I think it'd be a disservice to call it filler (it's actually rated higher than 4x1). There are a couple connections to the main story but it's definitely more of a fun standalone thing. I still think you guys will like it

Cannon, Charles would’ve died if Sherlock hadn’t walked in on Mary the assassin. He had a bullet coming for him sooner or later. I think its okay writing wise for Sherlock to shoot him, the thing you could be mad about is Charles not really having a back up plan, like Moriarty had with his shooters post mortem. Charles gambles on his victim’s fears, he’s not invincible, and he wouldn’t work in real life, people like that get killed sooner or later.

You guys would love Doctor Who. Sherlock and the doctor are so similar. The creator of Sherlock came from Doctor Who. i don't think you would like starting off with the 9th doctor, it might be too dated, but if you started out with the 11th doctor(a place you can 100000% just start from with no past knowledge) you would LOVE it. Also, the 11th Doctor is Matt Smith, who is Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon. truly, you would love it. 11th doctor starts season 5.

I can't really consider Sherlock being "off the hook." it's more like they forced him into the job he already declined. Those people wanted Charles gone anyway. Sherlock in advertently helped Smallwood as well by getting rid of him. It was kinda a win-win situation for the MI6. They wanted him before got him for a bit when he fakes his death, and were about to finally get him to work for them but now Moriarty is back. better to use a genius sociopath to your advantage than to let him sit in prison and constantly have to consult with him, that guys murder won't be publicized anyway.

The betrayal from Mary was something I never saw coming, so good. Not to mention that after all the secret ops and killings she took part in, the first time you see her scared was when she saw that John knew, to the point of almost causing a panic attack. Very very well written this show

I can't say that without spoilers, so all I'll say is that it went the way of GoT. The first 3 seasons, plus The Abominable Bride, should all be together considered the entirety of Sherlock, and S4 should be treated the same way people treat the ATLA movie by M Night Shyamalan.

(i actually think we talked about this already mia) and don't worry mckay, it isn't vikings 😂😂😂. i just wanna preface by saying that i don't actually have any hopes of you watching it, but it would be SO MIND-BOGGLINGLY AWESOME if you did—the show is called merlin and it is THE SHOW that made an entire generation's childhoods in the UK and probably beyond. if you love lord of the rings (like i know you guys do), you'd love merlin, it is a simple as that! it's my comfort show and the show i am BY FORCE passing down to my children (along with aot of course); it has everything you want in a story: magic, romance, adventure, heartbreak, friendship, humour (that stands the test of time, might i add). IT IS JUST THE BEST!!! i was always hesitant to recommend it because i wasn't sure if the british humour would translate, but now you're watching sherlock and LOVING it, i think merlin is a perfect rec. it's also a bbc show and similar to sherlock in terms of popularity. it's an older show and this is VERY EVIDENT in the cgi (or lack thereof) in it, but the story and characters make up for it. anywho, i'll settle for doctor who if merlin doesn't happen :)

🤣🤣🤣 i actually do anya, but not in the way the geks describe. i have something called "fool", which is an arab/african dish which is VERY SIMILAR, but better in every way. in the way i've learned to make it from my mum, it uses the same ingredients (beans and toast) but we flavour the beans with onion and other spices and toast the bread perfectly golden and it tastes AMAZINGGGG!!!

Oh yeah I remember!! Merlinnn, I love that show so much. I've rewatched it so many times and I'm always on YouTube watching funny compilations 😂 I really think that the boys would like it because it's such a good mix of everything but I don't have a lot of faith in it happening. I remember when this season came out, and I do remember that it was not as well received as the previous seasons. I’m trying to put myself in that mind frame to try and remember why. There was a long gap between seasons, and it was extremely anticipated as you might imagine after last season’s finale. They built up a lot of expectations and weren’t satisfied with what they got. One thing is that Moriarty was an EXTREMELY popular villain. People loved him and wanted more. People were also disappointed in never getting a real answer to how Sherlock faked his death. I also remember people not really liking Mary very much (I know, criminal). They thought she just came out of nowhere and the fandom was OBSESSED with the idea of SherlockxJohn which obviously the show has been toying with since ep 1. There is still a lot of that in this season, but the fandom did not like Mary “stealing” John away. And they were NOT impressed with her lie revealed. It also meant Sherlock and John weren’t roommates anymore and the dynamics were just different with the addition of Mary. And then like you guys pointed out, actual plots this season were quite different. They didn’t have much time dedicated to solving a bunch of cases like the “good ol’ days” The season was still extremely popular and people still loved it. But I remember these particular gripes being harped on (at least by the teenaged viewers that were my peers at the time). I do think this season is underrated, and it is much easier to appreciate it during an unbroken series watch like you all are experiencing vs waiting years between seasons

Yeah, it was anticlimactic for me the way Magnussen just got shot because Sherlock couldn't beat him. Always seemed like a cheap way out to me. Would've liked him to stick around longer. He was a good villain and a menace.

you’re so sweet, i would LOVE to send you the recipe!! traditionally made with fava beans (but we use heinz beans which are haricot beans/navy beans in tomato sauce) - sauté diced onions with some garlic and oil in a smallish cooking pot (you can use whichever oil your prefer, i use sunflower oil) - when you’ve sautéed for a little bit, add a little bit of the tomato sauce from the beans can—i like to do this early so it absorbs the flavours nicely. - then add the rest of the can into the mix and flavour to your liking with cumin, salt and whichever seasoning you prefer—chilli if you’re feeling brave and you like spice! - add some water to help thicken the dish and so there’s more of it, hehe. - mix and let it simmer for a bit on low heat (make sure it doesn’t get stuck to the bottom of the pot…you are most definitely smarter than i am, but it gets stuck FAST so keep mixing before letting it simmer) - traditional “fool” or “fuul” (depending on where you’re from) gets mashed so the beans aren’t whole anymore, but i like to leave the beans as they are and would be done at this point in the recipe. - toast some bread (toasted sourdough sounds AMAZING by the way!!) and serve with the beans on top and ENJOY!!!! please let me know how this goes for you, anya!! and if you absolutely hate it, please forgive me for poisoning you xoxo—there are better recipes out there, i promise!!!

I think it's interesting that Magnussen got shot at the end- Sherlock's taking on a little more of Mary and John versus thinking his way out of everything, I'm intrigued! And yeah, this season is absolutely my favorite! It's funny because I've only ever watched it once before and I don't remember any of this 😂 So I can't wait for the rest! Also for all different versions of Sherlock, I do have to say that writers and producers really do a good job of making each rendition of Sherlock very unique! As much as I love these characters, the Robert Downey Jr. versions also are fantastic in their own unique way and I personally don't feel like one effects the other for me. I also just watched the new show Young Sherlock on Prime and I really liked that retelling and versions of those characters as well. It was a little slow to begin with, but I ended up enjoying it overall. I don't think it's anywhere near this caliber, just another fun reimagining of the Sherlock Holmes verse!
