Marco with a single punch, I couldn’t tell how strong he is. Also Luffy does have a high battle IQ. That’s why he can come up with his various gears and overpower people who first appear to be stronger than him. He adapts very quickly too. But battle IQ can only get you so far when everyone is 10 times + stronger than you are. This was really meant to show his place in the world. If he went to the new world as he is now, he’d only lose his crew again.

First time watching Marineford, here are my thoughts: the arc is obviously goated, I really enjoyed it as it was something very different from the other war arcs Ive seen before, I’d say its my third favourite one piece arc, behind water7 and sabaody. Now I have to admit I was slightly disappointed by it, and maybe its because I’ve heard so much about it my expectations were set to high, but once you know every episode is rated above 9 its kinda inevitable. Altogether it was a great experience though, it was really fun (sad?) to watch this with the geks, and the cosplays really made this a timeless experience, so thanks to everyone involved in it!!!

Man, I can't believe we finally got to this part. It's been a journey for sure. Without a doubt, Marineford is my favorite arc up until this point. Then would be Water 7 (including EL and the return to W7). It's got so many goated moments even with the heartbreaking outcome. The world of One Piece is changed forever now.

My Top 5 arcs up to this point (having rewatched/reread the series multiple times) would be: 1. Marineford 2. Sabaody 3. Water 7 + Enies Lobby (always has been the same arc for me) 4. Skypiea 5. Drum Island Marineford is just so grand and climactic in every way (story, characters, emotions), and has so many iconic moments that it's impossible for me not to have it #1 at this stage of the story. Luffy facing the 3 Admirals, Whitebeard's Legendary Speech/Death, Luffy Freeing Ace are my 3 favorite moments of the arc, but there could easily be 10 other moments that I would also call "Legendary/Iconic". Marineford really is Oda's Magnum Opus... ...for now 😎.

I would say MF is a great arc, but it is most definitely not the peak of OP in my opinion as a whole, especially with the latest and current arcs in the anime/manga. Lots of peak to come, so no worries on that end. Marineford just does a REALLY good job setting up things you guys don’t even have a clue about yet, but will feel so rewarding down the line. I like what someone else said in the comments. One Piece doesn’t just drop bombs, it plants seeds. And some of those seeds you either don’t even realize are being planted yet or assume aren’t that important. But if there’s one thing about One Piece you’ll learn, almost EVERYTHING will matter and come around later—whether it’s characters/interactions that seem irrelevant or moments that seem “annoying” or “unimportant” (cough cough Buggy🤭 just one example). All in all, I guess what I’m trying to say is a lot of moments that seem like a waste of time will come around as a kind of reward, which, looking back, will make you appreciate them more anyway. Couldn't agree more with the outro. When I first watched, Marineford was my number 1. But going back and watching again, Sabaody is my clear number 1 by some margin, just high calorie lean efficient story + huge world building implications as well. I have post Enies Lobby number 2 actually (I consider that a mini-arc on its own). Then I have Marineford and W7 basically equal at number 3.

I do believe there are some episodes of Marineford that aren't really 9.0+, but I'll happily accept the 31 straight 9.0+ episodes on IMDB glaze. What truly deserves their ratings however are the last 10 episodes of the arc, from Ace being freed until the end of the war: 480: 9.5 481: 9.6 482: 9.7 483: 9.7 484: 9.7 485: 9.7 486: 9.4 487: 9.2 488: 9.5 489: 9.6 Still one of the best stretches of episodes in all of television.

The blackbeard disrispect is crazy, bro has some of the most insane feats in the story every top tier is scared of him including shanks and hes the only character to be able to eat two devil fruits let alone use the tremor tremor fruit immediately after getting it to that extent is wild. I get that hes a rat but this is literally a show about pirates and hes the definition of it, dont hate the player hate the game, and the fact that hes a rat and gets scared a lot makes him even more dangerous because he knows when to walk away like he did with shanks, hes opportunistic and a very smart villain he doesn’t just run in and punch people but waits for his opportunity and I think thats what separates him from other one piece villains. my top five arcs so far are 1. Sabaody. Probably top three in the entire series for me, I absolutely love everything that happens in it. 2. Skypeia. I love how different it feels from every other arc. I think Skypeia as a whole might be one of Oda's most fleshed out ideas to date--almost everything in it feels complete to me. 3. Marineford. Widely regarded as one of the greatest arcs in anime for a reason. Marineford almost never lets up. Some of my favorite moments in the entire series happen here but honestly as a whole it doesnt quite make it higher than this and I could definitely make an argument for it to be a place lower. Having so many new characters really are a detriment to it in my eyes. 4. Water 7. An extremely consistent arc, and that can be a rare thing by one piece's standards. Luffy vs Usopp is a strong contender if not my favorite pre-timeskip moment. 5. Enies Lobby. I get why so many people love it. It has many of the best moments in the show, but IMO it has some of the worse ones too. I think just about any scene with Lucci's goons abysmal and I don't even really care about Lucci. RIP The Merry though And as an honorable mention I'd like to give it to Thriller Bark. Maybe a rogue pick for a lot of one piece fans but I do find quite a lot of aspects to it very compelling--though I can't ignore how many bad moments it has. It was probably one of my favorite reading experiences for one piece in general so it holds a special place in my heart. I've only ever read the manga so watching the anime with the geks for the first time has been an incredible journey, I can't wait for the next arc! One of my favorites.

For me the best arc in the manga so far is Enies Lobby, but in the anime it's W7 since EL pacing is awful. Marineford in the anime is top 2 or 3 since Sabaody is carried by decent pacing and could take number 2 thanks to that. Marineford in the manga is Top 3 behind EL and W7 so far. I have 4 arcs post time skip above Marineford in the manga.

For me, Marineford is the best arc in the entire series except maybe the arc that is currently being written in the manga. That one might surpass Marineford but I want to wait until it is finished before saying that for sure. As of now Marineford is my number one arc. So after Marineford, probably Sabaody, then Water 7 or Enies Lobby, then Impel Down, and then Skypiea. This is my top six arcs so far based on what you guys have seen, not the whole show. Impel Down also gets a lot of unnecessary hate. Just like Marineford, it benefits massively from the manga and the one pace version. The constant filler with Buggy and Mr. 3 is heavily reduced which makes the arc flow much better. And I want to be clear I am talking about the manga version and the one pace version of Marineford, not the original anime version. This is the version I have at number one. Even as a first-time watcher of the Marineford arc in the original anime I can admit they added some good things. Some scenes were drawn out well and certain moments had a darker heavier tone for the Marines. Not everything they added was bad. I do have many problems with the original anime version of Marineford where the Buggy stuff is too much and multiple parts are just dragged out and not entirely great. Toei Animation is also biased towards the admirals and makes them look worse than they actually did. But I am not going into all that right now. The overall consistency of the Marineford arc is much better in the manga and that is also why I have it at number one. There are moments where the anime enhances Marineford but not enough for it to surpass the manga or the one pace version. Post time skip especially whether or not you use one pace can completely change how you feel about an arc. Even in pre time skip many arcs feel very different depending on which version you watch. After the time skip when the pacing gets significantly worse that difference becomes even more important. There is literally an arc in post time skip that if you choose to watch it in one pace it might be one of your favorite arcs in the whole show. But if you watch it in the normal anime version, some people barely have it in their top ten because the pacing is so bad. For just that one arc I will literally beg you guys to use one pace because it changes so much. Even right after Marineford I think the next arc already benefits from one pace. You do not have to use it immediately though, and I would start using it during the first or second arc after the time skip at least. Honestly, a majority of the post-time skip arcs should be watched in one pace. I know some people might get tired of hearing about this all the time, but this is simply the truth.

In the flashback of god valley incident Garp and Roger team up to kill Rocks who has been demonized by the leader of world government to kill everybody, after that Roger: "If you wanna leave the navy you should join us" Garp responds: "hell no if I quit who'd protect the marines'' Later Garp meets Sengoku and tells him: "If you ever stray and get corrupted I'll kill you Sengoku to Garp(not a response to the previous statement): So you're quitting then Garp? Gonna miss the cosplays but thanks for the goated reactions!! As of where we are in the show (because i can't remember how i ranked it lol) my top 3 arcs are: Marineford, Enies Lobby and Sabaody. The peaks of this arc were just amazing and the implication of how it will change the show and Luffy make it a number one arc for me. But i agree with the criticisms, it's not a perfect arc but it is the peak of one piece. Having caught up with the show though, it's no.4 that's all i will say :)

1. Skypiea - I love the mystery and adventure aspect of this arc. It was the first time OP felt like a classic pirate story which made it such a fun ride with a unique charm unlike any other arc thus far. It also has probably my favourite arc ending (Luffy ringing the bell). Ppl will argue that the fights suck, but I really couldn’t care less for OP fights. 2. Marineford - this arc is amazing but I always praise it even more for being so good despite having nobody from our main cast except for Luffy. I don’t think it would’ve been as good as it was if it weren’t for the set up and suspense build up from Impel Down so shoutout to that arc too I guess. 3/4. W7 and Sabaody - I can’t choose they just keep swapping places for me. Sabaody was short but had so much impact in so little time, and W7 needs no explanation as to why it’s so good. Both arcs have major themes of conflict within the crew and your actions having very real consequences.

I’m still undecided on where it’s at but my biggest problems were the filler and the inconsistencies in the fights, when you have that many big players I understand it’s hard to keep everyone involved but it was still all over the place with a couple of them (Mihawk, Crocodile, Doflamingo, Admirals) That being said they absolutely hammered the highs and the major moments and the emotional beats are really only second to robins backstory to me. The world of one piece has completely changed this arc and they raised the stakes as well as any anime has ever done. Definitely an S tier arc

Ngl I like the idea of institutions… I have very mixed feelings about the Navy. I hate the World Gov , but I genuinely like the concept of the Navy in One Piece. As much as I despise the awful things they’ve done, I still find the idea of the Navy fascinating. I just wish there were more admirals or a high-ranking commander-in-chief with the same epic charisma and personality that the pirates or the World Government leaders have. That would’ve made the story so much better. In the series, no one really cares about the Navy; it’s always about the Government and the pirates. The Navy just ends up feeling like a plot device caught between them. If the story had fully tapped into the Navy’s massive potential, we could’ve had way more epic moments and deeper conflicts.

I think the 'Large Cast' leading to unfinished fights critique that was brought up in the outro is one of my biggest complaints for massive one piece arcs (Looking at you W*** K*** and D*******). oda just loves to introduce characters because I think he has so many ideas but it leads to more important characters getting forgotten or losing spotlight. The bloated cast is definitely an issue in some of the future climaxes, but I do think marineford got the worst of it in a way

Marineford is probably my third favorite as well after sabaody and W7 up to this point. But it is not in my top 5 in all of one piece. Some people like early one piece (pre-timeskip) and some people like later longer arcs Jack mentioned more. Even though I love pre-timeskip One Piece, I like later arcs better. Note that this is for manga, a big portion of it suffers in the anime adaptation. For example (since the name mentioned), dressrosa is in my top 3. Anime adaptation is really bad imo, but writing is top notch which is more important for me since I am reading manga. My top 3 rn are 1. 🎂 2. 🥚🧠 3. Dressrosa

When the Shandians were fighting Enel’s warriors, she was overwhelmed by hearing the voices disappear as well. It might have been an intentional parallel, but either way I thought it was really well done and perfectly placed.

“Unwatchable” is a crazy take. Every reactioner I’ve seen have enjoyed the arcs as they are. We all know where it drags and yet we all fell in love with it regardless. I personally only got into the manga after I finished 🦩💃🏽 and 🐉 was introduced because that’s where the anime was at when I first watched and caught up to One Piece and I had zero complaints. It’s really after seeing the manga that I couldn’t watch anime episodes unless I stacked enough episodes to binge it. And unlike other channels, reactioners aren’t pestered to use One Pace at every turn so they don’t get the sense that they shouldn’t enjoy it as much as they are. I understand suggesting One Pace, but to say the anime sucks without it just isn’t true.

Hey don’t get me wrong, that’s great and all, but here’s one thing you fail to understand, you could binge. You may think the only reason was because you got used to the manga pacing, but the fact that you could watch as you wanted was also a big factor. I don’t mean to be an a hole as I actually binged the normal release until mid way through 🕺🏽 but when you only watch 4 episodes a weak, and you get 12 straight episodes of horrible pacing, it’s unwatchable 😅
